- Chapter 18 - A Sudden Rut
Imperial City Central Hospital—
“Bitch, get up!”
An Alpha, consumed by uncontrollable rage, strode to the bedside. He violently grabbed a handful of the Omega’s hair and delivered two merciless slaps. As if that wasn’t enough to vent his anger, he maintained his grip on the hair and dragged the still-drowsy man straight off the bed.
Subjected to the sudden, violent impact, the Omega’s dark lashes trembled. Bai Yuchen finally woke up ahead of schedule from a wave of overwhelming pain. To his horror, the moment he opened his eyes, he was met with the sight of an Alpha whose eyes were nearly bursting with fury.
Bai Yuchen’s pupils shrank, his body freezing as he didn’t dare to move. “Yun… zheng…”
He knew it. Lu Yunzheng would never forgive him so easily. Even jumping off a building wouldn’t earn him a single shred of the man’s meager pity.
“Bitch, did you tell him?!” A look of ferocity flashed in Lu Yunzheng’s eyes as he tightened his grip on Bai Yuchen’s jaw.
Bai Yuchen stiffened in fear. Forcing himself to endure the pain in his head and face, he stammered an explanation, “No… didn’t say… didn’t say.”
“I told you to keep him here, tell him the child is his, and drive away those around him.” The veins on Lu Yunzheng’s temples throbbed as he suppressed his inner fire to continue questioning, “Why didn’t you do as I said?”
“He doesn’t like me. It’s useless, it’s useless.” Tears flowed down Bai Yuchen’s face as he shook his head timidly.
“He… doesn’t like you?” After hearing this, Lu Yunzheng slowly released his hold and stood up. He raised a foot and stepped onto Bai Yuchen’s slightly protruding abdomen. “Tsk. I wasted so much effort washing off your previous marks. Since this bastard child is of no use… keeping it is just a burden.”
“Yunzheng, no! Don’t hurt him! Don’t hurt our child!” Realizing the man’s intention, Bai Yuchen’s entire body shook. He wrapped his hands around the black boot resting on his belly, trying to push away the heavy pressure. However, he had overestimated himself a mediocre Omega with chronic malnutrition had no strength at all. He couldn’t budge a healthy, powerful SS-rank Alpha.
“Heh, our child? You think you’re worthy?” Listening to his pleas, Lu Yunzheng let out a sneer, his foot pressing down harder. “If you hadn’t taken advantage of my vulnerability back then, how could you have possibly gotten pregnant with my child?!”
“Yunzheng, don’t hurt him… I beg you. I was wrong then, but… the child is innocent. He did nothing wrong. Let him go, okay?” A sharp, dull pain erupted in his abdomen. Bai Yuchen let out a piteous scream, cold sweat pouring from his body as he endured the unbearable agony.
Ignoring him, the man expressionlessly dialed a subordinate’s ID and coldly dropped a single command: “Get someone over here. Abort the seed in his stomach.”
“Yunzheng, no… don’t do this… let him live, please… I beg you.” Bai Yuchen felt as though he had been struck by lightning. His tears instantly flooded over, his voice sounding desperate and shrill.
Elsewhere, not long after Gao Chang and Xing Xiyan left the Central Hospital, Gao Chang felt that something was wrong with his body. Looking at the vibrant night scene behind the youth, he hesitated for a moment before finally speaking: “Xing Xiyan… can we reschedule today’s date?”
At his words, Xing Xiyan stopped walking and turned his face toward the Alpha. “Does Senior not want to be with me?”
Hearing the trace of anger in Xing Xiyan’s tone, Gao Chang felt his consciousness becoming increasingly chaotic. “It’s not that I don’t want to; it’s that… my body is a bit uncomfortable.” He rubbed his hot, flushed face vigorously, trying to cool his temperature, but it had no effect.
From the moment he met Xing Yizhao, especially after inhaling the other’s pheromones, his body had become strange. Not only had his temperature risen significantly, but a restless heat was rampaging through his body, making his head spin without pause. He had been too focused on dealing with the youth earlier to pay much attention to it. Now that he thought about it, he realized these were the early symptoms of a Rut!
Later, in the elevator, Xing Xiyan had pressed against the glands on his nape, teasing and licking him. This had stirred the heat in his body into a frenzy, causing it to skyrocket. He likely wouldn’t be able to calm down anytime soon.
Looking at the Alpha whose face was flushed and whose gaze was becoming increasingly dazed and restless, the youth paused. He reached out to brush away the soft, curly black hair and touched the Alpha’s forehead. The heat coming from his palm was much higher than normal.
Alphas had extraordinary constitutions and rarely fell ill. Usually, high fever and mania were only seen in Alphas entering their Rut. Smelling the increasingly rich, cold fragrance in the air, Xing Xiyan understood. He said softly, “Since Senior is uncomfortable, we will postpone.”
The youth’s palm was very cool, and his grip was neither too light nor too heavy. Wherever he held him, the heat seemed to dissipate slightly; the Alpha couldn’t help but feel a bit addicted to the touch. However, without the help of Omega pheromones, the effect was ultimately a drop in the bucket.
Gao Chang broke free from the hand lingering on his waist and tapped his head, trying to clear his mind. “Alright, we’ll date another time.” The inhibitors he carried were already used up; he had to find a relief station to get an injection. If things got out of control, he feared he would fall into a mania right on the street and harm nearby Omegas.
Before he could take a single step, Xing Xiyan suddenly gripped his arm. As if afraid he would break free again, the youth’s strength was unrestrained, holding him much tighter than before. “Where does Senior think he’s going, leaving me behind?” The youth’s eyes were dark as he asked the obvious.
Gao Chang rubbed his dry throat and didn’t hide the truth. “I… I need to go to a relief station. You know, an Alpha in a Rut is very troublesome.”
“I can help Senior.” The coolness in the youth’s palm almost seeped into his bones.
“No, no, you haven’t differentiated yet. I’m afraid I’ll hurt you.” Gao Chang glanced at his arm, which was already beginning to bruise from the grip. He shook it hard but couldn’t break free. Not only had Xing Xiyan not differentiated meaning he couldn’t provide pheromone soothing but Gao Chang still remembered the “position change” the youth had mentioned this morning. He wasn’t stupid enough to offer himself up on a silver platter to be “dealt with.”
The moment the words left his mouth, a sudden fist slammed into the Alpha’s defenseless abdomen. It was powerful and swift the force of that punch knocked the strength right out of him. Pain tore through his muscles and bones, spreading throughout his body until he could barely stand.
Dammit, that hurts.
Gao Chang’s breath hitched. He weakly grabbed the clothes on the youth’s chest and asked in a faint, questioning voice. “Fuck… why did you… attack me?”
Until the moment he passed out from exhaustion, he still couldn’t understand why Xing Xiyan had suddenly gone mad when they were chatting so well. He understood even less how a yet-to-be-differentiated person could have such immense strength.
“Do not refuse me…” Looking at the Alpha who had passed out from pain, the youth slowly pried the hands from his chest.
“Holy crap, that’s intense!”
Having personally witnessed the youth knock a SS-rank Alpha unconscious, hoist him onto his shoulder, and head toward a certain hotel, Lou Xiaoyi quickly adjusted her camera lens. She followed stealthily, making sure to capture the two from various angles.
CLICK—CLICK—
The sound of the camera shutter rang out. Noticing the frequent flashes behind him, the youth’s gaze turned cold as he swept his eyes toward the figure hiding behind a sculpture. It was none other than the female Alpha she had seen at the military academy this morning.
“Ha, sorry. I got too excited and forgot to turn off the shutter…”
“Let’s make a deal.”
Thinking the youth was going to hold her accountable, Lou Xiaoyi nervously tightened her mask, looking for an excuse to run. But she was interrupted by the youth’s proposal.
“A deal?”
“Exactly.”
