- Chapter 3 - How Will You Know Without Trying?
In the evening, Sang Luo took a walk around the first floor, but Huo Xun was not there. He placed the IOU on the table and returned to his room.
The amount Sang Luo borrowed was exactly what he needed to terminate his contract with his previous agency. He had written the IOU long ago, but he simply had not found an opportunity to give it to Huo Xun until now.
After scrolling through his phone for a while, Sang Luo felt bored. He lay flat on the bed, lost in thought. After a moment, he blinked. The bright white light was somewhat piercing; after staring for too long, a mist quickly gathered in his eyes. At a glance, the crimson at the corners of his eyes and the red mole at the end of his eyebrow seemed to merge. His peach blossom eyes remained clear and cool, never quite losing their sense of detachment.
About half an hour later, there was a knock at the door.
“Come in.”
Huo Xun entered wearing a bathrobe, his fair skin still damp. He had a slender yet powerful build with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. His straight, long legs were impossible to ignore. His deep eyes narrowed slightly, appearing unfathomable.
“Did you leave this?” he asked, holding the IOU.
Sang Luo’s gaze swept over Huo Xun, and his heart skipped a beat. Suppressing the strange sensation, he answered steadily, “Yes.”
The man had pushed his hair back, revealing impeccable features. He was the embodiment of raw charisma. He slowly folded the note, his long, striking fingers drawing attention with every movement.
“There is no need for an IOU. What I gave you is yours,” Huo Xun said.
Sang Luo refused him directly. “This money was a loan. I will pay it back.”
Leaning against the doorframe, Huo Xun lowered his head slightly. After a moment, he nodded. “Fine. We will consider it a loan.” Perhaps because he had just showered, his voice was somewhat raspy. “When is your interview?”
“Tomorrow afternoon.” Sang Luo misunderstood his intent and replied indifferently, “Do not worry. I will be out.”
“Where will you go?”
Huo Xun’s question was a bit odd, but Sang Luo answered anyway. He looked up, his obsidian eyes appearing bottomless. “I will just find a quiet place somewhere.”
“There is no need for that. You can use the guest room on the fourth floor. The production crew will not say anything they should not.”
After saying this, Huo Xun left. Sang Luo knew the matter was settled. Watching his departing back, Sang Luo frowned slightly. Huo Xun’s attention toward him seemed excessive. This was not good news. The debts of his past life were paid; he did not want any further entanglement. But ultimately, that was not for him to decide alone.
The following afternoon, Sang Luo waited outside for the production crew.
“Thank you all for your hard work.”
The host froze the moment they met. She only now believed that someone so beautiful truly existed; he was surely a favorite of God.
“It is no trouble at all!” The host was a gentle woman. It seemed Huo Xun had given specific instructions because she showed no surprise at Sang Luo’s presence here.
“Please, come in,” Sang Luo said with a faint, gentle smile. He seemed warm, yet his natural aura of detachment did not diminish in the slightest.
The interview team was simple, consisting only of the host and a cameraman. Upon reaching the fourth floor, Sang Luo opened the door. “Would you like something to drink?” He walked to the refrigerator. “Is juice okay?”
“No, thank you!” The host was startled. She did not dare let this important figure wait on her.
Sang Luo maintained his faint smile. “Juice it is, then.”
The group sat at the table, and Sang Luo signaled that they could begin.
“I will just ask a few questions. There is no need to be nervous.” In reality, the host was more nervous than Sang Luo. This was the legal spouse of Movie Star Huo Xun. If this were exposed, the production team would be finished. Guests were not allowed to have romantic partners before joining a dating show.
Somehow, Huo Xun had convinced the director. The host had only vaguely overheard Huo Xun say that if Sang Luo found someone he liked, they would divorce immediately. She could only think that the industry was truly chaotic.
“Mr. Sang, what kind of partner do you like?”
Sang Luo thought for a moment. “A loyal one.”
The host glanced at him. “And what do you dislike?”
Sang Luo answered quickly and decisively, “Deception.”
The host paused. “What about white lies?”
“It depends on the situation.” Sang Luo’s gaze drifted casually, yet he looked as if he could see through everything. “No one likes to be deceived.”
The host was impressed inwardly but did not let it show. “Next question. Have you ever been in a relationship?”
“No.”
The host used her fist to hide an uncontrollable smile. “Then, have you ever had a secret crush on anyone?”
Sang Luo did not hide it, and there was no ripple in his tone. “I have.”
Given that he had never been in a relationship, the host imagined a tragic drama of unrequited love. “Then…”
“There is no possibility for us,” Sang Luo said firmly. His expression remained unchanged as he looked up. “Next question, please.”
“If two outstanding people, or even multiple people, liked you at the same time, how would you choose?”
This question was a bit sharp, and the host feared Sang Luo might not be able to answer.
“I suppose it would depend on the first impression.”
The host thought about it and decided that was a fair answer. “Then I wish for you to find a lifelong companion on this variety show. We look forward to our formal meeting.”
As the interview ended, Sang Luo looked up calmly. His voice was warm. “Thank you for your hard work.”
“You are far too polite.” The host had developed a great deal of goodwill toward Sang Luo. “We will head out now.”
“Alright.”
After seeing the crew off, Sang Luo began searching online for reliable entertainment companies. If he wanted to follow this path, he needed the backing of an agency, especially as an ordinary person. Aside from Starry Heavens, which was managed by Huo Xun and was a giant in the industry, there were several other good companies.
Sang Luo searched the web and finally settled on Fanghai Media. He would have to use this variety show to demonstrate his value; otherwise, Fanghai would not sign him.
He was so focused that he did not notice Huo Xun had returned. It was not until he heard a sound nearby that he realized a man was standing beside him. Huo Xun glanced at the screen on his phone and asked casually, “Did you terminate your contract?”
Sang Luo gave a brief affirmative. Huo Xun was quite interested in the current Sang Luo and had finished reading his files today. That was why he had returned now to test Sang Luo’s attitude.
“You want to sign with Fanghai?” Huo Xun crossed his long legs. Even without any specific action, he possessed an aura of looking down on the world. Sang Luo had always known that Huo Xun was destined to be a leader. “Competition at Fanghai is extremely fierce. It is common for minor celebrities to become sacrifices.”
Huo Xun spoke unhurriedly, his good voice carrying a sense of allure.
“And?” Sang Luo’s curiosity was piqued. He tilted his head slightly, looking forward to the next topic.
Huo Xun was succinct. “Sign with Starry Heavens.”
Sang Luo was silent for a moment before he suddenly laughed. However, there was no hint of mirth in his obsidian eyes. “Would you even want someone like me?”
The youth looked stunning when he laughed. The corners of his peach blossom eyes tilted up slightly, appearing uncharacteristically alluring. Huo Xun’s deep eyes held a hint of a smile. He looked up lazily.
“How will you know without trying?”
Neither of them cared about the ambiguity of that sentence. They only wanted to see through to the other’s true intentions.
