Chapter 25: Rescue – Calculation and Sincerity
Xu Yinyu was far from being as calm as she appeared.
Her back was soaked with cold sweat. Her twisted fingertips trembled and ached from repeated fumbling and exertion.
The rough ropes had already deeply constricted her delicate, pale skin, and even the smallest movement now brought a burning pain.
Xu Yinyu’s head was slightly bowed, her long hair falling over her neck. Concealed by the damp strands, she was busy touching the utility knife with her fingertips while surveying the surrounding arrangement and facilities.
Meanwhile, Shen Nianyan stood before the massive floor-to-ceiling window, looking down at the bustling city being washed by the downpour. Her expression was calm, only betraying a cruel greed when closely scrutinized.
Even Yu Shujin’s reaction was beyond her expectation.
Shen Nianqing sat in front of the control console on the high floor. The cold light of the screens reflected her placid face.
She seemed oblivious to the anxiety and tension in the room and utterly unaffected by the disadvantageous stalemate. Her scar-covered fingers rapidly tapped on the keyboard, erasing and concealing the crimes they had committed, bit by bit.
At the same time, she was monitoring special movements across the building, silently keeping everything under control.
In contrast to her two calm sisters, Shen Nianbai was anxious like a trapped, restless animal, pacing back and forth in front of Xu Yinyu.
Occasionally, when her gaze fell upon Xu Yinyu, the undisguised, repulsive desire for violence grew more apparent.
Xu Yinyu finally secured the utility knife. She met Shen Nianyan’s cold, wet gaze, which felt like an insidious snake sliding across her neck.
“It seems Boss Yu has chosen her empire over the innocent, pitiful, and deeply affectionate Miss Xu.” Sweet talk concealing daggers was the most venomous provocation.
Xu Yinyu flicked open the knife cover, feigning heartbreaking sobs to make Shen Nianyan relax, while diligently and minutely sawing the ropes on her wrist.
Shen Nianyan thought she had struck Xu Yinyu’s weak spot and continued, “I heard that Yu Shujin virtually gutted the Su family because of you. Is that true?”
Xu Yinyu swallowed hard, looking at Shen Nianyan with wariness. She didn’t understand how the Shen family, located far in S City, knew things she herself didn’t.
Yet Yu Shujin never spoke of such things to her.
Unfortunately, this was not the time for sentimentality; her life was in the hands of the person before her.
“She never tells me these things,” Xu Yinyu muffled.
Shen Nianyan raised an eyebrow. “Not telling you isn’t necessarily a sign of contempt.”
Just then, Shen Nianqing, staring at the screen, calmly reported, “Eldest Sister, Yu Shujin’s car has entered the three-kilometer radius and is heading this way.”
The corners of Shen Nianyan’s mouth slowly curled into a determined smile. She said to Xu Yinyu, “Miss Xu, your lover hasn’t given up on you, even though the cost is indeed a bit high. You should be very happy.”
Xu Yinyu’s heart pounded. She was stunned, a trace of confusion flashing in her eyes. Didn’t I say she didn’t need to come?
The utility knife in her hand slipped, instantly tearing the skin on her hand.
“Nianbai, take Miss Xu downstairs.” Shen Nianyan’s gaze moved away from Xu Yinyu, and the smile on her lips grew wider. “I can finally get the latest biotechnology. The glorious Shen Group will finally live up to expectations.”
Shen Nianbai roughly yanked Xu Yinyu up from the floor, squeezed her wrist, a hint of ambiguous familiarity in her expression. “Come on, your benefactor must be dying to see you. We can’t let her wait.”
Xu Yinyu cried out in pain from the dragging. Her eyes were red. She struggled, trying to escape from Shen Nianbai’s grip, but was held tightly by an arm like an iron clamp.
Xu Yinyu was hurt. She covered her tear-filled, luminous eyes—those eyes that sparked desire in anyone who saw them.
The strength in Shen Nianbai’s hands subconsciously eased. She tugged at the raised fabric on Xu Yinyu’s waist. “Pretty people should wear their clothes properly.”
Xu Yinyu’s waist was slender, fair, and narrow. When Shen Nianbai’s cold, calloused fingers explored it, she couldn’t help but shrink back. “Don’t touch me.”
“Nianbai,” Shen Nianyan, clearly noticing Xu Yinyu’s condition, reminded her in a deep voice. “Stop being mischievous.”
Shen Nianbai smiled, suppressing the dissatisfaction in her heart. “Eldest Sister, I know my limits.”
Xu Yinyu was pulled by her wrist, which was clamped behind her back by Shen Nianbai, and could only hastily follow the steps of the person in front.
Just as they were about to pull Xu Yinyu into the elevator, the entire building was suddenly deafened by a piercing alarm.
Almost instantly, the flashing lights went out, and the entire hall plunged into darkness.
The moment Shen Nianyan realized what was happening, she immediately warned Shen Nianbai, “Nianbai, don’t let her run away.”
But it was already too late. Xu Yinyu seized the opportunity, used the utility knife to cut the last rope, forcefully pushed Shen Nianbai away, broke free from her control, and ran outwards non-stop.
“Damn it!” Shen Nianbai angrily chased after Xu Yinyu. “Stop right there!”
I need to see Yu Shujin one more time.
However, Shen Nianbai’s physical strength was too formidable. With a sweep of her long arm, she clamped Xu Yinyu’s waist to her chest.
Her lips were close to Xu Yinyu’s ear, listening to the other’s frantic heartbeat—due to intense physical exertion or perhaps lingering fear—as her chest violently heaved.
She spoke with a sinister tone, “Miss Xu, why are you running?”
Xu Yinyu desperately clawed at Shen Nianbai’s hands. “Let go! Let me go!”
But Shen Nianbai was immersed in her own world, speaking with a chilling tone. “You really scared me. You ran so fast, I almost didn’t catch you.”
Shen Nianbai’s lips brushed against Xu Yinyu’s earlobe.
Xu Yinyu’s eyes widened in shock. The two hands wrapped around her waist moved up and down her body. Her voice was broken and incoherent. “What are you doing!”
“Are you afraid?” Shen Nianbai smirked, her tone suddenly lowering. “If you try to escape again, I’ll take you right here.”
Shen Nianbai was about to say more when she suddenly tackled Xu Yinyu to the side, sprawling on the ground.
A bullet grazed Shen Nianbai’s earlobe.
A drop of blood fell into her hand.
Shen Nianbai pulled Xu Yinyu behind a nearby trash bin, leaning out to see who the intruder was. Unfortunately, the building’s power hadn’t been restored, and she could only see a dark silhouette.
“Boss Yu?” Shen Nianbai probed.
“Boss Yu is willing to calculate against us to avoid signing the agreement. That’s a bit petty.”
“A-Yu?” Yu Shujin, wearing night-vision goggles, tentatively asked.
“Stop babbling like a mouse over there,” Xu Ruoying spoke up. “You’ve schemed against Yu Shujin so many times in the dark, and the moment she acts in self-defense, you blow up. So sneaky and weak.”
Yu Shujin covered Xu Ruoying’s mouth.
“Shut up!” Shen Nianbai clamped her hand around Xu Yinyu’s neck and threatened cruelly, “Boss Yu, do you want to watch the person you love die right in front of you, little by little, because of your choice?”
Shen Nianbai sneered. “Put down your weapon. We’ll negotiate at the table.”
“Shen Nianbai, do you think we came unprepared this time?” Yu Shujin said calmly, gradually increasing the weight of her threat.
“I have recovered the surveillance footage of your kidnapping. The esteemed Third Daughter of the Shen family engaging in kidnapping—if that were posted online, I wonder how many people would still be willing to trust and invest in the Shen Group.”
Shen Nianbai’s expression remained unchanged. “Go ahead and post it. Our Shen Group doesn’t bother with such trivial matters.”
Yu Shujin sneered, her eyes growing tenser, but her voice remained calm and steady. “Fine, then we will follow you to the conference room to negotiate.”
“You come alone,” Shen Nianbai repeated.
The moment the words left her mouth, the lights exploded like glittering stars in the building. Shen Nianbai’s eyes, adjusted to the darkness, were momentarily blinded by the sudden brightness.
Using that one second, Yu Shujin focused her grip on the gun and fired a tranquilizer dart.
When Shen Nianbai’s vision returned, everything was white. Her hands, which tried desperately to clutch Xu Yinyu’s neck, couldn’t hold on. All strength suddenly vanished from her body, and she ultimately collapsed to the ground.
Yu Shujin quickly ran to the collapsed Xu Yinyu, tightly holding her in her arms.
Xu Yinyu, held firmly against Yu Shujin, finally let her tightly wound nerves relax. A sense of exhaustion washed over her. Her legs felt heavy as lead, and the tears of relief and fear burst forth.
She willingly leaned into Yu Shujin’s embrace, instinctively seeking a safe place and eagerly looking for the familiar warmth.
“It’s alright, A-Yu. It’s alright,” Yu Shujin scooped her up directly, comforting her gently, and quickly tried to leave.
Xu Ruoying ‘tsk-ed’ twice, her eyes dark. She exchanged a glance with Yu Shujin.
“Handle the cleanup,” Yu Shujin reminded her as she passed by Xu Ruoying.
“Don’t worry, Boss Yu,” Xu Ruoying enunciated slowly, challenging Yu Shujin’s psychological bottom line.
Xu Yinyu wrapped her arms around Yu Shujin’s neck. Her slow heart rate began to pick up again. The heavy, suppressed memories of the past were deliberately forgotten as she escaped from the jaws of this kidnapping.
This person before her would disregard everything to come to her side.
This sincere affection surged forth and covered all the suppression she had felt before, like an overflowing flood.
Leaving only a fiercely beating attachment in her heart.
“Shujin,” Xu Yinyu’s eyes were clear and bright, like a shining lamp in the dark, rainy night, sincere and passionate, making the guilty person afraid to look directly.
Making the person with a secret afraid to look up.
Yu Shujin softly responded, yet her eyes dared not meet Xu Yinyu’s.
“What’s wrong, A-Yu? Are you uncomfortable somewhere?”
“You look so handsome today, the way you held the gun,” Xu Yinyu praised, weakly but with deep admiration.
Yu Shujin’s face flushed slightly, even visible in the darkness. She countered, “Just the way I held the gun?”
Xu Yinyu’s eyes curved with a smile, the amber, bright pupils holding the moonlight. “Thank you for coming to save me today, Shujin, and thank you for forgiving me.”
“Seeing as I put so much effort into being a hero and saving the beauty today, how about you offer yourself to me, A-Yu?” The tail end of Yu Shujin’s voice was like a hook, charming all living beings.
It effortlessly won Xu Yinyu’s heart again.
Xu Yinyu thought she had finally found good fortune in disaster, surviving the fierce storm and long dampness of her seventeenth year.
Finally, she was about to welcome the clearing skies after the rain.
She buried her head deep into Yu Shujin’s shoulder and answered softly, muffledly.
Upon hearing this, a flicker of genuine happiness shone in Yu Shujin’s calculated, shadowy eyes.
She seriously promised Xu Yinyu in her heart that she must be good to A-Yu from now on, truly, exceptionally good.
