Chapter 28: Date – Why Did You Leave?
Xu Yinyu leaned against the bamboo structure beside the outdoor hot spring pool, reaching for a drink placed in the nearby bamboo basket.
When the waiter brought it earlier, they specifically introduced one of the specialties: plum wine.
Whole, plump green plums were steeped in a celadon bottle. The liquor was a clear, translucent amber color, brewed with the local spring water. Poured into a white porcelain cup, one could see fresh fruit pulp and scattered plum blossoms.
Xu Yinyu took a sip. The sourness of the green plum was neutralized by the sweetness of the plum blossom wine, instantly dispelling the heat-induced dizziness. She couldn’t resist drinking two more cups. The fatigue of the past few days lifted, and her whole body felt warm.
By the time Yu Shujin noticed, Xu Yinyu’s face was flushed, like a cooked shrimp.
Yu Shujin’s brow twitched. She cupped Xu Yinyu’s scorching face in her hands. “A-Yu, A-Yu, are you drunk?”
Xu Yinyu could barely open her eyes. Feeling very comfortable, she couldn’t help but hum. “Mm-hmm…”
Seeing Xu Yinyu’s dazed state, Yu Shujin immediately called the waiter. “Hello, my friend has had too much to drink. Please prepare a hangover soup for her.”
The waiter was quick and soon brought a cup of hangover soup for Xu Yinyu, explaining patiently, “Our fruit wine does not have a high alcohol content and will not cause headaches. Please don’t worry too much.”
Yu Shujin nodded, took the soup, and gently brought it to Xu Yinyu’s lips.
It was the first time she had seen Xu Yinyu drink. She hadn’t expected her alcohol tolerance to be surprisingly poor, nor her drunken demeanor to be unexpectedly quiet.
Xu Yinyu’s eyes were half-open, staring blankly at Yu Shujin. Her long eyelashes fluttered like butterfly wings, seemingly about to drop a scorching pearl at any moment.
“Drink the hangover soup,” Yu Shujin urged softly.
The drunk Xu Yinyu turned her head away in dissatisfaction, giving Yu Shujin her answer through action.
Yu Shujin found Xu Yinyu’s evasive movement adorable and chased after her, asking knowingly, “What’s wrong? You don’t like it?”
Xu Yinyu turned her face to the other side again. In the entire open-air night sky, only the lights dotting the bamboo trellis illuminated her flushed face.
“No.” With all the fatigue in her mind and the constantly strained rationality finally let go, Xu Yinyu would also reject things emotionally.
“Then do you still want to drink plum wine?” Yu Shujin handed the hangover soup back to the waiter, giving a meaningful look.
The waiter paused, then immediately poured the hangover soup into Xu Yinyu’s drinking cup.
Xu Yinyu slowly nodded, even reaching out to grab Yu Shujin.
When her hair was grabbed, Xu Yinyu tugged lightly at Yu Shujin.
The waiter was deeply shocked. There wasn’t a trace of annoyance on Yu Shujin’s face.
Not only was there none, but she even very considerately offered her hair closer to Xu Yinyu.
“Your hair is so curly,” Xu Yinyu, wide-eyed, reached an irrelevant conclusion, and kept trying to pull it straight, attempting to smooth Yu Shujin’s hair. “Are you malnourished from being too tired?”
She continued talking to herself. “In high school, your hair was still black and straight. When it was down, you looked like a fairy, drop-dead gorgeous.”
“Why does your hair break so easily when pulled now?” Xu Yinyu’s voice became increasingly fragmented, like a bewildered child who couldn’t see the way home.
Yu Shujin had one strand of hair pulled out. The hangover soup in her hand hadn’t reached Xu Yinyu’s lips yet and shattered on the bamboo trellis with a bang.
The waiter immediately bent down to clean up, but didn’t dare to touch Yu Shujin’s hand. “Miss Yu, I’ll go fetch another cup for Miss Xu. Please wait.”
Yu Shujin’s heart pounded wildly. She wiped the hot liquid from her hands with a handkerchief. She cupped Xu Yinyu, whose eyes were full of only her, and said softly, “Yes, why did you leave?”
“You knew better than anyone that I needed you more than anyone else.”
Xu Yinyu’s muddled brain couldn’t process Yu Shujin’s question. She could only stare back at Yu Shujin with bright, innocent eyes full of heartache.
Straight into her deepest memories.
Unable to hear an answer, Yu Shujin sighed lightly. She pressed her forehead against Xu Yinyu’s scorching temperature, closed her eyes, and said, “It’s alright, I forgive you. But I won’t give you that chance again.”
She turned her head and kissed Xu Yinyu’s lips, slowly tasting the mellow flavor of the plum wine.
The night sky was lonely, and the starlight was sparse.
But the bustling city lights flickered like daylight, immensely lively.
Xu Qingyu walked out of the loud, neon-lit Starry Splendor bar. She was wearing a black leather skirt, short-cut, revealing a pair of clean-lined and sexy long legs with fair, bright skin. She was casually holding a cigarette, and her eyes, adorned with long, narrow eyeliner, outlined an ambition she usually kept hidden. She looked like a dangerous, lurking wild leopard.
She exhaled a graceful smoke ring. A similarly sexy and beautiful woman leaned close to her, rubbing against her flirtatiously.
Xu Qingyu looked sideways and smiled faintly.
The sexy woman thought she had a chance and became bolder in her actions.
Xu Qingyu grabbed the hand that was lingering on her exposed waist, her expression unrestrained and wild. “You’re not a first-timer here, are you?”
The woman wasn’t annoyed at being grabbed; she even laughed. The heavy makeup obscured her original features. “Of course not.”
The tone trailed off like a seductive purr of a fox.
Xu Qingyu smoothly pulled her into her embrace, looking directly at her, stating confidently, “I’ve been going through a rough patch lately. I’m going to be very domineering in my actions. You’ll regret coming to flirt with me.”
The woman didn’t shrink back or fear her, hugging Xu Qingyu’s shoulder. “Is that so? I’m not afraid.”
Xu Qingyu smiled and completely enveloped the woman in her arms. The two walked teasingly towards the hotel across the street.
She pulled out her ID, when her eyes suddenly caught sight of two familiar figures. She snapped her head back to look, but the two figures had already disappeared.
“Yu Shujin?”
Xu Qingyu muttered, “Why would she be here?”
“Did you see someone you know?” the sexy woman nestled in her arms. “Should we change hotels?”
“No need. They’re not enemies,” Xu Qingyu smiled, took the room card, and helped the woman towards the elevator.
After drinking the hangover soup, Xu Yinyu woke up in fits and starts. One moment she would climb onto Yu Shujin’s body, the next she would fight and insist on breaking free from her. Fearing she would drown if she struggled too much, Yu Shujin had to temporarily halt their hot spring date.
She took Xu Yinyu to the Yu Group’s five-star hotel, directly to her exclusive presidential suite to rest.
Yu Shujin helped Xu Yinyu onto the bed, laid her flat, and then went to take a shower herself.
After a quick wash, Yu Shujin, wearing pajamas, was wiping her wet hair. Xu Yinyu’s words flashed through her mind, and she instinctively leaned over the sink to look for hair treatment.
Just as she had applied the hair treatment, Yu Shujin heard a loud crash from outside. She quickly rushed out.
She saw Xu Yinyu fall to the floor.
Yu Shujin covered her mouth, pulled out her phone, and couldn’t resist taking a picture, suppressing her laughter. “How can you be so clumsy?”
The distance between the bed and the floor was short, and there was a thick carpet.
Yu Shujin helped Xu Yinyu sit back on the bed. She wasn’t in pain from the fall, but her mind was foggy. She blinked her eyes; she had blacked out.
“How did we get here?”
Yu Shujin hummed, brushing the dust off Xu Yinyu’s body. “You got drunk. This is the nearest hotel, so I brought you here to rest.”
“I see,” Xu Yinyu scratched her head, looking at Yu Shujin apologetically. “Did I do anything strange? I blacked out.”
“It was fine, not very strange,” Yu Shujin’s tone lifted. “You’re cute when you’re drunk.”
Xu Yinyu’s mouth twitched. She really should drink less.
“But others don’t sober up as fast as you,” Yu Shujin still wanted to admire Xu Yinyu while she was drunk, and see the expressions and behaviors she usually wouldn’t show.
She didn’t expect a small fall would wake her up.
Xu Yinyu stood up, her legs feeling weak. She almost couldn’t stand straight. Yu Shujin quickly held her. “Going to shower?”
Xu Yinyu’s earlobes were still very red. She lowered her head and nodded again. “Just a quick rinse.”
“I’ll help you,” Yu Shujin said, and without allowing refusal, she helped Xu Yinyu into the bathroom.
After Yu Shujin placed their clothes in the hamper outside the door, the sound of the shower and faint, gentle gasps filled the bathroom.
When Xu Yinyu woke up the next day, she felt her eyelids were swollen. She touched the spot next to her, and when she didn’t feel the presence of a second person, her sleepiness dissipated. She rubbed her eyes and sat up.
“You’re awake. Go wash up first. I have a business meeting abroad today. I booked a ticket for an art exhibition there, and it’s for a painter you like.” Yu Shujin walked in from outside, carrying two meal boxes, and placed them neatly on the table.
Xu Yinyu processed the content from Yu Shujin’s rapid speech.
So, she could go to an art exhibition today?
A trace of surprise flashed in Xu Yinyu’s eyes. She couldn’t help but ask, “Whose exhibition is it?”
“She seems to be French. The one you told me about in high school. I think her name was Mar… Line.”
“Maline!” A strong light burst forth from Xu Yinyu’s eyes. “You still remember her? Her style back then was deep and direct. Now her style is more stable. I really, really want to see her works.”
Yu Shujin stroked Xu Yinyu’s head, looking at the kiss marks on her eyelids and the sparkle in her eyes. “Go wash up. You’ll be satisfied today.”
Xu Yinyu happily went to the sink, humming a tune as she brushed her teeth. She looked up at the mirror and saw the kiss marks on her face. Her expression instantly changed.
“Yu Shujin!” Xu Yinyu said angrily. “Why did you bite my face like this?”
Yu Shujin was calmly getting dressed, not flustered in the slightest, even acting quite shamelessly. “I couldn’t help myself, you know. You were arching your neck and wrapping yourself around me. How was I supposed to hold back?”
Xu Yinyu remembered last night, her face flushing with embarrassment. “Don’t talk about it.”
Yu Shujin raised an eyebrow. “Then help me decide. Should I wear the white or black suit for going out today?”
Xu Yinyu finished washing her face and came to stand in front of Yu Shujin, who was wearing a black suit. “Change into the white suit and let me see.”
Yu Shujin immediately took it off, changing into the white suit without the slightest bit of awkwardness.
Xu Yinyu was momentarily stunned. “White is softer. Since you’re going to talk business, you can’t be outmatched in aura. I recommend black.”
Yu Shujin smiled. “But you seem quite satisfied with this white one.”
How could Xu Yinyu not be satisfied? Firstly, the person wearing the suit was a perfect clothes hanger. Fans rated her as “the Creator’s New Noble,” with a standard nine-head body proportion, easily mastering any clothing style.
Secondly, the value of this white custom-made suit was immense. Not only was the cut perfect, but the material was luxurious, made from Italian superfine virgin wool interwoven with mulberry silk. When sunlight fell on it, one could see flowing light on the fabric. There were also exquisite pearl cufflinks at the wrists.
Not a single detail was imperfect, and every part was stunning.
