After Getting Pregnant, I’m Divorcing My Alpha - Chapter 24
“No, you were fine just now, how come.” Wei Yi started to complain but swallowed his words upon seeing An Xiangdi’s pale profile.
Probably because he had walked too quickly, An Xiangdi couldn’t catch his breath for a moment, leaning halfway against the wall as he retched dryly for a long while.
“Are you okay?” Wei Yi couldn’t help but worry. Having grown accustomed to An Xiangdi’s fearless demeanor, this fragile side was something he was seeing for the first time.
“I’m fine.” Slowly, the nausea subsided, and An Xiangdi let out a sigh of relief. “Let’s go.”
“Really okay?” Wei Yi, still uneasy, supported him as they walked forward, afraid something else might happen.
An Xiangdi found his incessant chatter annoying. “Shut up, let’s go back.”
Wei Yi was frightened into silence. Remembering that An Xiangdi’s Alpha had just helped him resolve a major issue, he immediately shrank back like a turtle.
Returning to the set, An Xiangdi noticed Zhao Zeyun was still there, though not in front of the camera. Instead, he stood alone in a corner, his eyes red.
As soon as Zhao Zeyun saw them enter, he widened his eyes and glared at An Xiangdi, looking utterly defiant.
Wei Yi muttered angrily, “Today, I’m going to make him experience the harsh reality of society!”
“Why do you look so pale?” Shen Xiao caught a faint, sweet scent as he walked toward An Xiangdi.
“I’m fine.” An Xiangdi avoided the topic. “What’s the situation now?”
“Continue filming as usual. Director Wang already asked Zhao Zeyun to leave, but he refused.” With legs of his own, Zhao Zeyun stubbornly lingered, making things difficult.
Wei Yi, hearing this, immediately flared up. “Can unrelated personnel stay on set? I’ll go kick him out right now!”
“Wait a moment.” An Xiangdi grabbed Wei Yi and turned to Shen Xiao. “What’s his relationship with Teacher Ying?”
“He’s a connection through Yang Chu, not really tied to Ying Chong.” Shen Xiao didn’t elaborate on how he had handled the situation.
“Relying on someone else’s influence?” An Xiangdi guessed roughly. “Let me go talk to him first.”
An Xiangdi walked straight up to Zhao Zeyun, looking down at him from above.
Zhao Zeyun lifted his head defiantly. “An Xiangdi, I won’t lose to you!”
“If it’s just about that competition abroad, honestly.” An Xiangdi curled his lips into a smile. “I don’t even remember people who haven’t beaten me. Instead of resorting to these tricks, why not focus on improving yourself? If you keep wasting time on pointless schemes, you’ll never learn anything from me.”
After saying this, An Xiangdi didn’t spare him another glance and returned to Shen Xiao’s side. “Wei the Brave, didn’t you want to escort him out? Go ahead, but remember to be gentle. We don’t want this blowing up on Weibo.”
“Got it!”
Not long after Wei Yi “gently” “escorted” Zhao Zeyun off the set, the film emperor Ying Chong and the assistant director Yang Chu returned one after the other.
Ying Chong looked no different from usual, still appearing approachable and amiable. Assistant Director Yang Chu, however, wore a gloomy expression, clearly having hit a wall.
Wang Xingxiu called Yang Chu to a corner. An Xiangdi and the others only caught phrases like “no further cooperation.” Soon after, Yang Chu packed his things and left.
Aside from the morning’s drama, what An Xiangdi had to film today was actually a scene with Wei Yi.
In “The Yellowed Season,” the five children of the He family have vastly different personalities. An Xiangdi, playing “He Sheng,” is quiet and struggles with depression, while An Xiao’s “He Wan” is fiery-tempered and impulsive. Ying Chong, as the eldest brother “He Qiang,” is cold and unfeeling, and Wei Yi, portraying the fourth son “He Qiao,” is stingy and nitpicky.
Wei Yi wasn’t an actor to begin with, and he was playing a role completely opposite to his own personality, so it was no surprise he struggled.
Once filming officially began, Wei Yi was, as expected, criticized again and this time, he was torn to shreds.
“Wei Yi! You’re supposed to be playing a stingy miser, not a creep!” Wang Xiuxiu angrily slammed a rolled-up script on the table.
Wei Yi, who had just been called a creep, grinned carelessly. Since Zhao Zeyun had been “escorted” away, he was in such high spirits that the scolding didn’t dampen his mood at all.
An Xiangdi stood to the side, hands behind his back, staring blankly at the ceiling and beginning to wonder why he had ever become friends with an idiot like Wei Yi.
“I’ll fix it right away, don’t be mad,” Wei Yi said ingratiatingly as he ran over to massage Wang Xiuxiu’s shoulders. “Why don’t you shoot Ying Chong and Wang’s scenes first? I’ll go over to that corner and study properly.”
“Others are promising talents, but you’re a genius at ruining things!” Wang Xiuxiu whacked Wei Yi on the head with the script and shooed him away like a fly.
An Xiangdi was considering tutoring this “genius at ruining things,” but Shen Xiao beat him to it: “I’ll teach him. You sit.”
“Huh?” An Xiangdi inexplicably pictured Wei Yi kneeling on the ground calling Shen Xiao “Daddy” and couldn’t help but chuckle. “Don’t torment him too much.”
“Don’t worry, he won’t die.”
Shen Xiao’s acting skills were better than his own, and Wei Yi was afraid of him, so An Xiangdi leisurely sat back to watch.
At some point, all the scented candles in the studio had been removed. An Xiangdi, sitting in his chair, finished a small bag of waxberries and began to feel drowsy, dozing off where he sat.
After Shen Xiao finished teaching Wei Yi, he walked over and gently cradled An Xiangdi’s head, letting him lean against his waist to sleep.
By the time An Xiangdi woke up, Ying Chong had almost finished filming his scenes for the day.
“I’ll be leaving soon. Wei Yi should be about ready to shoot now,” Shen Xiao said, crouching down to give him a kiss.
An Xiangdi looked past him toward Wei Yi, who was still in the corner. “How did you teach him? So quickly?”
Given Wei Yi’s “talent,” he had assumed it would take until evening to get him up to speed.
“Intimidation.”
An Xiangdi didn’t press further. “Oh.”
For a moment, the two fell into silence. Saying something like “I’ll miss you” felt a bit melodramatic—after all, they were an old married couple.
In the end, Shen Xiao broke the silence first: “It might be a couple of weeks before I can come see you again. Wait for my video call tonight.”
“Mm, have a safe trip.” An Xiangdi lowered his head, his tone giving nothing away as he fiddled with the small waxberry bag, his fingertips stained with a bit of juice.
Shen Xiao gently pinched his pale, almost translucent earlobe, then turned and left the set.
After the lunch break, Wang Xiuxiu called Wei Yi over and, after repeatedly confirming he was ready, summoned An Xiangdi into the studio to film.
The crew had expected to see Wang Xiuxiu lose his temper again in the afternoon, but Wei Yi’s performance was remarkably improved compared to before. Several scenes even went smoothly in one take.
With efficiency restored, Wang Xiuxiu didn’t erupt again.
As six o’clock approached, the film crew wrapped up shooting early.
While An Xiangdi waited for Xiao Gu to help him pack his things, Wei Yi ran straight over, his face beaming with joy.
“Di, wanna grab a drink? My treat!”
An Xiangdi found him baffling. “What’s got you so happy?”
“Of course! I’m always this cheerful and optimistic!”
“Today what did Shen Xiao teach you?” An Xiangdi narrowed his eyes slightly, refusing to believe Wei Yi’s excitement was without reason.
“He said.” Wei Yi glanced around mysteriously before leaning in close to An Xiangdi’s ear. “He said he could get me out of two episodes of ‘Survival.'”
Just as An Xiangdi was about to speak, a faint scent of orange an Alpha’s pheromones drifted over, causing him to instinctively step back several paces.
His gaze toward Wei Yi shifted. The orange scent wasn’t particularly strong, nor did it make him uncomfortable, but it still felt unfamiliar.
Dr. Qiao had mentioned before that he would gradually become able to detect other people’s pheromones, and this made him feel the reality of being an Omega more keenly.
Still, brandy-scented pheromones were the best.
“What’s wrong?” Wei Yi sniffed the air, catching a fleeting whiff of a sweet Omega scent, but it vanished before he could identify it.
“Do you really believe him?” An Xiangdi finished the sentence he had left hanging earlier.
“Of course” Wei Yi, initially swept up in his excitement, had been fully convinced. But now, with An Xiangdi’s question, doubt began to creep in.
An Xiangdi thought back and realized Shen Xiao had never explained how he managed to get Wei Yi into the “Survival” crew, let alone secure him a regular spot. There had to be some connections involved. But promising to cut two episodes just like that? That seemed too authoritative. He wasn’t buying it.
“Let’s go.” Seeing Xiao Gu running over with his things, An Xiangdi stood up and headed toward the van.
Wei Yi hurried after him. “Wait, explain it to me. Should I not trust Shen Xiao? Was I tricked?”
“I never said you shouldn’t trust him.” An Xiangdi glanced back. “Besides won’t you find out once you start filming?”
Wei Yi’s heart was unsettled, but he decided to put the matter aside for now. Today, he had managed to get rid of Zhao Zeyun, the troublemaker who had been slandering him, and he needed to celebrate. “Wanna grab dinner? My treat.”
“No.” An Xiangdi refused flatly, already standing by the van.
Wei Yi blocked the door. “Come on, aren’t we good brothers?”
“No.”
Wei Yi was left speechless, nearly choking on his words.
“I’m really not going. You go ahead.” With that, An Xiangdi got into the car. He was tired today, and with his Alpha gone, he couldn’t help but feel a lack of security. All he wanted was to go home and rest.
Xiao Gu followed him into the car and handed An Xiangdi, who was sitting in the back seat, the sour dates Shen Xiao had left in his bag.
Without Shen Xiao around, An Xiangdi slept restlessly that night and woke up before dawn.
Tossing and turning with no hope of falling back asleep, he stood in front of the mirror on a whim, wanting to take a good look at himself.
He had been pregnant for almost two months now. It wasn’t yet time for a noticeable baby bump, but his abdomen was clearly different from before, with a slight, gentle curve.
An Xiangdi couldn’t help but worry. If his scenes in The Yellowing Season didn’t wrap up soon, in another month or two, his baby bump would become impossible to hide no matter what he wore. By then, his identity as an Omega would undoubtedly be exposed.
The ringtone of his phone shattered the morning tranquility. An Xiangdi let go of the hem of his pajamas and walked to the bedside.
“Hello, Brother Yao.” The call was from Yao Honglang.
“Are you on set?” Yao Honglang’s voice was always devoid of emotion, making it impossible to discern his mood.
“Yes, I’m at the hotel.”
“Stay inside for now. Reporters will likely swarm the place soon. You’re trending.” An airport announcement could be heard from Yao Honglang’s end. “See you in three hours.”
“Huh?” An Xiangdi was stunned.
“Later, you’ll have to explain to me properly how, as an Alpha, you managed to get pregnant.” With that, Yao Honglang hung up.
Listening to the dial tone, An Xiangdi numbly lowered his hand and slowly opened Weibo’s trending list.
AnXiangdiMorningSickness was sitting at the top of the list, and the topic had already exploded.
