After Being Reborn, My Ex-Girlfriend Became Obsessed - Chapter 104
The group agreed that the next day they would climb the snowy mountain in front of them. A few of the guests went to buy some necessities, while Lin Duxi and An Yu, unfamiliar with the area, stayed behind at the guesthouse.
The owner of the guesthouse mentioned that the rooftop garden was beautiful. Coincidentally, light snow began to fall outside, so the two of them put on their down jackets and went out to enjoy it.
A thin layer of snow had settled on the benches on the rooftop. An Yu brushed it off and then took out a cream-colored parasol to shield them from the falling snow, pulling Lin Duxi to sit together.
The night was pitch black, and the sparkling snowflakes fell gently in front of them. Lin Duxi and An Yu held hands, quietly listening to the soft sound of snow landing, their moods feeling as though they had been cleansed.
Especially An Yu, who had been extremely busy lately, felt slightly unaccustomed to this sudden serenity. Her mind wandered amidst the snow, scattering her thoughts.
The gentle wind blew the snowflakes around, some falling inside the umbrella. A chill brushed An Yu’s eyes, and she instinctively shook her head to brush away the snowflakes. Out of the corner of her eye, she inadvertently caught sight of Lin Duxi’s profile.
Her scarf covered most of her face, but she remained strikingly beautiful. Even when her expression was neutral, a faint smile on her lips seemed formal, slightly distant, and unapproachable. Stray strands of hair fell across her cream-colored scarf, softening the aloofness, making her appear like a warm, dazzling fire amidst the endless cold night, drawing one’s desire to get closer.
Unknowingly, An Yu’s gaze shifted from the snow to Lin Duxi. She didn’t try to control it, and Lin Duxi naturally noticed this focused attention. Though maintaining her previous posture, the faint blush on her ears revealed her current emotions.
Unable to bear it any longer, Lin Duxi turned her head, her eyes sparkling like the snowflakes swirling in the sky.
“Stop looking at me,” she said, pouting, her ears even redder.
An Yu couldn’t help but laugh. Lin Duxi looked so cute like a fluffed-up little cat. She wanted to comfort her but received a little snarl in return.
“If you keep staring, we’re going back,” Lin Duxi threatened.
An Yu nodded and withdrew her gaze, looking back at the snowy scenery. She noticed Lin Duxi’s hands were still cold, so she placed them in her down jacket pocket to keep them warm.
The cameraman on the side quietly observed the peaceful scene, careful not to disturb the beautiful moment. She couldn’t resist moving her camera to various positions to capture the scene from multiple angles.
The next day, everyone dressed properly and prepared to climb the snowy mountain. Due to the snow, they carried more equipment than usual. The six of them decided to hike halfway and take the cable car to the summit for the remaining distance.
An Yu and Lin Duxi put on their climbing gear, checked each other’s equipment, and then set off with the others.
The light snow from last night continued, slightly obstructing everyone’s view.
Since this climb was not a competition like the one on Bai Mi Mountain but purely for sightseeing, they enjoyed the snow-covered scenery along the way.
Snow pressed down on the branches, occasionally falling on their heads, and their footsteps on the snow made a crisp “crunch, crunch” sound.
An Yu and Lin Duxi had good stamina, staying at the front. Halfway up, some of the guests couldn’t keep up, so they rested and switched to the cable car. An Yu and Lin Duxi rode together.
Once on the cable car again, their moods were very different from before. From summer to winter, from cicadas to white snow, they were now lovers.
“Last time we took the cable car, we were still testing our feelings for each other,” An Yu recalled the cable car ride on Bai Mi Mountain. After getting off, under the streetlights, she had almost been overwhelmed by her feelings for Lin Duxi, but at that time, due to past events and the system, they couldn’t express their hearts to each other.
Lin Duxi, hearing this, also remembered that day—the climb, the pain, being held by An Yu and her warmth. Memories surged like tides, and she recalled a solitary prayer she had made, softening her gaze as she looked at the person beside her, her heart burning.
She realized that a wish she had thought nearly impossible had now come true.
The summit was even colder, with heavier snowfall. Looking down, they saw endless white snow, pure enough to cleanse the heart, as if the entire world had been washed, leaving only the vast white landscape.
Having enjoyed the view, An Yu and Lin Duxi took photos for others and were also asked to take numerous group photos.
Chen Qi had been observing them for some time. After they took a photo for a staff member, she immediately approached with her camera.
“Teacher An, Teacher Lin, can I take a photo of you?” Her eyes shone with the fiery enthusiasm of a devoted fan.
An Yu glanced at the one-kilogram DSLR in her hands and remarked, “You even brought this with you?”
Chen Qi smiled sheepishly. “To take good photos of the scenery, you need professional equipment. Plus, I like taking pictures wherever I go.”
She didn’t mention that she had actually brought it just to capture photos of her favorite couple. The camera was heavy and had almost exhausted her on the long climb.
“Let’s take a photo together; this view is too beautiful to miss,” Chen Qi suggested.
An Yu and Lin Duxi exchanged a glance and then said, “Thank you.”
Standing at the railing on the summit, holding hands in the simplest pose, they matched perfectly with the falling snow, gazing into each other’s eyes with tenderness that could not be contained.
When they posted this photo on social media, it caused a sensation. Being their first photo together online, with perfect composition and expressions, it captured the depth of their feelings. Fans shouted, “We ship them so much!” The photo became one of the “Top Ten Stunning Photos” of An-Lin CP, and Chen Qi was hailed as one of the top two CP fan leaders.
Many fans even used the photo as their phone wallpaper, including Lin Duxi herself.
Later, the group built a bonfire in the guesthouse backyard and chatted. After collecting enough material for the show, An Yu and Lin Duxi returned to their room.
With the snow still falling, they decided to spend time painting. An Yu set up her drawing board, recalling the time Lin Duxi had liked a post from her alternate account. Although embarrassing, she hadn’t deleted the account, but she didn’t plan to post anything new.
She figured that since she was now always with Lin Duxi, the paintings would inevitably be seen by her, and she didn’t want to accidentally reveal anything.
Lin Duxi changed her clothes and walked out in a white long dress, barefoot. With the room’s heating and underfloor heating on, it wasn’t cold.
She walked slowly to the floor-to-ceiling window, quietly watching the falling snow, while An Yu focused on her painting.
When one becomes completely absorbed, they fail to notice the surrounding changes. An Yu sketched quickly, having already outlined the main forms, fully immersed in her work.
Lin Duxi’s gaze gradually shifted from the snow to An Yu, watching her concentrated expression. Memories of her past life’s painting surfaced.
She realized that she hadn’t seen those paintings in An Yu’s room nor heard her mention them.
A surge of emotion suddenly faded, leaving her feeling deflated, like a balloon losing air.
In her previous life, An Yu hadn’t moved houses, so she had received the dusty paintings. This time, An Yu moved next door and became her neighbor, and she hadn’t yet developed feelings again. Those paintings likely hadn’t been kept.
Although she knew it didn’t matter, Lin Duxi couldn’t help feeling a little sad. Those paintings had been a beacon of hope in her previously bleak life, and recalling them now still made her shiver, instinctively rejecting that gray period.
An Yu finished a portion of her painting and looked up to check details, noticing Lin Duxi’s absent-minded expression. Normally so gentle, her eyes now hidden by a shadow of sadness.
An Yu’s heart skipped a beat.
Lin Duxi looked up at her, and in a fleeting moment, the sorrow that tugged at her heart disappeared, replaced by her usual warmth.
“Finished painting?” she asked.
An Yu shook her head, smiling faintly, pretending nothing had happened, though her mood had shifted.
After finishing a painting, An Yu stretched, feeling some back and waist soreness. Lin Duxi walked over and offered her water, her gaze settling on the painting.
Outside the transparent window, snow fell heavily, pressing on branches, while inside, the woman stood in a white long dress, barefoot, tilting her head gently to watch the snow. Her usual aloofness was gone, replaced by a moment of intimacy, like a winter spirit.
This was a painting filled with the artist’s heartfelt emotions, a passionate love bursting forth from the canvas.
Lin Duxi was completely captivated, amazed by An Yu’s intensity of feeling.
She then sat on An Yu’s lap, studying the painting intently, her expression deeply focused.
An Yu looked at her, complicated emotions surfacing. Some words hovered on her lips before she finally spoke:
“This afternoon, when I was painting, I looked up and noticed you seemed a little sad.”
Lin Duxi’s expression shifted for a moment, then returned to her usual calmness.
“Really?” she said.
An Yu noticed her brief hesitation and felt a pang of disappointment.
“Thinking about the past?” she asked gently.
Now that their difficulties had been resolved, the only thing An Yu didn’t know about Lin Duxi was the time after her death. She had asked before but Lin Duxi always answered in ways meant to comfort her. She also knew from fragments that Lin Duxi hadn’t had a good time then.
So An Yu didn’t ask further, but seeing Lin Duxi lost in thought today made her feel certain she was remembering that period. Lin Duxi’s unhappiness made An Yu unhappy too.
Lin Duxi’s eyes darkened slightly. She turned and straddled An Yu, bringing them close, directly facing An Yu’s concerned gaze. She felt even more grateful for the happiness she had now.
“I just remembered… after you left, Uncle Wen came to see me,” she said.
An Yu looked puzzled. “Uncle Wen?”
Lin Duxi nodded and continued, “He gave me a box… inside were your painting sketches.”
The drawings were of me.
