After Breaking Up With The Wealthy Heiress - Chapter 11
Chapter 11
When Fang Yu arrived home, Fang Qin was still forcing herself to stay awake, lying in bed reading a web novel on her phone.
Like Fang Yu, she didn’t have many recreational activities. When she had free time, she would only read novels or watch TV dramas to relax her mind. This was her occasional way of escaping reality a brief respite from her hard life but it was all she could afford to do.
Hearing the door open, Fang Qin immediately put down her phone. Seeing Fang Yu appear at the door seconds later, she perked up and asked with a smile, “Why are you a bit later than expected, Xiao Yu?”
“The boss called us for a quick meeting, so it got delayed,” Fang Yu said with a helpless look.
Fang Qin got out of bed, suspecting nothing. “Then you rest first, or go take a shower. Mom will go make some late-night snacks for you; I guarantee you’ll be happy.”
“Thank you, Mom,” Fang Yu said with a smile.
Fang Qin shot her a mock glare and laughed. “Why so polite? I’m your mother.”
Fang Yu laughed along. The apartment was small; it only took a few steps to return to her bedroom and place her backpack on the desk. She pulled out her chair and sat down, staring out the window, her mind wandering.
Because her frequency of seeing Fang Qin was low, and because she hadn’t fully forgiven Tan Yunshu yet, her refusal of Tan Yunshu’s invitation to stay at the hotel wasn’t surprising. However, when Tan Yunshu dropped her off at the complex, she had pressed her against the car seat and kissed her for quite a while.
She had been kissed until her ears felt numb and her body lacked strength before Tan Yunshu finally let her go, satisfied. Even now, sitting at home, she hadn’t quite recovered.
At the thought of this, she frowned. She looked at Fang Qin busy in the kitchen, then leaned down to sniff her own clothes. There seemed to be a lingering scent of Tan Yunshu’s perfume.
A minute later, Fang Yu took her pajamas and headed into the bathroom. She couldn’t take that risk.
Fang Qin was making spicy crawfish. Their lives were difficult, but moments like this weren’t non-existent. After leaving the Tan residence that afternoon, thinking of her daughter’s hard work, she had gone straight to the market to pick out shrimp, waiting to treat her daughter to a comforting late-night meal.
When Fang Yu finished her shower, Fang Qin was just pouring the food into their only stainless steel basin. she beckoned to her, “Xiao Yu, come smell this—isn’t it fragrant?”
“I smelled it before I even got here,” Fang Yu walked over with a smile.
After finishing the snack and washing up, Fang Yu finally returned to her room. her phone had been charging on the nightstand untouched. picking it up now, she saw several WeChat messages. All of them were from Tan Yunshu.
This was somewhat rare for her.
xxx: Is Auntie Fang asleep? xxx: Why didn’t you reply to me? xxx: Are you thinking of me? xxx: See you tomorrow, Fang Yu. Goodnight.
Fang Yu felt a bit uneasy. On one hand, she felt Tan Yunshu was doing this out of a guilty conscience for her mistake; on the other hand, she felt Tan Yunshu was working very… hard to earn her forgiveness? Either way, it felt much better than the bitterness of the previous two days.
The window was open, the curtains swaying slightly. After a long exhale, Fang Yu replied to the messages one by one, adding at the end: I was just having a late-night snack.
What snack? Tan Yunshu hadn’t slept yet and replied instantly.
Crawfish.
xxx: Then I’ll have to taste Auntie Fang’s cooking next time. I haven’t tried her version of that dish yet.
Looking at these words, Fang Yu’s eyelids drooped. Every time Tan Yunshu mentioned Fang Qin, she used the title “Auntie Fang.” It seemed so common, yet it constantly reminded her of the inequality in their status.
Actually, their relationship hadn’t been like this at the start.
The first time Tan Yunshu sent her home, Fang Yu noticed Tan Yunshu’s back was soaked from the rain. She invited her upstairs to change clothes. She regretted it the moment she said it her home was truly tiny, and who was Tan Yunshu?
“Okay,” was Tan Yunshu’s reply at the time, leaving her stunned.
Tan Yunshu followed her upstairs and changed into Fang Yu’s pajamas while Fang Yu used a hairdryer to dry her wet clothes. In the small room, there was only the sound of the dryer mixed with the rain outside. Fang Yu didn’t dare look at Tan Yunshu much, while Tan Yunshu’s gaze followed her constantly. It wasn’t until the clothes were dry that Tan Yunshu finally spoke.
“I know you are Auntie Fang’s daughter.”
Fang Yu stared at her blankly, took a moment to process, and nodded. “Yes.”
Tan Yunshu took the dried clothes, showing no airs of a “young miss,” and asked with a smile, “But, can I sleep here for a bit, Fang Yu? I’m a little sleepy.”
“You can…” Fang Yu answered in a daze.
“Thank you.”
The clothes were put back on the chair, and Tan Yunshu fell asleep on the small 1.5-meter bed, her breathing steady. Later, this scene repeated several times. Tan Yunshu would arrive exhausted and treat this place as her sanctuary for sleep.
Even later, Tan Yunshu had held her on this very bed, kissing her, coaxing her, leading her… dense, suppressed moans were contained in this tiny space, never escaping.
Recalling this, Fang Yu felt her face flush and her bed felt like it had turned into a hot spring. She snapped back to reality and typed a “Good” back to Tan Yunshu.
But tonight was destined to be sleepless.
The next day was a bright, sunny day. Fang Yu finished the porridge her mother made and headed to the firm. Interns weren’t worth much in this society they were just “tool people” moved wherever needed. Fang Yu was used to this reality; she had lived through it for years.
The work at the firm was decent for her. Including the meal allowance, her daily wage was around 130 yuan. If she worked overtime, it would be more, plus it added a line to her resume, making it easier to find a job after graduation.
However, the firm had a heavy workload. Their audit department had just finished one project and was immediately starting a new one. During the morning meeting, the team leader told them to be prepared for overtime. As luck would have it, they had to work late tonight.
During her afternoon break, Fang Yu sent a message to Tan Yunshu to explain. Last night, Tan Yunshu had worn her down in the car, saying she wanted to eat dinner together tonight to make up for her mistake. Just dinner so Fang Yu had agreed.
Now it seemed that dinner wasn’t going to happen. Tan Yunshu was quite disciplined with her meal times; she wouldn’t touch the kind of late-night snacks Fang Yu usually ate.
Sitting in the pantry, Fang Yu stared at her phone screen, waiting for the break to end and for Tan Yunshu’s reply. She kept drinking water, her eyes practically locked on the screen.
The team leader came in for a break as well. Seeing her sitting there, she patted her shoulder. “Xiao Fang, I see your eyes finally aren’t swollen today.” She then teased with a smile, “Made up with your boyfriend?”
“Not a boyfriend… leader,” Fang Yu said sheepishly, catching the keyword. “But how did you know?”
The leader appeared to be around the same age as Sister Jiao, sharp and energetic. Hearing Fang Yu’s question, the fine lines at the corners of her eyes crinkled. As she brewed coffee, she said, “Is it hard to notice? You young people are like that everything is written on your faces.”
Regarding an industrious and honest junior like Fang Yu, she didn’t mind chatting a bit more. “But for someone who makes you sad, don’t linger too much. Cut the knot quickly the next one will be better. You’re still young. If this person makes you sad again in the future, just ignore them. With your qualities, you can meet someone better, Xiao Fang.”
Fang Yu’s eyes curved into crescents. “Okay, leader. I’ll keep that in mind.”
Just then, a message from Tan Yunshu arrived. The leader stopped talking and found her usual spot to sit. Looking at Tan Yunshu’s message, the corners of Fang Yu’s lips lifted.
Tan Yunshu said she could wait until the overtime ended. They had to have this dinner tonight. She could even pick her up and drive her home.
Fang Yu: Okay.
Overtime didn’t last too late, usually until 8:00 PM two hours later than usual. As summer approached, the sky in Liucheng stayed light longer, but by the time Fang Yu clocked out and left the firm, the sky was already pitch black. Not a single star was in sight.
The group of colleagues looked exhausted and said their goodbyes. Fang Yu waved to them and walked toward the location Tan Yunshu had sent. Since office buildings surrounded the area, parking was tight. Tan Yunshu had to park further away on the roadside. After walking about fifty meters, Fang Yu saw Tan Yunshu standing by the car.
Tan Yunshu had great posture and proportions. She was leaning against the car, looking down at her phone, her thick, chestnut-colored wavy hair swaying slightly. The next second, Fang Yu’s phone vibrated in her hand.
She looked down; it was a call from Tan Yunshu. Raising her eyes, she saw Tan Yunshu already looking in her direction. Tan Yunshu hung up the phone and stood up straight.
The dim yellow streetlights warmed the quiet atmosphere. Fang Yu didn’t speed up; she maintained a normal pace as she approached, trying to look unhurried until she stood before her. “Sorry for the wait.”
“It’s nothing,” Tan Yunshu smiled. She reached out and hooked her arm around Fang Yu’s waist. “It’s my turn to wait for you. I only called because I was worried.”
The flow of people and traffic here was higher than at the mall where she worked part-time, and it wasn’t that late yet. Being hooked like this, Fang Yu buried her face in Tan Yunshu’s shoulder, her ears burning as she whispered, “Tan Yunshu, there are so many people.”
In truth, there weren’t many, and passersby weren’t casting curious looks at them. It was just her own discomfort.
“But I’ve been thinking about you all day,” Tan Yunshu said.
“…Not here.”
Tan Yunshu asked slowly, “Then where is it okay?”
“I want to see you tomorrow night too, Fang Yu.”
