- Chapter 112 - IF Timeline 4
An Yu’s cheeks heated up under the intense and unguarded affection in her eyes. She quickly turned her head to avoid looking at Lin Duxi, but the tip of her ear, visible through her long hair, betrayed her emotions.
“Don’t agree to me without thinking. This is a very serious matter,” An Yu stammered slightly, trying to make the atmosphere between them feel less intimate.
Seeing the pink tip of her ear, Lin Duxi’s heart softened even more. “I haven’t acted thoughtlessly,” she said seriously.
An Yu didn’t know what to say. How was it that everything this person said sounded like a love confession—so unfair!
If she couldn’t resist her, could she at least avoid her?
She turned her head to look at Lin Duxi, intending to scold her for speaking so gently, but when her gaze met the clear, faintly bright eyes, she froze, her breath caught.
She hurriedly stood up, clasping her hands behind her back, forgetting all the words she wanted to say. The only thing she could manage was: “I… I understand. Then see you when school starts!”
After saying that, An Yu hurriedly left the hospital room, leaving behind only the lingering warmth by her side.
Lin Duxi looked down at her palm; the warmth seemed to slowly fade. She clenched her fist, holding onto the last bit of heat, a faint smile on her lips.
As An Yu had hoped, after informing their parents, there were no objections, and An Yu received the acceptance letter from the school.
On the first day of college, An Yu’s parents drove her to school. She obediently chatted with them along the way, but once they left, her excitement gradually faded.
After unpacking all her belongings, An Yu wandered the campus aimlessly, holding her phone, which was still on the “Add Lin Duxi as a friend” page.
Lin Duxi’s university was right next to hers, and her semester started a few days earlier—a fact An Yu had learned from Lin Duxi’s school website.
The past two months had passed with almost no communication, let alone face-to-face meetings. Saying she didn’t miss her would have been a lie.
An Yu couldn’t help but stop and lean against the roadside, rubbing her forehead. The last time they had chatted in the hospital, she had almost fled. She had no idea how to start the first conversation with Lin Duxi.
Moreover, she was still angry at Lin Duxi.
Taking a deep breath, An Yu exited the phone interface.
Tonight, if Lin Duxi didn’t contact her first, she would—she would…
She would take the initiative to contact Lin Duxi.
With a plan in mind, An Yu returned to her dorm to rest. She happened to meet her roommates and greeted them.
Her roommates were very friendly. After some chatting, An Yu decided to go out to eat with them and also check out Lin Duxi’s school.
It was mealtime, and the campus was much busier than in the morning. While walking with her roommates, lost in thoughts about what Lin Duxi might be doing, she unknowingly arrived at the school gate.
“Wow, that girl is so beautiful!” one roommate suddenly exclaimed.
“Really, she’s gorgeous. She’s not from our school, right?” another sighed.
“Why?”
“She’s wearing military training clothes. It’s the start of school—how could anyone be in training uniform here? She must be from the neighboring school visiting someone.”
An Yu’s heart skipped a beat. She instinctively followed her roommates’ gaze and saw Lin Duxi in the distance, glancing around before turning her gaze, coincidentally meeting An Yu’s.
In that instant, her speculation became reality—her longed-for person was right in front of her. In that fleeting moment, the clear, radiant eyes bloomed with a smile, falling directly onto An Yu’s heart.
Lin Duxi wore the military training uniform, her hair tied up, ponytail tucked under her cap, stray strands pinned behind her ears, revealing flawless cheeks. She looked sharp and eye-catching, exuding a cool aura, but her eyes were filled with endless gentleness.
Seeing An Yu, Lin Duxi stepped forward.
“Ah Yu,” Lin Duxi said softly with a warm smile. “Congratulations on starting school.”
It had been a long time since she had seen Lin Duxi, and she looked even more beautiful, yet her gentleness was reserved solely for An Yu. An Yu couldn’t help thinking this, then turned her head to act coy.
“Who even says ‘Happy first day of school’?”
Lin Duxi was momentarily stunned, then chuckled. She reached out and gently shook An Yu’s shirt hem. “I misspoke. So, shall we go eat together?”
Hearing this, An Yu looked at her roommates, who, understanding, waved goodbye.
An Yu: “…” She hadn’t even spoken yet.
Once her roommates left, it was just the two of them. An Yu glanced at Lin Duxi, still in her camouflage training uniform, frowning slightly.
“You’re still in training. Will there be enough time for lunch?”
Lin Duxi took the initiative to hold her hand and pull her along. “Of course not, so we have to hurry.”
An Yu’s hand warmed slightly in hers, but she didn’t want to let go. It had been so long since she had seen Lin Duxi. The shock of seeing her dissipated, leaving only endless joy.
“Why didn’t you message me to come see me? You just waited here?” she asked.
Lin Duxi turned her head, smiling. “I wanted to tell you, but I couldn’t reach you, so I thought I’d try coming here. Seems my luck was good today.”
An Yu checked her phone—sure enough, there was a recent friend request from Lin Duxi. She said nothing, but her finger secretly tapped ‘accept.’
They had lunch at a small restaurant near the school. Lin Duxi’s training schedule was tight, so before they could even talk much, she had to leave.
Watching Lin Duxi go, An Yu looked at the chat interface on her phone. The surreal feeling finally dissipated.
She held the phone, stroking Lin Duxi’s avatar on the screen, heart fluttering uncontrollably.
She wanted to kiss her, desperately. From the moment she saw Lin Duxi today, the thought filled her mind incessantly, unable to be shaken.
After this, Lin Duxi came to see An Yu almost every day for meals. Although brief, each time she smiled, her dark eyes lingering with warmth and affection, never mentioning their reconciliation.
Had she truly forgotten?
An Yu furrowed her brows, waves of complex emotions hitting her heart. She couldn’t help but sigh.
Earlier, she had hinted at reconciliation, but Lin Duxi hadn’t responded, leaving An Yu doubting herself.
She scolded herself inwardly, getting thoroughly frustrated.
On Lin Duxi’s last day of military training, An Yu went secretly to watch her performance.
For some reason, her steps slowed outside a flower shop. When she realized it, her hands were holding a bouquet of roses.
Looking at the flowers, she decided to hold them safely in her arms.
The playground was lively, the loudspeakers almost tearing the sky with noise. Listening to the announcer, An Yu couldn’t focus on anything else. Her eyes stayed fixed on that striking figure in the lineup, watching her disciplined expression, precise movements, and her heart surged along with hers.
It seemed Lin Duxi could always move her heart so easily. An Yu unconsciously tightened her grip on the roses, looking at her on stage, suddenly realizing something.
After the performance, when Lin Duxi finished showering at noon, she saw An Yu’s message on her phone, her heart instinctively tightening, steps quickening.
Arriving at the agreed meeting place, Lin Duxi scanned around and saw An Yu on a bench. A smile appeared in her eyes as she walked over.
As soon as Lin Duxi approached, An Yu stood up. When Lin Duxi reached her side, An Yu handed over the flowers.
Lin Duxi froze, momentarily stunned, forgetting to reach for them.
An Yu leaned slightly forward, “Your performance was great today.”
Her eyelashes trembled, her chestnut eyes reflecting Lin Duxi’s figure, like a shallow lake gently enveloping her.
Lin Duxi reached for the roses, and when her hands touched the stems and leaves, she felt her heartbeat almost breaking through her chest.
“Ah Yu… you came to see me?” she asked, stunned.
Seeing her like this, An Yu pulled her into her arms, “I came to see my girlfriend’s performance. What’s so strange about that?”
Girlfriend!
Lin Duxi’s heart leapt, pupils shaking violently. She hugged An Yu’s waist tightly, as if she wanted to merge with her entirely.
“You… what did you just say?” Lin Duxi felt dizzy, fearing she’d misheard.
An Yu: “Nothing. Let’s go eat; you’ve been busy all morning and must be hungry.”
Lin Duxi lifted her head, dissatisfied, but when she looked at An Yu, the wet eyes glimmered with burning affection, emotions overwhelming An Yu’s heart.
An Yu’s breath caught. She hugged Lin Duxi, whispering in her ear, “I said, I want to go eat with my girlfriend.”
The trailing words fell into Lin Duxi’s ears with her breath. Her emotions surged, her heartbeat deafening.
Lin Duxi’s voice choked as she spoke, unable to hide her trembling: “Ah Yu…”
An Yu grasped her hand first, holding it firmly as she always had, never letting go.
“Alright, let’s go. I’ve booked the restaurant, and the time’s almost up.”
Lin Duxi swallowed the words she wanted to say. In action, all words were meaningless.
She intertwined her fingers with An Yu’s, squeezing tightly.
“Okay.”
