After Being Reborn, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessed - Chapter 110
Outside, the cicadas were still chirping loudly. The patient had opened the window, and a breeze slipped through the gap, carrying a faint warmth that brushed against the two of them, rustling the edges of their clothes.
Even though they had been apart for less than a week, the relationship between An Yu and Lin Duxi had changed drastically—so much so that An Yu didn’t even know how to face her.
Lin Duxi’s eyes were still as clear and captivating as ever, seemingly holding a whirlpool within them, making it impossible to look away. And now, at this moment, those same eyes were gazing at her with a gentle, lingering tenderness.
An Yu tried to avert her gaze, attempting to resist looking into them, but Lin Duxi’s eyes, as if carrying heat, burned onto her. She felt stiff and awkward, neither able to sit nor stand properly, mechanically feeding Lin Duxi some porridge.
Her nervousness made her appear cold and distant to anyone watching, like someone being forced into obedience, but no one could see that her hands were trembling as she held the bowl.
Lin Duxi noticed.
After stiffly feeding her, An Yu hurriedly put the bowl down. Even though it was just a plastic bowl, it felt unbearably heavy in her hands. She threw it into the trash can under the bed, suddenly feeling empty-handed, unsure of what to do next.
Should she speak? But what could she say? They had already broken up—how could she even begin to talk? Ridiculing her ex was impossible for her. She knew she still liked Lin Duxi and therefore didn’t want to stay there any longer.
It had been Lin Duxi who ended the relationship, and now coming to feed her porridge in the middle of the night already felt foolish. Angrily, An Yu sat sideways beside Lin Duxi, letting her left hand hang naturally at her side.
Then, something soft and warm landed in her palm. An Yu’s body stiffened, her spine tingling, unable to move.
The hand resting in hers, however, didn’t hesitate. Lin Duxi’s pale, delicate fingers entwined with hers, locking their ten fingers together.
An Yu’s chest tightened. She turned sharply, her eyes red. She wanted to shout in protest, but tears quickly gathered in her eyes.
Biting her lip, she tried to appear unyielding. She shook her left hand with all her strength, trying to free it, but Lin Duxi’s hand held firm. The more she shook, the weaker her attempts became.
“Lin Duxi, what do you mean? Weren’t you the one who said we were breaking up?!” An Yu’s emotions surged like a tidal wave, finally spilling out.
“Weren’t you the one who said we should break up? Then why are you looking at that bracelet? What do you mean by this? Are you playing with me?!” Her low voice was hoarse, the frustration and confusion finally breaking free.
That morning, many visitors were in the hospital. Their voices drew the attention of several nearby people. Lin Duxi turned to shield An Yu from view, then lifted her in an embrace.
An Yu resisted the hug, but Lin Duxi held her tighter. Eventually, the IV needle on her hand bulged, startling An Yu, who quickly called the nurse.
Throughout the IV replacement, Lin Duxi barely paid attention, her eyes fixed on An Yu, full of comforting warmth, gradually calming An Yu’s chaotic emotions.
An Yu turned her head to avoid Lin Duxi’s gaze, but her eyes kept drifting to her hand.
After the nurse finished, Lin Duxi pressed on her wound as instructed. An Yu stepped forward to take over, whispering hoarsely:
“I want a reasonable explanation for all this. And also about the vice principal saying you had a fever—what really happened?”
She didn’t confess her feelings, nor mention the breakup, keeping her tone cold.
Lin Duxi, however, couldn’t help but smile.
During her coma, she had truly thought she was going to die. When she was brought to the hospital, she heard An Yu’s voice. At first, she thought it was a hallucination, but as their conversation became clearer, it reached her ears, bringing warmth to her.
Suddenly, she realized she didn’t want to break up. No matter what Lin Yongfeng said, no matter what threats there were, she didn’t want to part with An Yu for no reason.
During those few days after their breakup, she felt detached from the world, empty in her chest, just a shell. But hearing An Yu’s voice brought light back into her life.
An Yu had come to see her, and she didn’t want to be separated again.
So Lin Duxi spoke, briefly summarizing what had happened during that time but omitting the parts involving An Yu’s parents and the events after the breakup.
Even with just a few words, An Yu’s emotions, which had just begun to settle, surged again. By the end of Lin Duxi’s explanation, tears streamed down her face.
“They’re not even human… not even scum deserves to be called that!” An Yu clenched her fists, nails digging into her palms, her eyes red.
Lin Duxi silently held her hands, gently massaging her palms to ease the pain.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” An Yu’s anger subsided under Lin Duxi’s touch, but she pouted. “Aren’t we a couple? Why didn’t you tell me?”
Lin Duxi looked down at their intertwined hands, her gaze heavy, before raising her eyes to meet An Yu’s.
“He said that if he couldn’t get my money, he’d come after you. I didn’t want them to threaten you, nor did I want you to get into trouble…”
“That’s not trouble!” An Yu’s voice rose sharply, clearly angry.
“You think our relationship means we can’t tell each other these things? And that’s why you chose to break up?” An Yu looked at a nearby medical chart, partly amused by her own frustration.
“So, when you made that decision, you were feverish and delirious?”
Lin Duxi nodded. “Those days, I had a fever.”
An Yu fell silent, torn between pain and heartache, staring at Lin Duxi, who looked fragile and obedient. She didn’t know whether to scold her or feel pity, eventually swallowing her anger.
An Yu turned away, sulking quietly.
Soon, someone touched her shoulder. She looked back to see Lin Duxi blinking with innocent eyes.
“Don’t be angry at me, Ah Yu. If you’re angry, be angry at me—I made you sad.” Her tone was full of self-reproach, breaking An Yu’s heart.
An Yu exhaled deeply, glancing at Lin Duxi.
“Yes, I am angry. Thinking about it now makes me angry,” she said. But in her heart, the stronger emotion was concern. The things Lin Duxi had endured in those days had been unimaginable.
Lin Duxi lowered her head, full of self-blame, holding An Yu’s hand against her chest. Through the fabric, An Yu could feel her heart beating intensely.
Lin Duxi looked up, wet eyes fixed on her, the depth reflecting only her. Her pale ears tinged with red. Her lips moved:
“Do whatever you want with me, as long as you’re not angry.”
Even though she hadn’t done anything wrong, An Yu felt herself burning from head to toe. She froze in place as Lin Duxi leaned in, resting her head on An Yu’s shoulder, taking in the scent of her hair.
“As long as you’re not angry.”
An Yu’s mind was in chaos, her hands instinctively syncing with Lin Duxi’s heartbeat.
“It was because I was delirious with a fever that I said all those things. If you’re angry, it’s deserved—it’s my fault. Whatever you want to do, just don’t leave me, please, Ah Yu.”
An Yu felt the warmth against her shoulder, her heart aching with pain.
If her prior anger at the breakup had been furious, learning the truth transformed it into tenderness and helplessness.
Lin Duxi was only 18, the same age as her, yet had endured such hardships, even thinking of her well-being.
An Yu couldn’t help but want to cry. She inhaled deeply, lifting the sobbing Lin Duxi from her shoulder.
Lin Duxi’s eyes were red at the corners, and she looked extremely weak in the hospital gown. When An Yu pulled her out of the warm embrace, she tried to snuggle back in, but An Yu stopped her.
An Yu took out a tissue, gently wiping Lin Duxi’s tears with her pale fingers.
So cute… she wanted to kiss her.
Startled by her own thought, An Yu straightened up and spoke seriously:
“Rest well first. Lin Yongfeng and his son did so many bad things—they’ll be caught. I’ll find the evidence.”
Lin Duxi looked at her, trembling, tears still in her eyes. She was about to say that it was too troublesome, but the thought was swallowed. She had finally calmed An Yu and couldn’t spoil it.
Lin Duxi nodded obediently, lying back on the bed.
“The place they live should have evidence. Lin Yongfeng doesn’t work; most of their expenses come from Zhao Su’nan’s earnings. But that’s not enough. They must have other means,” she said. Alone, she couldn’t uncover the full truth, only the surface details. After a moment, she added:
“Zhao Su’nan is a breakthrough point.”
An Yu nodded and, thinking over Lin Duxi’s words, left the hospital room.
Lin Duxi watched her go until she was out of sight, then finally closed her eyes to rest.
But a few seconds later, the hospital room door opened again. She heard familiar footsteps and opened her eyes.
An Yu had returned, walking to her bedside to adjust her blanket, then fidgeted slightly:
“I didn’t say I’m not angry yet. I haven’t forgiven you—I’m just helping.” She didn’t dare look at Lin Duxi, eyes fixed on the silver bracelet on the cabinet.
Lin Duxi, already melted by An Yu’s softened heart, nodded.
“Mm, I know. It’s normal for Ah Yu to be angry. I’ll try my best to calm you down.”
Though it seemed like a simple sentence, An Yu sensed a deeper meaning and felt her face flush. She quickly looked down, suppressing her racing thoughts.
“I know. I won’t forgive you so easily.” With that, she dashed out of the room, almost forgetting to close the door behind her.
Lin Duxi watched her flee, unable to stop smiling. Her gaze held a tenderness and lingering warmth she hadn’t realized herself, wrapped in the beauty of sun, moon, and stars—reserved only for her.
