Chapter 42: Shen Jin Has the Best Temper, He Will Forgive Him
Unfortunately, no matter how loudly he screamed now, the person injured because of him could no longer hear. He had fallen into a deep, prolonged unconsciousness.
After Yan Yu finished his roar, he felt as if the blood throughout his body had frozen, only to then surge upward, causing a wave of dizziness. He staggered a few steps, nearly collapsing forward.
Xie Li, who had been trying his best to stay calm while frantically thinking of a solution, was startled. He quickly reached out to support Yan Yu’s faltering body. “A-Yu!”
Seeing Yan Yu’s terrible complexion and bloodshot eyes—a state that could only be described as abysmal—Xie Li feared he might suddenly faint. He helped him back a few steps, wanting him to sit down and calm down, while not forgetting to say: “It’s okay, it’s okay. It was just an accident. A-Yu, you need to calm down first.”
Even Xie Li, who had intentionally pushed Shen Jin out just moments ago, hadn’t expected such a catastrophic accident. He had originally just been disgruntled, feeling that Shen Jin was stealing what belonged to him and wanting to teach him a lesson. How could he have known such an accident would occur?
One could only say that Shen Jin had poor luck… born with a lowly life, destined to suffer. Rolling in the mud with no chance of rising, he had known nothing but hardship and pain, with the world never showing him an ounce of kindness.
Therefore, even if he, Xie Li, had “accidentally” pushed him, he couldn’t be blamed…
“Let go of me!” Yan Yu violently shook off Xie Li’s hand. He didn’t understand what was happening to him; he only knew that whenever the image of Shen Jin collapsing flashed in his mind, his heart felt as if it were bleeding out. He spoke incoherently: “Shen Jin, Shen Jin… I—I have to go see him!”
Xie Li was sent staggering back several steps by the force of the shove. A flicker of jealousy and coldness crossed his beautiful face as he watched Yan Yu’s trembling figure run toward the operating room.
“Damn it…” Xie Li cursed under his breath, then quickly chased after Yan Yu, his voice filled with feigned concern. “Shen… he’s tough, he’ll be fine. Don’t worry too much!”
He simply couldn’t understand. Aside from being young and good-looking, what other merits did that Shen Jin have?
The man looked impoverished, rustic, and was incredibly dim-witted… He didn’t know why both Bai Yujin and Yan Yu would lose their minds over such a fool.
Were they blind…?
At this moment, Yan Yu couldn’t hear a word he said. He pushed Xie Li away again and stumbled toward the operating room. His mind was entirely consumed by the image of Shen Jin falling, filling him with an underlying sense of terror…
Xie Li clicked his tongue. He was about to give chase again when his wrist was grabbed from behind. “A-Li!”
Upon hearing this voice, Xie Li became impatient. He shook his hand off and turned to look at Xu Cheng’s shifting expression. Restraining his temper, he asked, “What are you doing here?”
“A-Li, do you have any idea what you just did! No matter how much you hate him, how could you—!” Xu Cheng looked at him with indignation. “What if he dies!”
Xie Li’s face turned pale instantly, and his eyes went cold. He lowered his voice, questioning in a tone only the two of them could hear: “What nonsense are you talking about?”
“I saw everything! A-Li, you weren’t like this before!” Xu Cheng took a deep breath. “He’s just an innocent, pitiful person. Why did you have to—”
“Xu Cheng!”
Xie Li coldly cut him off. With a darkened face, he told him word for word: “Don’t forget that we are just simple friends. Don’t lecture me; you aren’t anyone to me. Furthermore, regarding what just happened…”
Xie Li paused, narrowed his eyes, leaned into Xu Cheng’s ear, and suddenly gave a soft, warm smile. “What just happened was merely an accident. Why are you getting so worked up over nothing?”
Xu Cheng had seen him push Shen Jin, yet he hadn’t expected Xie Li to act as if nothing had happened. He found the tone unbelievable. “What did you say?”
Xie Li sneered and stepped back, his expression calm with a slight upward curve of his lips. “The one whose strike hit him… wasn’t me. And the marble he hit when he fell is just a part of the hospital’s decor; I didn’t put it there. Yet you’re putting all the blame on me?”
Xie Li smiled gracefully and said with a hint of helplessness, “Xu Cheng, aren’t you being a bit too unreasonable?”
Xu Cheng stared at him in a daze, unable to imagine how someone could say such words. He was fuming, teeth clenched as he pointed at Xie Li’s face: “You… you!”
“Is this really necessary?” Xie Li gently patted his hand away and smiled elegantly. “Only a fool tries to stand up for others. A-Cheng, calm down.”
Xu Cheng said in exasperation, “I’m just worried about you! I care about you! Don’t you understand!”
Xie Li gave a non-committal smile. “Fine, I have things to do. I won’t stay with you.”
He immediately hurried off in Yan Yu’s direction, leaving Xu Cheng alone. Xu Cheng smiled despondently and dejectedly lit a cigarette.
…
The lights of the operating room remained on, appearing piercingly bright.
When Yan Yu arrived, he saw Bai Yujin pacing anxiously outside the door, his face dark and extremely grim, his fists tightly clenched.
Yan Yu rushed over, his face pale and his voice stuttering: “How—how is he!”
The moment Bai Yujin saw him, his eyes turned red with rage. He grabbed Yan Yu by the collar and slammed a fist into his face, hissing through gritted teeth, “Yan Yu!! You actually have the nerve to ask! Are you satisfied now?! What are you still doing here? Get the hell out!!”
Yan Yu took the full-force punch without dodging or resisting. He only stumbled back a few steps, looking disheveled. His eyes were still bloodshot but filled with a dazed confusion as he said stiffly, “I—I didn’t mean to… I…”
He truly hadn’t expected things to turn out this way. He didn’t want to see him hurt like this…
Bai Yujin, in a fit of rage and feeling that Shen Jin’s suffering was utterly undeserved, struck him again. “You didn’t mean to! So do you think you’re innocent and haven’t done anything wrong?!”
Yan Yu was left speechless by the blow. With a pale face, he staggered back several steps, only managing to stay upright when he was caught by the arriving Xie Li. He remained in a daze, whispering softly to himself: “Shen Jin…”
If… if something really happened to Shen Jin…
“No, no, he’ll be fine!”
Yan Yu told himself over and over in his heart that Shen Jin would be okay. When he woke up, he would apologize to him…
Shen Jin has the best temper… he will forgive him…
