- Chapter55 - Crimson Eyes Become Blood
Crimson tears flowed down his cheeks. Although it was only for a moment, Qiu Fuxue felt as if a long, long time had passed.
He heard the sound of the blade churning through flesh and blood, and a heavy gasp filled with pain.
While his heart ached, for some reason, he also felt a hint of a cruel anticipation.
Jiufang Cangze , who was once arrogant and proud, was being destroyed bit by bit.
Qiu Fuxue shook his head abruptly. He was truly being deeply influenced by the demons’ desires. All things had a spirit; he shouldn’t be thinking this way.
The mer-person’s hands were covered in fresh blood. As promised, he unlocked Qiu Fuxue’s chains.
“Little beauty, it’s your turn.” He handed the dagger to Qiu Fuxue.
The latter took the dagger and weighed it in his hand, getting blood on his own hands.
He walked up to Jiufang Cangze. The other man had his head down, his eyes tightly closed, and blood pouring from the hollows of his eye sockets.
I will never see those crimson eyes again. For some reason, he felt a bit of regret.
“A-Xue… is that you…” A weak voice came from the ground.
“It’s me.” Qiu Fuxue said coldly. “I’ve come to send you on your way.”
With that, he raised the dagger. The blood droplets couldn’t keep up with his speed and were flung out, then disappeared into the desert.
The mer-person’s smile grew wider and wider. Suddenly, Qiu Fuxue’s wrist twisted, and the dagger was flung away. In its place, a long, translucent sword, as thin as a cicada’s wing, flew towards him.
“Clang—!”
The sword struck the hard mer-person’s scales and could not go any further.
The mer-person flicked his long tail, kicking up a cloud of dust. “Heh, I underestimated you.”
Qiu Fuxue held his sword behind him and created a barrier in front of him to block the dust. He said lightly, “Don’t be happy too soon. There’s more.”
“What…?” The mer-person was stunned. He suddenly felt a chill behind him. When he turned around, he saw a black mist rapidly enveloping him.
He couldn’t dodge in time and was trapped in the black mist. Qiu Fuxue walked into it with his sword. Everything in front of him was clear, and he effortlessly killed the disoriented mer-person with his sword.
Qiu Fuxue walked out of the mist, but the black mist did not disappear. It shrunk, carrying the mer-person’s extinguished soul, until it became a small orb—the shape of the sword spirit.
The Cloud Calamity (jiejun, ) had regained its soul power, and it was in its element.
Qiu Fuxue smiled and patted him. “Doesn’t eating things like that give you a stomachache?”
The sword spirit shook its head and hopped onto his shoulder.
The blade of the sword sliced through the chains, and Jiufang Cangze fell to the ground, exhausted and silent for a long time.
Qiu Fuxue thought he was sulking again, so he explained dryly, “Just a pair of eyes. In exchange for both of our lives, it’s worth it.”
The person on the ground still didn’t move.
Qiu Fuxue frowned and poked him with the sword scabbard. Only then did he realize that the man had fainted again.
“Jiufang Cangze, wake up! I can’t carry you if you pass out here!”
He patted the bloody cheek with the sword scabbard. The sword spirit flew into the air indignantly, as if it was scolding him for dirtying its scabbard.
With no other choice, Qiu Fuxue used his spiritual energy to try and revive Jiufang Cangze.
He wondered if a demon’s body would reject spiritual energy.
“Arghhh—!!”
With a hysterical scream, Jiufang Cangze suddenly began to convulse on the ground. Blood and sand covered half of his face.
“It hurts… it hurts… argh…!”
He rolled around on the ground in agony. Qiu Fuxue quickly stepped away, and at the same time, stopped his spiritual energy.
It seems that spiritual energy doesn’t feel very good in a demon’s body either.
The pain finally receded. Jiufang Cangze gasped for a long time with his mouth wide open, then he fumbled around on the ground like a headless fly. “A-Xue… A-Xue…?”
“I’m here.” Qiu Fuxue poked him. He didn’t want to touch the dirty hands, so he held out his sword scabbard for him to grab.
“It seems we’ve been sucked into the Moon Shadow Wall (yueying bi, .” He looked up at the sky. The sunset was blood red, exactly the same as the scene he had seen during the trial.
Jiufang Cangze staggered to his feet. Without his eyes, he could only move carefully, guided by the sword hilt in his hand.
“…Ye Chu connected a teleportation formation to the Moon Shadow Wall.”
“How do we get out?”
Jiufang Cangze was silent for a while. “The only exit from the Moon Shadow Wall is at the Qingming Palace. To go out there would be to walk into a trap.”
Shiwu had said the same thing, but he had died tragically before he could figure out how to escape from the Qingming Palace.
Taking advantage of Jiufang Cangze’s blindness, Qiu Fuxue shamelessly looked him over. The once evil and unbridled Demon Lord had finally received the punishment he deserved.
“As long as we can get out, it’s better than waiting here to die.” He shook the sword scabbard, signaling for Jiufang Cangze to follow him. “Can you handle it?”
Jiufang Cangze held the sword scabbard with one hand. His other arm dangled uselessly behind him. When the mer-person stabbed his shoulder, it seemed to have damaged his meridians.
He shook his head, his voice hoarse and raspy, having lost its usual deep tone. “I’m fine.”
It was easy to get lost walking in the desert. Luckily, Qiu Fuxue had a sword spirit that was here to repay a debt. The nine fiends were all familiar with each other’s auras. The sword spirit flew into the air, sensed its surroundings, and came back to point them in a precise direction.
Walking with an injured person was not easy, especially when the person was blind. Jiufang Cangze said he was fine, but he had to stop and rest every two steps.
Qiu Fuxue’s face was filled with worry. He first had him sit down to rest. What he was most worried about right now was whether he could get Jiufang Cangze out of here alive.
If he were to die here, it would be exactly what Ye Chu had plotted.
Where the sky and land met, a gust of wind blew. Qiu Fuxue narrowed his eyes. His heart sank.
He was too familiar with this wind.
The village at the foot of Snowy Peak had been swept away by this very wind, which was how that innocent boy lost his life.
The Butterfly Fiend (yudie,) had arrived. Qiu Fuxue felt both happy and worried as he patted the sword spirit. “The path you led us on is too accurate.”
The sword spirit puffed out a little, as if it was proudly sticking out its chest.
The Butterfly Fiend was made of countless small demonic butterflies. Although it had a complete skeletal frame, it could change its shape at will.
To prevent them from getting separated during the fight, Qiu Fuxue created a rope of spiritual energy and tied it around his and Jiufang Cangze’s waists.
“Stay put later and don’t run off.” He quickly measured the rope. It was long enough not to hinder his movements.
Jiufang Cangze sat down on the ground, looking well-behaved. “I’ll listen to you.”
Qiu Fuxue suddenly felt absurd. Such a big man and the word ‘well-behaved’ just didn’t go together.
A few scattered demonic butterflies floated in the air. Qiu Fuxue swung his sword and cut them down. He had the sword spirit create a barrier of mist to temporarily block the strong wind behind them.
The wind howled, and a large swarm of demonic butterflies came. The Cloud Calamity’s mist barrier trembled. In a moment, it seemed like it couldn’t hold on any longer.
Qiu Fuxue swung his sword multiple times, cutting down the demonic butterflies that slipped through. He felt that this soul was even harder to deal with than its physical form.
“Wahhh…”
The sword spirit was connected to his consciousness. He suddenly heard a small wail, and Qiu Fuxue’s heart ached. He knew the sword spirit couldn’t hold on.
The Cloud Calamity was better at fighting large, complete creatures. This swarm of small demonic butterflies could easily devour it if it wasn’t careful.
“You retreat! I’ll open the barrier!”
Worried that the sword spirit would get hurt, Qiu Fuxue quickly told it to pull back and took over.
However, things did not go smoothly. In the instant they switched, the Butterfly Fiend took the opportunity to rush in, and they were completely enveloped.
