After Being Reborn, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessed - Chapter 111
An Yu ran out of the hospital room and stood in the corridor for quite a while, calming herself down so that her face was no longer flushed. Her mind was still somewhat fuzzy, but she could roughly think things through.
She decided to sit on a bench outside the ward, resting her chin on her hand as she pondered.
Lin Yongfeng and his son had committed so many crimes—once evidence was found, they would certainly be brought to justice. The question now was how to get information from Zhao Su’nan, since she didn’t even know what this person looked like.
At just eighteen, An Yu felt helpless for the second time, unsure how to find her.
“An Yu, you came to see Xiao Lin so early?” A voice suddenly came from beside her. She turned to see the deputy director standing not far away, greeting her.
An Yu remembered something at that moment—Lin Duxi had mentioned that Lin Yongfeng and his son had once caused trouble at the orphanage, and Zhao Su’nan and the deputy director had been present at that time.
“Deputy Director, do you know Zhao Su’nan?” An Yu asked tentatively.
The deputy director was caught off guard by the question, but then seemed to remember and sighed. “Xiao Lin must have told you. Zhao Su’nan used to volunteer at our orphanage. Later, her husband caused trouble here, so she stopped coming.”
“And where is she now?”
“She’s probably at home. Given her husband’s temper, she can hardly go out,” the deputy director sighed again, her gaze on the hospital room filled with affection. “You’ve come to see Xiao Lin, right? Then I’ll go in first.”
An Yu nodded, got up, and bid her goodbye. She then headed toward her parents’ ward, where she encountered the butler, Wen Zhenhe, who had also rushed over.
“Miss, your father and mother have woken up. Do you want to see them?” he asked.
An Yu walked quickly to the window of the ward. She saw An Huaili and Yu Yingzhen sitting up in bed, looking much better than before.
She shook her head. “Let them rest,” she said, then turned to the butler and walked with him to the side of the corridor.
“Butler, can you do me a favor?” An Yu asked softly.
“Miss, no need for formalities. Just tell me,” he replied.
An Yu briefly explained some of the things Lin Duxi had encountered, but she didn’t mention seeing Lin Duxi at the hospital.
“Zhao Su’nan is Lin Yongfeng’s wife, and she has long suffered domestic abuse. She should be able to provide us with leads,” An Yu said.
The butler frowned. “Don’t worry too much about this, Miss. They’ve committed so many crimes—once the evidence is found, they won’t be so brazen. But… should we tell your father and mother?”
An Yu looked again through the window at them, then shook her head after a while. “No. Right now, what they need is rest. Knowing about this will only worry them unnecessarily. Let’s first contact Zhao Su’nan and gather evidence.”
The butler nodded and left.
An Yu watched her resting parents, but her brows furrowed unconsciously, her heart sinking like a stone dropped into a bottomless lake.
After the heartbreak and worry of meeting Lin Duxi, she became increasingly aware of the difficulties in their love—parental opposition, meddling relatives, and Lin Duxi’s life-threatening past. She truly had to think about what to do.
Although she had told Lin Duxi in the ward that she was still angry, the moment she saw her at the hospital, all her anger had already dissipated with Lin Duxi’s frailty.
She simply could not ignore Lin Duxi’s presence. She knew she still liked her, and this feeling hadn’t diminished over the past few days—it had only grown, threatening to overflow from the lake of her heart.
An Yu let out a deep sigh.
From then on, whenever she was at the hospital, she always prepared two portions of food: one to eat in front of her parents and the other to deliver to Lin Duxi after leaving her parents’ ward.
Every time Lin Duxi saw her, she smiled, and her health gradually improved day by day.
The butler’s information network was faster than An Yu and Lin Duxi had imagined. Neighbors next to Lin Yongfeng’s parents, having endured the two father-and-son duo’s misdeeds for too long, had spilled everything when asked.
An Yu’s people briefly contacted Zhao Su’nan while Lin Yongfeng went out to buy alcohol, obtaining a lot of evidence. Lin Yongfeng had now been taken into police custody.
So during another moment of feeding Lin Duxi porridge, An Yu told her about the situation.
Lin Duxi was first stunned, her eyes seemingly unable to respond at once, then slightly trembled as she held onto one of An Yu’s wrists.
An Yu set down her bowl, brushing the stray hair from Lin Duxi’s face behind her ear. Lin Duxi leaned in, hugging her, and buried her face in her neck, muttering, “That’s great.”
The dark cloud that had hovered over her heart lifted, and Lin Duxi felt her tense heart suddenly relax, leaving her slightly dazed.
An Yu was happy too, but she had something more important to discuss—university application deadlines were approaching. Lin Duxi had never mentioned this before, either forgetting or having other reasons for not saying anything.
Now that An Yu would not go abroad, naturally she wanted to be close to the school Lin Duxi had applied to.
“Which university did you apply to after the results came out?” An Yu asked.
Lin Duxi lowered her gaze to the blanket, and An Yu immediately sensed something was wrong.
“You didn’t forget to apply, did you?” An Yu asked in shock.
Lin Duxi finally looked up, her clear eyes filled with sincere affection. “I chose the same university; I haven’t changed it.”
She had considered changing it, since Lin Yongfeng and his son knew where she applied and might come after her for money, but she thought of the promise she had made to An Yu that day in the ward. Her anxious heart was reassured.
For some reason, An Yu felt her own tension ease. She began to act shy, likely from years spent with Lin Duxi, the closeness between them restored, though neither mentioned what had happened that day.
Thinking of this, she pretended to hesitate: “I still don’t know which university I’ll apply to. I did exceptionally well on this exam, so I don’t know what to do.”
“So indecisive,” she said, tapping her fingers while sneaking glances at Lin Duxi.
Lin Duxi understood exactly what she meant and spoke plainly.
“You can study the major you like in the university you love.”
An Yu raised her eyebrows. “Really? How come I don’t know which school I like?”
Lin Duxi reached for her hand, interlacing her fingers with hers. An Yu symbolically struggled a little, then let go.
“I remember everything you said, An Yu. Of course, I also have my own selfish reasons,” Lin Duxi said, holding their intertwined hands tightly, smiling bitterly.
“I know you haven’t forgiven me yet. I deserve the sadness I caused you, but I want to stay by your side. Whatever you ask me to do, I’ll do. I don’t want to leave you again.”
Her voice was soft, each word sinking deeply into An Yu’s heart, leaving an indelible mark.
An Yu felt a whirlwind of emotions and spoke in a husky voice, trembling slightly: “If I don’t tell you which university I’m applying to… or if I pretend to agree to this one but actually choose another, what would you do?”
Lin Duxi froze, then smiled softly, a hidden sadness and bitterness flooding toward An Yu.
“Then I’ll come find you,” she said.
Her tone was calm, almost like casual conversation between friends, yet it was incredibly resolute.
An Yu’s heart seemed to be struck hard. She knew Lin Duxi wasn’t just agreeing casually—she truly would do it, and probably more wildly than she imagined.
“What if you can’t find me?” An Yu pressed further.
Lin Duxi looked up, her dark eyes locking onto An Yu’s, full of deep, sorrowful emotion. She curved her lips and said warmly, “How could I not find you? I will always find you.”
An Yu was stunned. Something wild and uncontrollable surged in her heart, leaving her speechless, just staring at her.
Lin Duxi’s gaze remained gentle, as if it had never changed. Though she usually appeared cool and distant, in front of An Yu, that coolness never appeared—only a flowing tenderness that An Yu could not resist.
Under Lin Duxi’s soft gaze, An Yu nodded in a daze, not even realizing what she had agreed to.
“Good,” Lin Duxi’s heart jumped. “Good what? An Yu, what did you say?”
An Yu snapped back to reality. “You heard wrong. I didn’t say anything.” She quickly turned away, pulling her hand back.
Seeing her like this, Lin Duxi assumed she was acting tsundere again and didn’t press further. An Yu’s reluctant agreement was already enough for her.
“Alright, I heard wrong,” Lin Duxi said obediently.
An Yu immediately felt a pang of regret. She looked into Lin Duxi’s clear eyes, where only she was reflected, as if Lin Duxi herself belonged to her.
Her thoughts churned in her throat and turned into another statement:
“Once you recover and leave the hospital, let’s not contact each other too much.”
Lin Duxi froze. A mist quickly clouded her eyes as her heart, which had just relaxed, was suddenly gripped painfully, making it hard to maintain her composure.
But An Yu quickly finished her sentence.
“I mean… my parents don’t like me dating. So let’s talk about this after school starts.” She saw Lin Duxi’s reaction and quickly added, worriedly watching her.
Lin Duxi recalled the conversation with An Yu’s parents and felt her tension release. She couldn’t help but laugh at herself.
An Yu’s words clearly conveyed her choice, and both understood perfectly.
“Alright, we’ll do as you say, An Yu,” Lin Duxi said with a gentle smile. Freed from worry, she appeared even more relaxed and carefree, her smile full of love for the person in front of her.
