- Chapter 80 - Arch-rival X Fake Heiress
Su Mi was awakened by a faint sound of talking. Upon opening her eyes, she saw Guan Yue sleeping in her arms. Guan Yue’s bangs were messy, her eyes tightly shut, and her thick eyelashes cast shadows on her skin.
There was no clock here, so Su Mi didn’t know the exact time, but the conversation outside continued, even showing signs of getting louder.
Guan Yue always loved to sleep in late. After the fear and long journey of yesterday, now was exactly when she needed rest. Su Mi decided to go out and take a look.
She carefully withdrew her arm from around Guan Yue. She saw Guan Yue frown slightly, but the girl soon hugged the quilt and continued sleeping. Her dirty coat from yesterday had been tossed into the corner of the bed. Su Mi glanced at it but didn’t pick it up, walking out in just her thin long-sleeved shirt.
As she approached the door, the voice of the person speaking became increasingly familiar and clear. Passing by Xiao Xin’s bed, she noticed it was empty, and Guan Yue’s little assistant was also gone.
As Su Mi reached the doorway, the dialogue outside became much clearer.
“Sister Yu, maybe you didn’t get enough rest coming all this way. You’re so tired you’re seeing things.”
“Xiao Xin, do you think I’m blind? Such a big hand! Of all the places to put it, she had to put it on her waist!”
“Maybe… maybe it’s just because it’s cold.”
“If it’s cold, use a blanket! Is there a need to stick that close? Their heads were so low they were practically kissing!”
“Sister Yu, please calm down, just calm down.”
“Do I look angry? Haha, I’m not angry. I’m not angry at all. I’m just going crazy.”
Sister Yu took a deep breath and exhaled. “If I hadn’t accidentally stumbled upon this, how long were you planning to hide it from me? Don’t tell me you were planning to pull a stunt like those movies or novels, saying ‘I want to thank my lover’ at some high-profile awards ceremony?”
That would be a critical blow to everyone’s hearts.
“I didn’t plan on hiding it,” a cool, calm voice rang out. Su Mi’s left cufflink was loosely undone, and her slender fingers rested by her side. She stood there with a hint of lethargy and fatigue, but also a touch of casualness.
Xiao Xin, sitting in a wheelchair, turned around. Seeing Su Mi, both she and the little assistant holding the wheelchair breathed a sigh of relief.
A flicker of internal struggle crossed Sister Yu’s face. She waved her hand to let the two youngsters leave first, then walked toward Su Mi. “How is the wound? Does it still hurt?”
“It’s alright.” Su Mi raised a hand to rub her brow.
“What exactly is going on between you and that actress inside?” Sister Yu asked. “I used to think that even though you’re a bit willful at times, you were the most worry-free artist under my management.”
Su Mi spoke up: “I remember that in our original contract, there was no clause forbidding me from dating.”
Sister Yu naturally remembered. When Su Mi first sought her out to sign, she had negotiated for the maximum amount of freedom. Furthermore, she had heard rumors that Su Mi was well-acquainted with the company’s higher-ups, so the contract was more of a formality. Having Su Mi under her management was purely a stroke of luck.
“You can date, but you should have told me in advance so the team could prepare for various emergencies, right?”
Sister Yu estimated that given Su Mi’s personality, she would never deliberately stay low-key or avoid suspicion. Being photographed was only a matter of time.
“I’m still pursuing her,” Su Mi said calmly.
Sister Yu’s mouth hung open as she looked at her in disbelief. “You guys were… were hugging like that, and you haven’t even won her over yet?!”
Su Mi frowned and took a few more steps further away. “Keep it down. She’s still sleeping, don’t wake her up.”
Sister Yu wore an expression of total defeat, her anger turning into disappointment. She followed. “When did you two start interacting? There weren’t any signs at all!”
In her memory, the two seemed to have never crossed paths, whether in scripts or commercial activities.
“We’ve known each other since we were kids,” Su Mi told her.
Sister Yu was surprised. “Known each other since childhood? So, you took this script just to chase her?”
“Pretty much,” Su Mi said.
Sister Yu looked at her with an indescribable expression, as if saying this woman was beyond saving.
The corners of Su Mi’s lips curled slightly. “But it should be soon. You can start preparing in advance.”
Sister Yu suppressed her emotions. “…Fine. Does anyone else know besides us?”
Su Mi thought back. “The people from the crew who arrived yesterday should have seen it.”
“Seen what?” Sister Yu’s heart jumped into her throat.
Su Mi gave her a glance, her tone carrying a hint of pride: “She was hugging me.”
Great. Sister Yu’s heart, which had been hanging by a thread, finally died.
After a night without rest, Sister Yu eventually left with unsteady steps to handle the leftover issues from the accident.
Su Mi returned to the observation room and lifted the curtain, only to find Guan Yue already awake and sitting up on the bed, a trace of unease in her eyes.
Upon seeing Su Mi, the panic in her eyes seemed to find a place to land, and her full, moist lips pursed slightly.
Su Mi walked forward. “Why aren’t you sleeping anymore?”
“I thought you disappeared.” Guan Yue lowered her eyelashes, which looked like tiny brushes casting a thick shadow under her eyes.
“I won’t.” Su Mi patted her head. “My manager arrived. I just went out to speak a few words with her.”
Guan Yue lifted her head. “Your manager? Then, shouldn’t I not be here?”
Her appearance here was already baffling enough to others. If Su Mi’s manager saw them together, there was no telling what she would think.
The director’s side was a lost cause, but maybe this side could still be saved.
“It’s fine.” Su Mi didn’t tell her too much because she didn’t want her overthinking.
In the morning, the doctor came by again to check on Su Mi and Xiao Xin.
During this time, Su Mi’s manager waited outside. Guan Yue had nowhere to hide. She was now regretting her impulsiveness from yesterday and didn’t know how to clean up the mess.
In contrast, Su Mi was perfectly composed.
After the doctor finished the examination, Su Mi walked behind Guan Yue, who had been facing the window in silent reflection. “Let’s go.”
Guan Yue turned her head toward the door, looking conflicted. “How about you go out first, and I’ll come out a bit later?”
She really didn’t want to walk out with Su Mi and face the scrutiny of her manager.
Su Mi didn’t say a word. Instead, she reached out, took Guan Yue’s hand, and led her toward the exit.
Guan Yue tried to break free, but Su Mi turned her face, her brow slightly furrowed. “This hand wasn’t injured, but it was bumped a little. If you struggle like this, it will hurt.”
Hearing this, Guan Yue didn’t dare move anymore. She could only let Su Mi lead her out.
As Guan Yue walked out with a look of “preparedness for death,” Sister Yu was talking to someone and gestured for them to come over.
“The doctor said there are no other major issues with your body. I’ve sent the precautions for your hand to your WeChat, remember to read them.” As she spoke, Sister Yu handed a new phone to Su Mi. “Xiao Xin said your phone was broken, so I had someone buy a new one. Switch your SIM card.”
Su Mi reached out to take it, but she used her injured hand because her good hand was holding Guan Yue’s.
Sister Yu “tisked” and handed the phone to Guan Yue instead, smiling warmly. “I’ll have to trouble Miss Guan to hold this for her.”
“Ah, okay.” Guan Yue took the item, unable to resist glancing at Sister Yu as she turned back to speak to someone else. Was this woman, famous in the industry for being a fierce, iron-fisted manager, actually this gentle and easy to talk to?
Guan Yue looked at the phone and asked Su Mi, “Where is your broken phone?”
Su Mi took out the basically scrapped phone.
“I’ll help you swap the card.” Guan Yue considered that Su Mi’s hand was inconvenient.
“Okay.” Su Mi wanted to follow her, but Sister Yu called her over.
Guan Yue told her to just go ahead and went to find the little assistant to swap the SIM card.
Su Mi walked over to Sister Yu with a cold face. “Anything else?”
Sister Yu didn’t waste words: “The public knows you’re injured. The company and the crew will issue a joint statement to explain. Leave this hospital early to avoid being blocked by people. The driver’s condition has stabilized, she’ll be transferred to a provincial hospital later for peace of mind. It will take some time to arrange a new driver for you.”
“Also, Xiao Xin needs to stay here for another day of observation. I can’t stay too long either, the solution for the brand sponsors hasn’t been fully settled. I’ll leave someone to look after you.”
“No need,” Su Mi refused.
Sister Yu wasn’t surprised. Su Mi hated being touched by unfamiliar people, it had taken Xiao Xin years to get her to adjust. “But it’s not good for you to have no one around to drive or take care of you.”
“It’s not like there’s no one,” Su Mi countered.
Sister Yu’s mind worked fast, and her gaze immediately landed on Guan Yue in the distance. She thought to herself that Su Mi had used all her cunning for this.
“Fine, then just pay more attention yourself. Call me immediately if anything happens.”
Before leaving, Sister Yu was still a bit uneasy. “I’ve already spoken to the director, but there are a lot of people in the crew. Whether your situation can be kept under wraps is unpredictable. You’d better restrain yourself, don’t go too far.”
Su Mi nodded slightly, indicating she understood.
Ultimately, Sister Yu left with a ninety percent lack of trust.
Su Mi and the others planned to leave early. With the people Sister Yu brought staying at the hospital, the director and the rest didn’t need to stay on guard. Besides, the film set was a bit of a mess and needed some stabilizing.
So, the two groups decided to head back together.
Since Su Mi had no car or driver, she naturally got into Guan Yue’s car.
After getting in, Guan Yue couldn’t help but ask, “Why do I feel like everyone is acting weird?”
Su Mi thought back. “Are they?”
Guan Yue’s departure from the set yesterday had been a bit ill-considered. She had intended to give the director an explanation, but she found that no one seemed to want to mention why she had rushed away from the set so frantically.
Moreover, when she finally gathered the courage to apologize, the director just looked at her with a complex expression, patted her shoulder, and said, “It’s okay, I understand.”
Guan Yue couldn’t help but think about what Su Mi said yesterday, about people seeing her hugging Su Mi. She was crying at the time, it must have looked terrible.
She silently turned her head and leaned against the window, thinking her reputation was completely ruined.
It’s all this person’s fault, Guan Yue thought, shifting the blame with practiced ease.
The road where the accident happened was temporarily blocked, but fortunately, there were other routes, even if they were a bit of a detour.
By the time they returned to the hotel, it was already afternoon.
The director told Su Mi to rest well for a few days and, by extension, gave Guan Yue a day off as well.
With Xiao Xin away and Su Mi’s hand injured, Su Mi blatantly moved into Guan Yue’s room under the pretext of needing someone to help take care of her.
But as Guan Yue looked at the luggage on the floor, the things Su Mi had the little assistant help move over, she couldn’t help but ask, “Su Mi, are you planning on never leaving?”
Yesterday, Su Mi’s hand had been stained with mud and blood that hadn’t been properly cleaned, and she had broken out in cold sweat due to the pain, so she felt uncomfortable all over.
However, her wound could not touch water.
Thus, Su Mi sought the help of the other person in the room.
Guan Yue, who was boiling water, turned around. “You want to shower?”
Su Mi: “Mhm, I feel uncomfortable. Not a shower, just a wipe down.”
Guan Yue looked hesitant. “Can’t you do it yourself?”
Su Mi stood there quietly holding a clean towel, her long lashes lowered, hiding the dimness in her eyes. “If you think it’s a hassle, I’ll do it myself.”
She turned as if to enter the bathroom alone, but very quickly, her clothes were pulled from behind.
“I… I didn’t say I wouldn’t wipe you down.”
