After Getting Pregnant, I’m Divorcing My Alpha - Chapter 23
The meal didn’t end until nearly eleven o’clock, and An Xiangdi was so sleepy he couldn’t stop yawning.
Forcing himself to bid farewell to Wang Xingxiu and the others, An Xiangdi slumped into the back seat of the van and quickly closed his eyes.
The hotel wasn’t far from the restaurant, and soon the car stopped outside.
In his drowsy state, An Xiangdi felt Shen Xiao lift him up and carry him all the way back to the room. By the time he woke up, it was already seven in the morning.
Before he could even rub his eyes open, Shen Xiao cupped the back of his head and bit his lower lip, while his other hand gently rested on An Xiangdi’s abdomen, his movements tender.
“Don’t mess around, I have to film this morning,” An Xiangdi gasped, pushing him away, his Cupid’s bow reddened from Shen Xiao’s bite.
Shen Xiao looked down at him, his deep gaze silencing An Xiangdi for a moment.
After a brief pause, Shen Xiao closed his eyes and sighed as if resigned. “I’ll go take a shower.”
An Xiangdi stretched his foot out from under the covers and kicked Shen Xiao’s butt, pushing his luck. “Hurry up.”
By the time the two arrived near the set, An Xiangdi still hadn’t finished the small piece of cake in his hand. He didn’t have much of an appetite, but he felt it would be a waste to throw it away.
“Give it to me,” Shen Xiao reached out and took the half-eaten cake. “I’ll be leaving after lunch today. If anything comes up on set, call me.”
“Mm. Haven’t you been pretty busy lately?” An Xiangdi was puzzled. With a workaholic agent like Hua Jiang, Shen Xiao was usually so busy he barely had time to breathe. Why had he been staying with him on set all this time?
“I’m unemployed,” Shen Xiao joked casually.
An Xiangdi looked up at him. “Then we’re done for. I can’t afford to keep you.”
Only then did Shen Xiao tell the truth. “I’m in the process of terminating my contract with the company.”
“Huh?” An Xiangdi was stunned. He had thought Shen Xiao’s “unemployed” comment was a joke, but it turned out to be true. “Don’t do this just because I’m preg”
“It’s not because of that,” Shen Xiao said helplessly. “I’ve set up my own studio. I mentioned it to you on the phone before.”
“What.” An Xiangdi was about to ask when he had said that, but then a recent phone call in the car flashed through his mind.
At the time, he had been feeling nauseous and hadn’t paid close attention to what Shen Xiao was saying, only catching the word “studio.” He had forgotten about it afterward. Now, thinking back, he realized what it meant.
“What about your agent” An Xiangdi thought of Hua Jiang. Not having to deal with his sarcastic remarks anymore was, admittedly, a relief.
“The whole team has been replaced. Liu Qing is in charge for now. I’m meeting with the new team lead this afternoon.” Shen Xiao calculated the time it had been a while since he started preparing the studio, and it was time to get things on track.
“Sounds good.” Breaking away from a management company to set up a personal studio would undoubtedly be busy, but being his own boss and deciding which projects to take on would give him a lot of freedom.
“How is Yao Honglang doing?”
An Xiangdi didn’t know why he suddenly brought up his new agent. “Pretty good.”
Yao Honglang had a similar personality to his both were strong-willed. At first glance, they might seem incompatible, but over time, they developed a mutual respect.
They hadn’t been working together for long, but their efficiency was high, and Yao Honglang was open to good suggestions, so An Xiangdi felt comfortable sharing his ideas and plans.
“Mm,” Shen Xiao responded lightly.
Walking onto the set, An Xiangdi immediately sensed that the atmosphere was different today.
After a quick scan of the surroundings, he spotted an unexpected person standing beside the film emperor, Ying Chong.
“Why is Zhao Zeyun here?” Xiao Gu, who had previously witnessed Li Guan and Zhao Zeyun giving An Xiangdi a hard time, held no goodwill toward Zhao Zeyun and boldly called him by his full name.
An Xiangdi raised an eyebrow. “Xiao Gu, you’ve really grown up.”
Xiao Gu, who was less than a month away from graduating from university, puffed out his chest, trying to uphold An Xiangdi’s dignity.
At that moment, Zhao Zeyun was half-clinging to Ying Chong’s arm, chattering about something, practically hanging off the film emperor.
“How shameless! The film emperor already has a child. Where did this Omega even come from?”
“I heard Director Wang forcibly added a role in the script, specifically for him!”
“Director Wang doesn’t seem like that kind of person. He’s always hated people who rely on connections.”
“Who knows? Maybe he’s a relative of the film emperor?”
“Doesn’t look like it. That white lotus act doesn’t seem genuine.”
A few staff members huddled in a corner, gossiping. An Xiangdi overheard most of it and was also curious about why Zhao Zeyun was here.
“I thought he ran off after you scolded him,” An Xiangdi said, glancing at Shen Xiao before heading to the dressing room.
“Yisheng Entertainment was quite generous when they acquired Royal Films.” They only lowered the price by half a percent. It was already a loss-making company, and aside from An Xiangdi, it hadn’t produced many famous artists.
“Maybe he really is a relative of the film emperor.” An Xiangdi waved it off. On set, acting skills were what mattered. A hollow shell without real talent couldn’t stir up much trouble. Besides, Zhao Zeyun was just a kid. Before, Zhao had been in the shadows while An Xiangdi was in the light, but now both were out in the open. An Xiangdi wasn’t afraid.
After leaving the dressing room, An Xiangdi sat to the side, waiting for his scene.
Gradually, a fragrance wafted through the air. It was a fairly common scent, but due to his special physical condition, An Xiangdi found it irritating.
Feeling nauseous and afraid of drawing attention, he tried to endure it as much as possible.
Unfortunately, the incense was lit in all four corners of the set, likely to help everyone stay alert. In the end, An Xiangdi couldn’t hold back and stepped outside.
Shen Xiao returned with the bayberries Liu Qing had bought but didn’t see An Xiangdi. After searching around, he found him hiding near the set.
An Xiangdi’s face was pale, one hand braced against the wall as he hung his head, panting. The discomfort of morning sickness was truly unbearable.
Shen Xiao hurried over. “Still feeling unwell?”
“Very,” An Xiangdi replied, his stomach churning with acid. “They lit incense on set.”
“I’ll have them remove it.” Shen Xiao’s expression turned stern.
An Xiangdi, having caught his breath a little, grabbed Shen Xiao’s arm. Complaining about incense would make him seem unreasonable. “Forget it.”
No sooner had he spoken than a commotion erupted from the set.
“Teacher Wei! Teacher Wei! Please wait!” A staff member chased after Wei Yi.
“Stop following me!” Wei Yi shouted at the top of his lungs.
The staff member, intimidated, froze in place.
An Xiangdi found it strange and walked over to ask, “What’s going on?”
“T-Teacher An.” the staff member stammered. “Director Wang added a few scenes for the new guest star, Teacher Zhao, to act opposite Teacher Wei, but they kept NG. Teacher Wei was scolded quite harshly.”
An Xiangdi frowned. “Impossible.”
Wei Yi had been scolded by Wang Xingxiu plenty of times since joining the crew, so it was absolutely impossible for him to storm off just because of a few harsh words. Clearly, something had angered him.
“I’ll go check on him.” An Xiangdi handed the bayberries back to Shen Xiao and hurried in the direction Wei Yi had gone.
Shen Xiao gave a quiet “Mm” and walked into the filming set.
Inside the set, most of the staff wore troubled expressions. At the center of the conflict, Zhao Zeyun stood beside Ying Chong with tears in his eyes, looking genuinely aggrieved.
“Teacher Wei didn’t mean it. I’m fine, let’s just drop it,” Zhao Zeyun sobbed, his gaze fixed on Wang Xingxiu.
“How can we just drop it? You’re an Omega! It’s wrong for an Alpha to bully you!” Wang Xingxiu remained silent, but the assistant director, Yang Chu, was so furious his face turned red and his neck thickened.
“Maybe our pheromone compatibility is just too high, so it’s understandable that Teacher Wei couldn’t control himself for a moment.” Zhao Zeyun seemed to be speaking in Wei Yi’s defense.
Shen Xiao’s expression darkened. Clutching his phone, he stepped outside to make a call.
When Cheng Youyi answered the phone, he was sitting in his office leather chair with his dog in his lap. “Brother Shen, what brings you to call this humble one?”
“When you gave me Zhao Zeyun’s information last time, you didn’t mention he had any connection with the film emperor Ying Chong.” Shen Xiao’s voice was chilling.
Cheng Youyi rubbed his arm. “Ying Chong? There’s no connection.”
“People on set say they’re relatives.”
“Relatives? Absolutely not! If I’m lying, may my red hair turn green!” Cheng Youyi swore to the heavens.
“Wait, which set are we talking about? Your wife’s set? That what’s it called again?”
Shen Xiao remained silent.
Cheng Youyi, ever perceptive, pulled up An Xiangdi’s schedule and, upon seeing the words The Yellowing Season, brought up the cast and crew list.
“That guy really has no connection to Ying Chong, but he does have some ties to the assistant director, Yang Chu. Yang Chu’s child had leukemia, and Zhao Qiangjun lent him money for the medical expenses back then. Even though the child didn’t make it, Yang Chu wasn’t asked to repay the money.” Cheng Youyi explained seriously. “But why did he go to your set? Did he get an extra role?”
“But he’s relying on Ying Chong’s influence.”
“Ah this is a bit convoluted. Yang Chu helped Ying Chong when he was just starting out it was a mentor-like relationship. Even though… Yang Chu isn’t exactly a great person, the film emperor repays his debts of gratitude.” Cheng Youyi clicked his tongue. “Ying Chong is really unlucky to be used like this.”
“Hey, Brother Shen, do you think he went to the set deliberately to cause trouble for your wife?”
“Why is he still causing trouble even though his family no longer owns the company? The audacity of this guy, tsk tsk…”
Shen Xiao hung up directly. Since there was no connection to the film emperor, dealing with the situation would be much simpler.
Meanwhile, An Xiangdi found Wei Yi at a small shop near the set.
The 27-year-old Alpha was sitting on the doorstep playing with a yo-yo. Fortunately, the area was fenced off, so fans couldn’t get in. Otherwise, the image of the tall, imposing, and tough Wei Yi in their minds would have been completely shattered.
“Have you no shame?” An Xiangdi asked, slightly out of breath as he leaned against the wall and sat down.
“None,” Wei Yi grumbled, his anger still simmering.
“What happened?”
“That Zhao whatever Omega, does he have a persecution complex? How dare he accuse me of touching him? Am I that kind of person with itchy hands? Why would I touch some green bitch?!” Wei Yi fumed, his eyes wide with anger, veins bulging on his arms.
An Xiangdi was puzzled, “Green bitch what’s that?”
“Bitch ” Wei Yi cursed without hesitation.
“Ha.” An Xiangdi held his head, feeling a headache coming on. Wei Yi was usually easygoing and rarely lost his temper, which showed just how much Zhao Zeyun had managed to get under his skin.
“Let’s go, we’ll deal with him when we get back.” An Xiangdi could only say this for now. He hadn’t yet figured out the relationship between Zhao Zeyun and Ying Chong, so he couldn’t act recklessly.
“No.” Wei Yi’s words were cut off by the ringtone of An Xiangdi’s phone.
It was a message from Shen Xiao.
Xiao Xiao: It’s settled. Do you need me to come pick you up?
“Your big brother has taken care of it. Let’s go.” Though surprised, An Xiangdi patted Wei Yi’s back and stood up abruptly.
Wei Yi stared in astonishment, about to ask what had happened, when he saw An Xiangdi sway and collapse forward.
Startled, Wei Yi leaped up and caught him. “Hey, what’s wrong with you?”
“Urgh” Damn it, he had stood up too quickly and now felt nauseous.
Wei Yi: ???
