After I Transmigrated into the Novel, I made the Heroine Fall for Me - Chapter 48
The four little girls, hearing Fang Qingying’s voice, were overcome with excitement. They quickly gathered their remaining belongings and moved closer to her.
The camera was blocked, but the guards had long since grown accustomed to such antics. After a glance, they dialed the number of the person in charge of watching over the girls.
The sudden ringing of the phone startled the four girls, their faces turning deathly pale as they froze in place.
Four pairs of eyes fixed intently on Fang Qingying, silently asking, what should they do?
If the call wasn’t answered, the other side would surely realize something was wrong. And if that happened, wouldn’t Fang Qingying’s efforts be in vain?
“Shh.” Fang Qingying bent down, retrieved the phone from the unconscious man’s pocket, and pressed a slender finger to her lips, signaling for them to stay quiet.
Once she saw them nod hurriedly, she answered the call.
The voice on the other end was rough and lazy, dripping with arrogance.
“Hey, what are those little wenches up to now? Blocking the cameras every damn day, what’s their deal?”
“Those girls are always causing trouble, but don’t worry, I’ve got them under control.”
The moment Fang Qingying spoke, the girls were stunned.
There was no other reason her voice sounded almost identical to the unconscious man’s.
It was voice mimicry.
The girls exchanged glances.
“Alright, alright. Just don’t get any funny ideas, got it? These are top-tier goods meant for the higher-ups.”
After delivering this warning, the person on the other end hung up without waiting for Fang Qingying’s response.
“Is there any plain water here?” Fang Qingying glanced at the now-ended call, her eyes scanning the surroundings.
“Yes, definitely.”
Though they didn’t understand why Fang Qingying wasn’t leaving, they wouldn’t go without her.
“Give it to me.” Fang Qingying closed the door again, took the plastic cup from the girls, and placed it within easy reach.
Without another word, she walked to the circuit breaker in the private room and opened it. Using a sharp edge from one of her accessories, she wrapped her hand in a towel and plastic bag, then pressed the power switch with her other hand.
With both hands working simultaneously, one turning off the circuit breaker, the other cutting through the wires, she stepped back and flipped the switch back on.
A faint spark flickered from the damaged spot. Grabbing the plastic cup, she splashed water directly onto it.
In an instant, the sparks erupted into a burst of flames.
“Follow me.” Fang Qingying led the four girls out the door and into the hallway.
The moment they stepped out, the brightly lit corridor plunged into darkness. In the shadows, it felt as though a beast lurked, waiting for them to step into its trap.
“Sister, where are we going now?” The long-haired girl tugged at the person beside her, whispering to Fang Qingying.
“Stay close. I’ve damaged the power supply here, but they’ll switch to backup soon. And each floor has separate circuits, we’ve only disrupted a small part.”
Fang Qingying guided them forward, following the escape route provided by 888.
Her goal wasn’t to cut the power entirely just to create enough chaos and disrupt the surveillance.
If the five of them ran out recklessly like this, they would definitely be discovered within half a minute. Therefore, this was the only way they could get farther.
Gu Shengxiao stopped in the corridor on the third floor, looking at the image that popped up on Fang Qingying’s phone. She asked Xiao Lin and Gao Tian, “Wait, what do you think this picture is?”
The password Fang Qingying had set was her own birthday, which was easily guessed. So the first thing Gu Shengxiao did after unlocking the phone was call Shen Lixie to explain the general situation.
“This picture looks like the design blueprint of this hotel, doesn’t it?” Xiao Lin glanced at it a few times, recalling the floor plan she had seen when she entered the hotel, the two were strikingly similar.
“Then what about this red dot?” Gao Tian pointed to the only red dot on the image.
That location seemed to be the hotel’s rooftop. Rumor had it there was an open-air banquet up there today, a masquerade ball, no less.
“Could it be Teacher Fang’s location?” Xiao Lin guessed.
Otherwise, why would there be a red dot on this image, and why would it have been sent to Fang Qingying’s phone?
“Let’s head to the rooftop. Gao Tian, go find Manager Shen, he should have arrived by now.” Gu Shengxiao pocketed the phone and, after instructing Gao Tian, quickly led Xiao Lin toward the rooftop.
She hoped nothing had happened to Fang Qingying. Otherwise, she would tear this hotel apart.
On their way to the rooftop, Gu Shengxiao and Xiao Lin encountered an obstacle hotel staff stopped them on the 13th floor.
The rooftop was on the 14th floor, but they discovered the elevator only went up to the 13th.
“Why can’t we go to the 14th floor? Please give us a reason.” Xiao Lin looked up at the tall waiter blocking their path and asked.
“I’m sorry, ma’am, but without an invitation, no one is allowed on the 14th floor. Those are the rules,” the tall waiter explained politely but firmly.
Gu Shengxiao asked indifferently, “What kind of invitation is needed?”
She had never been to this hotel before, so she didn’t know an invitation was required to access the 14th floor.
“There’s a masquerade ball being held on the rooftop, so only those with an invitation from the host may enter,” the waiter clarified.
Meanwhile, just as Gu Shengxiao and Xiao Lin were being stopped, Fang Qingying and the four girls finally managed to grope their way to the emergency staircase.
Fang Qingying cautiously pushed open the door. The pitch-black interior suggested no one was guarding it, which gave her a small sense of relief.
But whether anyone was stationed at the bottom of the emergency staircase, she didn’t know.
“Let’s get inside first.” Fang Qingying stepped aside to let the four girls enter before following them in.
The five of them stood in the narrow stairwell, surrounded by darkness, with only each other’s breathing to reassure them.
“Sister, where do we go next?”
“Downstairs. We’re on the 14th floor. The elevators are guarded, but I don’t know if the stairwell is being watched too,” Fang Qingying said matter-of-factly.
The four girls suddenly stopped, seemingly frightened by how familiar Fang Qingying was with the surroundings.
“Why aren’t you moving?” Fang Qingying halted and turned around, looking puzzled.
“Sister, how did you know the elevators are guarded?”
“And how did you know the emergency staircase was here?”
“Everything’s pitch black around here, so how come you can see so clearly, sister? It’s like your vision isn’t hindered at all.”
“Sister, are you one of them? Sent here to quietly get rid of us?”
The four little girls chattered one after another, their voices filled with distrust toward Fang Qingying. Their wariness of her was becoming more and more apparent.
Hearing this, Fang Qingying lifted her head to look at the girls still lingering where they had first entered and helplessly rubbed her temples.
“I’ve seen the floor plan of this hotel. I have no reason to joke about this. If you don’t trust me, that’s fine. You can find your own way out. I don’t want to be treated like some tradable commodity and handed over as a gift by those people.”
Fang Qingying took a deep breath and said everything she wanted to say in one go.
If this really was the plot from the book she knew, then staying would mean facing destruction.
A ball woven with power and ambition.
A sin that would drag people into the abyss.
She wasn’t the female lead of the book, she didn’t have any golden finger to miraculously escape danger.
She wasn’t a saint, but if she could lend a hand, and chose not to, she would be consumed by guilt.
It was to avoid that guilt that she was willing to do all this.
In this ball, many would lose their lives only the male and female leads would remain unharmed.
The female lead would be trapped in a corner, and the male lead would suddenly appear with a group of people.
Fang Qingying thought that if she weren’t experiencing this firsthand, she might have truly believed that a heroic rescue was something romantic.
But now that she was about to face it, it only filled her with panic.
“Sister, we didn’t mean it like that,” the short-haired girl said hastily, flustered by Fang Qingying’s words. “We’re just scared, scared of being deceived again.”
In the darkness, four hearts clung tightly together, their fear spilling out uncontrollably.
“I’m going to try to get out of here. Whether you follow or not is up to you. I won’t force you.” Fang Qingying bit her lip, finding the situation somewhat absurd.
With that, she carefully descended the stairs, gripping the railing.
She didn’t know when the power would come back on, or when they would be caught. She just knew she had to move faster, the quicker she was, the safer she’d be.
After a moment of hesitation, the four girls gritted their teeth and followed Fang Qingying’s lead, cautiously making their way down.
They had no other choice.
After what felt like an eternity, the lights above them suddenly flickered back on. The girls nearly screamed in fright, but at the last second, they clapped their hands over each other’s mouths.
What they didn’t realize was that in moments of extreme fear, the sounds people made weren’t as loud as they imagined.
Fang Qingying stopped and turned to look at them, delivering the harsh truth without mercy. “They’ve noticed we’ve escaped.”
She paused for a few seconds before adding, “If we get out, you must report this to the police. Everyone involved deserves to be punished.”
When she had read the book, she hadn’t thought much of this plot at most, she’d considered the characters deserving of their fate. But that had been fiction, not reality.
Now, she was living it.
888: Qingqing, run! They’ve realized you’re heading for the emergency stairs!
The sudden blare of the alarm made Fang Qingying’s pupils contract. She forced herself to speak calmly, “Hurry up and go. If we’re too slow, even the exit might be blocked.”
No sooner had she spoken than the four girls’ faces turned deathly pale. Supporting each other, their legs felt weak as jelly.
Yet the will to survive drove them to stumble down the stairs, desperate to escape.
As if fueled by sheer determination, they finally reached the bottom of the staircase. Suddenly, the girls felt a surge of strength and flung the door open with all their might.
What awaited them wasn’t the light they had hoped for, but a darkness that chilled them to the bone.
“Little girls, you run pretty fast, huh?”
An unfamiliar male voice drifted into their ears from beyond the stairwell door.
“Tsk, that idiot actually got himself electrocuted by you lot. Seems like we didn’t clean up thoroughly enough. Guess we’ll have to teach you a lesson so you know your place.”
