- After Breaking Up with the Alpha Villain, I was Forcibly Marked
- Chapter 15 - "He is My Brother"
Beneath Complex Building 18 of the Empire’s First Military Academy, the air was thick with the clamor of voices. A dense, dark crowd had gathered, craning their necks to gaze at the half-silhouette peering over the edge of the roof.
“Little brother, it’s not safe there! Come down quickly!”
“Whatever happened, just stay calm. Don’t do anything you’ll regret!”
“Who is that up there?”
“An Omega. He was dumped by some scumbag Senior. I heard he even got pregnant, and now he’s here to demand an explanation from the father…”
“Yeah, yeah, don’t throw your life away!”
“Let the scumbag die! Don’t take it out on yourself!”
“Exactly! Scumbag, go to hell!”
As they shouted, the crowd gradually began to empathize with the man’s plight. The tone of the gathering shifted; what started as a few scattered complaints evolved into a collective crusade against the atrocious behavior of “scumbag men” everywhere.
Gao Yang and Xing Xiyan pushed through the crowd, but before they could reach the entrance, they were intercepted by a guard.
“Student, you can’t go in!”
Hearing the staggered condemnations behind him many of which mentioned his own name Gao Yang rubbed his burning earlobes. He chose not to reveal his identity to the guard directly.
“I know the guy up there. I want to go up and talk him down.”
The guard held the cordon tight, refusing to budge an inch. “The building is under full lockdown. No passage allowed.”
Thinking of the Omega on the roof waiting for an explanation, Gao Yang silently retracted his foot and stepped toward the guard again, fabricating a different identity on the spot.
“He’s, my brother. He’s always listened to me. Maybe I can convince him to give up on this idea.”
The guard glanced at the insignia on Gao Yang’s chest and let out a cold snort, his tone becoming even more dismissive. “Rest assured, the school has already deployed a rescue team to the front line for mediation. Your ‘brother’ will be perfectly safe. Now, please leave immediately!”
Gao Yang wanted to say more, but Xing Xiyan silently hooked his pinky finger, signaling him to look toward the other end of the cordon.
“I’m his sister! He’s my only brother; I can’t let anything happen to him! Let me in, please!”
Standing before two other guards was an Alpha woman with long, flaxen curls. She wore a coffee-colored vest and trousers paired with a white base shirt and dark brown boots. A bulging leather bag hung at her waist. Through the partially open flap, one could glimpse the metallic surface of professional camera equipment.
She was clearly a media reporter.
“We will save your brother. Please cooperate and leave the area!”
Hearing the woman’s tearful pleas, the two guards remained unmoved, blocking her with icy expressions.
Gao Yang realized the situation. No wonder the guards hadn’t let him through; this “relative” trick had been overused and seen through long ago.
“AH!!”
Just then, a collective gasp erupted from the crowd.
Everyone looked up to see the man who had been standing on the edge just minutes ago now falling like a broken kite, descending faster and faster.
“Look! He’s falling!!!”
“Where’s the safety cushion?! Open it, quick!!”
“It’s no good! He’s falling in the other direction! There are obstacles blocking the way, the cushion won’t get there in time…”
The scene descended into chaos. The sounds of frantic discussion were everywhere; each voice laced with desperation. As the thin figure grew from a tiny black dot into a clear shape, plummeting toward the ground at an immeasurable speed, the onlookers’ pupils dilated. They held their breath, hearts in their throats for the man.
Fainter-hearted bystanders turned dizzy with fear, covering their mouths or shutting their eyes, instinctively refusing to witness death firsthand.
He’s doomed…
Looking at the figure deviating nearly half a meter from the safety cushion, everyone reached the same grim conclusion.
Whoosh
In an instant, a white afterimage streaked through the air like the final flare of a prairie fire cutting through the dark night, heading straight for the falling figure.
In mid-air, a white mecha appeared, holding a soft, thick blue rescue net. Cradled within the net was the terrified, but safe, man. Most striking were the three-meter-long mechanical wings attached to the back of the white mecha. The wings were shaped like those of a raptor, with every white feather distinct and meticulously detailed. The wing bones were forged from a rare metal that was virtually priceless on the interstellar market.
Inside and out, every component whispered of the creator’s ingenuity and their enviable, staggering wealth.
Seeing the man saved, the crowd’s tension finally broke. While many began to disperse, the focus of their gossip shifted wildly.
“Who’s that badass? How do they dare pilot a mecha outside the arena?”
“Tsk tsk, looks like someone else is getting expelled!”
“They saved a life; maybe the school will be lenient?!”
“Who knows? The last person who broke school rules hasn’t graduated yet, and it’s been five years.”
…
Xing Xiyan’s gaze swept over the dispersing crowd. He lowered his eyes to hide a sudden surge of cold hostility, walking step by step toward the white mecha.
According to Article 3452 of the Imperial Public Safety Act, combat-type mechas are strictly forbidden from being activated outside of special circumstances. Furthermore, they are never permitted in crowded public places like campuses or streets without joint approval from relevant departments.
To save an Omega, he was willing to be this reckless.
A moment later, the majestic white mecha vanished, replaced by the tall, lean figure of the Alpha.
“Gao… Master Gao…”
Seeing the face of his savior, the Omega’s body trembled. Tears burst from his eyes and fell in rapid successions. He looked like a fragile, tender sapling that could be shattered by the slightest gust of wind.
“Look, if you wanted to find me, there was no need to be this extreme!”
Smelling the cloyingly sweet and heavy scent of laurel in the air, Gao Yang frowned. He stowed his activation button and sized up the Omega before him.
Likely still caught in the terror of the fall, the Omega’s already haggard, heart-shaped face was now a pale, sickly gray. He had soft black hair and delicate, refined features that looked quiet and pitiful. Most unique were his obsidian eyes, shimmering with tears, reminiscent of a fawn deep in the woods.
He was a rare type among the many flamboyant Omegas Gao Yang had seen fragile and weak, as if the wind itself could break him.
Gao Yang had expected a pampered, arrogant troublemaker; he hadn’t expected someone this “frail.” Aside from the lingering impression of the strong pheromones, the person before him looked nothing like the one in his memories.
“Master Gao… I… I’m sorry… I actually…”
The Omega kept both hands pressed firmly over his lower abdomen. He hadn’t yet recovered from the shock; his frail body shook unconsciously as he struggled to speak.
Noticing the slight, rounded bulge of the Omega’s belly, Gao Yang’s brow arched. “Why did you say the child was mine?”
From the way the man was instinctively protecting his stomach, he seemed to value the child very much.
“It’s… I… I’m sorry… You’re a good person…”
Bai Yuchen’s tears flowed even harder, his words becoming incoherent.
