- After Being Forced into a Marriage with My Empress Consort
- Chapter 9 - Invitation: Can He Really Get Kissed Just by Standing There?
Tracy was not seeing this little thing for the first time. The insect artificial intelligence on Bug Star had developed to an unimaginable level. Because females were generally powerful and aggressive while males were far too frail, every male’s protective terminal was connected to the Judgment Mainframe.
Once the stress level around a male exceeded a certain threshold, the avatars of the Judgment Mainframe, these small intelligent spheres, would appear to lead the enforcement team to capture any criminal who dared to harm a male.
This was the reason why females walked on eggshells. Duels between females were controllable. It was a matter of survival of the fittest; if one failed, one simply admitted defeat and licked one’s wounds at home. However, harming a male was a grave crime. If any bug dared to commit it, they were punished strictly, severely, and swiftly.
The little intelligent sphere had clearly triggered its emergency protocol. Based on the manual reports from the earlier enforcement team, this female’s threat level was extremely high. Without a marriage contract and without immunity, he had already committed secondary damage to the male, and the shattered glass shards were proof of this.
The Judgment Mainframe hovered in the air, waiting silently. It had presided over tens of thousands of similar cases. Many males, upon receiving even the slightest injury, would drone on endlessly, demanding that the female be thrown into prison for rehabilitation.
If Tracy had chosen to accuse him, Adonis would have faced imprisonment, and before even entering the female detention center, his military uniform would have been stripped from him.
This was the reason why most males had such notorious reputations. Being near a male was dangerous enough, and falling in love with one was like a moth flying into a flame, a form of suicide.
Every female’s respectful yet distant attitude was simply a form of self-protection.
Adonis’s expression remained unchanged. He still did not offer a defense; he simply turned around to look at the red and blue light dots on the sky screen.
He did not fear prison. With his strength, the guards in those prisons would not dare to mistreat him.
But the hardest part was the three-day wait in the detention center for the verdict. He would be locked in a dark room to reflect on his crimes and provide a confession.
It was a completely enclosed space without light, sound, food, or water. He could only curl up in the corner, waiting for time to stretch into infinity, second by second, until the button clicked, the anti-gravity door opened, and a beam of light shone in. Only then would the confinement end.
But this was not his first time experiencing it.
Adonis bit his tongue and stood straight, waiting for the sentencing.
His back looked somewhat desolate and lonely. When the swarm of enforcement team bugs filled the sky, Tracy felt as though he was standing against the entire world.
Adonis was undoubtedly a powerhouse, but even a powerhouse was as helpless as an ant trying to shake a tree when facing the system.
Tracy glanced at him and touched his terminal.
He knew that Adonis’s impulsive actions would cause him trouble.
Now, his male protective terminal had turned a glaring crimson. This happened because the female’s psychic energy was raging, which triggered the alarm settings.
He had already set the sensitivity of his protective terminal to the lowest level, yet these guys still arrived so quickly.
Tracy still remembered his first day on the First High-Level Star; even when his mood had a slight fluctuation, this little blue sphere would arrive with a long trail of eager females to fuss over him. He truly was not accustomed to it.
It was like wearing a surveillance device on his wrist, and he felt uneasy no matter what he did.
Therefore, he still preferred to use his modified terminal in secret, as surfing the net in the way females did was much more satisfying.
Tracy leaned calmly against the railing and said nonchalantly, “There might have been a slight misunderstanding just now. My consort’s psychic energy is too powerful, so he accidentally broke a piece of glass.”
The night breeze stirred Tracy’s semi-long pink hair. He curved his lips into a smile and met Adonis’s eyes: “I believe he will cover the repair costs for the glass.”
Such a relaxed atmosphere was clearly something neither the females present nor the enforcement team members behind them had expected.
The captain of the enforcement team was Veblen, who had once served in the same legion as Adonis.
He raised his eyebrows and interjected: “I am afraid you are oversimplifying this, my Lord.”
He and Adonis did not get along because Adonis had led him by a narrow margin in every military merit evaluation.
Veblen, a natural-born prodigy, found this unbearable, so he simply quit the legion and chose another path.
The most pleasing thing for him was to see his old rival hit a snag.
He looked Adonis up and down, easily seeing that he had used his armor form.
Using armor form in front of a male? Was he trying to kill someone?
“We have already found a poor victim.”
Veblen waved his hand, and the Wasp who had been thrown out by Adonis was brought up, looking miserable with his arms being held.
His clothing was torn, and his face bore several small cuts from psychic wind blades. The whole bug looked incredibly pathetic.
“I was merely helping the male Lord repair his window, and this female got jealous…” The Wasp did not dare look at Adonis; he tremblingly rolled up his sleeves to show his wounds: “He lost control in an instant and grabbed me, throwing me out of the window!”
Adonis lifted his eyelids, and his cold, sharp gaze shot toward the Wasp, making him shrink back.
“He was nothing but a piece of trash coveting my male.” Adonis said coldly: “What is wrong with me giving him a small punishment?”
“That still requires consideration for the Lord’s feelings.” Veblen cast a look of admiration at Tracy.
The male was still wearing a bathrobe, with no ostentatious decorations on his body or face, yet his streamlined figure and natural beauty could easily capture any female’s attention.
What damn good luck.
Where on earth did Adonis dig up such a beautiful male?
Veblen politely placed his hand over his chest and bowed slightly: “Veblen, Captain of the First High-Level Star’s Upper District Enforcement Team, greets you. I believe this female before you is highly dangerous. As is well known, SSS-level females, once they enter a state of psychic mania, will attack everyone around them indiscriminately.”
“For your safety, we must legally take the perpetrator away. Please provide your understanding and support.”
“And if I do not understand?”
Tracy pulled Adonis over and wrapped his arms around his waist: “I said, my consort and I were flirting. It was this Wasp who disturbed us.”
No one liked having someone barge in when they were trying to have a nice moment with their boyfriend, especially with such unreasonable and excessive requests.
He had not even figured out how they were together, and the other party wanted a threesome?
Tracy did not pin any blame on Adonis, but stood from the perspective of a hotel guest, expressing his dissatisfaction with the maintenance worker’s overstepping.
The Wasp lowered his head deeply, his body trembling.
He had indeed been blinded by pheromones, but the few gulps of cold night air and the stimulation of his brush with death had cleared his head. He felt ashamed of his earlier actions.
Now, all he could pray for was that the male would not pursue the matter.
“Are you saying you are not angry at this female’s jealousy? In fact, you approve of his behavior?” Veblen asked, surprised.
“Of course.” Tracy gripped Adonis’s small finger and toyed with it gently: “This is a reflection of how much he cares about me. Why would I be angry?”
Tracy stroked Adonis’s hand back and forth, still unable to figure out how such slender, beautiful fingers had turned into rigid, razor-sharp scythes earlier.
He truly wanted to study them properly when the other party’s emotions were stable.
Of course, the immediate priority was to get rid of these annoying pests.
“Alright, my consort’s emotions are quite stable now, and he hasn’t made any aggressive moves toward me. This Wasp is also fine. Can you all leave now?”
He flicked his tail, an obvious sign of impatience. The Judgment Mainframe carefully analyzed the male’s emotions; while he was slightly displeased, he was not at the point of hatred.
“Then, has this female threatened you, causing you to be unable to speak the truth?” the Judgment Mainframe asked politely.
“No.” Tracy was able to distinguish between his people and outsiders. In his mind, although this female had arrived in a fit of rage, he was still the consort he had personally chosen. How could he not protect him, only to seek justice for another bug who still looked perfectly fine?
Tracy did not feel it was entirely fair, but in this world, there was only relative closeness and never absolute fairness.
Knowing that Adonis had shown restraint and had not actually harmed the female, Tracy’s final concerns evaporated.
Seeing that neither the bug, the sphere, nor the team believed him, Tracy simply grabbed Adonis by the collar and pulled him down.
Adonis’s eyes were filled with shock. He watched the male approach, feeling their lips touch, and then, in front of all the bugs and the mechanical sphere, Tracy bit down on his lip.
Adonis’s body went rigid, but the slight stinging sensation at his lip reminded him that this was not an illusion, but reality.
The male was protecting him and had even bestowed upon him an incredibly intimate kiss.
Gasps rose from all around.
The Wasp covered his eyes.
A buzzing sound filled the air as all the females watched intently, their antennae standing straight up.
Veblen, the leader, was the most shocked.
His mouth hung open as he watched the arrogant Adonis slowly close his eyes, his eyelashes trembling and a thin layer of red creeping onto his ears.
The redness gradually spread until his entire body seemed flushed; he no longer looked like a dangerous god of war, but rather like a ripe peach.
If someone challenged him to a duel now, he felt he would definitely win.
Veblen felt a mix of bitterness and sourness in his heart, an indescribable feeling.
He was a bit envious, yet he did not want to admit it.
After finally waiting for the two bugs to separate, Veblen looked at Adonis, who had regained his composure.
Adonis touched his lips with his hand and raised an eyebrow, as if he were showing off something.
Why him? Why was he so lucky that he can get kissed just by standing there?
Veblen felt he was beginning to understand the Wasp, because he, too, was feeling a sudden urge to say to the rogue male standing before him:
“Let him go and let me try.”
The male licked his lips, still unsatisfied, and cast his gaze toward Veblen: “Now do you believe I wasn’t lying?”
He had not been threatened or coerced; everything had been voluntary.
“The wedding is in three days.”
Tracy leaned against Adonis’s chest and announced: “You are all welcome to attend.”
“Does that mean the female Adonis is not yet your official consort?” Veblen’s tone held a hint of subtle excitement.
Before he could continue, Adonis, finding the scene somewhat familiar, shot a death glare at him:
“Do you want to die?”
