- Chapter 7 - He Is Getting Married
Gu Huai let out a few cold laughs, his tone carryng a hint of impatience. “What is the matter? Is this estate registered in your name now? Why can I not come back?”
Faced with this counter-question, the person who had originally been so aggressive instantly withered. But before Gu Huai could walk out, the person wailed at the top of his lungs, “Dad! Gu Huai is back!”
Gu Huai nearly lost his footing and had a close encounter with the floor. Why was the old man home as well? He had absolutely no desire to see anyone in this family, so he continued to pretend he heard nothing and turned to leave.
“Gu Huai, stop right there.”
Hearing that voice, Gu Huai sighed inwardly, knowing he could not escape this time. Along with the command came the overwhelming pressure of a high ranking Alpha. The person who had first run into him began to turn pale, likely affected by Gu Chong’s powerful pheromones.
For Gu Huai, however, this meant nothing at all because he was a Beta and was not affected by pheromones. Gu Chong had never cared much for him, and now it seemed he had even forgotten his son’s secondary gender.
Gu Huai’s gaze gradually turned cold. He did not even bother to curl his lips into a smile, let alone speak. He had never had much to say to Gu Chong, whether in the past or now.
Gu Chong frowned slightly. “Gu Huai, you have certainly grown bold. Do you no longer even know basic etiquette when you see your father?”
Gu Huai raised his head, wearing an indifferent expression as he intentionally dragged out his words. “Yes.”
Hearing these words from his unfilial son, and remembering the troublesome mess Gu Huai had caused at the Gu family banquet not long ago, Gu Chong’s anger flared. The pressure of his pheromones intensified.
Gu Huai said nonchalantly, “Pull back your pheromones. You would not want to see your precious darling son faint, would you?” As he spoke, he pointed at Gu Yi nearby, who was almost unable to breathe.
Only then did Gu Chong realize that his eldest son was a Beta and completely unaffected by the pheromone suppression. He furrowed his brows and silently retracted the aura of authority.
“Excuse me.”
Gu Huai ignored everyone’s stares and walked straight past Gu Chong. Gu Chong initially wanted to send someone to stop him, but on second thought, he knew Gu Huai did not respond well to force. Stopping him would likely be counterproductive. He lowered the hand he had raised halfway.
His subordinate seemed confused. “Sir, are we not going to stop the Eldest Young Master?”
Gu Chong’s eyes darkened, and he sneered. “I have frozen his bank cards. It will not be long before he comes back to bow his head and admit his mistakes. There is no need to keep blocking him.”
“You are wise, sir.”
Gu Huai called Xie Wenye to come and pick him up. His heart felt like a tangled mess of emotions. Even though he had known this would happen, he still felt a trace of bitterness. Gu Huai scolded himself silently a few times.
As soon as Xie Wenye received the call, he rushed over, fearing that Gu Huai might be ruthlessly set up by that old fox Gu Chong or locked in solitary confinement for another ten days or half a month. Seeing that Gu Huai was clearly in a bad mood, Xie Wenye spoke cautiously. “Did that old man say something terrible again?”
Gu Huai shook his head. Seeing him like this, Xie Wenye decided to let him calm down on his own. “Hey, I am not trying to nag, but did you not break ties with the Gu family? How did you dare to go back?”
Gu Huai kept his head low, his eyes filled with unreadable emotions. “I had business.” Xie Wenye sighed and did not push further.
With his thoughts drifting miles away, Gu Huai moved his fingers and sent a message to the person at the top of his WeChat list: “Brother Bo, let us meet at the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow at nine.”
Gu Huai always felt as if the person on the other side was constantly holding his phone, as he always replied the second a message was sent.
“Hm? Did you not say you did not have your household register?” “I did not realize baby was so impatient to marry me.”
Seeing those words, Gu Huai’s face instantly flushed, and the man’s expression involuntarily appeared in his mind. How was he supposed to reply to that? He chose to ignore it and replied to the first point. “I stole it.”
“So impressive. I will give you a reward when we meet tomorrow.”
Gu Huai looked at the message, and the corners of his mouth curled up slightly. After hesitating, he decided to explain what had happened over the past few days to Xie Wenye.
Halfway through the story, Xie Wenye slammed on the brakes. “Damn it, are you crazy, Gu Huai?”
Gu Huai lowered his eyes. “Perhaps this is a good path?”
Xie Wenye continued driving while grumbling. When they reached a shop, he said, “Get out.”
Gu Huai saw they were at that place again and frowned slightly. “Why come here?”
“Do not talk to me right now. I am afraid I will not be able to stop myself from hitting you.”
Gu Huai fell silent, knowing these events were indeed bizarre and hard to accept. But he had indeed done it.
“Oh, what wind blew these two distinguished guests here?” The tone was welcoming, but in Gu Huai’s ears, it sounded like the person was speaking through gritted teeth. “Gu Huai, do you actually have the nerve to come here?”
Such familiar words, Gu Huai thought expressionlessly. This was already the second time he had heard them today. He arched an eyebrow, pulled out a chair skillfully, and ordered from the nearby waiter. “I am not welcome?”
“The shop is closed. Please leave.”
Xie Wenye grabbed a can of beer. “Stop the nonsense. Even if you are closed, I am coming in.”
The man had a friendly smile on his face, but his eyes always made people feel a bit chilly. Xie Wenye put an arm around him. “I have something to tell you. This brat Gu Huai is getting married tomorrow.”
Gu Huai nearly spat out his drink. He had truly overestimated Xie Wenye’s discretion, thinking he would break the news gently. The man’s expression changed instantly, and his voice was full of shock. “What the hell?”
Xie Wenye looked at him several times. “You heard right. He is getting married.”
Xie Wenye watched as the man’s shocked expression faded, replaced by a much heavier look. “Let us talk in the private room.”
As soon as they entered the room, Gu Huai was pushed against the door. The man threw an angry punch toward him. Perhaps considering that he was getting married tomorrow and could not have his face ruined, the punch landed on the door instead.
Xie Wenye reacted quickly and pulled the two apart. “Brother Shen, let us talk properly. Do not fight.”
The man’s gaze grew sharp, and his words were tinged with coldness. “Which time have I talked properly and he actually listened?” He sneered. “If he did not have business tomorrow, I would definitely have a real fight with him.”
The man Xie Wenye called Brother Shen flexed his fingers and spoke to Gu Huai with an unkind tone. “What kind of stunt are you pulling this time?”
Gu Huai acted as if nothing was wrong. “It is nothing. I just signed a contract with someone. It is not a real marriage.”
Brother Shen sneered a few times. “It is a good thing you are a Beta. If you were an Omega, you would be eaten alive before you even had time to cry.”
Xie Wenye’s mouth twitched upon hearing this. Brother Shen, you do not know. Even though Gu Huai is not an Omega, he has already been eaten alive. And he delivered himself right to the door.
