After Being Reborn, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessed - Chapter 106
After the filming of “Traveling Together” ended, the two of them returned to their busy work schedules.
Lin Duxi was occupied with preparations for her new drama, while An Yu still had company-arranged business events and variety shows to attend. Their time together became a bit less.
One day, An Yu finished work relatively early. She went home, changed clothes, and immediately drove to the neighborhood where she used to live.
The neighborhood looked exactly the same as before. Fallen leaves covered the ground in a thick layer, and a cold wind rustled them. Elderly people were walking aimlessly with children downstairs.
An Yu wrapped herself tightly in her coat and followed her memory to her old floor. After waiting downstairs for a while, she saw a middle-aged woman approaching from a distance.
The woman was wearing a thick coat and padded shoes. Seeing the thin figure standing downstairs, she was startled, then quickly ran over, blowing out her breath.
“Why do you want to come and look again?” she said as she dug into her pocket and pulled out a set of keys. She muttered to herself, If it weren’t for An Yu, no one would bother to come check after everyone had moved out.
An Yu looked up and silently counted the floors until her gaze landed on the floor she used to live on.
“Landlady, after I moved out, did anyone rent this apartment?”
The landlady handed her the keys and followed her line of sight to the rusty railing.
“Someone did rent it after you left, but they moved out after only a few months. Why do you ask?”
An Yu’s heart skipped a beat. Holding onto the last shred of hope, she asked,
“When I left, I left a box here. Do you remember it?”
The landlady paused, frowned in thought, and then shook her head at An Yu’s expectant look.
“I don’t remember that. I haven’t been here since you moved out, and the previous tenant didn’t mention it either. Maybe it was taken away as trash during the move.”
An Yu’s shoulders slumped. She thanked the landlady and left.
Although she had only arrived with a tiny hope, seeing it dashed left her a little sad.
She parked her car, rested her hands on the steering wheel, and let out a deep sigh.
She calmed herself and thought of Lin Duxi’s eyes, which always curved warmly when looking at her, and couldn’t help but smile.
What am I worrying about? Lin Duxi is with me now. All those past losses and misunderstandings will be smoothed over. I may have lost a painting before, but I can always paint more for Lin Duxi.
Feeling reassured, An Yu happily drove off, stopping by a supermarket to buy some fruits and vegetables.
Later that night, when Lin Duxi returned home from filming, the smell of food immediately greeted her. The familiar aroma made her pause mid-step. In the dim living room light, An Yu’s peaceful sleeping face caught her gaze.
Like a gentle spring breeze melting the ice on a lake, Lin Duxi felt a warm, tingling sweetness spread through her chest.
She stepped lightly to the sofa, and saw the dining table nearby filled with dishes. Her heart melted completely.
Blocking the light, her shadow fell over An Yu. Lin Duxi frowned slightly. An Yu stirred, opening her eyes.
“You’re back,” she said, sitting up to look at Lin Duxi.
Lin Duxi, wearing a fitted sweater with her long hair falling casually, looked even more beautiful. Her hidden deep affection almost spilled out as she spoke.
“Didn’t I tell you to go to sleep first?”
An Yu was momentarily surprised, then started searching the sofa for her phone. “Did I? I didn’t see it.”
She rummaged through her pockets, only to fall into warmth and softness in her arms.
Lin Duxi straddled her legs, holding her tightly around the waist, and leaned down to kiss her. An Yu was initially startled but quickly responded, turning passive into active.
After a long kiss, their foreheads rested together, breathing intermingled, faces flushed in the dim light that seemed to weave a silver thread of intimacy between them.
An Yu smiled and rubbed Lin Duxi’s cheeks, brushing the moisture from her lips with her knuckles. “Hurry up and eat, the food’s already cold.”
Sure enough, the food was cold. They reheated it in the microwave before eating.
“How much longer until your contract ends?” Lin Duxi asked.
An Yu put down her chopsticks, thinking for a moment. “About a month.”
Lin Duxi nodded—one more month.
“What’s wrong?” An Yu asked.
Lin Duxi looked up at her. “Let’s go to the orphanage. We still haven’t fulfilled our promise to Xiaoxiao.”
An Yu’s eyes lit up with a smile. “Sure! Xiaoxiao is so cute, and she really likes you.”
She knew Lin Duxi couldn’t sever her emotional ties to the orphanage, but after what had happened, she hadn’t dared to go back herself. Whether it was helping through Dr. Jiang or assisting in secret, she had avoided returning. Now, with Lin Duxi proactively suggesting a visit, An Yu felt truly happy.
Hearing An Yu’s excited voice, Lin Duxi couldn’t help but smile. “Xiaoxiao likes you a lot too.”
Soon, Lin Duxi had to leave for filming again, and they were apart once more. This time, though, they didn’t communicate constantly but were always responsive when needed.
An Yu’s contract ended shortly after, and she joined a relatively famous entertainment company. Her business events and variety shows became much fewer.
Unknowingly, the bare branches grew new leaves, and their heavy winter coats were replaced with regular clothes. Only then did they realize they had been together for almost a year.
Early one morning, An Yu drove to the airport. Lin Duxi was attending an event abroad, and her flight was scheduled to return today.
An Yu checked her phone to estimate how much longer until Lin Duxi returned. Out of the corner of her eye, however, she noticed the date on the screen and froze.
July 21st.
Her pupils dilated. A memory surged back—she had almost forgotten. It was on July 22nd this year that Lin Ze had pushed her off the terrace.
Seeing the date, she swallowed hard and stared at her phone, lost in recollection, not even knowing when Lin Duxi had gotten into the car.
“What’s wrong?” Lin Duxi, excited to see An Yu after several days, asked as she opened the car door and saw her frozen expression.
Familiar memories arose, and An Yu quickly snapped back to reality, putting away her phone.
“Nothing. You must be tired. Let’s go home and rest.” She touched her nose and prepared to drive.
Even though she quickly hid her phone, Lin Duxi noticed the string of numbers and felt her heart tighten. That date was a time An Yu did not want to recall and a day Lin Duxi had long tried to avoid, engraved deep in her heart.
Lin Duxi said nothing more, and they drove home in silence.
Home. Dinner. Sleep. They woke to July 22nd.
An Yu woke feeling uneasy. She kept checking the date on her phone, her mind uncontrollably replaying the past. Everything felt chaotic.
A slightly cool hand touched her forehead. Turning her head, An Yu saw Lin Duxi’s gentle eyes watching her in the morning light.
“Sleep a little longer,” she whispered softly.
An Yu paused, then nodded and nestled into Lin Duxi’s embrace.
Without speaking, both silently agreed not to mention the day’s events, as if not saying anything would prevent it from ever happening.
The entire day, they did everything together. An Yu had never realized how fast a day could pass, and before she knew it, night fell. Her heart was restless, different from her usual self.
Lin Duxi noticed her unusual mood, her own feelings also turbulent.
That day, neither of them mentioned sleep first.
Finally, when moonlight streamed through the window, they slowly returned to the bedroom, embracing each other. Yet neither truly fell asleep.
The sound of the alarm clock ticked loudly, reverberating in the room, pounding against their eardrums.
Tick, tick, tick…
23:59, 23:59:01… 23:59:58, 23:59:59.
0:00.
Time arrived at July 23rd. Nothing had changed. Everything was as ordinary as before.
An Yu felt the weight that had bound her all day suddenly lift. The heavy stone pressing on her chest finally fell. Before she could relax, she noticed the arms around her tightening, and her shoulder felt the warmth of tears.
An Yu froze, then lowered her head toward the moonlight. She saw Lin Duxi trembling, even her hair quivering slightly.
An Yu’s chest ached. She hugged Lin Duxi tightly, tears welling up in her eyes.
“Nothing happened,” she kissed Lin Duxi’s forehead gently.
Lin Duxi buried herself in An Yu’s neck, brushing away her tears on her clothes, inhaling deeply and murmuring,
“I’m sleepy.”
“Okay, let’s sleep.”
