After Falling for the Handsome CEO - Chapter 43
Chapter 43: Who is the Patient’s Family?
Yan Yu had long been accustomed to a life of high status; he never had to bow his head to others, nor did he ever humbly apologize or beg for forgiveness. To him, such actions were profoundly humiliating.
Naturally, he projected his own logic onto others, believing that as long as he was willing to lower himself enough to apologize, Shen Jin would easily forgive him…
He failed to realize that for some people, certain wounds are etched so deeply into the soul that they become unforgettable.
There are injuries that a simple “I’m sorry” can never heal, and “it’s okay” can never be the answer. This was a truth Yan Yu would only begin to understand much later, during countless lonely nights in a cold, empty house, where he would finally regret the many things he shouldn’t have done…
Watching Yan Yu’s pale face and disheveled appearance, Xie Li was gnashing his teeth with resentment toward Shen Jin. Yet, on the surface, he forced a smile, patted Yan Yu’s shoulder, and comforted him: “It’s okay, A-Yu. Don’t worry, everything will be fine…”
Initially, when Xie Li saw Shen Jin’s head slam against the marble, he was terrified that someone might actually die. But now that he suspected it might not be fatal, he couldn’t help but secretly pray that the accident would leave Shen Jin with some sort of permanent complication…
At the very least, it had to be enough to make Yan Yu stay away from him for good.
Just then, the doors to the operating room swung open. A doctor rushed out and shouted to the group, “Where is the patient’s family? Who is the family member here?”
Yan Yu and Bai Yujin answered in unison: “I am!!”
In the heat of the moment, the doctor didn’t bother to argue. He spoke rapidly: “The patient has a severe brain injury and has lost too much blood. We need a transfusion immediately. Who is the relative? Do you have the same blood type? Or do you know anyone else who might?”
Yan Yu and Bai Yujin glanced at each other. If it were a common blood type, a large hospital’s blood bank would have plenty. For a doctor to come out specifically to ask, it meant it was no ordinary blood type.
“He has a sister!” Yan Yu’s speech was rapid and filled with trepidation. He asked urgently, “Is it… is it Rh-negative?”
The doctor looked regretful. “I’m afraid not. The patient has Rhnull blood—a type even rarer than ‘Golden Blood’ (Rh-negative). The blood bank has none. Please contact his family immediately!”
The faces of Yan Yu and Bai Yujin turned ghostly pale as they stared at each other in shock.
They never imagined that the ultra-rare Rhnull blood type would be found in Shen Jin.
Rhnull is known as the “Universal Blood”; it can be given to anyone in an emergency. However, the tragic downside is that a person with Rhnull blood can only receive Rhnull blood.
The two didn’t dare delay and immediately rushed to Shen Lian’s ward.
The girl still had no idea what had happened to her brother. Bai Yujin had managed to fool her a few days ago, and after Shen Jin woke up the first time, he had called her and made up an excuse to keep her from worrying.
So, when she saw the two men burst into her room, she was startled. “What happened?”
Yan Yu pushed past Bai Yujin and demanded, “Are you… are you Rhnull blood type?”
Shen Lian was bewildered and blinked her eyes. “Huh? What… what’s wrong?”
Yan Yu ignored her confusion and shouted to the doctor following them, “Doctor, get over here! Test her blood!”
The medical staff didn’t dare slight powerful figures like Yan Yu or Bai Yujin. With Shen Lian’s consent, they performed an immediate blood test. Moments later, the results were in.
The doctor in the white coat looked grim. His voice was low as he said, “I’m very sorry. She is not Rhnull, and their blood compatibility is less than fifty percent.”
Yan Yu’s pupils contracted, and his heart sank. He licked his dry lips and stammered, “But… but isn’t Shen Lian… his sister?”
The doctor adjusted his glasses. “I’m sorry, but these two share no biological relationship.”
Bai Yujin was stunned. “What?”
Now was not the time to dwell on that discovery. The doctor said urgently, “The situation is critical. If we cannot find an Rhnull donor, the outlook is very grim. President Bai, President Yan—you are both men of influence. If you truly wish to save him, please use your connections and power to broadcast this information across the country immediately. Otherwise…”
Yan Yu’s breath hitched. His Adam’s apple bobbed as his voice trembled: “Otherwise… what?”
The doctor folded his hands together, looking very solemn. He addressed the two anxious men with gravity: “You must find a way to locate someone in this country with Rhnull blood who is willing to donate, and do it quickly. Otherwise, we can only say we are sorry…”
