Chapter 42: Deep Affection – You Truly Have Deep Affection for Your Wife
Yu Shujin received Xu Yinyu’s personal information from Chi Xia.
Her gaze fell on the marital status column.
Her eyes trembled slightly.
Her breathing grew heavy.
Married?!
She was actually married.
Yu Shujin hadn’t seen any trace of marriage on Xu Yinyu. She clearly remembered there was no wedding ring on the other party’s ring finger.
Moreover, the clothes Xu Yinyu wore showed varying degrees of wear and tear. It was clear that Xu Yinyu hadn’t received any nourishment of love in this marriage.
Yu Shujin frowned, opened the private room door, and prepared to step out for some air.
Unknowingly, she walked to the front desk. Remembering the worn, pure white shirt Xu Yinyu wore, which still had wrinkles despite being carefully washed, she decided to pay her bill for her.
“President Yu?”
Yu Shujin suddenly looked up, meeting a pair of warm, gentle amber eyes.
Xu Yinyu slightly bowed. “Thank you, President Yu, for paying for me in advance, but you don’t need to worry that I don’t have money. I hosted this meal because of a job promotion and an increase in salary.
I’ve already asked the receptionist to transfer the money for the meal back to you.”
Yu Shujin stared at the section of fair wrist exposed as Xu Yinyu slightly pushed up her shirt sleeve.
After waiting for Xu Yinyu to finish all her words alone, she slowly asked an unexpected question.
“Are you married?”
Xu Yinyu’s eyelid twitched violently. She abruptly clenched her fists, using so much force that the veins on the back of her hands bulged, and her fingertips turned white.
She guessed that Yu Shujin had noticed her and instructed someone to look up her identity information. However, due to Yu Zhenmin’s instructions, the results of this private investigation did not reveal the identity of Xu Yinyu’s spouse.
Otherwise, with Yu Shujin’s sensitivity, she would absolutely not be standing calmly opposite her, asking Xu Yinyu politely.
It would also be very difficult for Xu Yinyu to casually joke and laugh with her colleagues in the restaurant.
“Yes,” Xu Yinyu’s voice was obscure and uneasy. “I am married.”
Yu Shujin carefully observed Xu Yinyu’s expression. Her face was calm, smooth, and mature.
She even spoke, offering a compliment to Xu Yinyu. “Miss Xu, you look gentle and charming. I wonder which lucky person got such a bargain.”
Xu Yinyu lowered her head. “We have separated due to relationship discord.”
A hint of serenity suddenly appeared on Yu Shujin’s snow-white expression. “Since the feelings are gone, why not get a divorce?”
Xu Yinyu paused slightly, looked up, and fixed her gaze on Yu Shujin.
Her expression became troubled.
Seeing Xu Yinyu’s troubled expression, Yu Shujin was exceptionally understanding and reasonable. “Is the divorce process too complicated domestically? If you plan to divorce in the future, you can contact me. I have access to a registered fast track in City A that I can offer you.”
Xu Yinyu nodded numbly, saying politely, “Thank you for your kind offer, President Yu. I will contact you if needed. I need to return to the private room. Would you like to join me? We could have some fun.”
Any person with a sense of morality, upon learning that their crush is married, would choose to retreat to a normal social distance.
Yu Shujin struggled with her own rationale, but upon hearing Xu Yinyu’s clear, pleasant voice and seeing her light, round eyes, she instinctively followed Xu Yinyu.
“Sure, I like making friends,” Yu Shujin said.
Xu Yinyu pushed open the private room door and made a gesture for her to enter.
Yu Shujin passed by Xu Yinyu, catching a whiff of a clean detergent scent near her nose, and couldn’t help but sniff slightly.
Inside the private room, the women, after taking off their heavy coats, drinking some soda, and eating hot food, had started their machine-gun mode of gossiping. The first topics of complaint were the recently fired Alice and the power-abusing Zhou Yun.
Victoria was the main commentator. When she gossiped, she was animated. “When Zhou Yun first joined the company, she was so arrogant, especially with her cold attitude toward Alice. I thought she was a special envoy from headquarters. She was always buzzing around Xu Yinyu, causing trouble, which made me nervous for a while. Sigh, I never thought she was just someone who used the back door.”
Yu Shujin overheard this part the moment she entered. “Zhou Yun? Alice?”
Xu Yinyu clapped her hands and introduced the two groups. “This is my friend, Yu Shujin.
And these are my colleagues. This is Victoria…”
It was Xu Yinyu’s first time introducing a friend in front of everyone, especially one who looked like a celestial being. The group that was initially surrounding Victoria immediately flocked around Xu Yinyu and Yu Shujin.
“Xu, is she a regular friend or a girlfriend?” the doctor asked, squinting.
Xu Yinyu almost gasped and glared at the doctor.
Victoria, aware of their relationship and Xu Yinyu’s awkward position, cracked a joke and intervened, wrapping her arm around the doctor’s neck and answering for Xu Yinyu. “Naturally, she has the same relationship with Xu as we do.”
The doctor’s face flushed. She peeled Victoria off her. “My relationship with you is entirely proper.”
Everyone teased them, and Yu Shujin’s gaze shifted from Xu Yinyu to Victoria.
She remembered this woman.
Xu Yinyu had rejected her lunch invitation for her, yet this woman was currently inappropriately clinging to someone else.
Yu Shujin lowered her eyes, making her expression unreadable.
The aloof demeanor of the two did not lead to prolonged questioning from the crowd. Soon, Victoria told a piece of captivating gossip that drew many people’s attention away.
Xu Yinyu took a can of soda from the side and placed it in front of Yu Shujin. “It’s orange flavor. You can try it.”
A hint of calm appeared in Yu Shujin’s eyes. She accepted the drink. “Thank you.”
Xu Yinyu nodded in acceptance. “Is there anything you want to eat? We can order more.”
However, the food on the table was still steaming, and many dishes were completely untouched.
Yu Shujin, who generally avoided eating at banquets, silently shook her head in refusal.
“I’ve already eaten.”
Xu Yinyu understood Yu Shujin’s habits and didn’t press her further, simply making polite conversation.
“President Yu, you came to Country S this time to discuss business, right?”
Yu Shujin nodded. “To discuss an investment with the Shen Group, and incidentally, to invest in a comic copyright at your company to open up the domestic market.”
Xu Yinyu’s body stiffened unnaturally when she heard the surname “Shen.” “Looking at your demeanor, President Yu, it seems like it’s a sure thing.”
Yu Shujin noticed Xu Yinyu’s discomfort. “The Shen Group is always nitpicking. It’s difficult to move forward without three to five rounds of negotiations.”
Xu Yinyu’s face was pale. She took a sip of the drink to conceal her reaction, forcing a smile. “Is that so? I’m not very familiar with the business world.”
It was indeed hard for someone outside the business world to have a deep understanding of it.
Yu Shujin didn’t doubt her much. “The business world is fundamentally no different from other circles.”
Xu Yinyu felt her fingers being accidentally touched, and her heart stirred.
Yu Shujin continued, seemingly unintentionally, “Except that the exclusivity is too strong.”
Xu Yinyu hummed in acknowledgment. She looked out at the dark glass of the private room, realizing night had fallen completely.
Many people began to think of leaving and said their goodbyes to Xu Yinyu one after another.
Soon, only Victoria, the doctor, Xu Yinyu, and Yu Shujin remained in the private room.
Victoria was the first to break the silence. “Well, the doctor and I are heading back now, Xu.”
Xu Yinyu nodded, standing up to see them off.
The doctor’s gaze was intense, lingering between Xu Yinyu and Yu Shujin.
She even gave Xu Yinyu a ‘cheer up’ gesture.
When the door closed, only she and Yu Shujin were left in the private room.
Her rationality screamed danger at her, fiercely flashing red lights as a warning.
But she understood that constantly avoiding Yu Shujin was useless.
Besides, avoiding the issue could never solve it.
“President Yu, are you free tonight?” Xu Yinyu took a deep breath.
Yu Shujin nodded, her expression unchanged. “Of course. I am always free for an invitation from Miss Xu.”
Xu Yinyu said, “President Yu is joking. How could I deserve such high regard from you?”
Yu Shujin smiled without speaking.
Xu Yinyu was the first to proactively make an offer to Yu Shujin. “HSH Restaurant, shall we go?”
Yu Shujin took Xu Yinyu’s hand, selfishly stroking it. The suppressed emotion in her heart instantly erupted. “Yes.”
Xu Yinyu was enveloped by the familiar presence. Her first reaction wasn’t rejection or struggle, but rather a surrender of her weariness and guard.
She yielded and let Yu Shujin take her hand.
The two went to the adjacent restaurant. Yu Shujin re-ordered, while Xu Yinyu requested a cup of warm water and a small portion of Western food.
Xu Yinyu looked at the food on her plate, missing the savory and spicy Chinese cuisine.
“Miss Xu still looks unaccustomed to the local diet. Are you not considering going back home?” Yu Shujin asked.
Xu Yinyu fiercely bit into a piece of broccoli, swallowing it whole. Hearing Yu Shujin’s words, her face froze.
Her cheeks puffed out slightly as she chewed diligently. Only when her mouth was empty did she slowly speak.
“Because my wife is back home. My wife’s family has always opposed our relationship, and they are very powerful there. I was very scared, so I fled abroad to survive.”
Yu Shujin’s eyes widened slightly. “Miss Xu’s relationship with her wife sounds like it has faced quite a few obstacles.”
Xu Yinyu looked at Yu Shujin. Taking advantage of the other party’s amnesia, her courage grew. She spoke candidly about the past. “Yes, my wife is also very dominating. I couldn’t bear her being too overbearing, so I ran away.”
“Hasn’t she actively looked for you to return?” Yu Shujin asked.
If she were Xu Yinyu’s wife, she absolutely couldn’t tolerate her lover leaving her, especially leaving the country and living separately.
Yu Shujin wouldn’t even let anyone leave her master bedroom.
Xu Yinyu’s throat tightened. “She probably forgot about me.”
Yu Shujin’s eyes flickered. “Since she has forgotten you, why not look for a new love?
Life is meant to be lived for yourself.”
Yu Shujin’s eyes lifted at the corners, her tone rising with an enticing hook, like a fox spirit who had gained enlightenment over a thousand years, seducing a scholar she favored.
Xu Yinyu sharply turned her head and coughed twice, completely destroying the heating atmosphere. She spoke recklessly, “No, I can’t. My heart and eyes are completely filled with her. I can’t live without her anymore. I must be with her this lifetime.”
Yu Shujin’s previously raised lips instantly cooled. Her face became dark and indifferent, exactly like the culprit’s face in Xu Yinyu’s recurring nightmares after she woke up tossing and turning.
“Clang!”
The knife and fork in Xu Yinyu’s hand clattered against the plate, making a light noise that drew the waiter’s attention.
Xu Yinyu quickly steadied herself and firmly but calmly declined the waiter’s assistance. Bearing Yu Shujin’s stare, she slowly forced herself to eat the food on her plate, losing her appetite.
Yu Shujin’s eyes were cold and deep. She spoke to Xu Yinyu word by word, the sound carrying a feeling of bitter resentment, as if she were grinding her teeth.
“You truly have deep, a-ffec-tion for your wife.”
