Jiang Ruosui and Yun Yue’an had been married for six years, a union of convenience between wealthy families. They shared a bed but not a heart, maintaining a facade of harmony while growing increasingly distant.
Life had become monotonous, so Jiang Ruosui resolved to divorce Yun Yue’an. But just as they obtained their divorce certificate, a car accident left them both severely injured and hospitalized.
When Jiang Ruosui awoke, two years had passed. He had lost all memories of Yun Yue’an and learned from his family that his husband had suffered severe brain damage. Firmly believing Yun Yue’an had died protecting him, he tearfully vowed to his parents that he would remain a widower for life and raise their unborn child in his place.
Jiang Ruosui: “I didn’t die… Wait, what child?!”
To convince Yun Yue’an he was still alive, Jiang Ruosui had to visit the psychiatric hospital every few days. To his surprise, the usually aloof Yun Yue’an had secretly kept Jiang Ruosui’s discarded clothes and hugged them while sleeping, often cried over Jiang Ruosui’s photographs, and even spent a fortune on a massive grave for him.
Even more absurdly, Yun Yue’an insisted she was carrying Jiang Ruosui’s posthumous child and scheduled monthly prenatal checkups, which Jiang Ruosui couldn’t stop.
He repeatedly tried to convince Yun Yue’an of his identity, to prove he was still alive. But Yun Yue’an mistook this for being able to see his ghost. Clinging to his hand, teary-eyed, she said, “Honey, just wait a few more months for me. I’ll join you in the afterlife after the baby is born.”
Jiang Ruosui: “…That’s really not necessary!”
He’d hoped that with time, Yun Yue’an’s delusion would fade. But months later, not only was she sicker, but her belly had actually started to swell.
“Honey,” Yun Yue’an said, nestled in Jiang Ruosui’s arms. She seriously patted the pillow stuffed under her shirt, her brow furrowed in thought. “Does this mean I’m carrying a ghost child?”
Jiang Ruosui: “……..”
Just get rid of it. I’m so annoyed.
