- Chapter 5 - Forcible Seizure
Gu He had bruises at the corners of his eyes and dark red scabs on his lips as he met a pair of indignant, pale blue eyes that looked like translucent glass beads.
The man before him possessed the unique eye color and high bridge of a Westerner, yet he also had the deep features of an Easterner. Dressed in a black shirt, he exuded a stern, noble aura that felt both powerful and mysterious. He appeared cold and profound, wearing a string of Buddhist prayer beads on his wrist that seemed strikingly out of place.
Gu He had grown up learning how to read people’s expressions. Although he did not fully understand the current situation, he knew the wisest move was to lower his posture and follow the others in calling him Seventh Master. His gaze flickered toward the sandalwood beads on the man’s wrist.
Those eyes were like a whirlpool, threatening to swallow him whole. Was it him?
Xie Jun clearly recognized Gu He as well. Was this not the handsome young man he had encountered earlier today? He immediately pulled out his phone and urged his contacts to send over the information he had requested. What was taking them so long? Were they busy digging graves or doing field research?
The reply from the other side was concise: “Clean.”
Good. Xie Jun now knew where he stood.
Xu Jichuan also felt a jolt of alarm. The negotiations upstairs had already been incredibly oppressive. Then, someone informed him of a disturbance on the seventh floor. He rushed down, suppressed anger simmering, wanting to see which sightless fool was causing trouble.
How did Seventh Master end up getting involved in this mess? He shot a look at Xie Jun, silently asking what on earth was going on.
Xie Jun rolled his eyes in response. It was Xu Jichuan’s club; how was he supposed to know?
However, looking at Zhao Pengtai’s face now, it was somewhat comical. It seemed this young man was not one to be trifled with.
Xu Jichuan immediately cleared the clutter from the black leather sofa for He Yunqi and sprayed it with disinfectant. “Seventh Master, please have a seat.”
The man addressed as Seventh Master kept his eyes half-squinted, and his expression was unreadable.
Everyone present was suddenly on high alert. It was impossible to tell if this was a coincidence or intentional, as He Yunqi had always acted according to his own whims.
Gu He noticed that the man wore white gloves, suggesting he was an extreme germaphobe. Yet, the man used his hands to grip Gu He’s chin directly. Gu He winced in pain as he was forced to look up into He Yunqi’s eyes. The pressure radiating from this man was overwhelming.
In that instant, Gu He felt his body suddenly grow hot, as if ants were scratching at his heart. A fire seemed to scorch his skin from the inside out, forcing layers of fine sweat from his pores.
He had been careless.
Zhao Pengtai was simply fueled by alcohol and could not swallow his pride. Why did He Yunqi have to cut off his market the moment he returned? The agreements he had previously signed with those old fogies of the He family were now all void. He had paid three times the price for the most prime real estate only to lose everything. The stock market had been crashing for two weeks. If this continued, the Zhao family would soon face bankruptcy.
Those old, backstabbing wastes! He should never have relied on them.
“Seventh Master,” Zhao Pengtai said, though he still had to force a smile.
Xu Jichuan sneered, feeling utterly disgusted by Zhao Pengtai’s fawning act. The old fox was cunning; he pretended to cooperate while secretly trying to win over the He family elders. Xu Jichuan had disliked him for a long time.
Seventh Master choosing this man as his first target upon his return was truly wonderful.
Zhao Pengtai glanced at Gu He and said through gritted teeth, “Come here. Do not offend Seventh Master’s eyes.”
He Yunqi’s gaze remained unchanged, but a slight curve appeared at the corner of his mouth. His gloved hand reached out to ruffle Gu He’s hair. He had wanted to do this from the moment he first saw him. As expected, it was very soft.
This ambiguous gesture made Gu He feel as though even his hair was burning. He Yunqi looked up at Zhao Pengtai but directed his question to Gu He. “Do you want to go over there?”
His voice was low and slow, carrying an aggressive tone that inspired fear in those who heard it.
“Gu He.” Zhao Pengtai sounded as if he wanted to crush the name between his teeth, his narrow eyes staring at the boy with dark malice.
No one around dared to make a sound. The name He Yunqi was enough to strike terror into the hearts of everyone in their circles. They stood on the sidelines, not daring to move, as if the very air had been frozen solid.
Xu Jichuan’s heart skipped a beat. What kind of drama was this? Was he actually witnessing a scene of forcible seizure?
