Chapter 43: Going Home – Taking Yu Shujin Home
Xu Yinyu’s goal had been achieved.
She needed to let Yu Shujin know that she deeply loved someone else. This way, given Yu Shujin’s personality, even if she genuinely liked her, she wouldn’t appear in front of Xu Yinyu again.
She and Yu Shujin had been meant to be, but fate stood in the way before, and it was the same now.
They were separated by years of distance, the emotional misalignment of her obsession, and a trust that had long vanished.
Many things were not clarified, but hastily glossed over, leading to greater conflict and leaving both parties in a state where communication was impossible.
The chasm created by their separation, even if only a brief period, was difficult to mend completely.
“Yes,” Xu Yinyu admitted frankly in front of Yu Shujin.
Many unspeakable words were easier for Xu Yinyu to articulate when facing the amnesiac Yu Shujin.
Taking advantage of Yu Shujin’s misunderstanding, Xu Yinyu stated, “My wife and I met in our youth, accompanied each other in success, and never forgot each other.”
“But you still separated.”
Yu Shujin’s gaze was like a sharp blade, piercing Xu Yinyu’s heart. “Miss Xu, if you truly love someone, you won’t let her wait lonely in place. Separation is the ultimate coda of love.”
Xu Yinyu’s brow twitched violently. She pursed her lips. “Actually, these are my personal matters.”
Yu Shujin was unconcerned. “In matters of emotion, those involved often can’t see clearly. In my view, Miss Xu is too indecisive about relationships. Even if the feelings were genuine in your youth, if you’ve reached the point of separation, you should cut your losses and withdraw early, instead of wasting your youth unnecessarily.”
“Uh,” Xu Yinyu pressed her hand to her forehead. “Under what capacity and standing are you telling me this? We are merely strangers who have met a few times and know nothing about each other.”
Yu Shujin answered without hesitation, frankly, “I like you. The first time I saw you, I wanted to take you and keep you in my treasure chest, so that no one else could find you, and only I would know where you are.”
Xu Yinyu’s eyelids twitched twice. She abruptly stood up, her cheeks flushed. “I’m going home.”
Yu Shujin also rose, sweeping her arm out to trap Xu Yinyu between the dining table and herself. “Miss Xu, I am not a monster. Why are you avoiding me?”
The strong scent of hyacinth from Yu Shujin’s body filled Xu Yinyu’s nostrils.
Xu Yinyu argued defensively, “I’m not avoiding you. I just want to go home and rest.”
Yu Shujin glanced outside. The sky was dark. She recalled the time Xu Yinyu was harassed by ruffians during their first meeting, and how she struggled to maintain her composure.
She spoke, “I drove today. I can take you home on the way.”
Xu Yinyu rejected the offer without thinking. “No need. It’s quite convenient for me to call a taxi.”
She had just picked up her phone to call a ride when the phone suddenly vibrated. The caller ID was Marlene.
Yu Shujin visibly frowned unconsciously.
Xu Yinyu pushed her, but couldn’t move her. Her expression crumpled, her eyes filling with anger, which didn’t deter Yu Shujin at all.
She had no choice but to weakly answer the phone. “Hello, Teacher Marlene.”
Yu Shujin actively widened the distance between them, holding her hand, and led her out of the restaurant.
Xu Yinyu was busy talking to Marlene, her attention completely focused on the call. Before she could react, she was led into the car by Yu Shujin step by step.
When Xu Yinyu hung up the phone, she realized she was already in the passenger seat of Yu Shujin’s car.
Yu Shujin thoughtfully leaned over her chest, helping her buckle the seatbelt. Their long hair mingled together.
Xu Yinyu’s eyes trembled slightly.
The intimate memories of the past were instantly reawakened.
Yu Shujin asked, “Address?”
Xu Yinyu gave the name of a place in a remote suburb.
Yu Shujin looked at her, lifting an eyebrow. “Doesn’t HM Company offer housing subsidies?”
Xu Yinyu shook her head. “HM Company only offers housing subsidies to its management team.”
“Oh, I thought the employee benefits were the same across all companies,” Yu Shujin hinted. “In my company, everyone, even interns, gets housing subsidies.”
Xu Yinyu nodded. “I also wish all companies could value employee benefits like the Wanyu Group controlled by the Yu family.”
Yu Shujin gasped. “I don’t have that much capability to influence all company regulations.”
Xu Yinyu looked at her in confusion. “Why would you want to influence all company regulations?”
A person’s energy is limited. No matter how capable Yu Shujin was, she couldn’t achieve something that even the presidents of various countries couldn’t, yet she was striving to complete it alone.
Yu Shujin held the steering wheel, looking straight ahead. “Because I always subconsciously want the wishes of the person I like to come true.”
She saw herself as a wishing well.
More accurately, she saw herself as Xu Yinyu’s exclusive wishing well.
Xu Yinyu said softly, “Then I hope you return home soon.”
Yu Shujin: …
Yu Shujin pretended not to hear. Unable to drive around any longer, she made a turn and stopped in front of Xu Yinyu’s villa.
Xu Yinyu should have said some polite words, such as inviting the helpful Yu Shujin into her house for a glass of water.
But she was afraid Yu Shujin would actually come in.
So, she simply offered thanks. “Thank you, President Yu, for taking time out of your busy schedule to drive me home.”
Yu Shujin waited for her to continue. After waiting a minute, she realized this person hadn’t even prepared a common courtesy line, perhaps fearing that she would invite herself in?
Xu Yinyu cleared her throat. “It’s getting late, President Yu. I won’t keep you.”
Yu Shujin smiled instead of getting angry. Her finger touched the central control screen of the car. She said with a hint of surprise, “Why is my car out of gas?”
Xu Yinyu’s eyelid twitched violently. She leaned forward to look, following Yu Shujin’s voice, and indeed saw the fuel gauge pointer near the zero red line.
Yu Shujin slowly turned to look at Xu Yinyu. “It’s so dark. It feels difficult to call a taxi.”
Her expression was full of worry and unease.
Xu Yinyu met her gaze. The dim car lights barely allowed her to make out the other’s features. She didn’t want to be the first to speak, but finally lost the battle of silence.
For some unknown reason, the car lights suddenly went out, extinguishing all the light before them.
Xu Yinyu suddenly felt her finger being traced by a hot fingertip, gently brushing against her earlobe.
In the darkness, having lost the clarity of vision, her ears became extremely sensitive.
“Miss Xu,” Yu Shujin’s voice drifted into her ear with the cool air.
“I think I really need your help right now.”
Yu Shujin’s warm palm covered her wrist again. Her voice was low, with a light lift at the end, sounding particularly fragile. “May I?”
Xu Yinyu was so captivated her soul felt like it was floating. Then, her entire body was embraced by the scent of hyacinth.
When she felt Yu Shujin’s long, strong hands begin to touch her waist, her rationality instantly returned.
“You,” Xu Yinyu backed away abruptly, as if scalded by hot water. “Ask, just ask. Why are you touching me?”
But Yu Shujin accurately grabbed her wrist.
Leaving her no room to escape.
Yu Shujin’s long, narrow phoenix eyes slightly narrowed. The vulnerability in her eyes was crushed by a hint of a smile, replaced by a decadent, captivating charm. She chuckled softly in the dark car. “I like it.”
Xu Yinyu refused to waste any more time at the door with her. “But I’m not used to it.”
She then reached to open the car door.
Yu Shujin narrowed her eyes, lowering her head as if looking for something.
Xu Yinyu fumbled for a moment before finding the release button. Just as she pressed it, a sudden flash of light appeared before her.
Xu Yinyu had adapted to the darkness for a long time. The strong light hit her, and she squinted uncomfortably. When she opened her eyes again, she saw that Yu Shujin had already gotten out of the car and extended her hand to her.
Xu Yinyu naturally used Yu Shujin’s strength to stand up. She glanced sideways, seeing Yu Shujin holding a flashlight, illuminating the path ahead. She felt a slight sense of relief.
The nighttime security in Country S was not as good as in China. Even if Xu Yinyu disliked Yu Shujin, she wouldn’t leave her to wait alone for a taxi.
Xu Yinyu took the flashlight, leading Yu Shujin ahead. She settled her in the guest bedroom. “There are unused underclothes and clothes in the closet. Feel free to use them.”
“Oh,” Yu Shujin said with reserve. “Thank you, Miss Xu.”
“You’re welcome.” Xu Yinyu waved her hand, indicating Yu Shujin should make herself comfortable.
The room’s furniture was simple, with only a bed and a closet. Yu Shujin sat on the bed, looking elegant and noble, releasing all the suppressed pressure and casualness she had previously contained.
She surveyed the guest room with a direct gaze, then walked to the closet Xu Yinyu mentioned. She took out a set of pajamas that seemed unworn and went into the bathroom.
The sound of running water soon followed.
After closing the guest bedroom door, Xu Yinyu immediately tightly closed the door to the art room, which she hadn’t locked this morning.
Xu Yinyu had just let out a sigh of relief, her chest still slightly rising and falling.
But she suddenly heard a soft “Miss Xu?”
Xu Yinyu subconsciously looked up toward the sound, not even having time to conceal her startled expression.
“What are you looking at?” Yu Shujin was looking down at Xu Yinyu’s every movement from the second floor.
Xu Yinyu’s throat tightened. “Nothing, I wasn’t doing anything.”
She subconsciously forced a nervous smile.
“Then could Miss Xu come up for a moment? I couldn’t find the hairdryer.”
Xu Yinyu then noticed that Yu Shujin was only wearing a thin creamy-white pajama set. Only the third button was fastened, leaving a large expanse of fair, smooth skin exposed to the air. Water droplets dripped from her hair, wetting her translucent skin.
Xu Yinyu swallowed hard, tightly answering “Okay.” She found the hairdryer for Yu Shujin and brought it to her.
Yu Shujin lowered her eyes, slowly turning to face Xu Yinyu.
Xu Yinyu: ???
“I apologize for the trouble, Miss Xu,” Yu Shujin said.
Xu Yinyu’s eyes widened. She gnashed her teeth looking at the extremely shameless Yu Shujin. “President Yu, you’re welcome!”
Xu Yinyu busied herself with the hairdryer, aiming it at Yu Shujin’s head.
A little while later, “Miss Xu, could you help me dry the back of my hair as well?”
After moving positions, Xu Yinyu heard again, “Miss Xu, could you brush it while you dry it?”
Xu Yinyu clicked her teeth together, reluctantly agreeing. She pulled a comb from the dressing table drawer.
“Miss Xu, could the hairdryer be held a bit further from my hair?”
“Miss Xu,…”
Eventually, Xu Yinyu’s face went cold, and she outright refused. “President Yu, if your hair is blown any more, it’ll catch fire.”
Yu Shujin seemed to only just realize it. She picked up a strand of hair with her fingers. “Thank you, Miss Xu.”
Miss Xu held her neck stiffly, daring not to be polite with Yu Shujin anymore, and directly urged her to leave. “It’s late. You should go back and rest.”
Yu Shujin also seemed to feel she had tormented her enough. She lifted her foot, ready to leave.
Xu Yinyu had just climbed into bed and reached out to turn off the light. Her pajamas, stretched taut at the waist, exposed a sliver of fair, slender skin. A single glance was enough to make one’s heart burn.
Yu Shujin suddenly turned around, taking in the sight completely.
