- After Being Entangled By the Obsessive Heroine [Quick Wear]
- Chapter 15 - "Will you stay the night?"
Xian Ning knew that Tang Di was about to lose it again, so she quickly pulled Xue Yingxian aside and whispered in her ear, “If things get out of hand, let’s run.”
Her warm, light breath, like a soft feather, tickled Xue Yingxian’s ear. Xue Yingxian felt a little tickle in her heart, and her neck stiffened instinctively, but she couldn’t help but lean closer to Xian Ning.
Tang Di looked at their intimate gestures. The veins on his hands bulged, and his eyes turned red. It was clear he was trying to control his emotions, but it wasn’t working very well.
Or rather, his condition was already so severe that even a slight trigger could make him break down.
The person beside him managed to stop him just before he lost it.
“Young Master, we should go back.”
Tang Di turned to look at him, his eyes filled with disgust and rage, like a cornered beast using fury to cover its incompetence.
“What are you?! How dare you command me?!”
The man’s face was expressionless, as if he were used to it. “Young Master, if something happens to you today, the old master will just extend your time of ‘self-reflection,’ and then you’ll have to face me for a lot longer.”
The words sounded proper, but what he meant was that if Tang Di continued to lose it, he would be under constant surveillance.
This was undoubtedly a terrible thing for Tang Di. His emotions didn’t calm down; they got more agitated.
Xian Ning watched him, her mind wavering.
If he was like this in public, what was he like at home?
If he continued to spiral into madness, Xue Yingxian might be tormented to death in just a few months.
Thinking of this, Xian Ning clenched her fists. Xue Yingxian thought she was scared and gently held her hand.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let him hurt you.”
Xian Ning looked at her, and something inside her came crashing down.
Tang Di pushed the bodyguard away and walked toward the two of them step by step. Xian Ning looked at the people gathered around and had a bold idea.
Let him go crazy. If he made a big enough scene, even the Tang family couldn’t protect him. A lunatic with a clear tendency for violence would find his best home in a mental asylum.
Xue Yingxian and Xian Ning exchanged glances. Their thoughts were in sync, but it was too dangerous to use themselves as bait. Xue Yingxian stood firm, shielding Xian Ning, and facing Tang Di herself.
“Xue Yingxian, get out of the way!”
In Tang Di’s mind, if it weren’t for Xian Ning, he and Xue Yingxian would already be engaged. He didn’t particularly like Xue Yingxian, but if he wanted to inherit the Tang family, his wife had to be her.
For years, Tang Ran had been ambiguous about him being the heir, always using his illness as an excuse. He thought his father was truly looking out for him and had even considered cooperating with the doctors for treatment.
But he never expected that Tang Ran had no intention of handing the Tang Corporation over to him.
The illegitimate son was thriving in the company, while he, the legitimate son, had no personal freedom.
It’s a joke!
Xue Yingxian saw his face getting more terrifying and knew she couldn’t expose Xian Ning to him.
“Whatever you have to say, say it to me.”
Tang Di’s eyes were bloodshot, and his smile was dark and bizarre, like a ghost that had crawled out of hell.
“Then marry me. If you marry me, I’ll never see Lu Xian Ning again.”
Tang Di couldn’t understand why Xue Yingxian had suddenly gotten so close to Lu Xian Ning. Not long ago, they were enemies. Lu Xian Ning had followed him around, obediently listening to his every word.
What changed so quickly?
What went wrong?
Subconsciously, Tang Di held a glimmer of hope, thinking Xue Yingxian was acting this way because she was jealous. After all, they were about to get engaged. She must be feeling uncomfortable seeing him get so close to another woman.
As Tang Di’s thoughts spiraled, this glimmer of hope grew, and his expression improved slightly.
Xue Yingxian didn’t know what he was imagining, but it was definitely nothing good. To be targeted by a person like this was truly a curse.
“What are you spouting? What makes you think you’re worthy of even fantasizing about Xue Yingxian? Are you?”
After saying that, Xian Ning hid behind Xue Yingxian and said on purpose, “He looks so scary right now. I’m scared~”
Xue Yingxian adored her coy behavior. She ruffled her hair. “Don’t be scared. Sister will protect you.”
Xian Ning’s ears turned a little red, and she looked down, dodging her hand. If you know I’m your elder sister, you shouldn’t be patting my head. Honestly.
Xue Yingxian looked at her shy expression, unable to stop the smile on her lips.
Tang Di’s expression froze. After a moment, he moved his facial muscles and said with a halting voice, “You… you…”
Xian Ning looked up at him and flinched. He truly looked like a demon now.
His chest rose and fell with his rage, his clenched jaw and bulging blood vessels in his neck, his bloodshot eyes, and the bulging veins on his forehead…
Everything about him was terrifying and eerie. These things made up Tang Di, making him the embodiment of terror itself.
Xian Ning actually felt a little pity for him. A typical patient with bipolar disorder would have lost control long ago at the emotional tipping point. He was able to push himself to this extent, which meant he had been living a very repressed life.
If he was sick, he should get treatment in a hospital. That way, he wouldn’t have to suffer so much.
“Tang Di, go to the hospital.”
The thought came to Xian Ning, and she blurted it out. She didn’t expect it to be the trigger that sent Tang Di into a full-blown frenzy.
To this day, to Tang Di, the word “hospital” wasn’t just about avoiding doctors. It was a prison where he would lose everything.
Tang Ran wanted to lock him up to clear the way for his illegitimate son, and he would never submit!
Tang Di’s eyes were about to pop out of their sockets as he looked at Xian Ning, as if he wanted to tear her to shreds. Xian Ning felt a little scared under his gaze.
She knew a person like him was capable of anything. She just wanted to provoke him a little, not get herself hurt.
The bodyguard tried to get him to calm down, but before he could touch him, he was pushed to the ground. His head hit a railing, and he immediately started bleeding.
The crowd gasped. Tang Di seemed not to hear them and just stared at Xian Ning.
They were all just spectators. Not a single person tried to intervene. They all knew Tang Di was mentally ill and didn’t want to end up like the bodyguard.
Xue Yingxian whispered to Xian Ning, “It looks like we really have to run. I’ll say ‘one, two, three,’ and we run, got it?”
Xian Ning nodded, waiting for her to speak.
Xue Yingxian looked at Tang Di, something flashing in her eyes. She whispered, “One, two…”
On “three,” she let go of Xian Ning’s hand and pushed her back. Xian Ning, propelled by the force, ran a great distance. She looked back to see Tang Di grabbing Xue Yingxian by the throat.
Xue Yingxian grabbed Tang Di’s hands, her expression was calm. It was just as she had predicted: if they had run together, neither of them would have gotten away. It was better that Xian Ning got away; a small injury to herself was nothing.
“Do you want to kill me? A Tang family heir wants to be a murderer?”
The words “heir” and “murderer” stung Tang Di at the same time. His hand began to tighten, his gaze dark and determined, as if he were ready to die with Xue Yingxian.
“Heir? Ha! Hahahaha…” Tang Di laughed maniacally. “That position never belonged to me, never belonged to me!”
His voice was hoarse and filled with despair, like a beast roaring. The people around him instinctively took two steps back.
Xue Yingxian’s face was turning red, and she was losing strength in her hands. Even so, she didn’t forget to tell Xian Ning not to come closer.
Tang Di became even angrier. He gritted his teeth and said, “It seems you really like her. Fine, I’ll kill you first, then her, so you can be together in the underworld.”
Xian Ning was looking for something she could use. After a quick scan, she found a small stool. She grabbed it and slowly walked toward Tang Di.
Tang Di’s attention was completely on Xue Yingxian. She would catch him by surprise and hit him. The severity of the blow didn’t matter as long as it made him let go.
Xian Ning mentally calculated her steps, quietly circling behind Tang Di. Just as she was about to strike, a hand grabbed her wrist.
“Xian Ning, don’t do anything rash.”
It was Lu Han.
Xian Ning was anxious. “Sister, don’t stop me. If I don’t act now, Xue Yingxian is going to die.”
Lu Han sighed and lifted her chin slightly. “Look.”
Xian Ning looked and saw two police officers pushing through the crowd.
Xian Ning’s hanging heart was immediately relieved. Her trust in the police was deeply ingrained.
The two police officers first gave a warning. Tang Di still wouldn’t let go of Xue Yingxian, so one of them quickly slammed him to the ground.
“Hey! This is…” his partner started to say.
The officer holding Tang Di took out his handcuffs. “I don’t care who he is. If he hurts someone, he’s coming with me.”
Xue Yingxian was severely lacking of oxygen and was a bit unsteady. Xian Ning quickly helped her, asking if she was okay. Xue Yingxian fell into her arms and whispered, “I’m not. My neck hurts so bad. I wish my sister could kiss it better.”
Xian Ning heard her and knew she was fine.
Their day of shopping was over, and dinner was out of the question. Xian Ning wanted to go home, but Xue Yingxian insisted on Xian Ning taking her back.
Xian Ning thought about it and agreed. After all, she had taken a hit for her. It would be heartless not to agree to such a small request.
Lu Han watched the two of them walking side by side, feeling a pang in her heart. As they walked out of the mall, she said, “It’s a little hard to get a taxi here. I’ll drive you.”
Xian Ning hadn’t said anything yet, but Xue Yingxian politely declined.
“You don’t have to, Sister Lu Han. I just called my driver, and he’ll be here any minute,” she said. She paused and asked casually, “How did Sister Lu Han end up here? Were you busy with something?”
Lu Han felt a little guilty, but her expression didn’t change. “I was just doing something on the first floor and saw everyone gathered, so I came to take a look.”
“Oh, I see,” Xue Yingxian said, not exposing her lie.
The driver was very efficient and arrived in ten minutes. Xian Ning waved goodbye to Lu Han and got into the car with Xue Yingxian.
As the car door closed, Lu Han felt as if Xian Ning was moving away from her as well.
Even though she had never truly had her, she felt she had completely lost her this time.
As soon as they got into the car, Xue Yingxian rested her head on Xian Ning’s shoulder, enjoying a peaceful nap. Xian Ning was still thinking about Tang Di and didn’t pay much attention.
When they were crossing a pedestrian crossing, the driver slammed on the brakes. Xue Yingxian slid off Xian Ning’s shoulder and buried her face in her chest.
The driver quickly apologized. “I’m sorry, Young Miss. A child suddenly ran across the street…”
“It’s fine,” Xue Yingxian said, her voice muffled.
She sounded calm, but in her mind, she was thinking, Well done, old man!
Xian Ning looked down. “How long are you planning to stay like this?”
Xue Yingxian sat up and said shamelessly, “It’s because Old Zhang didn’t drive well. It’s not my fault.”
Old Zhang in the front seat said, “Yes, yes, the young miss is right.”
The car stopped at the gate of the Xue family’s villa. Xian Ning and Xue Yingxian got out. “I’ll wait until you get in,” Xian Ning said.
This phrase made Xue Yingxian’s heart flutter. It felt like they were in a serious relationship.
“Aren’t you coming in with me? My parents miss you.”
Xian Ning was about to say no, but her mother suddenly gasped and hugged her.
“My darling, it’s been so long since I’ve seen you!”
It really had been a long time. Ever since Xian Ning took over this body, she hadn’t visited the Xue family’s house once.
Xian Ning thought it would feel awkward, but calling Xue Yingxian’s mother “Mom” came naturally to her. Her mother was thrilled and held her hand, leading her inside.
“You have to stay and have dinner with your father and me today. I brought you a gift from my trip to Europe. You’re going to love it.”
Xian Ning couldn’t say no. She had dinner with them and tried on the diamond necklace her mother had bought for her. By the time they finished, it was completely dark.
They sat for a while longer. Xue Yingxian’s mother went to do her skincare routine, and her father went to take a phone call, leaving only Xian Ning and Xue Yingxian in the living room.
“I need to go. Can you tell your parents for me?”
Xian Ning stood up, but Xue Yingxian grabbed her hand and looked at her with puppy-dog eyes. Xian Ning’s heart melted.
“Why are you looking at me like that? It’s not like I’m never going to see you again.”
Xue Yingxian rubbed her hand against Xian Ning’s face and said weakly, “Can’t you stay over? I’m worried about you going back alone this late.”
Before she could say no, Xian Ning was pulled onto the sofa. Xue Yingxian quickly moved closer, staring intently at her.
One moment she was a puppy, the next, a dominant wolf.
Xue Yingxian stared at her for a long time, then buried her face in Xian Ning’s neck. “You look so beautiful today.”
