- Chapter 7 - He Was His Desire
“Mhm.” His voice was clear and cold, acknowledging the man with a slight nasal tone. He possessed the composure of a scholar; he looked the other person in the eye when speaking, and his tone was neither humble nor arrogant.
Those eyes, which contained no desire, no greed, and no sign of cowardice, looked at him quietly, distant and reserved.
He Yunqi was accustomed to darkness and filth. To him, Gu He’s refined and introverted nature was unexpectedly clean and pure. Though it was only a brief exchange of glances, those seemingly indifferent eyes were the easiest to fall for. Perhaps clean and pure things naturally attracted people of his kind.
He wanted to tear apart that cold outer shell; he wanted to shred his defenses.
The prey now belonged to him.
He was not a saint, and he would not pity anyone without reason.
He Yunqi’s thin lips curled. He lowered his voice, which was a rarity; he seemed to be in a good mood as he spoke with a gentle, coaxing undertone. “Then I must see your sincerity first.”
The others could not help but be startled. The boy was like a completely different person from the cold youth of a moment ago. No wonder he looked down on Zhao Pengtai; his ambition was certainly not small.
Those who knew a thing or two about He Yunqi felt their pupils dilate in shock. Even though he had been away for several years, the rogue nature and hostility in his bones could not be changed; yet now, everything was different.
Gu He’s brain felt swollen and muddled. His internal organs began to churn, and he could not quite describe what he was longing for. Unexpectedly, his body went soft, and he slumped into He Yunqi’s embrace. A faint, humming sound escaped his nose. Following the momentum, Gu He pressed against the man’s chest. The little fox that usually bared its fierce fangs had finally retracted its claws.
“Mm.”
The response he gave was a rapid breath that seemed to carry a hint of sweetness.
The people surrounding them almost dropped their jaws, some unable to look directly at the scene. After all, they could not fathom the temperament of this Great King of Hell. It was rumored that he had a severe physical contact disorder. In an instant, they felt a sense of mourning for the youth.
Gu He was clearly startled and sat frozen. He had not intended to throw himself into the man’s arms, truly.
He Yunqi reached out and stroked the youth’s head. Gu He did not dodge, nor did he dare to.
Zhao Pengtai’s teeth were nearly crushed from grinding them as he watched this scene. He had accidentally handed the boy a golden opportunity for a meteoric rise.
Xu Jichuan glanced over casually and gave Xie Jun’s sleeve a small tug, whispering, “Should we disinfect the scene?”
Actually, he wanted to ask if he should call the crematorium to make an early reservation.
“The Seventh Master will skin you in a moment.” Xie Jun sighed. How much time had passed and this guy still had no situational awareness? In any case, Xie Jun felt that the Seventh Master did not hate this; in fact, he seemed to be enjoying it. How ghostly.
Xu Jichuan had not always been by He Yunqi’s side, so many things were relayed to him by Xie Jun. He heard that people abroad played quite wildly. Was it because it was too “meaty” overseas that the master needed to nibble on some “white cabbage” to cleanse his palate now that he was home? He had prepared other things, but looking at this, they probably would not be needed.
The expression Gu He revealed was deceptively friendly. His cold voice, tainted by the scent of alcohol, took on a soft, drunken blur. The cheap air suddenly became incredibly luxurious. “I do not want to be here. Is that okay?”
He looked up and saw the rugged jawline, the prominence of the Adam’s apple, and the arrogant majesty in those eyes. He Yunqi was not a good man, but he was not one to do evil at every moment either.
The person in his arms radiated the faint, crisp fragrance unique to a youth. Dark eyelashes drooped, appearing unexpectedly obedient.
He Yunqi’s primary reason for returning this time was that the old man of the He family was critically ill. A group of “parasites” in the company had gone on strike, relying on the secret connections they had built over the years to conspire to bring down the He family. In truth, he no longer had much connection to the He family. He and the old man were separated by three generations of blood, and their relationship had long since faded to the edge of the Pacific Ocean.
Unfortunately, the old man’s biological son was truly incompetent and could not shoulder the burden. No matter how much He Yunqi wanted to ignore it, he could not let something named He fall into the hands of others. It was, after all, ancestral property. Thus, he was invited back to clean house.
He Yunqi himself was a man who inspired awe and fear. When he had just reached adulthood, he became the top figure competing for the family business against his uncles. He had carved a blood-soaked path through a world of bone-deep greed and open plunder. Though he was a demon covered in blood, he would always burn incense and pray to Buddha with utmost sincerity. Afterward, he moved his operations to the United States, allowing the old fogies back home to finally breathe a sigh of relief.
And this time, the true trepidation was about to begin again.
The soft hair poked against He Yunqi’s chest, feeling itchy and tender. His body grew increasingly hot, and the youth could not help but lean toward his cold skin. He Yunqi was not an immortal; naturally, he had certain reactions.
Tsk, quite pitiful.
He Yunqi slowly turned his head, the aura around him sharp and arrogant.
Xie Jun and Xu Jichuan were both sensible men and immediately understood the meaning.
A moment later, people from outside brought in several sheets of paper.
Zhao Pengtai gripped the pages tightly, his hands trembling slightly. As he looked at the words on the contract, his hands could not stop shaking. It was true; due to loopholes in his family business, he had tried every means to compensate by winning over some anxious old men from the He family to tamper with the contracts. Now, not only did he have to vomit back the principal and interest, but he also had to add an additional twenty percent on top of the original base.
Zhao Pengtai’s face turned shades of blue and white. He gritted his teeth, his expression becoming somewhat distorted as he suppressed the erupting fire in his throat.
“Seventh Master, is this not a bit much? We are all in the same circle; leave some grace so we can look out for each other in the future. How about this? I will give Gu He to you as an apology.”
He praised Gu He incessantly, like he was desperately promoting a piece of merchandise in order to save his own skin.
His true, ugly nature was fully revealed, making one want to vomit.
