“Does the child’s other father know you’re doing this?”

Gao Chang exhaled irritably, deciding to change his tactics to fish for information.

“He… he kn—he doesn’t know…”

Realizing he had let a secret slip, Bai Yuchen’s face flashed with intense panic. He lowered his head, not daring to meet Gao Chang’s eyes. His fair, smooth nape was partially visible through his open collar.

There was no doubt about it: he was an unmarked pregnant Omega.

Gao Chang was stunned. From the Omega’s clumsy attempt to cover his tracks, it was obvious the biological father knew exactly what the other was up to.

“Chang-chang, so this is where you guys are!”

Before he could process the thought, the low, melodic, and smiling voice of Lu Yunzheng drifted over from the exit of the main building, interrupting the interrogation.

Bai Yuchen, who had been speaking, suddenly froze like a dying caged bird. His body began to tremble violently, his eyes rolled back, and within seconds, he lost consciousness.

Gao Chang assumed that because Bai Yuchen was pregnant and had just escaped a dangerous situation, his body simply couldn’t handle the strain. He didn’t think too deeply about the strange reaction. Just as he was about to step forward to steady him, Xing Xiyan, who was standing beside him, moved even faster and grabbed the Omega’s arm.

“I’ll handle it.”

“How did you…” Since when did you learn to be considerate?

Gao Chang blinked in surprise but didn’t protest.

“Senior is my Alpha. It’s what I should do.”

As if knowing what the Alpha wanted to ask, the youth gave a low chuckle. When he mentioned “my Alpha,” he enunciated the words with a particularly ambiguous, heavy emphasis. It sounded like a deliberate reminder to Gao Chang, and at the same time, an opportunity to declare his territory. His volume wasn’t high, yet it was at a decibel level that Lu Yunzheng, who was walking toward them, could hear perfectly clear.

Gao Chang was momentarily dazed by the youth’s sudden flirtatiousness. Xing Xiyan had emphasized the word “Alpha,” yet for some reason, Gao Chang felt a strange sensation that the youth was actually referring to an “Omega.” It was an inexplicable feeling that something was off.

On the other side, Lu Yunzheng caught the subtle and overt provocation in the youth’s tone, and his initial smile instantly vanished. Then, he naturally draped an arm over Gao Chang’s shoulder, his gaze turning sharp as he scrutinized the youth. “Chang-chang, is this the new little plaything you’ve found?”

Gao Chang was all too familiar with that nitpicking look. He shifted his body slightly, shielding the youth behind him. “Let me introduce you. His name is Xing Xiyan.”

The corners of Lu Yunzheng’s lips curled, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes. “Is that so? How long do you plan to date this one? A month, or two?”

Gao Chang immediately countered with an unceremonious elbow to the ribs. “Lu Yunzheng, I’m warning you, he’s not like the others.”

He had gone to great lengths to convince Xing Xiyan to set aside his prejudices; he didn’t want to “pay the price” for his past mistakes all over again.

“Chang-chang, look at what you’re saying. If your former lovers heard that, they’d come looking for trouble.”

Lu Yunzheng rarely ignored his childhood friend’s hints. Taking advantage of his height, he leaned over and began to vigorously ruffle the Alpha’s hair, showing no intention of letting go. It wasn’t until Gao Chang, flushed with annoyance, threw him half a meter away in disgust.

Catching a glimpse of Xing Xiyan’s darkening expression, Gao Chang felt a sudden jolt of nerves. He smoothed his messy hair and gave a dry explanation: “He’s just trying to sow discord, don’t listen to him!”

Fearing the youth wouldn’t believe him, he added, “I’ve long since cut ties with those people. There’s no connection whatsoever.”

The youth watched him intensely, listening for a moment without responding. Instead, he raised a hand and reached for the Alpha’s hair. Gao Chang froze at the unexpected gesture.

Clean, slender fingers moved nimbly through the black, curly, and soft tresses. Very quickly, he restored the hairstyle that Gao Chang usually struggled to straighten.

Gazing at the widow’s peak reappearing on the Alpha’s forehead, Xing Xiyan suppressed the violence in his heart and whispered a quiet reply.

Seeing that the youth didn’t intend to hold a grudge, Gao Chang felt as if a heavy weight had been lifted from his chest.

Lu Yunzheng, who had been shoved aside, thinned his lips and strode back to the two. His eyes widened for a moment when his gaze fell upon the Omega Xing Xiyan was supporting.

“Chang-chang, did you use the ‘White Eagle’ to save him? Do you have any idea…”

Gao Chang waved his hand, appearing quite resigned to whatever disciplinary action he might face. “I know. It’s just a disciplinary mark, no big deal. The priority right now is getting him to a hospital.”

Even if he had to stay in school for a few more years, it wouldn’t have much of an impact on him. From another perspective, it would give him more opportunities to get close to Xing Xiyan—for the sake of speeding up his “conquest” progress, it might actually be a good thing.

“Tsk, I can’t win against you.” Lu Yunzheng glanced at the unconscious Omega, a trace of cold light flickering in the depths of his eyes. “How about we send him to the Central Hospital?”

Gao Chang nodded; he had no objections. The hospital Lu Yunzheng mentioned was owned by the Lu family. Its medical technology, equipment, and service quality were among the top in the entire Empire. Not only that, but the Lu family controlled nearly 70% of the Empire’s medical industrial chain. Besides his family’s place, there was basically no other choice.

Half an hour later, they delivered Bai Yuchen to the Imperial City Central Hospital.

According to the doctor, the Omega was five weeks pregnant. Having been subjected to multiple frights in a single day, he needed quiet rest and likely wouldn’t wake up until tomorrow.

Looking at the Omega lying quietly on the hospital bed even in a coma, his expression wasn’t relaxed, his brows furrowed with hidden anxiety Gao Chang lost the heart to continue digging for the truth.

He walked over to Lu Yunzheng. “Yunzheng, I’ll leave him in your family’s hospital for now.”

Lu Yunzheng hid his internal surprise, his tone teasing. “Just like that? You’re washing your hands of him?”

“What is there to manage? The child in his belly has nothing to do with me. I don’t have a hobby for stealing other people’s wives and children.” Gao Chang let out a lazy yawn and turned to Xing Xiyan, who was waiting to the side. “I’m going to the restroom. Wait for me here.”

“He told you…?”

Lu Yunzheng’s breath hitched. He looked like his soul had been sucked out, mumbling something with glazed eyes.

Xing Xiyan silently withdrew his gaze from the distraught Lu Yunzheng and turned toward Gao Chang’s retreating figure. “Alright. I’ll wait for you to come back.”

Just as Gao Chang turned a corner coming out of the restroom, he accidentally collided head-on with someone. A crutch hit the floor with a clear, sharp clatter.

A sweet, rich pheromone scent, like a sudden downpour, instantly flooded the air and captured his sense of smell. It smelled surprisingly good.

“Little brother, your pheromones smell so good.”

The Omega’s voice was soft, clear, and delicate, like the rustle of leaves in a night breeze, striking directly at the heart. It coincided perfectly with what Gao Chang was just thinking.

Feeling the small head buried under his shoulder moving slightly as the person sniffed and breathed in the scent from his clothes, Gao Chang uncomfortably pulled the person away.

In that instant, a face that was fifty percent similar to Xing Xiyan’s crashed into his vision.

Questions flooded his mind and tumbled out of his mouth: “What is your relationship with Xing Xiyan?”
