- Chapter 10 - Good Person
“That’s good.” Gu Shengxiao seemed to notice Fang Qingying’s inner conflict and smiled slightly, her lips curling up.
Just a bit silly and adorable, enough to make someone want to devour her whole.
“That’s a relief.” Fang Qingying exhaled, patting her chest lightly. “But what about my clothes? I can’t go out wearing pajamas, can I?”
Shen Lixie was already on his way over. If he saw her wearing Gu Shengxiao’s pajamas, she couldn’t even imagine what wild scenarios he might conjure up in his mind.
“It was inconsiderate of me.” Gu Shengxiao pressed her lips together, lowering her head slightly as she spoke softly. “I have a few outfits sent by sponsors, though they might be a bit small. Would you like to try them?”
“Sure.” Fang Qingying nodded in agreement, not giving it much deeper thought.
If these clothes were really sent by sponsors, why wouldn’t they be tailored to Gu Shengxiao’s measurements?
But right now, Fang Qingying just wanted to change out of the pajamas. As for what she wore next, she didn’t particularly care.
Gu Shengxiao led Fang Qingying to her walk-in closet, guiding her to a section that seemed deliberately set apart from the rest.
“You can try any of the clothes here.” Gu Shengxiao released her hand and opened the wardrobe door. Inside were over a dozen outfits, each with a distinct style, no duplicates in sight.
Fang Qingying eyed the clothes curiously and asked, “All of these… were sent by sponsors?”
She skimmed through them briefly. Most were the latest seasonal designs, and some were one-of-a-kind pieces exclusive items that couldn’t possibly be ill-fitting gifts from sponsors.
“Well, not all of them. Some are just clothes I’ve collected. I have a little habit.” Gu Shengxiao lowered her head shyly, her long hair slipping over her shoulders, revealing the tips of her ears, now flushed red.
The sudden intimacy of sharing a small secret sent a thrill through Fang Qingying.
Wahhh~ Is this what having a bestie feels like?
Sharing your truest self with someone?
Little did Fang Qingying know, there was more to this wardrobe than met the eye.
But for now, she remained blissfully unaware, simply reveling in the joy of being entrusted with a secret.
“Don’t worry, bestie! I’ll keep it under wraps!” Fang Qingying excitedly threw an arm over Gu Shengxiao’s shoulder, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.
Hearing Fang Qingying’s bold declaration, Gu Shengxiao’s smile froze momentarily before she awkwardly replied, “Mhm.”
You call me bestie, but I want to date you?
Gu Shengxiao watched Fang Qingying pick through the clothes with a meaningful gaze before sighing quietly.
Just like when we were kids still not a shred of caution. How can I not worry?
The more Fang Qingying browsed, the more she realized how eerily similar Gu Shengxiao’s taste was to hers.
Every piece resonated with her, sparking an urge to buy the entire collection from Gu Shengxiao.
Wahhh~ I’m absolutely in love with these!
After deliberating for what felt like ages, Fang Qingying still hadn’t made a choice. Gu Shengxiao clenched her fists nervously and tentatively asked, “Found anything you like?”
Fang Qingying stood still for a moment before suddenly spinning around and throwing her arms around Gu Shengxiao. “Ahhh, I love them! I love them all so much~”
She wanted to try on every single one, but none of them were hers, which made Fang Qingying feel quite sad.
Gu Shengxiao seemed momentarily taken aback by Fang Qingying’s reaction. Carefully returning the embrace, she asked, “There isn’t a single one you dislike?”
“Not at all! I love them all!” Fang Qingying hugged her tightly, tilting her head up to reveal her adorable little canine teeth as she emphasized her words.
Hearing this, Gu Shengxiao couldn’t help but smile.
When she had been preparing these clothes, her mind had been filled with images of how Fang Qingying would look wearing them. She had even worried that Fang Qingying might not like them.
Who would have thought Fang Qingying would give her such a pleasant surprise, she loved every single piece.
Watching Fang Qingying’s reaction, Gu Shengxiao swallowed lightly and casually asked, “How about I give you a few sets?”
The rest could wait until they grew closer. These clothes had been prepared for her, if not given to her, then who else?
Fang Qingying felt as if she had been struck dizzy by “happiness.” Overjoyed, she nodded eagerly and asked, “Really? You’d do that?”
She hadn’t yet checked the original owner’s wardrobe, but if Gu Shengxiao really gave her a few sets of the clothes she liked. Hmm, Wouldn’t it be a bit rude to refuse?
Seeing Fang Qingying’s adorable, earnest expression as if she had practically written “YES” across her face Gu Shengxiao curled her lips into a smile. “Really. You can pick whichever you like, okay?”
When Gu Shengxiao wasn’t smiling, she gave off an air of unapproachable elegance, like a flower atop a distant peak.
But when she smiled, she became inexplicably captivating like winter snow melting under a spring breeze, making hearts flutter unconsciously.
Fang Qingying felt her heart pounding wildly in her chest. She bit her lip instinctively oh no, she was completely enchanted.
She had always liked girls, and Gu Shengxiao was exactly her type. Under such an impact, Fang Qingying felt like she might faint from blood loss.
“Why are you spacing out?” Gu Shengxiao gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind Fang Qingying’s ear, her voice impossibly tender.
The cool touch of her fingertips made Fang Qingying instinctively look up at her, as if bewitched. “Xiaoxiao, you’re so beautiful. I really, really like you.”
The sudden declaration made Gu Shengxiao’s pupils constrict. Her lips parted slightly, as if she wanted to ask something.
But seeing the almost infatuated yet utterly loveless gaze in Fang Qingying’s eyes, Gu Shengxiao felt as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over her from head to toe.
Her words were no different from an offhand joke nothing to be taken seriously.
A sudden chill ran through Gu Shengxiao’s body, her heart plummeting into an abyss. How could she have forgotten?
The Fang Qingying before her now was different from the older sister who had once clung to her in childhood.
She was two years younger than Fang Qingying. Her parents had been too busy to care for her, leaving only hired help at home.
She had lived alone in an empty house until one day, Fang Qingying appeared before her like a ray of light.
Fang Qingying had stretched out her hand and asked, “Little one, want to come out and play with me? Don’t you get bored staying inside all the time?”
Gu Shengxiao had thought, of course, she was bored. But she had no friends.
As if guided by some unseen force, she had taken that delicate, slender hand. And from that moment on, her heart had belonged to Fang Qingying.
Fang Qingying had once told her about a dream where she lived another life. In that dream, she grew up to become a comic artist, and she asked her what she wanted to be.
How had she answered back then?
“Big sister, what do you think makes someone noticed?”
Fang Qingying replied, “A celebrity, maybe? Stars shine so brightly that no one can ignore them.”
Because of those childhood words, she debuted as a child star and has since carved out her own place in the entertainment industry.
Her goal was never anything else just to capture Fang Qingying’s attention.
If there was any difference between then and now, it was that one of them was wholly devoted to the other, while the other looked at her like a stranger.
A stranger they had only just met.
“Xiao Xiao, why do you suddenly look upset?” Fang Qingying asked, puzzled.
Was it because all the clothes in the wardrobe were ones she loved dearly and couldn’t bear to part with? If that were the case, Fang Qingying thought she could do without them, a true friend wouldn’t take what someone cherished.
Gu Shengxiao shook her head. “It’s nothing. I was just thinking about something from when we were kids.”
Those things were in the past now. Fang Qingying had long become someone she couldn’t let go of.
She asked herself, if she had to give up her feelings for Fang Qingying now, would she be willing?
The answer was obvious.
She wouldn’t.
She still wanted to try.
When Fang Qingying heard the words “something from when we were kids,” her entire body stiffened.
Just how much had the original owner bullied Gu Shengxiao for her to still remember it so vividly and feel so sad about it now?
Without realizing it, Fang Qingying had already internalized what Shen Lixie had told her, subconsciously accepting that these events had indeed happened.
Biting her lip, she reached out and gently stroked Gu Shengxiao’s hair in comfort. “About what happened back then… I was wrong. I shouldn’t have pushed you, shouldn’t have scared you, shouldn’t have bullied you so badly that you avoided me for three years…”
As she spoke, it was like opening Pandora’s box.
With every incident she mentioned, the full memory of it surfaced in her mind.
The more Fang Qingying spoke, the guiltier she felt.
She took a step back, looking at Gu Shengxiao with a resigned expression. “Xiao Xiao, hit me! I won’t fight back at all!”
The original owner was truly awful sob, how could she have bullied such an adorable Xiao Xiao back then?
If it had been her, she would have cherished little Xiao Xiao with all her heart.
Gu Shengxiao looked at her and chuckled helplessly. “Pfft, it’s been so long. Let’s just forget about it, okay?”
She had been angry once, but not anymore.
Because the bad Fang Qingying was gone, and the one she loved had stayed.
She could clearly tell the difference between the two, though she didn’t know how the bad Fang Qingying had disappeared. All she knew was that the person she loved had returned.
“Wuwuwu~ Xiao Xiao, you’re such a good person,” Fang Qingying cried out emotionally, throwing herself into her arms.
Just then, Fang Qingying’s phone rang.
She composed herself instantly, glancing at the caller ID before answering calmly.
“Hello? Brother Shen, what’s up?” Please tell me he hasn’t come here already.
“I’m downstairs at the villa,” Shen Lixie said bluntly.
“So?”
“So, get down here.”
“Oh. Can I at least eat first?”
This was congee made by Xiao Xiao herself, how could she possibly miss it?
Shen Lixie on the other end of the phone fell silent once more.
“Fine.”
