- Chapter 34 - Warm Lips
The expected warmth of the touch did not arrive.
Just as Lin Yishu was about to open her eyes, a voice from above stopped her.
“Don’t move. There’s something on your eye, let me blow it away for you.”
Then, the shadow cast over her face completely blocked out the light.
Because her eyes were closed, her other senses became more acute.
Lin Yishu could feel the stray strands of hair brushing against her chin, like soft feathers fluttering past, causing ripples to spread through her heart, one after another.
Then came a tiny current of air passing over the bridge of her nose and landing on her eyelashes.
Along with it came a fragrance unique to the other person.
Lin Yishu’s tightly closed eyelids flickered imperceptibly. Her hand, resting in the snow, flipped over to grab a handful of white powder before letting it scatter once more.
She suddenly snapped her eyes open and stared straight ahead.
The person leaning over her was currently pouting her pink lips, gently blowing air. Upon discovering that Lin Yishu had suddenly opened her eyes, a flash of astonishment crossed the other’s face and their gazes collided.
Perhaps realizing belatedly how close they were, the other person braced her arms on the ground and leaned back, preparing to pull away.
Sensing her intent, Lin Yishu reached out both arms in advance, wrapping them around the other’s slender neck.
She pulled downward.
The distance between them closed even further, their breaths mingling in the space between their noses.
“Lin Yishu, you, you, you…”
Li Yan’s voice was filled with unconcealed panic.
The distance was close enough that Lin Yishu could see every reaction clearly.
The frantic, darting eyes that didn’t dare settle on her face, the trembling, wavering voice and the crimson flush spreading from beneath the collar up to the neck and chin.
Lin Yishu watched her, her lips parting slightly to let out a soft laugh, followed by a low, seductive voice.
“Li Yan, do you want to kiss me?”
She saw the other’s pupils dilate instantly, shocked to the extreme. Without waiting for an answer, Lin Yishu tightened her grip around the neck, lifted her body slightly and pressed her lips against the other’s.
The lips were warm.
It was exactly the texture and shape she had imagined.
Lin Yishu narrowed her eyes with satisfaction and pulled away after a brief touch.
I’ll reward her with just this much, she thought.
After the kiss, she sat up and brushed the snow off her clothes, then stood up and patted the snow from her legs.
By the time she finished these movements, the person on the ground still hadn’t reacted, frozen like a statue in place.
Lin Yishu wanted to laugh.
Li Yan, this dummy… how can she be so cute even when she’s being a daze?
She squatted back down, bringing her head close again.
This time, the other person sprang back as if startled.
Lin Yishu’s face darkened.
What was that supposed to mean?
“Li Yan, why is your reaction so big? Are you afraid I’ll kiss you again?”
How annoying. Does she really not want to kiss me? Was I just being self-indulgent?
Lin Yishu said petulantly, “Since you don’t want to kiss me, then forget it. Just give it back, and we’ll act like nothing happened.”
Li Yan finally reacted, asking blankly, “Give it back? How do I give it back?”
Lin Yishu pouted. “You kiss me back once and then we’re even.”
What kind of way was that to be “even”?
Li Yan felt like her brain had turned into mush, she had no idea how to think anymore.
However, as soon as the words were spoken, her eyes instinctively fell upon the other’s lips.
Lin Yishu’s lips were pink and moist, like a tempting peach.
Li Yan suddenly leaned in, following her heart, and pressed against them.
The scent of roses drifted over from the other’s mouth. Li Yan felt as if she were in a rose garden, desperately craving more.
Lured by the fragrance, her tongue began to seek out the source.
Lin Yishu felt the restless movement of the other’s tongue. Slightly annoyed, she clenched her teeth and lightly bumped her knee against the other person.
“Li Yan! You!” She was so angry she didn’t know what to say.
She wanted to scold her, but then she remembered she was the one who initiated it, otherwise, the other person wouldn’t have lost her mind.
But the thought that she actually… actually tried to use her tongue made her intensely frustrated.
Li Yan finally snapped out of it. Realizing what she had just done, she waved her hands repeatedly. “Wait, wait, it’s not what you think, let me explain…”
Lin Yishu stood up and walked away, showing no intention of listening to an explanation.
Li Yan ran to catch up, walking a long way before remembering the bicycle and rushing back to push it.
“Lin Yishu, listen to me. I didn’t do it on purpose. It was the pheromones. As soon as our lips touched, I smelled your pheromones and lost control. I really didn’t mean it…”
The explanation only made Lin Yishu angrier.
So I really was just being self-indulgent! If it wasn’t for the pheromones, you wouldn’t even want to kiss me, right?
She turned around, gave a fierce glare, and left with a “Hmph.”
Lin Yishu seemed truly angry this time. No matter how Li Yan tried to talk to her, she wouldn’t respond.
Not only did Yang Xueying and Dr. Xu at the hospital notice, but even Li Chunmei at home could sense something was wrong.
On the third day of the Lunar New Year, as Li Yan was heading to work, she was pulled aside by her mother. Her mother whispered, “Did you and Yishu have a falling out? I’ve noticed things haven’t been right between you two these past couple of days.”
Li Yan thought to herself. I didn’t have a falling out; she’s the one having a one sided falling out with me.
Seeing her silence, Li Chunmei prodded, “What happened? Did you say something wrong?”
Li Yan shook her head.
Li Chunmei asked again, “Then did you do something wrong? Oh, I know. Was it because you two have been bringing food to that youth, Yang? She’s an Omega, after all. Yishu can be close to her, but you should keep your distance, right?”
Li Yan touched her forehead. “It’s nothing like that, Mom. Don’t make it more complicated.”
In reality, Lin Yishu probably didn’t care who she spent time with.
“How am I making it complicated?! I’m just trying to help you solve the problem!” Li Chunmei said anxiously, seeing her daughter’s passive attitude.
Li Yan knew what her mom was thinking, but she couldn’t exactly say. It’s because I kissed her and used my tongue, and that’s why she’s mad.
If she said that out loud, she’d lose all face.
However, in the next moment, Li Yan decided to throw her pride away.
Facing Chen Aihua, who was incessantly gossiping about how Li Yan had beaten up Liu Gang before the New Year, Li Yan held it in until she finally couldn’t help asking.
“We’ll talk about Liu Gang later. Let me ask you something first.”
Chen Aihua’s gossip seeking spirit was interrupted, but seeing her best friend’s serious expression, she suppressed her curiosity and replied, “Go ahead.”
“I have a friend, it’s a friend, not me.”
Li Yan finally understood why certain clichés existed.
She paused and continued, “This friend of mine, for complicated reasons, has to take responsibility for a girl…”
Chen Aihua: “Arranged marriage? Betrothed since childhood?”
Li Yan nodded. “Yeah, something like an arranged marriage. But the two of them have already had… physical contact.”
Chen Aihua: “Hiss~ Getting on the boat before buying the ticket? Keep your voice down, or people will report it as hooliganism!”
Li Yan: “…It’s not what you think. Anyway, their current relationship is a bit complicated…”
Once she had given a general outline of the situation, she looked expectantly at the person in front of her.
They say onlookers see most clearly. As a complete outsider, Chen Aihua’s insight should be sharp, right?
Chen Aihua propped up her head and thought. After a moment, she looked up. “It’s hard to say for your friend. Like you said, it could be out of responsibility, but I feel like she might have fallen in love. Think carefully, is there anything else you missed?”
Li Yan lowered her head in thought and then added, “She once got very angry because someone destroyed something the girl gave her, and she got into a fight with that person. Does that count?”
Chen Aihua clapped her hands excitedly. “It counts! Of course it counts! Your friend is clearly in love with that girl! No doubt about it!”
Li Yan fell silent for a moment and then immediately asked, “What about the girl? What do you think her thoughts are?”
Chen Aihua thought while choosing her words. “From what you’ve said, I feel the girl feels more gratitude toward your friend. It doesn’t seem like love.”
Li Yan asked unwillingly, “But she was the one who kissed my friend first. Why would she do that out of nowhere?”
Chen Aihua waved her hand. “No, no, no. Let’s not talk about why she kissed your friend first. Just look at the girl’s reaction when your friend kissed her back. If she really liked your friend, she wouldn’t be so angry for several days. It’s clear she’s genuinely upset. Maybe the first kiss was just a misunderstanding, maybe your friend lied to you.”
Li Yan smiled bitterly.
Did I lie to myself? Then I’m really good at self-deception.
But what Chen Aihua said made sense.
If Lin Yishu really liked her, she wouldn’t be angry for days just because she kissed her.
So, she really doesn’t like me, right?
“Alright, alright. Now that we’re done talking about your friend, let’s talk about you. What exactly happened that day? I heard you hit Liu Gang over a piece of chocolate? Where did you get chocolate? Is it expensive?”
Li Yan was still immersed in her own world. Hearing this, she shook her head and answered honestly, “Because that chocolate was given to me by someone else. I couldn’t even bring myself to eat it.”
Chen Aihua didn’t react at first, but as they were about to start work, the realization slowly dawned on her.
Wait… why does that reason sound so familiar?
On the day work resumed, Li Yan was called into the office again because of the fight with Liu Gang.
Qi Haisheng acted as if he hadn’t nagged enough before the New Year. He continued for over half an hour before finally stopping to blow the tea leaves off the top of his cup.
Hearing his constant sighs, Li Yan had already prepared herself mentally.
Sure enough, it was as she expected.
“The leadership had a meeting today. Regarding your fight, this year’s ‘Advanced Worker’ award is definitely gone. As for your raise.”
Li Yan no longer held any expectations.
“instead of the original five yuan monthly raise, it’s being reduced to three yuan as a punishment.”
Li Yan’s head snapped up, her eyes sparking. “Director, really?”
The “Advanced Worker” award was just a certificate, if it was gone, it was gone. She could earn it again next year.
As long as the raise was still happening, even if it was less, it was still a raise! Besides, three yuan was much better than nothing at all.
Seeing her looking happy, Qi Haisheng was a bit frustrated and started nagging again. “You young people having drive is a good thing, but you can’t be so impulsive! Little Li, with your skills, losing that much money over this… it’s just not worth it!”
Li Yan muttered in her heart: Whether it’s worth it or not is up to me to decide.
“By the way, the higher-ups also said you have to apologize to Comrade Liu Gang. Then this whole thing can be put behind us. Otherwise, if he really pursues it, the factory will have a hard time handling it,” Qi Haisheng added.
Li Yan scoffed and refused flatly. “Me, apologize to him? Not a chance.”
Qi Haisheng glared. “Little Li, you can’t be stubborn at a time like this…”
“Director, I know what you mean, but an apology is impossible.” Li Yan gave a quick bow and spoke, “If there’s nothing else, Director, I’ll head out.”
Just then, there was a knock on the office door. Qi Haisheng motioned for the person to enter. By the time he set down his water cup, Li Yan was already halfway out the door.
He felt helpless but had to set the matter aside for now.
However, to his surprise, before he could even say two words to the comrade from the Publicity Department, Li Yan who had already left, rushed back in.
“Director, I heard the factory is looking for a broadcaster? I have the perfect candidate. Why don’t you consider them?”
