- Chapter 29.2 - She lifted up the clothes that were in the way...
In the past, their relationship had been cordial and respectful. Qin Rong had always held Fan Hua in high regard as her Senior Sister. But ever since she discovered Fan Hua had cursed Xian Ning, her opinion of her had plummeted, replaced by a faint sense of dislike.
Fan Hua ignored her and addressed Xian Ning instead. “Xian Ning, you’ve been at Junior Sister Qin’s for days now. Don’t you think it’s time to go back? It’s not right to keep bothering her, especially since she’s so focused on her cultivation and can’t always look after you.”
Xian Ning had already been thinking of leaving. Qin Rong had sacrificed a lot of her cultivation time to take care of her, and Xian Ning felt bad about it.
This was a good chance to go back…
Just as she thought this, her hand was grabbed. “You’re not bothering me at all,” Qin Rong said firmly. “You can stay here.”
“Huh?”
Qin Rong said it again with all seriousness, then added, “You were hurt because of me, weren’t you? If you don’t let me take care of you, I’ll feel very guilty.”
Xian Ning took a deep breath. “My injuries are already healed, and my eyes as well…”
Qin Rong wrapped her in a tight hug, cutting her off.
“We don’t know when your eyes will be fully healed. It’s too inconvenient for you to live alone. It’s better to have someone with you.”
Xian Ning’s words got caught in her throat again. She held her arms stiffly, unsure whether to hug Qin Rong back.
Fan Hua’s expression grew even darker, and she seemed to radiate a chill.
“Shouldn’t it be Xian Ning’s decision whether she stays or not? Junior Sister Qin, you are the future of our sect. You should focus on your cultivation and not let worldly affairs disrupt your heart of the Dao.”
Qin Rong looked back at her, her eyes equally cold. “Thank you for your concern, Senior Sister, but I know what I’m doing. On the other hand, you seem to be paying a little too much attention to Xian Ning. Anyone who didn’t know you would think you had ulterior motives.”
Xian Ning quickly covered Qin Rong’s mouth with her hand and gave Fan Hua an awkward smile. “Junior Sister Qin has been having some trouble with her cultivation lately, so she’s a little hot-tempered. Please don’t take it personally.”
Qin Rong didn’t pull away. She just blinked her big eyes, looking a little bit wronged.
Xian Ning whispered softly, “Behave.”
Instantly, Qin Rong stopped her fussing, like a dog being petted.
Xian Ning smiled faintly before turning to Fan Hua. “I was planning to go back. If it’s not too much trouble, Senior Sister, could you take me?”
Fan Hua’s expression softened. “Of course. Come out.”
Qin Rong’s eyes, which had just been softened, hardened. Her face was even more upset than before. She grabbed Xian Ning’s hand and whispered, “Don’t go. She’s too dangerous!”
Xian Ning gently rubbed Qin Rong’s hand with her thumb and smiled. “It’s alright. She won’t do anything on the mountain.”
She was gambling, betting that Fan Hua’s feelings for her were more than just for personal gain.
Based on their interactions, she could feel Fan Hua’s genuine concern. If it was all an act, then her acting skills were far too good.
And now that Qin Rong had already let it slip, Fan Hua probably had a good idea of what was going on. This was a good opportunity to get some answers from her.
Fan Hua had joined the sect long before them, and her displayed cultivation was no less than Qin Rong’s, not to mention whatever she was hiding.
If she angered Fan Hua and she decided to attack Qin Rong, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Since this was her problem, it was best for her to handle it.
Xian Ning gently pulled her hand free from Qin Rong’s grasp and walked toward Fan Hua.
As Qin Rong watched, Fan Hua gave her a smug smile, took Xian Ning’s hand, and led her away.
Qin Rong stood frozen for a long time before letting out a breath and slowly crouching down.
Her mind was a jumbled mess, and she felt incredibly out of sorts, as if a cold wind had blown through her, leaving her feeling sullen and depressed.
Thinking about what she had just done, Qin Rong felt a strange sense of detachment. Had she been possessed? Why would she act so childishly?
Who was Xian Ning to her, anyway? She had no right to stop her from leaving with whomever she wanted.
And what was that display of showing off?
Her mood plummeted again and again.
Qin Rong crouched on the ground for a long time. With every thought, her shock grew, and her mind felt like a tangled mess with no clear beginning.
Meanwhile, as Xian Ning walked with Fan Hua, she took the initiative to admit that her eyesight was back.
Fan Hua looked at Xian Ning, who was deliberately keeping her distance, and her expression shifted. She said in a flat voice, “It seems Qin Rong took very good care of you.”
When Qin Rong was mentioned, a small smile touched Xian Ning’s lips. “Junior Sister Qin is very good to me. She…”
Fan Hua suddenly moved closer and grabbed her waist, the warmth in her eyes replaced by a chilling intensity.
“Senior Sister, wh-what’s wrong?”
Xian Ning was startled by the sudden change in her expression. She had no idea what she had said to trigger her.
Fan Hua stared at her for a long time, then whispered softly, “Such a beautiful pair of eyes. But they don’t seem as innocent as they used to be.”
Xian Ning didn’t understand what she meant. Fan Hua let go, stepped back, and her warm smile returned.
“It’s getting late. Let’s go back, Little Junior Sister.”
Xian Ning’s emotions took a wild turn. She secretly let out a sigh of relief and followed behind Fan Hua toward her residence.
The next half hour was silent. When they arrived at Bamboo Peak, Fan Hua stopped and turned to look at her.
“The forgetting spell on you has loosened.”
Xian Ning’s heart jumped, and she looked at Fan Hua with a hint of fear. Fan Hua let out a soft laugh, her voice as clear as the bells on her waist.
“Why the long face? Are you afraid of me?”
How could she not be? You’re from the Demon Clan.
Xian Ning composed herself and asked, “Senior Sister, why did you do this?”
What Xian Ning really wanted to know was, why her?
The original owner was an orphan with no talent. Besides being beautiful and well-behaved, she was practically unnoticeable. Why would a demon set their sights on her?
Xian Ning couldn’t figure out what she had that they wanted.
Fan Hua watched her without speaking, a smile in her eyes that sent a shiver down Xian Ning’s spine. Xian Ning clenched her hands tightly, her mind racing as she planned her escape.
“Don’t be so nervous, Little Junior Sister. I won’t do anything to you.”
Fan Hua backed Xian Ning into a wall and spoke right next to her ear.
Is this how Qin Rong did it? Or was it even closer…
Xian Ning pushed her away, not giving her a chance to get any closer.
“Senior Sister, why…”
Xian Ning’s voice was suddenly cut off. She stared, wide-eyed, at Fan Hua’s transformation, too stunned to react.
Fan Hua’s purple uniform had turned black, with a flash of red peeking through the collar. Her long hair, loosely tied at the back, flowed like a waterfall down her back.
Her once gentle eyes had become sharp, the edges of her pupils tinged with dark red. Her features were now deeper and more vibrant, and she exuded an air of pure wickedness.
Her appearance and demeanor had completely changed. Only now did Xian Ning truly realize that the person in front of her was a demon.
“What were you trying to say? Hmm?”
Fan Hua looked at her with an air of smug amusement, as if she were watching her pet throw a tantrum.
Xian Ning took a deep breath and asked again, “Why did you put a spell on me?”
“That’s a good question, but I can’t answer you right now. But our dear Xian Ning wouldn’t be mad at me, would she?”
Fan Hua tilted her head, her tone gentle, as if she were coaxing a child.
A flicker of anger flared in Xian Ning’s heart, eclipsing her fear. “Is that a normal thing to say? You’ve caused someone harm; you should at least explain yourself. How can you be so nonchalant?!”
After her outburst, Xian Ning calmed down, clenching her fists tightly and not daring to look at Fan Hua.
She’s a demon. What if she kills you in a fit of rage? How could you be so reckless?
Xian Ning was too scared to meet Fan Hua’s gaze, fearing that a single glance would be the end of her.
“Hahahaha…” Fan Hua laughed.
A hand came to rest on Xian Ning’s head, ruffling her hair before moving to her face and gently pinching her cheek.
“Why are you so adorable? I almost don’t want to leave.”
Xian Ning looked up at her. Fan Hua was staring back, her eyes holding an emotion Xian Ning couldn’t decipher.
“Where are you going?”
Fan Hua’s smile deepened. “You’ll miss me?”
Xian Ning was silent.
The first person she saw in this world was Fan Hua. It was a lie to say she had no feelings for her. Before she knew Fan Hua had cursed her, she had treated her like an older sister.
Fan Hua was older, more experienced, gentle, and reliable. She had taken such good care of her. Anyone would have wanted to depend on her.
But she was a demon.
The Jade Purity Sect was a righteous clan. Their positions were diametrically opposed from the very beginning.
Seeing her silence, the light in Fan Hua’s eyes slowly dimmed. She pulled Xian Ning into a tight embrace.
“The spell on you won’t harm you. Don’t be afraid.”
She squeezed with all her might, and Xian Ning was so constricted she could barely breathe. Their bones pressed against each other, causing a dull ache.
After the powerful hug, the pressure on her body vanished. Xian Ning found herself alone on Bamboo Peak.
She sat down, drained and exhausted.
Why didn’t you just remove the spell before you left? Even though it wasn’t harmful, the thought of having something like that on her body was unsettling.
Xian Ning propped herself up on the table, her eyelids growing heavy. Just before she closed her eyes, a flash of purple skirt entered her vision.
The cold, snowy scent drifted into her nose, and Xian Ning’s heart settled. She fell into a deep sleep.
She slept so soundly that she didn’t even notice someone else had joined her. When she woke up to a face inches from hers, Xian Ning’s brain froze for half a minute.
Why was Qin Rong sleeping next to her? And why was she…
Xian Ning’s cheeks burned as she saw the thin, sheer cloth Qin Rong was wearing. She quietly turned over, presenting her back to her.
She had to tell her that her eyesight was back, otherwise Qin Rong would be too casual around her.
An arm wrapped around her waist, and a warm, soft chest pressed against her back. Qin Rong mumbled and buried her face in the nape of Xian Ning’s neck, nuzzling a few times.
Xian Ning stiffened again, her breathing becoming shallow, afraid of waking the sleeping person.
How did this happen? Where did things go wrong?
Xian Ning silently screamed in frustration.
She wanted to have a good relationship with Qin Rong, but not like this. This was a severe test for someone attracted to women; it was nothing short of torture.
Qin Rong hummed again, her hand on Xian Ning’s waist wandering aimlessly before grasping a handful of soft flesh.
Xian Ning: “?!”
Is anyone going to stop this? Seriously, is anyone going to stop this?!
Qin Rong seemed to like the feel of it. Not content with just squeezing, she began to knead. Xian Ning felt the unmistakable physical response and, utterly defeated, clamped a hand over her mouth.
She should push Qin Rong away and give her a good thrashing, but…
Qin Rong moved her head against Xian Ning’s neck, her lips brushing against her skin, and the actions of her hand grew more brazen.
Xian Ning knew she couldn’t let this continue. She grabbed the wayward hand and quickly escaped from Qin Rong’s embrace, running out barefoot without even pausing to put on her shoes.
As the frantic footsteps faded, Qin Rong opened her eyes. She brought the hand that still held Xian Ning’s warmth to her lips and kissed it longingly.
Xian Ning stood alone in the wind for a long time. Once her body’s heat had subsided, she tried to relax her facial muscles and act normal.
As she was about to enter the house, she hesitated. They had just had a physical encounter. She couldn’t act like nothing had happened.
As she lingered by the door, Qin Rong’s voice sounded from above.
“Little Senior Sister, what are you doing out here?”
Xian Ning was so startled she fell back onto the ground. Her eyes darted around, avoiding Qin Rong’s gaze. Her voice was strained. “N-nothing. When did you get here?”
Qin Rong reached down and pulled her up. “Last night. I was worried about you, so I came to check on you and found you asleep at the table.”
Is that why you were sleeping naked next to me?!
Xian Ning raged internally, but she couldn’t say a word. She glanced at Qin Rong, who was looking at her with her eyes lowered. Xian Ning’s heart skipped a beat as she unexpectedly fell into that deep, oceanic gaze, and her breath hitched.
Xian Ning quickly looked away. “My eyes are all better now. You don’t have to take care of me anymore.”
Qin Rong replied, “So?”
“The Immortal Sect exams are next year. You should focus on your cultivation and bring honor to our master.”
Xian Ning wasn’t worried about Qin Rong’s cultivation. After all, she was exceptionally gifted. But to become a powerful cultivator, talent alone wasn’t enough.
Xian Ning also had to improve herself, as she didn’t know what direction the plot would take.
033 still hadn’t responded to her, which meant it hadn’t agreed to her proposal. If she had to follow the original plot and help the male and female leads get together, she would not obey obediently.
Resisting the will of the main god was dangerous, but she was willing to try for Qin Rong.
With this thought, Xian Ning looked at Qin Rong, her gaze unwavering.
As their eyes met, something seemed to blossom between them, and at the same time, something seemed to change.
Qin Rong suddenly spoke. “Can’t I stay?”
She was asking seriously, genuinely seeking her opinion. Xian Ning replied, “It’s not that you can’t, but I’ll definitely interrupt your cultivation, so it’s better if…”
“You won’t.” Qin Rong cut her off.
Xian Ning’s eyes widened. “What?”
Qin Rong pulled her into an embrace and rested her chin on Xian Ning’s shoulder. “I said, you won’t interrupt my cultivation. I feel at ease when you’re by my side.”
Xian Ning didn’t know how to respond to such a blatant confession, so she remained silent.
*******
From that day on, their “cohabitation” began. Occasionally, Qin Rong would repeat what had happened that morning. She would get half-asleep and start kissing and nibbling on Xian Ning. Xian Ning lowered her expectations again and again, and after a while, she became used to it.
Autumn passed, and the Jade Purity Mountain remained lush and green. These spiritual plants only withered in the coldest winter months, storing their energy to grow more robustly the following year.
With Qin Rong’s help and the support of various spiritual herbs, Xian Ning finally broke through her six-year stagnation and advanced to a new stage of cultivation.
As she circulated her spiritual energy again, she felt a significant difference.
Although her power was still weak, the flow of spiritual energy no longer broke. It moved easily throughout her entire body.
Xian Ning wrapped her arms around Qin Rong, excited. “Junior Sister Qin, I’m finally not a bottom-tier cultivator anymore!”
Qin Rong looked at her sparkling eyes and gave a half-hearted hum.
Xian Ning pouted. “Why are you so nonchalant?”
Qin Rong stared at her lips moving and wondered whether she should kiss them.
“Where are you looking?” Xian Ning frowned.
Qin Rong answered with action, capturing her lips.
Xian Ning was stunned. She gently clutched Qin Rong’s clothes and let her open her lips to deepen the kiss.
Their lips and teeth tangled, their breaths intertwining, making it impossible to distinguish one from the other.
Qin Rong wasn’t good at kissing. Her teeth scraped against Xian Ning’s lip, so Xian Ning took the lead, guiding her step by step.
Xian Ning seemed to be very experienced at kissing. Realizing this, Qin Rong’s mood soured. She took back the lead, savagely plundering Xian Ning’s mouth and robbing her of air.
Xian Ning was forced to follow her rhythm. When the kiss ended, her lips were chapped and bruised.
Seeing Xian Ning’s hand over her mouth, Qin Rong realized she had gone too far. She stuttered an apology. Xian Ning patted her head and said, “If you know you’re wrong, go make the bed. The weather has changed, so we should go to bed early.”
Qin Rong’s gloomy face immediately brightened. She grabbed Xian Ning’s hand and gently licked the small cuts on her lips.
“Does it still hurt?”
Her eyes drooped, looking at Xian Ning like a large dog begging for praise. Xian Ning imagined a tail wagging and felt a wave of fondness.
“It doesn’t hurt anymore.”
“That’s good.” Qin Rong turned to make the bed.
As she lay in bed, Xian Ning was still thinking about the kiss. Qin Rong had used the excuse of cultivation to kiss and nuzzle her many times recently, but they had never given these actions a special meaning. Sometimes, it was better not to break that barrier.
Qin Rong rolled over and stuck to her, her hand on Xian Ning’s stomach and her lips on the nape of her neck.
“Little Senior Sister, I…”
Qin Rong’s face was uncharacteristically flushed, and the words were on the tip of her tongue, but she couldn’t say them.
Xian Ning swatted the restless hand away, turned to face her, and said, “Go to sleep. Or I’ll throw you out.”
The interruption made Qin Rong forget what she wanted to say. Instead, she threw herself on Xian Ning and snuggled into her embrace.
Xian Ning had a vague idea of what she wanted to say, but right now, she couldn’t accept her affection.
Until 033 gave her a definite answer, they could only be fellow disciples. Nothing more.
*******
Time flew by, and soon it was the next year.
Spring came early to Jade Purity Mountain. By March, the grass was lush, and the birds were singing, full of life.
This year’s Immortal Sect tournament was being held at the Jade Purity Sect. As inner disciples, Xian Ning and Qin Rong were assigned to help Li Zhao set up the tournament grounds.
In previous years, this had been Fan Hua’s responsibility. With her gone, it fell to Li Zhao. Li Zhao was impatient, and whenever something went wrong, he would get lazy and start cursing Fan Hua.
“Just let me get my hands on her. I’ll teach her a lesson!”
Xian Ning had been listening to him for days. She had even memorized his lines. Whenever he started, she would give Qin Rong a helpless look, and seeing the same look on Qin Rong’s face, a smile would involuntarily appear on her own.
After five days of preparation, they finally got a break. Xian Ning and Qin Rong walked back to their residence slowly. Suddenly, Xian Ning stumbled. If Qin Rong hadn’t grabbed her in time, she would have fallen off the path.
Xian Ning’s vision blurred, and her head buzzed. A sharp pain shot through her temples and quickly spread to her limbs.
Qin Rong’s voice came through to her, muffled, as if filtered through layers of fog, damp and sticky.
“Xian Ning, what’s wrong with you?!”
