- After Flirting With the Villain, the Stunning Beauty Ran Away While Pregnant
- Chapter 4 - Chengning Don’t you like me?
“What flavor do you like?”
This question, which seemed ordinary at first hearing, was like a small pebble suddenly tossed into the not-so-calm lake of Tang Mo’s heart, stirring the crystal-clear waters.
Ripples spread out one after another with a rhythmic and unique cadence, beautiful and moving.
Tang Mo couldn’t quite describe the thoughts surging through his mind at that moment; they were a mixture of his unspoken secret crush and a bold, reckless desire for plunder.
In the end, when he met Su Chengning’s frank and pure gaze, it dissolved into a frustrated silence.
He didn’t dare speak his answer, choosing instead to express his bashfulness through a silent, crimson blush.
On the way back, Tang Mo sat in quiet silence.
Su Chengning didn’t speak either, focusing intently on driving the car.
It wasn’t until the car pulled into the apartment parking lot that Su Chengning broke the long-standing stillness.
“It’s Friday today, don’t you have classes?”
Tang Mo glanced at his phone and spoke with calm composure, “No classes today.”
In truth, he did have class today, but in his heart, everything else combined didn’t weigh even one-ten-thousandth as much as the person in front of him. Besides, Wang Shu would help him fool the teacher during roll call; skipping an occasional class was of no consequence to him.
“I remember you attend Peking University.”
Su Chengning got out of the car and picked up the lighter shopping bags to carry, while Tang Mo followed closely, taking over the remaining two large, heavy shopping bags.
Loaded with their purchases, the two of them took the elevator up.
“Yes.” Tang Mo stood to Su Chengning’s right. If he turned his head slightly, he could see Su Chengning’s perfect profile.
He took one look and then pulled his gaze back not because he didn’t want to look longer, but because the elevator mirror clearly reflected the two of them standing side by side, making his every move obvious.
“School of Economics, the same major as you, Brother Chengning.”
“Oh—” Su Chengning dragged the sound out a bit. He turned his head as if surprised. “Then I should call you ‘Junior’ (Shidi).”
“It’s a pity I graduated many years ago.”
As he said this, his tone carried a hint of regret.
As for what he was regretting, perhaps only Su Chengning himself knew.
Tang Mo looked at him somewhat blankly, his tone uncertain. “…You are still my Senior.”
Su Chengning asked with a slight smile, “Do you like being my younger brother that much?”
His captivating peach-blossom eyes crinkled into a smile, causing Tang Mo to instinctively hold his breath. He nodded dumbly, only to hear the other man suddenly let out a soft snort.
“I don’t particularly like having another younger brother.”
Tang Mo’s expression instantly soured. His stunned look was like a pathetic puppy that had just been scolded by its master.
Aggrieved, hurt, wanting to cry.
Just then, the elevator stopped, and Su Chengning stepped out first.
“Hurry out.”
Tang Mo stood dazed in the elevator; his tall silhouette looked particularly solitary in the cramped space, making him seem quite pitiful.
Su Chengning grabbed him with his free hand and pulled him out. “Stupid, what are you thinking? The elevator doors were about to close.”
Tang Mo pursed his lips, his eyes staring at Su Chengning with a dim gloom.
That look instantly reminded Su Chengning of the lonely, helpless young man from his past life. To avenge him, that man’s methods had been so ruthless he disowned his own kin, yet in the dead of night, he would suffer from insomnia until dawn.
Back then, he could only watch helplessly as the boy became more and more withdrawn, more and more cold.
“Brother Chengning, do you… not like me?”
He felt sad in his heart. His originally clear and clean eyes were shrouded in darkness. After holding it in for a long time, he finally blurted out this question.
Su Chengning’s eyes widened suddenly; he hadn’t expected Tang Mo to have such a thought.
This guy is probably…
He originally wanted to answer: “When did I ever say I didn’t like you?”
But seeing Tang Mo’s conflicted expression longing for a negative answer while fearing an affirmative one a bit of “mischief” rose in Su Chengning’s heart for some reason.
He turned his back, his tone somewhat indifferent as he said, “As long as you properly atone for your brother’s sins, naturally, I won’t dislike you.”
“Oh.” Tang Mo’s voice was muffled. He had forgotten he was here to atone for his brother.
Damn it, he didn’t want to atone for his brother at all.
If the object of atonement hadn’t been Su Chengning, he would probably have preferred to give his brother a brutal beating preferably breaking his “third leg” to stop him from coming out to ruin people’s lives.
Tang Mo followed closely behind Su Chengning into the house.
Su Chengning’s apartment was the one closest to his company, located in a prime area. The neighborhood was equipped with all sorts of facilities; it was the kind of house many office workers envied but could never save enough money to buy in a lifetime.
He lived here most of the time, only occasionally returning to the Su family home to accompany his parents.
“There are slippers in the cabinet by the door; pick a pair for yourself.”
Su Chengning entered and changed his slippers, placing the shopping bags on the kitchen counter.
His culinary skills were poor; he rarely cooked for himself, his limit being roughly at the level of boiling noodles or frying an egg. However, the kitchen was fully equipped and organized in an orderly fashion.
“My mom often comes over to cook for me, so basically everything you need is here,” Su Chengning briefly explained to Tang Mo before handing the entire kitchen over to him.
He actually didn’t know how Tang Mo’s cooking was, as he hadn’t seen Tang Mo cook in his previous life.
But on the way over, Tang Mo had guaranteed his skills with such confidence that Su Chengning couldn’t help but feel a flicker of anticipation.
“The pots and pans are in the cabinets; find them yourself.”
Seeing Tang Mo roll up his sleeves as if ready to start, Su Chengning raised an eyebrow with interest.
Tang Mo had been very silent since entering the house. Whatever Su Chengning said, he would simply nod. It wasn’t until he met Su Chengning’s slightly scrutinizing and curious gaze that he turned his head away shyly.
“Brother Chengning, you go rest for a bit. I’ll call you when the food is ready.”
He figured that since he was here to atone, he naturally had to take good care of the other person’s daily life. A faint smile appeared on his face; he couldn’t fail at the very first step.
Su Chengning nodded noncommittally. “Fine, then I’ll go take a shower and change clothes first.”
Once Su Chengning left, Tang Mo stood alone in the large kitchen, cheering himself up.
“Tang Mo, you can do this.”
In the bathroom, the steaming heat blurred his vision, vaguely revealing a tall and slender figure. Su Chengning tilted his head back slightly, the hot water flowing slowly down his elegant neck, his fair skin quickly flushed red by the steam.
The physical relaxation made him let out a comfortable groan. Taking advantage of the shower, Su Chengning carefully sorted through the current timeline.
The point of his rebirth was exactly the major turning point of his past life. According to the original trajectory, he should have been lying in a hospital emergency room after a car accident. Due to the double blow of betrayal and a broken leg, he would have become depressed, his temper volatile, and he would have lost the heart to manage the Su Group.
As Jiang Baiyu took Tang Chen and the Su Group away from him, he ultimately chose to jump off a building.
“What a fool.”
His palm lightly wiped the condensation off the glass door, revealing that excessively handsome face.
He once couldn’t understand why given his looks, family background, and his own excellence someone could be so blind as to choose Jiang Baiyu, that illegitimate son.
He didn’t understand the reason until after he died.
Back then, understanding was useless because he was already dead.
But now that he had a second chance, Su Chengning would absolutely not follow the established plot to fulfill the “beautiful love” of that scumbag and the villain.
He wanted even more to make up for the person he owed that idiot who had sacrificed his entire life and even his soul for him.
When Su Chengning finished his shower and came out, he smelled an enticing aroma.
His stomach made a sound at the right time. He murmured, “Does this kid really have such good cooking skills?”
With a hint of doubt and uncertainty, Su Chengning casually tied the belt of his bathrobe and followed the scent to the dining room.
The sight of three dishes and one soup, perfect in color, aroma, and taste, immediately whetted his appetite.
Tang Mo had just taken off his apron and was hesitating whether to call Su Chengning when he looked up to see the other man walking over with a beaming smile.
Tang Mo hadn’t expected Su Chengning to look so languid after a shower so languid that he would casually walk out in a bathrobe even with an outsider present.
The bathrobe wasn’t tied very securely; it was loose and draped poorly, and those two long legs were making their powerful presence known quite clearly.
He only dared to steal a glance, but his mind became full of those fair, tender legs; it seemed as if every step was dancing on his heartstrings.
“It looks very delicious.” Su Chengning’s attention was entirely on the delicacies before him; he didn’t notice the change in Tang Mo’s expression at all.
Tang Mo subconsciously swallowed: It really does look delicious.
The apron in his hand was crumpled into a ball. He tried his best to restrain his gaze from lingering on the wide-open collar and the exposed snowy skin as he pretended to be calm and entered the kitchen.
“Cheng… Brother Chengning, I’ll get you some rice.”
He thought his tone was very steady, yet a slight tremor could still be heard in his voice.
Even those distinct, translucent grains of white rice made him think of Su Chengning’s fair, translucent skin.
Tang Mo thumped his head to dispel his somewhat indecent thoughts and forced himself to calmly place a bowl of rice in front of Su Chengning.
“I couldn’t tell you had these skills.” Su Chengning looked up, giving him a smile so brilliant it was dazzling.
With a clatter, the rice bowl in Tang Mo’s hand dropped directly onto the dining table.
Su Chengning glanced at him with slight surprise. “Hungry? You can’t even hold a rice bowl?”
He said it casually, with a bit of a laugh, but the laugh only made Tang Mo’s face flush deeper and his heart race faster.
Su Chengning noticed that Tang Mo’s gaze was almost glued to him, and only then did he belatedly realize what was happening.
His slender fingers tapped lightly on the tabletop. The unique rhythm, combined with that breathtakingly vivid smile, made Tang Mo’s heart flutter even more.
“Does it look good?” he asked softly, his tone as intimate and ambiguous as that of a lover.
Tang Mo nodded dazed.
Su Chengning seemed very satisfied with his reaction and laughed lowly.
“Eat.”
“Okay.”
Tang Mo felt a weight in his hand and realized there was now a bowl of rice in it.
“Let’s eat.” Su Chengning sat down calmly, picked up his rice, and started eating.
He was truly hungry.
Tang Mo looked down at his full bowl of rice, suddenly feeling disappointed.
Oh, so we’re just eating rice.
If not eating rice, then what…
He guiltily stole a glance at the man focused on eating and pursed his lips.
Even though his cooking was excellent, the food felt like chewing wax.
Su Chengning ate very contentedly. After he was full, he didn’t forget to urge Tang Mo to take a shower.
“You smell like cooking fumes; go wash up quickly.”
He pushed Tang Mo into the bathroom with a look of mock disgust.
“I don’t have a change of clothes.” Tang Mo stood blankly in the bathroom, somewhat at a loss.
“Wear mine.”
Su Chengning only realized after saying this that there was a height difference between them; his clothes would likely be tight on Tang Mo.
He rummaged through the closet and finally found an unopened bathrobe.
This was one his mother had bought in the wrong size and stuffed in the back of the closet.
Su Chengning stuffed the bathrobe into the bathroom. “Just make do with this.”
The afternoon sun cast a warm and soft glow through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Su Chengning leaned against the headboard and made a call to his assistant.
There were several missed calls and unread messages on his phone, all from Tang Chen.
Su Chengning didn’t even look at them, directly putting the other party on the blacklist.
In the bathroom, Tang Mo had just finished his shower and put on the bathrobe when he heard his phone ping.
Wang Shu: Brother Mo, are you coming back to school today?
Tang Mo hesitated, not knowing how to answer.
Wang Shu didn’t seem to care whether he replied or not and didn’t send a second message. This allowed Tang Mo to breathe a sigh of relief, acting as if he hadn’t seen it.
He turned off his phone and lightly pushed open the bathroom door.
The bathroom was connected to Su Chengning’s bedroom. As soon as he opened the door, he saw the man lying lazily on the bed.
The sunlight slanted in, carrying the warmth of a spring day and tinting the atmosphere with an ambiguous, lingering charm.
Tang Mo suddenly didn’t know if he should go out.
Hearing the sound, Su Chengning saw that he was done washing and beckoned to him.
In a good mood, he said with a slight smile, “Come here.”
Tang Mo hesitated awkwardly where he stood. That look made Su Chengning laugh; he took a couple of steps over, grabbed Tang Mo’s hand, and pressed him directly onto the bed.
the weight of two adult men caused the bed to dip slightly, yet it supported them perfectly.
Tang Mo’s hands, pinned to his sides, instinctively clenched and loosened. This passive and ambiguous posture made him bashfully avoid the other man’s direct gaze.
“Do you still remember what you’re here for?”
Su Chengning spoke with a hint of “malice,” and with a lift of his leg, he sat astride Tang Mo’s body.
Tang Mo’s originally awkward expression instantly shifted. His eyes became dark and deep, and his whole body stiffened like a piece of hard stone.
He opened his mouth to speak but felt as if he were being scorched by the skin-to-skin contact, as nervous as if facing a great enemy.
Su Chengning, as if refusing to let him off, grabbed his collar. Looking down from above with an arrogant and domineering air, he spoke:
“Did you think atonement was just making a meal?”
“Once a person is full, they want to do other things.”
“Have you ever heard the phrase: ‘When one is warm and well-fed, their thoughts turn to lust’?”
