- Chapter 5 - It really Hurts
When Tang Mo got out of bed with light, cautious steps, Su Chengning woke up in a daze from the disturbance.
However, his body was too exhausted and weak; he truly lacked the strength to open his eyes. He simply mumbled, “Get lost!”
Tang Mo had his pants half-on, with one leg still bare. He was tall and long-legged; even though he looked somewhat ridiculous in his current state, he still possessed an enviable physique.
Standing on one leg, he found himself in a dilemma where he couldn’t quite finish putting them on, yet couldn’t take them off either.
He thought to himself: It’s impossible for me to “get lost”!
Looking up, he saw that Su Chengning had fallen back asleep.
He let out a heavy sigh of relief in his heart and hurriedly scrambled into his old clothes. He looked at the clothes on his body with some disdain, but the bathrobe he had worn earlier had been torn to shreds, and the belt was nowhere to be found. He was truly too embarrassed to wear it again.
Before walking out of the room, Tang Mo took one last look back.
He saw Su Chengning roll over, revealing an arm outside the quilt that was covered in faint green and purple bruises.
Tang Mo instinctively scratched the bridge of his nose; those were the “sinful” marks left on the other man by his heavy-handed, unskilled, and crude behavior.
“Be gentler.”
“It hurts.”
“Do you even know how to do this?”
When he was being rebuffed by Su Chengning, Tang Mo had felt a twinge of regret for not finding an opportunity to properly learn some techniques. His “driving skills” were indeed terrible.
However, practice makes perfect. Next time, he would definitely be more skillful.
He walked out of the room with a silly grin, fumbling his way into the kitchen by the light of his phone. Turning on the light, the entire kitchen instantly brightened up.
There were plenty of ingredients in the kitchen. Tang Mo picked through them and selected some light, palatable materials, intending to brew some porridge.
He whistled happily while cooking the porridge. Realizing he was also a bit hungry, he planned to just cook a bowl of noodles for himself to get by.
Right then, his phone suddenly rang.
Startled, Tang Mo scrambled to pull out his phone. It was a call from his mother.
“Mom.”
Tang Mother was clearly in a good mood; she opened with a sweet, syrupy, “Sonny boy.”
Tang Mo immediately covered the phone’s speaker and peeked toward the bedroom before whispering, “Mom, why are you shouting so loud?”
Tang Mother seemed to sense something unusual about her son and lowered her voice as well. “What’s wrong? Is everyone in your dorm asleep?” She glanced at the time. “You’re young; why sleep so early? Don’t tell me you guys are planning to go out and do something ‘bad’ in the middle of the night.”
When she mentioned the word “bad,” she even chuckled twice.
Tang Mo was speechless at his mother’s way of thinking. “I’m at a friend’s house.”
“Did you go to the Wang family’s place?” Upon hearing “friend,” Tang Mother immediately thought of Wang Shu. These two boys were usually as close as if they shared the same pair of pants; she was used to it.
“No,” Tang Mo denied immediately. “It’s a different friend.”
“You have other friends?” Tang Mother’s interest was piqued instantly. “When are you going to bring them home for me to see?”
“It just so happens your big brother went on a business trip on short notice. Do you want to come home and stay for the weekend?”
“Big brother went on a business trip?”
“Yes. Apparently, there’s something at the branch office that needs his personal attention.”
This was certainly good news. Tang Mo’s mood was visibly delighted.
However, thinking of Su Chengning, he immediately turned his mother down. “I have some things to do these next two days; I might not be able to come home.”
Tang Mother was instantly disappointed. “It’s rare for your brother to be away, and you still won’t come home. Tell me, how long has it been since you came back to see me?”
“You have the Old Man to keep you company.”
“Is that the same thing?”
Tang Mo really wanted to say it was, but fearing his mother would be relentless, he said tactfully, “I’ll definitely come home to see you when I have time.”
“I don’t care! I haven’t seen my son in a month. These past two days I’ve missed you so much I can’t eat or sleep well I’ve even gained two pounds!”
Tang Mo: “…”
That was definitely the Old Man’s “contribution.” His family’s Old Man was a wife-doting maniac; he understood.
Tang Mo: “Mom, you look better when you’re a bit fuller.”
Tang Mother immediately beamed and looked in the mirror. “Really?” She struck a few poses and found that the qipao she was wearing did indeed have more charm this way. “Then don’t come back.”
She hung up the phone heartlessly.
Tang Mo: “…”
He put away his phone expressionlessly and vigorously stirred the pot of porridge. He hadn’t planned on going home anyway, but after his mother’s antics, he felt a bit unsettled.
Women were indeed hard to figure out, especially middle-aged ones.
By the time Su Chengning woke up, it was completely dark outside. The bedside lamp was diligently emitting a faint, dim orange light.
As soon as he looked up, he saw a black head drooping low by the edge of the bed.
The owner of the head seemed to have fallen asleep leaning against the bedside, though the posture was awkward. His tightly furrowed brows showed that he was not comfortable in his sleep.
Su Chengning glanced at those long legs of his, which were cramped together miserably; it was a miracle the guy could even sleep.
He moved his aching, limp body. Clearly, this nap hadn’t helped him recover; instead, he could feel the abnormalities in his body even more acutely.
“It really hurts.”
He only moved slightly, yet he gritted his teeth in pain. The next moment, he directly kicked the guy who was sleeping soundly.
“Hiss—”
Su Chengning couldn’t hold back that sound; it rang out clearly through the entire room.
Tang Mo jumped up abruptly, only to slump back down instantly.
“Brother Chengning, where does it hurt?” Ignoring his own state, he looked up and saw Su Chengning staring at him with a dark expression, seemingly very angry.
A straight, fair leg was exposed outside the quilt, with dots of green and purple marks clinging to the delicate skin. He took one glance and guiltily looked away.
Su Chengning tried his best to relax his entire body and lie flat on the soft bed to alleviate the discomfort.
“These marks on my body are all from you biting me.” He raised an arm, brandishing it clearly in front of Tang Mo.
Not just his arm his entire body was a “splendid” mix of green and purple.
Tang Mo lowered his head in silence. I just… didn’t kiss very well.
“Are you part dog?”
At this moment, how could Tang Mo dare to talk back? He just kept his head down and took the scolding obediently. He was familiar with this scene; whenever the Old Man made his mother angry, his mother loved to lecture him like this. At such a time, any attempt to defend oneself was a sign of disrespect to one’s “wife.”
Tang Mo felt that since he had already done those intimate things with him, he naturally had to respect him. So what if he was scolded a bit? It didn’t hurt or itch, and it wouldn’t peel off a layer of skin.
Su Chengning had no idea what Tang Mo was thinking. Seeing him keep his head down without a word, he suddenly felt a surge of irritation.
“I’m asking you a question. Are you mute?” He originally wanted to poke Tang Mo with his foot, but even a slight movement tugged at a certain place, so he could only give up with a cold face.
“It’s all my fault. You’re right to scold me, Brother Chengning.”
“Scold me as much as you want.”
Tang Mo looked up, speaking with complete sincerity and a candid face, a silly smile plastered across his young, handsome features.
Su Chengning: “…”
Suddenly, he couldn’t bring himself to scold him anymore.
Seeing that Su Chengning had stopped scolding him for a while, Tang Mo grew a bit bolder and asked tentatively, “Brother Chengning, are you hungry? I made some porridge.”
Su Chengning looked at him without saying a word. Stupid, and a bit dim-witted.
Tang Mo thought he was still angry and pressed his lips together, not daring to speak again.
“I’m in this state; do you expect me to get out of bed and serve the porridge myself?”
“Oh, I’ll go.”
Seeing him still sitting on the floor, Su Chengning urged him again.
Tang Mo spoke up miserably, “Brother Chengning, my legs are numb—”
Su Chengning gave him a heartless, cold sneer. “Why didn’t you think about your legs getting numb while you were sleeping?”
“I saw you were sleeping soundly, and I didn’t dare get on the bed—” He spoke softer and softer, seemingly a bit embarrassed.
Once the numbness in his legs faded, Tang Mo went to the kitchen, served the porridge, and carefully brought it to the bedroom on a tray.
“It’s still a bit hot.”
Su Chengning took a glance and found the porridge to be rather bland. Not just bland it was purely a bowl of white rice porridge.
Tang Mo watched his every expression. Seeing his disdain, he explained, “I saw people online saying one shouldn’t eat greasy food [afterwards], so I made white porridge for you.”
He had originally wanted to add other ingredients, but after reading what those people online said with such conviction, he decided to stick to white porridge for the sake of health.
Su Chengning suddenly found this bowl of white porridge exceptionally an eyesore. Flavorless and tasteless.
“What if I don’t eat it?” He looked up at his leisure at the young man who was half-bowed and holding the tray, catching the flash of surprise on Tang Mo’s face from his angle.
Tang Mo looked at the white porridge in his hands, then at the cold and proud man before him. After hesitating for a moment, he said in a low voice, “It will take time to make something else now. Brother Chengning, how about you have a few bites first to line your stomach?”
“Didn’t you say I can’t eat greasy food?”
“Then what can you make for me?”
Tang Mo thought for a moment and asked tentatively, “Noodles?”
“Add pork ribs.”
“No.”
“Then I won’t eat.” He had no appetite for plain, watery noodles.
Tang Mo knitted his brows in distress, seemingly at a loss for how to persuade Su Chengning.
Su Chengning saw him standing there by the bed with the white porridge, staring at him without moving, as if they were in a contest of patience. He wasn’t actually intending to make things difficult for Tang Mo on purpose; it was just that the guy’s technique was so poor that his whole body felt miserable now. Naturally, his temper wasn’t great.
“I said I’m not eating, and that’s that,” he said with a cold tone. “Besides, I remember saying that you could leave once we were done.”
“What? You treat my words as farts and insist on staying here to annoy me?”
Tang Mo’s hand, which was steadily holding the porridge, trembled. His furrowed brows slumped down, looking utterly dejected as if wounded by Su Chengning’s words.
” I didn’t,” he said in a muffled voice, seemingly losing the vitality a person of his age should have. “I was just afraid you’d be hungry when you woke up.”
“Brother Chengning, you really aren’t suited for greasy food right now.” He slowly handed over the white porridge again, only to be rejected once more.
“How about I go buy you something else?”
“No need.”
Tang Mo’s aggrieved look made Su Chengning feel a bit soft-hearted. He turned his head away to think, then spoke up, “I’ll have someone take you back.”
Tang Mo: “…” Sob, I want to cry.
Assistant Qiu received the call and rushed over in a hurry.
Su Chengning sat on the leather sofa in the living room, looking somewhat listless. His waist was limp, and he relied entirely on the cushions behind him for support.
On the other sofa, Tang Mo was like a large puppy that had been severely lectured for a mistake, hanging his head low without saying a word.
When Assistant Qiu entered, he glanced at the two people in the living room. He immediately felt the atmosphere was a bit subtle.
“President Su.” He stood respectfully to the side.
“Have you handled everything I assigned to you?”
Su Chengning looked up at the silent young man. The youth had his head down, appearing to be intensely studying the material and craftsmanship of the floor.
“Everything has been handled,” Assistant Qiu replied, then handed over a bag of items. “This is the set of clothes you asked for, President Su.”
Su Chengning didn’t take them; he spoke directly to Tang Mo, “Tang Mo, go change your clothes. I’ll have Xiao Qiu take you back in a moment.”
Assistant Qiu immediately handed the clothes over, offering a polite and professional smile.
Upon hearing this, Tang Mo slowly raised his head and gave Assistant Qiu a lukewarm glance. His dark eyes seemed to contain a certain cold, murderous intent, causing Assistant Qiu’s warm and well-meaning smile to stiffen.
This second young master of the Tang family seemed not very easy to get along with.
After Tang Mo left, Su Chengning sat alone on the sofa. After a long silence, he took out his phone. Someone on the other side of the ocean was awakened by the call and looked at the caller ID.
“Big brother, I just finished a major surgery. Can’t you let me sleep in peace?”
Su Chengning ignored his complaints and said directly, “If one day you found out that you were just a ‘cannon fodder’ who existed for the sake of the protagonists’ beautiful love story, but someone was willing to risk everything, even death, to avenge that cannon fodder… how would you repay that person?”
“What are you talking about? What cannon fodder? What repayment?”
“Just answer me.” Su Chengning stared at the floor, his tone solemn.
The person on the other end was silent for a moment, then followed Su Chengning’s train of thought and asked, “Does that person love the cannon fodder?”
Su Chengning: “Mm.”
“If I were that cannon fodder, I would definitely use myself to repay him.”
“For example going to bed?”
“Not necessarily,” the person said. “If I knew he loved me, I would definitely respond to his love.”
“Even if it meant being targeted by the protagonists?”
What if they still ended up with the same fate as in the previous life?
Su Chengning didn’t want to see Tang Mo go up against the protagonist gong and shou for his sake again; he didn’t want any accidents to happen to him.
Perhaps… not loving, and just going to bed, would be fine. Letting him be happy for a while would also be good.
