- Chapter 11 - Lips and teeth intertwined, breath exchanged
Xian Ning tried to get away from Xue Yingxian, pulling Tang Di inside, but he wouldn’t budge. She decided to make a break for it herself, only to be caught and pulled back.
Tang Di looked at her with an easy, almost leisurely air, his eyes filled with intense interest.
Xian Ning had a bad feeling about whatever had piqued Tand Di’s interest.
As they went back and forth, Xue Yingxian was already in front of them.
Xue Yingxian’s eyes dropped slightly as she took a quick glance at Xian Ning before turning to Tang Di. “I was wondering if Mr. Tang would do me the honor of a dance.”
“It would be my pleasure, Miss Xue,” Tang Di said.
Tang Di immediately released Xian Ning and put his arm around Xue Yingxian’s waist.
Xue Yingxian instinctively frowned in disgust, but her expression returned to normal a moment later, and Tang Di didn’t notice a thing.
Xian Ning, left standing alone, was relieved. There were very few familiar faces here, which meant she could do whatever she wanted.
She looked around and, seeing that no one was paying attention to her, grabbed her dress and slipped into the lounge area.
She grabbed a slice of cake and sat on a soft sofa, eating while looking at the books the system had sent her.
They were all about mental illness and psychological health.
Reading made her sleepy, and Xian Ning started thinking about taking Tang Di to the hospital for a full checkup.
Tang Di was averse to doctors. For all these years, he had been treated by a private physician, and he never took his medicine properly, which was why his condition never improved.
In the original plot, because Tang Di consistently refused to see a doctor, he became more and more twisted and moody, eventually harming both himself and others.
Since there was still room for change, she had to try.
After eating the last bite of cake, Xian Ning let out a long sigh and slumped back onto the sofa.
She was so used to being a slacker, and suddenly having to put effort into something felt very unnatural. If the system hadn’t dumped all these books on her, she would have never thought about taking Tang Di to the hospital.
The biggest challenge right now was that Tang Di hated the hospital. How could she get him to go willingly?
It was difficult, but not impossible. If all else failed, she would knock him out and just tie him up and drag him to the hospital.
As Xian Ning’s thoughts got out of hand, she came back to reality.
Just get through this grueling banquet first.
You can do it, Xian Ning!
A moment of motivation, followed by continued laziness. Xian Ning didn’t even lift a finger and went back to being a couch potato.
The door suddenly banged open. Xian Ning flinched, and as she was about to get up, she heard the sound of kissing.
“?”
The two people who entered acted as if they were alone, and Xian Ning was forced to lie back down.
“Niaoniao, not here…”
The voice was muffled, and a wet, intimate sound filled the air. Xian Ning tried to subtly inch farther into the sofa.
There’s a person here, for crying out loud!
“Don’t worry, no one will find us.”
Xian Ning: So I’m not a person?
“Niao… Mmm…”
The kissing got more intense. Xian Ning honestly thought one was going to eat the other.
After about ten minutes, the sounds gradually subsided.
“Sister, how was it? Did I do a good job?”
“Shut up,” the voice said, soft and intimate, almost like she was flirting.
The one called Niaoniao laughed, their voice filled with a sense of satisfaction and pleasure.
Click. The lock turned. Xian Ning thought they were leaving and, with a sigh of relief, craned her neck to look, only to lock eyes with Zhong Ning.
How awkward is this?
Zhong Ning curled her lips and put a finger to her mouth in a “shhh” gesture before closing the door.
Xian Ning finally understood who these two were.
Zhong Ning, nicknamed Niaoniao, was the biological daughter of Xue Yingxian’s adoptive parents. She had been admitted to the Film Academy last year and was now a well-known up-and-coming actress. As for the other person, if she wasn’t mistaken, it was probably Chu Ling.
Ever since Xian Ning had met Zhong Ning, the girl had been chasing after Chu Ling. It seemed she had finally gotten what she wanted.
What Xian Ning couldn’t understand, however, was why Zhong Ning was so nice to her.
Zhong Ning was very close to Xue Yingxian. The original Xian Ning’s actions against Xue Yingxian had long been a source of displeasure for her, and she had even personally come to warn the original Xian Ning.
She wondered why she was being so gentle today.
*******
The dance in the ballroom was winding down. Xian Ning thought she might be able to leave, but just as she stood up, the lounge door opened.
Xue Yingxian walked in and locked the door behind her.
Xian Ning felt a little guilty. After a few seconds of eye contact, she looked away.
Xue Yingxian walked over to her and held out a cherry. Xian Ning looked at her, confused.
Xue Yingxian took one and held it up to her mouth.
“Open up.”
Xian Ning numbly opened her mouth, and the cool cherry rolled in.
Xue Yingxian stared at her for a few seconds. She hid the complicated look in her eyes and deliberately hardened her voice.
“I told you to stay away from Tang Di. Why are you clinging to him?”
Xian Ning was a bit thrown off by her sudden change in attitude. What was this, a cherry followed by a slap?
“It’s him…”
“I don’t care what the reason is. Just stay away from him!” Xue Yingxian raised her voice.
Xian Ning flinched and silently lowered her head. She couldn’t agree to that yet; otherwise, Tang Di’s illness would never be cured.
An uncured illness meant her mission would also be at risk of failing.
But more importantly, she couldn’t stand by and watch Xue Yingxian end up with a psychopath and fall into the abyss with him.
Seeing her reaction, a fire ignited in Xue Yingxian’s heart, and her voice became even deeper.
“As Tang Di’s fiancée, I’m ordering you to stay away from him.”
Xian Ning’s heart felt a sharp prick, a strange feeling that vanished as soon as it appeared. Right. They’re the male and female leads. This is a normal part of the story.
Looking up at Xue Yingxian, Xian Ning spoke with complete sincerity.
“Even though I can’t do that right now, please believe me. I will not ruin things between you two,” she said. Feeling that wasn’t enough, she held up four fingers. “I swear to God, I have absolutely no desire on Tang Di.”
Xue Yingxian regretted her words as soon as she said them.
Her intention had been to make Xian Ning care about her, but she didn’t expect this reaction. Her regret was quickly overshadowed by a fit of anger that made her want to destroy the world.
Why is this woman…
Why can’t she like me even a little?!
Her fury gave way to a profound sense of helplessness. She had never felt so powerless in her work or her life.
It seemed love was more dangerous than any poison.
Xue Yingxian turned to leave but stopped after a few steps and looked back at Xian Ning. Xian Ning’s face was still full of sincerity, as if to say, “I’m telling the absolute truth.”
Filled with a fresh wave of frustration, Xue Yingxian walked back to her, pressed her hand to the back of Xian Ning’s head, and kissed her.
Xian Ning was shocked. She froze at first, then tried to push her away, but Xue Yingxian held her with all her strength. Not only could she not push her away, but Xue Yingxian’s grip got tighter with every shove.
Xian Ning could barely breathe. She felt as if her bones would shatter if Xue Yingxian applied even a little more pressure.
Xue Yingxian was using the kiss to vent her anger, so it wasn’t gentle.
Their teeth clashed, and Xian Ning’s lip was cut, a slight stinging pain. Xue Yingxian licked the small wound until no blood seeped out before she pried her teeth open again.
The faint taste of blood made the kiss even more passionate, and Xian Ning’s struggles gradually weakened.
When the doorknob rattled, Xian Ning came to her senses and instinctively bit Xue Yingxian.
“Huh? Why won’t the door open? Is anyone in there?”
Xue Yingxian’s eyes shifted toward the door, then back to Xian Ning’s panicked face, a smile with a mysterious meaning playing on her lips.
The arm around Xian Ning’s waist tightened, pulling her completely against Xue Yingxian. Her mouth was blocked, and her breathing became difficult, giving her a sense of suffocation.
Her head felt dizzy, and her feet felt light, as if she were about to float away.
At the last moment, Xue Yingxian let go of Xian Ning, not enough to let her faint. As air rushed into her lungs, Xian Ning’s throat tickled, and she started coughing violently.
She bent over coughing as Xue Yingxian patted her back to help her catch her breath, her embrace unchanged.
Xian Ning was still trapped in Xue Yingxian’s arms.
It took a while for Xian Ning to catch her breath. When she looked up, she met Xue Yingxian’s eyes. Her dark eyes, looking down at her, were filled with a surging desire.
The two were so close their noses were only millimeters apart. Hearing Xue Yingxian’s breathing get heavier, Xian Ning quickly pushed her away.
“If your fiancé finds out about us, won’t he be angry?”
Xue Yingxian let out a pained hiss. Why does that sound a little provocative?
But Xian Ning was asking genuinely. She felt that since Xue Yingxian and Tang Di were engaged, Xue Yingxian should keep her distance from others.
The same went for Tang Di.
Once she finished what she had to do, she would run far away and never bother their beautiful life together again.
“Xue Yingxian, don’t do this again. You know I don’t…”
“Don’t like me?” Xue Yingxian cut her off.
Xian Ning nodded weakly.
Xue Yingxian stroked her waist, and Xian Ning immediately flinched back.
“You call this not liking me?”
Xian Ning wanted to argue, but Xue Yingxian threatened, “If you say you don’t like me again, I’ll kiss you again.”
Xian Ning didn’t dare say anything, so she pushed her away. This time, she was able to do it easily.
Xue Yingxian watched her, a faint smile in her eyes.
Xian Ning felt the gaze on her was so intense she couldn’t stand it.
“I’m leaving now.”
With that, she scurried toward the door.
“Tang Di is dangerous. Don’t get too close to him, do you hear me?”
Xian Ning paused with her hand on the doorknob. “Then why did you get engaged to him?”
Xue Yingxian’s lips curled into a smile. “When you stop clinging to him, I’ll call off the engagement.”
Xian Ning fled as if her life depended on it.
The smile on Xue Yingxian’s face slowly disappeared.
After her little test, she knew Xian Ning wasn’t completely indifferent to her, but it wasn’t enough to make her stay away from Tang Di.
She had told her she could give her whatever she wanted, so why was Xian Ning still clinging to Tang Di? What did Tang Di have that she didn’t?
In terms of family wealth and business power, the Xue family was superior to the Tang family in every way. Xian Ning, having been the Xue family’s eldest daughter for seventeen years, couldn’t possibly be unaware of this.
Xue Yingxian couldn’t find an answer.
********
Xian Ning walked out and immediately ran into Tang Di. He was holding a glass of champagne, his expression was unreadable.
“Where were you?”
Xian Ning looked at him. “You can keep dancing. Why do you care where I am?”
Tang Di’s expression turned grim as he looked at her swollen, broken lip.
Xian Ning, fearing Xue Yingxian would come out, walked past Tang Di. He grabbed her arm, his grip was so tight that it felt like her bones would snap.
“You’re betraying me together?”
Tang Di’s voice was filled with ice. The champagne glass in his hand shattered, and his palm was covered in blood.
