- Chapter 21 - The Old Rogue
“Yes.”
If not for the consideration that Gu He was present, He Yunqi likely would have taken action personally and drawn blood. In his eyes, a lapse in duty was synonymous with being a useless waste. Even if they were lucky enough to be saved by Gu He, the punishment would not be light.
Xie Jun could not help but give He Yunqi a mental thumbs-up. Following the Seventh Master’s cunning patterns, even at a time like this, he did not forget to make a precisely calculated move; the “Sister-in-law” was definitely going to be completely under his thumb. Regarding the dereliction of duty, Xie Jun would take the initiative to accept punishment even without He Yunqi’s instructions.
“Get out.”
In a nimble instant, the area became entirely peaceful.
Having dealt with that group, it was now Gu He’s turn.
Gu He was an intelligent person with good situational awareness. He silently began placing his scattered textbooks back into his backpack.
He Yunqi watched him unhurriedly. Just as Gu He slung the bag over his shoulder, the man spoke calmly. “Did I say you could leave?”
Gu He’s movements came to a sudden halt. He did not understand what the man meant.
He Yunqi’s eyes flickered for a split second before returning to a deep, unfathomable dark blue. Speaking with the tone of a superior, he reached out to pinch Gu He’s chin, forcing an answer with cold, stiff interrogation.
“Why did you not answer when I called?”
“I did not save your number.” Feeling the oppressive atmosphere, Gu He thought for a moment and added, “I do not answer numbers I do not recognize.”
Do not recognize? Fine.
Xu Jijuan’s heart skipped a beat, and he quickly lowered his head, pretending not to see anything.
Xie Jun pinched the flesh of his thigh, trying desperately to keep the corners of his mouth from curling upward. My goodness, his “Sister-in-law” was such a straight-shooter; it was simply too adorable!
“What is your WeChat?”
“I do not have one.”
“QQ?”
“I do not have that either.”
“Hand over your phone.” He Yunqi was clearly losing patience, his voice turning considerably colder. “Nothing? How are college students these days so good at fooling people?”
Gu He obediently handed over a cracked, brandless domestic “brick” phone. It had several new cracks, likely from the fight earlier. He felt a pang of regret; it was a new screen he had only recently replaced. It looked like he would have to spend 180 again to fix it.
He Yunqi’s hand paused, and his eye twitched. Was his little fox a “little antique” who lived outside of modern society?
What era was this? How were these hammer-like knock-off phones still in production? The least conspicuous cufflinks he owned were worth more than this thing.
“Hahahaha, mmph!” Xu Jijuan reacted quickly and covered Xie Jun’s mouth.
He Yunqi’s sharp brows furrowed as he looked unpleasantly at Xie Jun. “Is this how you take care of people for me?” Anyone would think the boy was suffering from extreme poverty.
“Sorry, Seventh Master. Brother Xie’s dopamine secretion has been abnormal lately.”
What kind of endocrine abnormality? Xie Jun glared at Xu Jijuan. He should not think he could use professional terms to bluff just because he had studied for two more years.
Xu Jijuan looked away, pretending not to notice.
Xie Jun felt truly wronged! It was not that he was inattentive; it was simply that there was never an opportunity to show kindness. The “Sister-in-law” truly loved studying too much!
In the past, He Yunqi’s little flings were like spider spirits, clinging and persistent until they caused a headache, and could be easily dismissed with money. This one was not in the same league at all; Xie Jun was also very lost.
Noticing that the boy was wearing a pair of jeans washed out to a pale white and a plain white shirt, He Yunqi’s frown deepened.
It was not that Gu He had nothing else to wear; he was simply casual. He did not pursue fashion and did not like dressing up; if it was wearable, it was fine.
An outsider would think He Yunqi was mistreating him, that while following him, he had no car, no house, and could not even afford to buy a decent phone. He looked incredibly stingy.
He Yunqi softened his overbearing gaze and said plainly, “Go get a new phone.”
“On it!” Xie Jun grabbed Xu Jijuan by the collar and scurried out.
An untimely text message arrived on Xu Jijuan’s phone. His eyes went blank. “When did I run two red lights?”
He looked suspiciously at Xie Jun. The culprit pretended not to know anything, turning his head to admire the moon and whistling.
“Xie Jun, was it you!”
“Ah, Brother Chuan, what is it?”
“I am going to kill you!” Last time, Xie Jun had borrowed his car and caused trouble; that legal illiterate had actually reversed on the highway, forcing Xu Jijuan to retake his lessons. Now, he was being framed again.
“Oh, Brother Chuan, we are close, are we not?” Xie Jun said, trying to put an arm around his shoulder. “Ow, ow, ow! Easy on the hands! Careful, or I will tell your mother.”
Xu Jijuan pulled his ear and sneered. “My mother taught me to be kind, but she did not teach me to take your nonsense.”
“Fine, fine, Brother Chuan. I will treat you to dinner; you pick the place.”
At this, Xu Jijuan did not hold back. He reached out his hand. “Card.”
“Here, here.” Knowing he was in the wrong, Xie Jun offered it with both hands, showing total sincerity. Later, he would shed tears of regret for his impulsiveness.
“Seventh Master.” Xie Jun brought the latest model of phone, finally completing the task.
He Yunqi took it.
Gu He realized belatedly that He Yunqi was on his blocked list, and he lowered his head guiltily.
He Yunqi looked at the person standing there and sighed. “Come here.”
Gu He stared at his toes, shuffling forward inch by inch. The next second, he fell into a warm embrace. His naturally soft body instantly turned stiff, not daring to move.
He Yunqi laughed softly. “How have you not adapted yet? It seems I will have to hold you more often in the future.”
A broad palm rested on his waist and slipped beneath the hem of his shirt. Gu He’s sensitive skin remembered He Yunqi’s temperature and strength; the smooth, slightly hot touch still made his mind wander.
Gu He’s eyes flickered. This man was far too unpredictable.
The overly intimate contact seemed to send a tingling sensation straight to his heart. He instinctively wanted to escape, but he was held firmly by the waist. Always controlled by the man’s rhythm, he was afraid everything would spiral out of control.
He Yunqi was in a great mood seeing Gu He’s helpless state, clearly unable to handle it yet pretending to be composed. He then moved to kiss Gu He’s collarbone with passion.
After admiring the boy’s flushed cheeks for a while, He Yunqi unboxed the new phone. He skillfully swiped the screen to record Gu He’s fingerprint, not forgetting to record one for himself as well. Then, he pulled up the front camera and took a photo of Gu He sitting stiffly in his lap.
Gu He turned his head away, so He Yunqi’s face was fully visible with a smile, while Gu He showed only his fluffy head and pink ear tips. Seen this way, it had the look of a “little wife” aesthetic. Not bad. He set it as the wallpaper with a fluid motion.
“You are not allowed to change the wallpaper, do you hear me?”
“…”
Gu He had never seen such a domineering and thick-skinned person.
Then, He Yunqi shamelessly changed his own contact’s name to “Husband.” Gu He, after over twenty years of life, felt truly embarrassed. He quietly changed it back to “Old Rogue.”
“If you dare to delete me or block me, your school will catch fire tomorrow.”
“…”
Even if the school explodes, it has nothing to do with me.
“Press this pulsing green button to answer a call, and this one to send a text. If you are used to the nine-key layout, it can be adjusted.”
Gu He really wanted to say that he used a “senior phone” because he was poor, not because he was mentally challenged.
Later, He Yunqi discovered that the little fox did know how to use the internet. After browsing, he even knew how to clear the history. He was very crafty, one could tell Xie Jun had taught him!
