After Becoming Arch-Enemies with My Best Bro - Chapter 15
Wen Huihan stared at the line of text on his screen in shock. Was the way gay men spoke really this open? He wondered if he should start studying this style of communication himself.
Unfortunately, his current sample size of gay men was too small, so he decided to hold his judgment on that particular project for now.
He wasn’t sure what kind of wild mental gymnastics Vincent was performing, and since it was difficult to explain his actual plan, Wen Huihan had a sudden stroke of genius. He used the excuse that he wanted to pursue He Chenshuang but didn’t know how.
[Vincent: The world really has changed.]
[Vincent: Or maybe my old eyes are failing me. Shouldn’t he be the one chasing you?]
[Blackened: Don’t worry about that, Brother Vincent. I have my own rhythm.]
Wen Huihan was basically “reading and replying nonsense,” completely ignoring whatever Vincent actually said.
Vincent scratched his head in confusion. Could I really have misread the situation?
That guy who came to pick up Wen Huihan lately was tall, big, and very handsome. He always kept a cold expression, but based on Vincent’s years of experience in the dating scene, the way that guy looked at Wen Huihan was definitely not “innocent.”
Vincent had sensed it vaguely the first time they met. Besides, who travels such a long distance every single day to pick up a friend, protecting him like a mother hen guarding a chick?
Even in Vincent’s most pure-hearted year, he hadn’t been that devoted to his own crush!
But looking at the current situation, something seemed a bit off.
Vincent couldn’t figure it out, so he decided to stop overthinking and started passing on his personal “expertise” to Wen Huihan.
It wasn’t easy for a gay man to chase a straight man, but for a gay man to chase another gay man, especially when both were handsome? That should be a piece of cake, right?
The spectator sees the game most clearly. From Vincent’s perspective, he felt Wen Huihan didn’t even need to “chase” him. As long as his attitude softened a little, it would probably have a miraculous effect.
Wen Huihan spent the entire evening clutching his phone and chatting with Vincent. Although Vincent frequently said things that were quite startling, Wen Huihan managed to learn a lot.
Having been trained by a veteran gay man, he was no longer that ignorant straight guy.
And now, as a well-educated straight guy, he was about to go and ruthlessly tease He Chenshuang, that homophobic straight man.
Wen Huihan rubbed his hands together in anticipation, eager to see what kind of expression He Chenshuang would make.
He opened his music app, queued up a song titled “Stepping on a Straight Man’s Head,” and drifted off to sleep happily to the beat.
The next day, Wen Huihan and He Chenshuang went to class together as usual and headed out for lunch afterward.
During this time, Wen Huihan stole countless glances at He Chenshuang, trying to find an opportunity to act “gay” toward him. Unfortunately, a perfect moment for him to perform hadn’t presented itself yet.
He Chenshuang was unusually quiet today. Unless Wen Huihan initiated a conversation, he remained lazy and aloof the whole time.
Wen Huihan understood. “Spring sleepiness and summer fatigue,” even a top student would inevitably feel drowsy during lectures.
Little did Wen Huihan know that while he was up all night researching gay culture, someone else had been kept awake by a few sentences he had said.
The summer heat was intense. Even though it was nearly October, the sun remained fierce, making people feel as if they were melting like butter.
A long queue had formed at the school’s milk tea shop window where they sold ice cream cones. Wen Huihan took a look and felt his throat go dry.
Ice cream cones were the perfect treat for hot weather. Wen Huihan had another sudden idea and turned to ask He Chenshuang, “Do you want one?”
He Chenshuang glanced at him. “I’ll go stand in line.”
Wen Huihan said, “I’m not eating. Just buy one for yourself.”
“If you’re not eating, then I’m not eating either.”
Wen Huihan was speechless. This wasn’t how he imagined it would go.
Vincent said to create ambiguous moments. He had deliberately told He Chenshuang to buy only one cone so he could later pretend he wanted a bite, taking the chance to lick the ice cream He Chenshuang had already started.
He Chenshuang was so homophobic. Seeing a cone he’d eaten being licked by another guy would surely make him jump ten feet high.
He felt he was truly brilliant for coming up with such an exquisite plan, but unfortunately, He Chenshuang wasn’t playing along.
Does He Chenshuang really have a ‘system’ that allows him to predict my behavior?
Since He Chenshuang didn’t plan to buy one, the plan couldn’t be executed. Wen Huihan could only look longingly at the cones in other people’s hands.
“Hey, where are you going?”
“To jump in a river.”
Wen Huihan watched as He Chenshuang walked toward the ice cream window. A short while later, he returned with an original flavored cone in one hand and a blueberry flavored one in the other.
“Which one do you want?” He Chenshuang held one in each hand, looking like the River God asking if he dropped the original cone or the blueberry one. His posture remained noble and cold.
Wen Huihan was still being stubborn. “Didn’t I say I wasn’t eating?”
He Chenshuang replied, “Your eyes were about to fly onto other people’s cones. You’re not eating?”
Wen Huihan: “…”
He Chenshuang was truly terrifying, seeing through his thoughts at a single glance.
But since he had just said he wouldn’t eat, wouldn’t it be embarrassing to accept it now?
Seeing Wen Huihan staring without moving, He Chenshuang said calmly, “Fine, actually, I’m the one who wants to eat them.”
“I’ll take the blueberry one. Thanks.”
Taking the cone from He Chenshuang, Wen Huihan took a bite of the top point. A refreshing chill spread from the tip of his tongue, making him squint his eyes. Refreshing!
Summer was indeed the best time for something sweet and icy.
As Wen Huihan ate, he looked sideways.
When others ate ice cream, they either licked it or took small bites. He Chenshuang, however, bit off more than half the cone in one go. With his expressionless face, it looked like he was chewing on someone’s head.
Wen Huihan had the illusion that the guy didn’t actually like ice cream and only bought it for him.
How scary. If he asked for a bite of the cone in He Chenshuang’s hand right now, would this man rip his head off and kick it like a soccer ball?
Wen Huihan estimated his own current fighting skills. If he got into a scrap with He Chenshuang, while he might not win a fifty-fifty split, he at least wouldn’t be beaten to death.
Let’s give it a shot!
“Let me try yours.”
He Chenshuang looked at him sideways, raising an eyebrow in silent question.
This was the first time Wen Huihan had done something like this. He was a bit of a germaphobe and never even drank from someone else’s water, let alone ate something they had bitten.
He originally thought he would find it hard to say, but it seemed stepping over that line wasn’t so difficult. Besides, He Chenshuang wasn’t just anyone, he was his “best brother.”
Having said the first part, the next sentence followed smoothly: “I want to eat yours.”
Holy crap.
Wen Huihan was secretly shocked. He actually said it so smoothly. Did he really have a talent for being gay?!
No wonder they said he was a “Gay Circle Top Tier” catch.
He carefully observed He Chenshuang’s expression, trying to find a trace of fear in the man’s eyes or brows.
He was acting so “gay” now. Was He Chenshuang already brewing a storm in his heart, planning to cut ties with this newly “out” gay man?
Hearing those words, He Chenshuang’s expression didn’t flicker. He silently locked eyes with Wen Huihan.
His dark eyes were like the deep sea, never moving away from Wen Huihan’s face for even a second.
The next second, he raised his hand.
Wen Huihan was excited. What does this mean? Does He Chenshuang want to fight?
He took a step back, but the expected brawl didn’t happen. He Chenshuang raised his hand and directly stuffed the entire remaining cone into his mouth, finishing it in two or three bites.
Wen Huihan: “?”
He watched the entire process of He Chenshuang finishing the ice cream in a daze, feeling a phantom ache in his own molars.
Wait, man, isn’t that too cold for your mouth?
He Chenshuang asked, “It’s in my mouth now. Still want to eat it?”
Wen Huihan: “…”
Wen Huihan was left standing there in a daze. Should he say yes or no?
If he said yes, the sacrifice would be a bit too big. If he said no, wouldn’t it be incredibly awkward?
Help, he didn’t know how to solve this problem!
As a fierce struggle erupted within him, He Chenshuang seemed to see the mental battle playing out in his head. His lips curled into a very faint smile.
That smile was hard to describe, it was as if he found Wen Huihan’s internal conflict over whether or not to “eat” quite hilarious.
He even looked away while laughing, covering his chin in a poor attempt to hide it.
Wen Huihan realized it instantly.
Crap, that’s not right! He’d been led astray by He Chenshuang again. Why on earth would he eat something out of He Chenshuang’s mouth?
He Chenshuang did it on purpose. To stop a man from eating his ice cream, he actually resorted to such a tactic to scare him off.
Homophobic straight men are truly devious!
Little did he know that this would only make Wen Huihan even more arrogant. For now, however, he decided to give He Chenshuang some face and not fight with a “food-protecting puppy” over a snack.
