- Chapter 13 - Going Home
Fang Qingying lowered her head without responding, and an awkward atmosphere instantly filled the car.
Gu Shengxiao drove in silence, her gaze unconsciously drifting toward Fang Qingying, though the latter didn’t seem to notice.
Even if she wanted to change the subject, Fang Qingying’s demeanor made it clear she had no intention of speaking to her.
The road would eventually come to an end, slipping away in the midst of this awkwardness. By the time Fang Qingying thought of something to say, the car had already stopped. And standing beside it was none other than her dear manager, Shen Lixie, a tall man who seemed impossible to miss.
He stood by the car, glancing down at his phone before looking up, clearly startled by the sudden appearance of another vehicle.
“Are we here?” Shen Lixie straightened up, eyeing the Ferrari beside him, then bent down and lightly tapped on the passenger-side window. “Getting out? I’ve been waiting for almost an hour. How can you be this slow?”
Fang Qingying, sitting in the passenger seat, listened to his words with a hint of guilt on her face. She really did have a knack for giving Shen Lixie extra work.
Having stayed offline on her phone, Fang Qingying had no idea that her current actions were far less serious than what she’d done the day before.
“Xiaoxiao, I’m heading back now?” Fang Qingying said slowly as she unbuckled her seatbelt, stealing a tentative glance at Gu Shengxiao.
Gu Shengxiao kept her eyes fixed straight ahead, giving only a brief acknowledgment before falling silent again.
“Xiaoxiao.” Fang Qingying turned slightly, reaching out to tug at the hem of Gu Shengxiao’s sleeve. “Let me reintroduce myself. My name is Fang Qingying. I’m 22 years old, born in March, a Pisces, and I’ve never been in a relationship. My hobbies are painting, binge-watching dramas, and listening to music.”
Gu Shengxiao turned to look at her, her expression unreadable. “Are you on a blind date or something?”
Otherwise, why did this sound exactly like the kind of introduction someone would give during a matchmaking session?
Fang Qingying choked on her words, unsure how to respond. She awkwardly lowered her head, the tips of her ears turning red beneath her long hair.
Seeing her silence, Gu Shengxiao tried to break the awkwardness by asking, “Do you want me to give a self-introduction too?”
Fang Qingying quickly shook her head, pushing the car door open as she spoke. “I should go. Brother Shen is waiting for me!”
Gu Shengxiao nodded. “Be careful on the way.”
From her angle, Fang Qingying looked like she was fleeing in a hurry.
Shen Lixie watched Fang Qingying’s near-panicked escape with a thoughtful expression, stroking his chin as he wondered what the two of them could have possibly talked about in the car to make Fang Qingying bolt like that.
Fang Qingying patted the driver’s seat from the passenger side, frantically hinting, “Brother Shen, aren’t we going home?”
Hurry up! I want to go home now!
Ughhh~ I embarrassed myself in front of the girl I like. I don’t want to live anymore!
888, unable to understand why Fang Qingying was feeling so down, chimed in at the worst possible moment when it heard her inner lament about not wanting to live.
888: No, you do want to live. You still have missions to complete.
Having failed to get a response earlier, 888 was particularly eager to jump in now that there was an opening. There was no way it would stay silent.
Fang Qingying: Wahhh~ She must have such a bad impression of me now.
[Ding. Host’s favorability with female lead Gu Shengxiao: 75%.]
888 dutifully looked up the concept of favorability for her and said very seriously, [“You’re welcome.”]
Fang Qingying didn’t feel like entertaining 888 and even threw a disdainful glance its way.
However, she forgot that this eye-rolling gesture was witnessed by Shen Lixie.
Just as Shen Lixie started the car and was about to remind Fang Qingying to fasten her seatbelt, he caught sight of the girl making such an unrefined expression.
Instantly amused, Shen Lixie remarked, “If you have a problem with me, just say it outright. No need to roll your eyes at me.”
“Where would I ever have a problem with you, Brother Shen?” Fang Qingying blinked her large, watery eyes, feigning innocence. “You must have seen wrong.”
That eye-roll was clearly meant for 888, not him!
“Heh.” Shen Lixie scoffed. “Oh? So you’re not calling me ‘Xie-ge’ or ‘daddy’ anymore?”
“Ah, Brother Shen, I just got out of emergency care, my brain isn’t working right, okay?” Fang Qingying put on a bashful act and playfully smacked Shen Lixie’s shoulder.
Shen Lixie stiffened, feeling like his entire shoulder was screaming in pain. Damn, this girl hit hard!
“Your brain still isn’t working right. Should we take you back to the hospital for a checkup?” Shen Lixie drove with one hand while rubbing his aching shoulder with the other.
Fang Qingying’s willow-like brows shot up as she righteously turned the tables. “You’re the one who should go to the hospital! Are you even my brother? Always wishing for me to be hospitalized?”
Shen Lixie choked on his words and immediately decided to ignore her. He was starting to realize, Fang Qingying wasn’t mentally unstable at all. This was deliberate revenge, wasn’t it?
Just like when she was a kid, mischievous and strong as an ox. Shen Lixie suspected his shoulder was probably red where she’d smacked him.
Having successfully riled up Shen Lixie, Fang Qingying guiltily fiddled with the hem of her clothes. At least this way, he wouldn’t suspect she wasn’t the original owner.
What a clever little imp she was~
The car left the winding mountain road and headed toward the outskirts of H City. Originally, the Fang family had lived in a villa along that mountainous route, but due to certain circumstances, they had moved.
Their new home was situated on a scenic plot of land in the suburbs, backed by hills and facing a natural lake. A five or six-minute drive would take them to the main road, making it fairly convenient.
The only downside was that it was a bit far from shopping malls and supermarkets.
As Fang Qingying gazed out the window, familiar scenes flashed by this was the road back to the original owner’s home. Perhaps it was the apprehension of returning after a long absence, but she felt a little afraid to face the original owner’s parents.
The original owner had left home after a fierce argument with them, vowing not to return until she had made something of herself.
Bottled up inside, even though her true goal was Yun Yifan, she had only dared to say she loved acting and wanted to enter the entertainment industry.
She was sensitive, terrified that revealing her real motive would invite even stronger opposition. Arguing with her parents and stepping into the entertainment world might have been the bravest thing the original owner had ever done.
Of course, Fang Qingying wasn’t too thrilled that she now had to shoulder all the consequences of the original owner’s actions.
If not for the suicide attempt, perhaps the original owner’s parents still wouldn’t have known what had happened to her.
The original owner’s parents didn’t pay attention to entertainment news and were often abroad. If they had time to stay in the country, they wouldn’t have entrusted Shen Lixie to take care of their child.
Fang Qingying: “Brother Shen, do you think we should buy a fruit basket or something?”
