Chapter 8: Housewife
Tang Yiqing returned to the bedroom with weak legs. Upon entering the room, he collapsed directly onto the bed, then braced himself to reach for the suppressants.
As the icy liquid entered his veins, the sting made him shiver. After finishing two vials of suppressants, he slumped onto the bed, utterly powerless. He had clearly just finished his heat cycle, yet he was trending toward another onset. Beyond the influence of Alpha pheromones, it seemed his own pheromones were truly in a state of total disorder.
Early the next morning, after breakfast, Shen Mingzheng and Shen Shanyu sat on the sofa, occasionally looking up toward the stairs.
Shen Shanyu pouted, “Why hasn’t Mommy come down yet?”
Shen Mingzheng’s face also betrayed impatience. In the past, whenever there was an opportunity for a joint family activity, Tang Yiqing was extremely proactive, practically waiting for the father and son long in advance. What was going on today?
During breakfast, he had heard the servants say that Yiqing wasn’t feeling well, but he had been well enough to teach Shanyu to swim last night. Did he catch a cold after swimming? Even if it were a cold, Shen Mingzheng didn’t believe Tang Yiqing would give up a chance for a family outing over a minor illness. So… what on earth was he playing at?
Feeling irritable, Shen Mingzheng stood up. “Wait here, I’ll go upstairs to check.”
Shen Shanyu nodded obediently. As Shen Mingzheng ascended to the second floor, a thought suddenly struck him: Was Tang Yiqing really that important? If he didn’t come down, he and Shanyu could simply leave. Shen Mingzheng’s pace slowed. Since when did he have to wait for Tang Yiqing, or even go up specifically to find him?
Unconsciously, however, he had already reached the door of Tang Yiqing’s room. He stared at the door; this was originally the bridal chamber prepared for them by the Shen matriarch. This bedroom was the largest on the second floor and the best decorated. But now, only Tang Yiqing lived there. He had moved out on their wedding day and hadn’t set foot inside since.
For some reason, knowing he was about to enter caused a tightness in his chest. His hand rested on the handle. Since he was already up here and at the door, there was no reason to hesitate. He was never one to overthink things regarding Tang Yiqing.
He pressed the handle and pushed the door open. As for why he didn’t knock—weren’t they husband and wife? A cold sneer curled at the corner of Shen Mingzheng’s mouth. Conversely, if Tang Yiqing ever dared to enter his territory without notice, he would kick him out without mercy.
The door opened. The curtains inside were drawn, and the light was dim. Immediately, he caught a whiff of a thick scent of pheromones, which instantly caused his body to heat up and his mind to grow restless.
Shen Mingzheng nearly covered his nose. He frowned at the person lying on the bed, half-suspecting this was Yiqing’s goal all along. Whether he was competing with himself or with Tang Yiqing, he didn’t want to admit that Yiqing’s pheromones held a fatal attraction for him, nor did he want Yiqing to think his pheromones had any effect.
“Tang Yiqing.”
“Tang Yiqing.”
Shen Mingzheng called out twice in a deep voice, but the person on the bed gave no reaction. Shen Mingzheng approached slowly, holding his patience while also stubborn enough to endure the physical heat as he walked to the bedside. He wiped his forehead; it was covered in fine beads of sweat. At this point, he had to admit that Tang Yiqing’s pheromones were indeed affecting him.
He reached out to pull back the quilt covering Tang Yiqing’s face, revealing a flushed profile. The tip of Yiqing’s nose was damp with sweat, and his lips were swollen and red. Shen Mingzheng’s hand paused; his Adam’s apple instinctively rolled.
At that moment, Tang Yiqing finally reacted. His eyelashes trembled, and he opened his eyes. His gaze was hazy. His unfocused pupils shifted, finally landing on Shen Mingzheng.
As their eyes met, Tang Yiqing saw Shen Mingzheng’s expression of restrained disgust. “Tang Yiqing, what are you doing?”
Tang Yiqing slowly propped himself up. His brain was in a muddle, and his consciousness was blurred. The quilt slid down, and the fragrance of pheromones grew even thicker. Shen Mingzheng instinctively wanted to retreat, his heart sinking; if this continued, he would lose control sooner or later!
But before he could pull away, Tang Yiqing had already grabbed his wrist. The palm was delicate and soft, yet scorching hot. Tang Yiqing looked up, his watery, reddened eyes fixed on the man before him. “Mingzheng, I feel so bad… I’m in heat.”
Shen Mingzheng froze, then frantically shook off Tang Yiqing’s hand. “You… how is that possible? Your heat cycle just ended not long ago!”
“My pheromones are in disorder…” Tang Yiqing panted, his eyes filled with desire.
Shen Mingzheng stared at him, swallowing hard. “You’re lying!”
In a panic, Shen Mingzheng turned to leave. He had reached his limit. He had been with many high-quality Omegas, but this was the first time he felt a sensation of losing control. This feeling terrified him. He currently felt a desperate urge to climb onto the bed and ravage the person there, but—that was Tang Yiqing! He should feel nothing but instinctive loathing for this person!
Before he could take more than a few steps, he felt a wave of heat from behind. A soft body embraced him. “Mingzheng, it hurts… help me…”
Shen Mingzheng’s body stiffened. He spun around and viciously threw Tang Yiqing off. Truly a slut, so desperate to be taken! He heard Tang Yiqing cry out his name in pain, but he didn’t turn back once, hurrying toward the door. As he turned to close it, he saw Tang Yiqing collapsed on the floor, staring at him with reddened eyes. He looked away and slammed the door shut.
Once isolated from everything, Shen Mingzheng stood at the door in a daze, his racing heart gradually slowing. He finally calmed down. He took a few steps toward the stairs, but that scent of daisies seemed to linger around him. His feet stopped involuntarily. Tang Yiqing’s image appeared in his mind; the way he looked collapsed on the floor was truly a bit pitiable…
Shen Mingzheng turned back toward the door. While he was hesitating, he suddenly heard Shen Shanyu calling him. A moment later, the small figure appeared.
“Daddy, why did you take so long?” Shen Shanyu asked.
Shen Mingzheng snapped back to his senses and placed a hand on the boy’s small shoulder. “Nothing. Let’s go.”
Shen Shanyu asked curiously, “Isn’t Mommy going?”
Shen Mingzheng looked back at the tightly closed door. “He’s not going.”
“Mommy must be being lazy again,” Shen Shanyu said.
Shen Mingzheng’s expression faltered. He looked down at the innocent-looking child beside him and suddenly realized that Shen Shanyu was truly spoiled rotten, which made him feel deeply uncomfortable.
His face turned cold. “Your mother is unwell.”
“Oh…” Shen Shanyu observed Shen Mingzheng’s expression. Realizing his father seemed angry, he didn’t dare say anything else.
Inside the room, Tang Yiqing slowly crawled up from the floor. His knees were bruised red, and his whole body was devoid of strength. This was the first time he felt how difficult this world truly was. Other things were manageable, but these sudden biological instincts were something he truly couldn’t withstand.
He had nearly lost his mind. If the system hadn’t used a tool to grant him a sliver of sanity, there was no telling what he might have done. He had survived this hurdle, but what next? The system told him that their current authority was too low and they had no points left to buy more tools. His current condition was like being on the verge of heat at any moment…
The only consolation was that he had completed another task. The scene of being cruelly abandoned just now: Pleasure Level +5.
