Chapter 44: It’s Okay, Shen Jin Has Bai Yujin to Accompany Him
Yan Yu knew better than anyone how difficult Rhnull blood was to find. Once, an accident victim needing a transfusion made national headlines specifically because they required an Rhnull donor.
That person was Madam Rong of the capital.
The Rong family had been officials for generations; they were a massive, deeply rooted clan with profound influence. They controlled major economic arteries, and their corporate empire spanned city after city. They held supreme status—the very definition of the elite.
Even someone like Yan Yu would not lightly make an enemy of them.
And how could such a woman deign to donate blood for a stranger? She had everything; she lacked nothing. There was nothing Shen Jin or Yan Yu could offer that would serve as an equal exchange for her.
So, even knowing Madam Rong was Rhnull, approaching her seemed impossible.
Yan Yu was in a daze. He hadn’t expected things to spiral to this point. With a pale face, he grabbed Bai Yujin’s arm. “Back then… who was the person who donated blood to Madam Rong?!”
Before Bai Yujin could answer, he let go, fumbled for his phone, and called his assistant. His voice shook uncontrollably. “Immediately find the location of the person who donated blood to Madam Rong years ago! Agree to any of their demands! Get the blood and have it delivered to the City First Hospital at top speed!”
Yan Yu hung up, his heart pounding against his ribs. His palms were slick with cold sweat, and his legs felt so weak he had to lean against the wall to remain standing.
How did it suddenly come to this…
Just a short while ago, he had pinned that man to the bed, ruthlessly humiliating him. How could it have escalated to a life-and-death crisis so quickly?
Bai Yujin was in no better state, but he forced himself to stay grounded. “I… I’ve met Madam Rong a few times. I’ll try to contact her and see if I can get any information.”
There was no time to lose. After calming himself, he stepped aside and pulled out his phone. His fingers trembled as he searched his contacts, making call after call until he finally reached Madam Rong’s personal line.
The call connected, and the lazy, ethereal voice of a mature woman came through. It was light and airy, sounding as if it came from a great distance. “Hello?”
“Madam Rong, hello. I apologize for the intrusion.” Bai Yujin offered a brief greeting. He knew Madam Rong was in poor health and rarely saw anyone; she was often shrouded in a quiet melancholy.
Mr. Rong loved his wife to his very core. For years, he had kept her in a peaceful environment, shielding her from outside disturbances, leaving her in a state of near-total seclusion.
Bai Yujin didn’t dare waste precious time. He got straight to the point, explaining the situation and his goal, hoping for her help.
After a long silence, the woman on the other end said nonchalantly, “Another Rhnull blood type…”
Her ethereal voice drifted through the line. “You know my health hasn’t been good these past few years. Otherwise, helping with my own blood wouldn’t be an issue.”
Bai Yujin quickly replied with formal politeness, “Your kindness is enough, Madam Rong. Your health is the priority.”
Knowing his time was tight, the woman was brief. “I will have my people send the information to you. I hope it helps.”
Her team was efficient. Shortly after hanging up, Bai Yujin received a comprehensive set of data. But before he could even scan it, his phone rang again.
It was Madam Rong. “I’ve already made the arrangements. The donor has agreed and will arrive as soon as possible. I hope this helps you.”
Bai Yujin froze, doubting his own ears. It wasn’t until his phone chimed with confirmation messages that he snapped out of it, ecstatic. “Thank you, Madam Rong! Thank you so much!”
“It’s a small matter,” she replied. “It’s good to be able to help someone.”
Bai Yujin let out a long, heavy breath, finally feeling some sense of calm. He immediately called his assistant to arrange for the pickup.
Yan Yu, however, was in a wretched state. Proud as he was, he realized that Bai Yujin had handled everything. Aside from causing Shen Jin harm, he had been unable to do anything to help him…
He sat down dejectedly, rubbing his pale face. He exhaled and stared at the polished floor in silence.
Watching the entire scene, Xie Li ground his teeth. The jealousy in his eyes intensified, and a surge of malice rose in his chest.
He already had a weak heart. Fueled by anger and recent lack of sleep, his vision suddenly went black. He stumbled, gasping for air, his face turning a terrifying shade of white.
Yan Yu was startled by the reaction. “A-Li!”
Initially, Xie Li truly felt unwell, but seeing Yan Yu’s reaction, he seized the opportunity. He began to gasp for air, his body swaying. “A-Yu… I… I feel so sick…”
“A-Li!” Yan Yu rushed from his chair to catch the weakening man before he fell. “Are you okay? What’s happening!”
Even Bai Yujin couldn’t help but look over. Though he knew Young Master Xie was sickly, the timing of this relapse seemed critical.
Once in Yan Yu’s arms, Xie Li became even more “fragile.” He leaned into Yan Yu’s chest, shaking his head weakly and forcing a faint smile. “I don’t know… maybe I haven’t been… resting well lately…”
Bai Yujin frowned and couldn’t help but say, “If it’s a relapse, you should take him for a check-up immediately.”
Xie Li narrowed his eyes slightly and winced in feigned pain, a feeble, bitter smile on his lips. “It’s an old problem… my vision is going dark…”
He didn’t believe that even in this state, Yan Yu would keep his attention on Shen Jin! They hadn’t even known each other long, whereas he had known Yan Yu since childhood…
Yan Yu hesitated. Shen Jin was still in the operating room, and the situation was grim. If he accompanied Xie Li…
Bai Yujin saw the hesitation in Yan Yu’s eyes and sneered inwardly. He said mockingly, “Take him then. I’ll stay here and wait for Shen Jin. You don’t need to worry!”
Yan Yu’s eyes dimmed. He bit his lip.
In his arms, Xie Li whimpered in pain, “A-Yu… it hurts…”
“A-Li!” Yan Yu’s face went pale. He scooped up the weak man, casting one last hesitant glance at the operating room door. The light was still on.
“It’s okay, it’s okay. You’ll be fine in a moment!” Feeling the person in his arms struggle for breath, Yan Yu hurriedly carried him away—
He thought to himself: It’s okay. Shen Jin has Bai Yujin to accompany him. He’s not alone…
