- Chapter 23 - What Are You Expecting?
“Is there anything else you want to say?” He Yunqi pulled out a tissue, intending to wipe away the remaining crumbs from the corner of Gu He’s mouth.
However, Gu He was faster, using the back of his hand to wipe his mouth.
“I have finished eating. Thank you,” Gu He said dryly.
He wiped his mouth with his hand just like that? Was the little dirty fox in such a hurry?
Only then did Gu He remember that this man seemed to have a germaphobia. He immediately picked up a wet towel nearby and wiped the back of his hand clean.
In truth, Gu He was not good at small talk and easily brought conversations to a dead end. Right now, he simply said, “I can go back to school now, Seventh Lord.”
He Yunqi’s eyelid flickered. The comfortable atmosphere vanished instantly before it could even reach its peak.
“The only thing I do not like is that you still use a formal title with me.”
Gu He was at a loss for words. If not Seventh Lord, what should he call him?
“Mr. He.”
That seemed even more formal.
He Yunqi watched the cute reaction of Gu He’s hands tightening unnaturally. He leaned closer to Gu He’s face and chuckled. Catching a faint, sweet scent from the youth, He Yunqi sniffed at his neck as if addicted. Gu He went stiff and did not dare to move.
“Fine. I will send you back to school.”
He Yunqi then glanced at Gu He’s bandaged right hand. “Send me a message when your classes end tonight. Have Xie Jun help you pack any important items in advance. You are not allowed to stay at the dormitory during this period.”
“…”
Gu He knew things would not be that simple. He could only compromise until this person grew tired of him.
Because Gu He had a fracture, He Yunqi did not trouble him. When he first offered to help Gu He bathe, Gu He had slammed the door shut and locked him out.
After not seeing him for a few days, the little fox’s temper remained as fiery as ever.
He Yunqi could only instruct the staff not to let the plaster get wet, otherwise their wages would be docked.
This wage was actually a strategy He Yunqi used to train the fox cub, a method that Gu He could easily accept.
Specifically, if Gu He attended on time and simply stayed overnight, he would receive a basic salary of four thousand. The condition was that he had to give up his other part time jobs. This was much more cost effective than his other work.
In the bathroom, as he ran the water for his bath, Gu He cursed the evils of capitalism.
“Seventh Lord, the information on that scumbag has come out.” Although Xie Jun did not want to ruin He Yunqi’s current mood, this was a specifically assigned task, so he braved the situation and knocked on the door.
He Yunqi leafed through the documents briefly. There was no name, only a code name. The column read “027.”
Gu He, how interesting.
The young Gu He had not changed much from his current appearance. His cheeks were sunken, his face was a sickly grey, and he was pitifully thin. His bone structure was prominent and unyielding. The only change was in those amber eyes, which looked shy as they gazed forward seriously and quietly. With his pitch black hair, his bright eyes resembled those of a docile deer.
There was a sharpness in He Yunqi’s light blue pupils. His fingers tapped rhythmically on the desk, his blue veins pulsing with the movement.
A sense of weight filled the silent air, as if waiting for his verdict.
“Tell Mr. Qiu that I can meet with him. Let him arrange a secluded location.”
Actually, negotiations regarding the underground transportation lines in Thailand were progressing slowly. A businessman prioritizes maximizing profit, and the other side was eager to partner with a major player, having sent invitations more than once.
“You are going in person?” Xie Jun was somewhat surprised. After all, such petty matters were usually beneath them. These affairs were typically handled by subordinates. For a small fry of that level to want to see Seventh Lord was practically a dream.
“Very well.” After saying this, Xie Jun hesitated. “Actually, this kind of thing could be handled by the people below. You do not need to go yourself.”
“I will arrange it immediately.”
Xie Jun had handed the materials to He Yunqi as soon as he received them. He Yunqi had not looked at them yet. Such an abnormality was likely due to the issue with that Uncle Ding.
He Yunqi was always comfortable in overseas markets. However, he had never encountered this kind of troubled relationship within the mainland. To be able to do business so smoothly meant the waters were quite deep.
In his heart, Xie Jun knew that He Yunqi was not a promiscuous player. He put on an act of being a jaded playboy primarily to deceive others. Xie Jun had managed his previous affairs, but this time, he could feel a clear difference. Although love at first sight was a cliché, this seemed to happen naturally without any sense of contradiction.
When Gu He came out after his bath, he happened to see He Yunqi hanging up the phone. “There is some business at the company. I am leaving first. Xie Jun will take you to school.”
He should have left long ago.
Gu He nodded and replied, “Alright.”
The evening clouds were dyed orange and red, adding a touch of late autumn romance.
That day, when Gu He returned, he heard the snarling of a fierce animal.
His cast had been removed today. When he tried to carry his books himself, he was firmly refused. A bodyguard followed him inside, carrying several of his professional books.
The bodyguards who used to hide in the shadows to look after him now appeared openly by his side. Although he knew this was He Yunqi’s intention, it was far too exaggerated. This was not the treatment of a young master. Instead, it made him look like a giant baby. At most, he allowed them to pick him up at the school gate, but they had to avoid the crowds, otherwise he would stay at the dormitory.
Having no choice, Xie Jun could only agree after learning this.
Gu He noticed an iron cage had been added to the lawn in the courtyard. Locked inside was a leopard that was white but speckled with small black spots. It was not very large. Its eyes were deeply set and emitted a sharp gaze, with light blue pupils as clear as crystal glass.
Its teeth were very sharp, and its long tail moved up and down. Its front legs retracted while its back legs moved forward, its body arching like a spring, ready to fight its prey at any moment.
“Young Master Gu.”
The servants quickly closed the cage again to prevent the animal from escaping and frightening Gu He.
Gu He frowned. “Hunting wild animals is against the law.”
“No, no, you misunderstand.” They summarized the main points. “This is a jaguar, captive bred with a natural genetic defect. Seventh Lord rescued it while he was in Thailand.”
In reality, they had found this little creature when they raided Uncle Ding’s nest. There were many cages in a small room, and this little guy had its neck and limbs secured by four or five iron chains. Its cage was cleaner than the others, likely because a good buyer had been found and it was being cleaned for delivery.
As it turned out, they had run into him.
Initially, they planned to let the Animal Management Bureau handle everything. However, the white jaguar’s dying claws had hooked onto He Yunqi’s trouser leg. It only had one amber eye, which at first glance, looked very much like a certain person.
So, they brought the leopard back.
Since it was a wild animal, it immediately regained its alertness once its strength returned. To prevent it from hurting anyone, Seventh Lord ordered it to be kept in the back garden and brought in a trainer. However, it was too vigilant, and they had not managed to get it out despite their efforts. Instead, the cage had been bent by its impact, and there were dried brown bloodstains on its claws.
Gu He walked over. They were about to stop him when they noticed the little leopard had become a bit quieter.
A leopard is an animal very sensitive to scents and precise in its prediction of danger.
However, it retracted its claws for Gu He and breathed heavily.
