- After Being Entangled By the Obsessive Heroine [Quick Wear]
- Chapter 14 - "Don't you know Xian Ning wants to date me?"
Xian Ning sat between them, struggling to eat her bun.
Lu Han mixed some spicy vinegar for her. “The doctor said to avoid spicy food, so have a little less,” she said softly.
Xue Yingxian pushed the small dish aside. “Then you should follow the doctor’s orders and not have any at all.”
The two sat on either side of Xian Ning. Their eyes met, and it was as if electricity sparked between them. One wrong move, and someone would be burned.
Xian Ning pulled her neck in, not daring to move.
She could understand Xue Yingxian’s hostility toward Tang Di; after all, he was her love rival in a non-traditional way. But why was she giving Lu Han a hard time? Lu Han was just her sister.
Xian Ning couldn’t figure it out. She wolfed down a bun and, with a mouthful of food, hurried to her room.
She couldn’t stand to be in that dining room for another second!
Lu Han finished Xian Ning’s leftovers and swiftly cleared the table. She looked up at Xue Yingxian. “Miss Xue, you’re still here?” she said with a hint of surprise.
Xue Yingxian was caught off guard. She gave Lu Han a long, hard look before walking toward Xian Ning’s room.
“Xian Ning, did you already changed? When are we leaving?”
Lu Han heard this and immediately put down the trash can. She rushed over without even washing her hands.
“Xian Ning told me you helped her yesterday, and I wanted to treat you to a meal to thank you, but I didn’t expect you to be here so early.”
Lu Han’s tone was normal, but Xue Yingxian heard a hint of sarcasm in her voice, as if she were a beggar who had never eaten before, rushing over so early.
But she didn’t know anything about Lu Han wanting to treat her to a meal. She wouldn’t take the blame for something she didn’t do.
“Thank you, Sister Lu Han. But Xian Ning didn’t tell me about this. I’m here to take Xian Ning on a date.”
She gave a “friendly” smile and added on purpose, “Sister Lu Han, you don’t know yet, but Xian Ning agreed to go out with me last night, which is why I’m here so early. It makes sense, though. Xian Ning is an adult now, and it’s normal for her to have her own secrets.”
The smile on Lu Han’s face faltered, and her eyes became colder.
Xian Ning really hadn’t told her. Was Xian Ning afraid of her finding out?
And if so, what was her reason for doing this? Was she worried about her feelings, or did she just not want her family to know?
The difference seemed small, but it was key to understanding where her feelings lay. She didn’t want Xian Ning to just see her as a family member or a sister. She wanted her to see her as…
Xian Ning listened to Xue Yingxian’s words, slumping on the bed like a slacker without a dream. Why does her big mouth just blurt everything out?
Lu Han was overly focused on her and had a strange sense of possessiveness. She hadn’t told her because she didn’t want to cause more trouble.
It was too difficult to explain.
Sure enough, Lu Han’s voice came from outside the door.
“Xian Ning, is what Miss Xue said true?”
It’s true, Xian Ning said to herself, but her voice came out timidly.
“Since she said so, then… then it must be… true.”
Xue Yingxian tilted her head and shrugged, a triumphant look on her face. Lu Han’s expression darkened, and her eyes became heavy.
“Alright, have fun then. I’ll book the restaurant and let you know.”
Xue Yingxian couldn’t understand why Lu Han was so determined to have this meal. It wasn’t like she genuinely wanted to thank her.
From Lu Han’s perspective, this meal was a must! That way, Xian Ning would spend a few hours less with Xue Yingxian.
Xian Ning opened the door. “Sister, you’re not going to stop me?”
Lu Han gave her a gentle and doting smile. “Stop you from what? You’re free to have your own friends. I used to get a headache from the way you two always fought, but this is much better. I’m relieved.”
She reached out and ruffled Xian Ning’s hair. “Our Xian Ning has really grown up.”
Xian Ning straightened her messy hair and grinned, looking a bit foolish.
Xue Yingxian felt that something was off. She had gotten what she wanted, but it felt like Lu Han was the one who won.
Xian Ning went through her clothes but couldn’t find anything suitable for going out. She used to have such terrible taste, choosing loud, vibrant colors and ridiculously exaggerated styles that were not for everyday wear.
Finally, she found a white dress at the very bottom of her closet. It had a square neckline and puffed sleeves, which made her look a bit young, but it was still much better than the other flashy clothes.
Lu Han had given it to her on her seventeenth birthday. At that time, she had just been reunited with her family and was full of bitterness and resentment toward everyone. Lu Han had only been working for a year and didn’t have much savings, but she splurged on this dress for her.
The dress might look simple, but it was from a famous brand and cost fifty thousand yuan, which had drained Lu Han’s savings at the time.
The dress fit perfectly. The white color made her look pure, like a snow lotus blooming on the edge of a cliff.
Standing in front of the full-length mirror, Xian Ning thought that Lu Han was truly a wonderful sister.
She opened the door. The two people in the living room, whose tense standoff had not eased, froze simultaneously and stared at her.
Xian Ning felt shy under their gaze. She fiddled with her dress. “I didn’t have anything to wear, so I wore the dress my sister gave me. Does it look bad?”
Lu Han’s eyes lit up. She stood up and walked over to her. “You look beautiful,” she said sincerely. “It’s a style from three years ago, but it doesn’t look outdated on you at all.”
She meant that Xian Ning wore the dress to its full potential.
Her face held an innocent seductiveness, a blend of naiveté and glamour that complemented the dress perfectly, bringing out a pure, yet enchanting, charm.
Xue Yingxian also walked over. She didn’t want to admit it, but Xian Ning looked truly beautiful in that dress.
“Ready to go?”
Xian Ning nodded and waved goodbye to Lu Han. Lu Han watched them leave, and the smile on her face vanished instantly.
She stood there with a sullen face for a moment, then grabbed her car keys and went out.
*******
The two of them stood in the elevator. Xue Yingxian subtly shifted toward Xian Ning, pushing her into the corner.
“There’s no need to save space like that, is there?” Xian Ning asked.
Xue Yingxian said, with a straight face, “There are too many people. We have to squeeze in.”
A resident who had just gotten in looked at them with a complex expression. There were only three people in the elevator. Where was it crowded?
The elevator stopped on the first floor. After the person in front of them walked out, Xue Yingxian lingered. When Xian Ning wondered why she wasn’t leaving, Xue Yingxian grabbed her hand.
“I didn’t eat breakfast, and my blood sugar is a little low.”
Xian Ning looked at her bright and lively expression, a little suspicious.
Xue Yingxian didn’t give her a chance to react. She held her hand and walked out, a triumphant smile on her face.
The car was parked outside the community, and the two walked across most of the area, their hands clasped together. Passersby didn’t think much of it, just two girls who were close friends holding hands while walking.
When they got to the main gate, Xue Yingxian glanced back. “What’s wrong?” Xian Ning asked.
Xue Yingxian seemed confused. “I feel like I’m being watched.”
Xian Ning looked where she was looking. Besides a few residents, there was nothing there.
“It’s probably just your imagination. You should watch fewer mystery shows.”
Xue Yingxian smiled and continued walking. Maybe she was overthinking things. It was better to just cherish this moment.
Xian Ning felt her hand being squeezed a little tighter. She looked at Xue Yingxian, and other than her slightly flushed ears, there was nothing unusual about her.
They’ve already slept together, and she’s blushing just from holding hands? Is she really that innocent?
Xian Ning wanted to laugh.
Xue Yingxian had planned to take Xian Ning out to have fun, but Xian Ning suggested she eat something first. If her blood sugar really did drop and she fainted, it would be terribly embarrassing.
Xue Yingxian felt like she was full of love, so she wasn’t hungry at all, but to keep up her lie, she went into a breakfast place that was still open.
After they entered, a man in a hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses peeked out and pulled out his phone to make a call.
Lu Han, sitting in her car, saw the man furtively taking pictures of Xian Ning and Xue Yingxian. She immediately realized something was wrong. She took a picture of him and called the police.
“Hello, there’s a man on Huainan Road following two young women. He seems to be mentally unstable and has a tendency to harm people.”
After eating, Xue Yingxian took Xian Ning to the biggest mall to buy clothes. If Xian Ning looked at something for even a second, she would immediately buy it.
Xian Ning had no choice but to walk with her head straight, and after quickly touring three floors, she was already half exhausted.
“I’m so tired,” Xian Ning said.
Xue Yingxian put down her shopping bags. “Why were you walking so fast?” she asked.
“How is that my fault? If you weren’t shopping so frantically, would I be this tired?”
Xue Yingxian took this as a form of flirtation. She wasn’t angry at all; in fact, she had a big smile on her face.
“Okay, no more shopping.”
As soon as she said that, the corner of her eye caught a glimpse of a beverage shop. She immediately asked Xian Ning, “Are you thirsty? I’ll go get you some milk tea.”
Xian Ning was halfway through a nod when she saw an unwelcome guest, and her expression suddenly changed.
Tang Di walked over with a few people, blocking their way.
“Xue Yingxian, you’re doing so well, telling my parents to send me to the hospital while you’re out here having a good time!”
The words were squeezed out of him, showing just how furious he was.
Xue Yingxian shielded Xian Ning. “Tang Di,” she said coldly, “if you’re sick, you should get treated. Patients belong in a hospital. You shouldn’t avoid doctors, or you’ll fall into a state of irreparable ruin.”
In her opinion, Tang Di was already insane. Why did he bring all these people? It wasn’t a kidnapping. He couldn’t possibly be planning to abduct someone in broad daylight, right?
He wouldn’t dare in a society ruled by law!
If he tried anything, she would call the police and have them do a psychological evaluation, then send him straight to a mental hospital.
Tang Di knew this, of course. These people weren’t here to cause trouble for Xue Yingxian and Xian Ning. They were sent by his old man to keep an eye on him—afraid he would cause more problems and embarrass the Tang family.
Ha. To Tang Ran, his reputation will always be more important than his son.
Unable to deal with Xue Yingxian, he changed targets, trying to threaten Xian Ning.
“Lu Xian Ning, didn’t you always want to marry me and become the matriarch of the Tang family? If you come with me, I’ll give you a chance.”
Oh, what a huge favor, Xian Ning thought sarcastically. What on earth gives this man so much confidence?
Is it because he’s a violent psychopath?
Or is it because he’s mentally ill?
It seems that no matter how rotten a man is, he’ll always think he’s hot stuff, with countless women fighting over him and getting bruised and battered in the process.
“Mr. Tang, maybe you should go see a doctor first? I’ll even pay for your specialist appointment.”
Tang Di hadn’t expected to be rejected so bluntly by Xian Ning. Her words were a huge insult to him. His face visibly darkened, his breathing became heavy, and the veins on his forehead subtly bulged. His sanity was on the verge of collapsing.
