- After Being Entangled By the Obsessive Heroine [Quick Wear]
- Chapter 10 - "Saying I like you is just lying to you."
After leaving Xue Yingxian’s apartment, Xian Ning didn’t go home. Instead, she found a quiet cafe and settled in.
She desperately needed a calm place to collect her thoughts.
Judging by Tang Di’s behavior today, restoring him to normal was a long and arduous road. If she stuck to her original plan of getting him and Xue Yingxian together, she would be the one pushing Xue Yingxian into a lion’s den.
Maybe I should…
As the thought crossed her mind, a flash of an image appeared: Tang Di going insane and stabbing Xue Yingxian. Before Xian Ning could even react, the scene changed again, showing the Xue family going bankrupt and her parents dying from the shock.
Xian Ning quickly pressed her temples, which were throbbing. “What was that?” she asked.
[The consequences of deviating from the plot,]
System 033 said, its voice flat and lifeless, unlike its usual playful tone.
[These are just two possibilities calculated by the data. It could get even worse.]
Xian Ning’s heart sank. “I was just thinking about it. I didn’t say I wouldn’t follow the original plot,” she said, her voice lacking confidence.
033: [I hope so.]
After a long silence, 033 spoke again. [I’m not trying to scare you, but that’s what the mission requires. If you mess up this world, neither of us will get a good ending.]
Xian Ning sighed. “I know.”
From the grim possibilities 033 had shown her, Xue Yingxian’s fate was a terrifying one. She couldn’t dare to do anything rash now, no matter what ideas she had.
It was better to just do the mission and figure out how to cure Tang Di.
If only there were a magical pill that could fix everything. Then the male and female leads could live happily ever after.
Thinking of Xue Yingxian, a strange feeling came over Xian Ning. She touched her neck, as if Xue Yingxian’s breath was still lingering there.
When Xue Yingxian had held her and whispered not to get close to Tang Di, saying she would give her whatever she wanted, it had felt like a compromise to a troublesome lover. Honestly, for a moment, she was genuinely moved, but…
No. She was the female lead.
Xian Ning, feeling cowardly, pushed Xue Yingxian away and ran out. Her heart had been pounding the entire time, and it was only now that it had calmed down a little.
She took her hand back, a self-deprecating smile on her face.
First, you said you liked her, and now you’re pushing her away. What kind of person are you, Lu Xian Ning?
Her mind was a tangled mess as she sat in the cafe for a long time.
As dusk approached, the setting sun’s rays streamed through the window, bathing Xian Ning in a golden light.
Her features were naturally soft, her large eyes bright and clear like stars. Her face wasn’t sharply defined, giving her an innocent and harmless look.
Xue Yingxian watched her for a while before slowly walking over.
The sunlight was suddenly blocked, and Xian Ning looked up slowly.
Xue Yingxian stood before her, her eyes lowered, watching her calmly.
“Why are you sitting here by yourself? You look so pathetic.”
Xian Ning opened her mouth but couldn’t get a single word out.
“I was too impulsive earlier. I’m sorry.”
Seeing the regret in Xue Yingxian’s eyes, Xian Ning felt even more guilty and instinctively replied, “You don’t need to apologize. I’m not mad at you.”
Xue Yingxian’s expression remained neutral, but her tense body relaxed. “Can I sit here?” she asked.
“Sure.”
Xue Yingxian was a customer too; Xian Ning had no reason to stop her.
Xue Yingxian sat down, and her first words were, “I know you might not want to hear this, but I have to say it: don’t go back to Tang Di. Stay away from him.”
********
The Xue and Tang families had some business dealings. The first time she met Tang Di, at her eighteenth birthday party, her impression of him was decent. He presented himself well, polite and measured.
That was, until she saw him personally kill a cat and crush her cousin’s rabbit.
The cat had jumped into Tang Di’s arms by accident. It had beautiful fur and was wearing a cute little dress. Most people would have just wanted to pet it, and even if they weren’t cat lovers, they would have just let it go. No one would think of killing it.
It was the first time Xue Yingxian had seen someone kill something with such a calm expression. From that moment on, Tang Di was a synonym for danger in her mind. Later, when she saw him crush Chu Qingqing’s rabbit, she was already prepared for it.
Chu Qingqing cried hysterically, but because of Tang Di’s status, the matter was brushed under the rug.
Lu Xian Ning didn’t know any of this. What was she doing at that time?
-
-
-
- Fawning over Tang Di.
-
-
-
-
-
- Sabotaging Xue Yingxian.

Xue Yingxian thought back to how Xian Ning used to be. Her feelings became strange.
She used to dislike Lu Xian Ning so much, including her looks. But now, she suddenly found her so appealing.
Her face hadn’t really changed, yet it felt like something was different.

“Xue Yingxian, given our relationship, you have no right to meddle in what I do, do you?”
Xian Ning’s words pulled Xue Yingxian out of her thoughts.
Those eyes were clear and gentle, and her face was pure and innocent, yet she could say something so hurtful.
To avoid showing her cowardice, Xian Ning looked directly at Xue Yingxian. “You know I was just lying when I said I liked you, right?”
Xue Yingxian had always known Xian Ning wasn’t sincere, but she never expected her to be so blunt about it. Her composed expression faltered, and the gentle facade cracked.
Xian Ning pretended not to care and quickly looked away. She took a sip of her tea, her tone nonchalant.
“Let’s just consider that night a mistake. From now on, we go our separate ways. I won’t interfere with what you do, so please don’t interfere with me.”
After saying that, she stood up, straightened her clothes, and slowly walked away.
Xue Yingxian remained stunned for a long time, covering her face with her hands, a cynical smile on her lips.
Right, how could I have believed her? How foolish.
Lu Xian Ning has always hated her, seeing her as a thorn in her side. Saying she liked her was probably just a cruel game to see her reaction.
And what about her? She forgot everything in the past and developed feelings for someone who was toying with her.
In her eyes, she must have looked like an absolute clown.
Xue Yingxian’s smile faded, her eyes turning cold.
Xian Ning pretended to be unbothered, but as soon as she was outside, she quickened her pace. She didn’t dare look at Xue Yingxian’s reaction, afraid of wavering from the resolve she had just made.
For the stability of this world and for everyone to have a good ending, she couldn’t do anything that might deviate from the plot.
Sitting on the bus and looking at the bright neon lights, Xian Ning felt extremely exhausted.
The bruises on her neck were turning purple and blue. She couldn’t go home, so she could only ask her sister to take her in for a few days.
Lu Han was a bit surprised to get a call from Xian Ning, but when she heard her say she wanted to stay with her, she had a feeling something must have happened again.
But no matter how much she guessed, she didn’t expect it to be this serious. When she opened the door and saw the weary look on Xian Ning’s face and the bruises on her neck, Lu Han’s pupils widened.
“What happened?!”
Xian Ning sighed and grabbed her sister’s arm, pulling her inside.
“Something happened, but I don’t know how to tell you. Can you just not ask?”
Lu Han was silent for a few seconds before asking, “You can’t even tell me?”
Xian Ning nodded, her voice low. “It’s not a big deal. I can handle it myself.”
Lu Han reached out and gently stroked her neck. “Does it hurt?”
Xian Ning shook her head.
“Go take a shower. I’ll put some medicine on it when you’re done.”
Xian Ning started to say she didn’t need it, but Lu Han cut her off, anticipating her thoughts.
“I won’t ask what happened, but you have to listen to me on this.”
With such deep marks, they would take a long time to fade without medicine, which would make it hard for her to go to class.
Xian Ning knew her sister meant well and went into the bathroom.
Lu Han prepared clean pajamas for her and stood by the bathroom door for a long time, her face grave.
Xian Ning didn’t have many friends, and she hadn’t heard of her having a grudge with anyone. Could it have been Xue Yingxian?
Lu Han thought of Xue Yingxian’s recent change in attitude and the possessiveness she had vaguely shown. She felt this was a strong possibility.
Was Xian Ning not telling her to protect her?
Lu Han’s expression grew even more serious, a flash of coldness in her eyes. But when she heard the door open, it all disappeared, replaced by a gentle smile.
Xian Ning opened the door, and her sister took her hand and led her to the living room.
“This medicine will help with the bruising. It should be much better by tomorrow.”
The ointment, warmed by Lu Han’s fingertips, was cool and comfortable on her skin.
Xian Ning unconsciously closed her eyes, making a soft humming sound like a kitten. Lu Han’s heart skipped a beat, and she slowed down, savoring the moment.
After the medicine was applied, Xian Ning’s neck felt like it was in a cast, stiff and rigid when she tried to turn her head. Lu Han put the medicine away and turned back, letting out a chuckle when she saw her.
She came over and sat next to Xian Ning, fluffing her hair even more.
“The medicine needs about half an hour to set. I’ll watch some TV with you.”
“Okay,” Xian Ning smiled, a hint of foolish innocence in her expression.
Lu Han’s eyes narrowed, her voice soft. “You’re so silly.”
The next day, the marks were much lighter, but still very noticeable. When she went to school on Monday, Xian Ning had to wrap her neck in a bandage.
After a full day of classes, Xue Yingxian never came looking for her. Xian Ning felt a sense of relief but also a bit of loss.
Habit was a terrifying thing. In just a week, she already felt a little lonely eating by herself.
She didn’t see Xue Yingxian all week, but Tang Di would call her to harass her from time to time.
Xian Ning didn’t know if Xue Yingxian was deliberately avoiding her, but in a school this big, it was hard to run into classmates after class, let alone someone in a different major like Xue Yingxian.
******
On Saturday, Xian Ning had an elective course. After four hours of a lecture that made her dizzy, her mood plummeted to rock bottom when she saw Tang Di outside the school gate.
Tang Di was dressed in casual wear, making him look much younger and less conspicuous among the students.
Xian Ning sighed and walked over to him, steeling herself.
She felt like a saint feeding herself to a hungry wolf.
For the sake of the mission, she had to play nice with a psychopath. The sacrifice was just too great.
Tang Di put her in the car. “There’s a banquet tonight. You’re coming with me.”
In the back seat was a delicate box. Xian Ning opened it to find a pure white evening gown. It was a strapless dress with a gathered waist that beautifully highlighted her curves.
Next to it was a diamond necklace, which still sparkled beautifully in the dim light of the car.
While changing, Xian Ning asked 033, “If I go along with what he says, will it help his illness?”
033: [It should. His stats are pretty stable right now.]
That single sentence from the system gave Xian Ning a little more confidence.
Only after they arrived did Xian Ning understand why Tang Di had brought her.
Xue Yingxian was talking to a business partner when she suddenly heard a small commotion. She turned to see the stunning Xian Ning.
She looked like a fairy who didn’t belong in the human world, so beautiful that people were afraid to breathe too loudly for fear of startling her.
In comparison, Tang Di looked like a mere accessory.
Xue Yingxian’s gaze lingered on Xian Ning’s face for a few seconds before being drawn to her dress.
This dress was very similar to the one Xian Ning had worn the night she was drugged, except that one was in disarray.
A rush of memories flashed through her mind. Xue Yingxian’s brow furrowed, and she downed the champagne in her hand.
Xian Ning naturally saw her, too. The moment their eyes met, she turned her head and whispered to Tang Di not to stand there.
Xue Yingxian’s mood was already bad, but seeing the way Xian Ning was being so gentle and agreeable with Tang Di made her incredibly agitated.
The music at the banquet was awful, the conversations around her were too loud, but what annoyed her the most was Tang Di’s hand on Xian Ning’s waist.
Xue Yingxian slammed her glass down and strode toward the two of them.
