Accidentally Becoming a Green Tea Goddess Everyone Loves - Chapter 20
Shen Shirou lightly tugged at Lu Yanwei’s sleeve. ” Yanwei.”
Faced with Shen Shirou’s plea, Lu Yanwei let out a soft sigh. Her eyes were full of helpless resignation, yet she ultimately chose to compromise. “Go ahead.”
When speaking to Shen Shirou, Lu Yanwei’s tone softened significantly. Where Shen Shirou was concerned, her principles were practically non-existent.
“I’ll wait for you downstairs,” Lu Yanwei added.
“Okay, I’ll remember,” Shen Shirou replied.
Before heading to the elevator, Lu Yanwei looked back at Shen Shirou several times. She truly couldn’t set her mind at ease; even as the elevator doors slid shut, her furrowed brow hadn’t smoothed over in the slightest.
Once Lu Yanwei was gone, Shen Shirou breathed a sigh of relief. She turned around and met Jiang Peixing’s gaze, her expression shifting back to an effortless mask of innocence.
“Sister, may I come into your office?” Shen Shirou asked.
Jiang Peixing didn’t answer verbally, but she stepped aside, clearing the path to the open door. It was a silent invitation.
Shen Shirou caught a glimpse of Jiang Peixing’s profile out of the corner of her eye. As usual, the woman’s cold, elegant face betrayed no trace of emotion.
Seeing this, Shen Shirou felt a bit more grounded.
Good. According to Jiang Peixing’s usual temperament, no matter what nonsense Shen Shirou spewed, the woman should eventually grow impatient and kick her out.
Having made up her mind, Shen Shirou took the initiative. “Actually, I don’t have anything particularly important to discuss.”
“I only came here today because I wanted to catch a secret glimpse of you from afar before leaving. I didn’t expect Rong Yuan to keep me here, let alone report my arrival to you.”
“You’ve been staying at the office for days without coming home.” As she continued, Shen Shirou’s voice grew smaller and smaller. “I missed you so much. When I don’t see you at night, I can’t sleep well. I always wake up in the middle of the night.”
Shen Shirou knit her brows, looking as if she were struggling to say something. Finally, as if summoning her courage, she added, “Please don’t blame Rong Yuan. It’s all my fault for coming here so abruptly and disturbing your work.”
Having finished her performance, Shen Shirou closed her mouth and waited silently for Jiang Peixing to throw her out. She didn’t actually want to be here; being kicked out would be a perfect time-saver.
Jiang Peixing listened quietly to her speech before suddenly saying, “I was the one who gave her those instructions.”
Before Shen Shirou could figure out what “instructions” she was referring to, Jiang Peixing spoke again. “As long as you come here, she must report it to me.”
Shen Shirou was utterly baffled.
Jiang Peixing is the type of person who finds even a single glance at me to be a chore. Isn’t she just making things difficult for herself by giving such an order?
But Jiang Peixing didn’t give her time to ponder her motives.
“You two know each other?” Jiang Peixing asked. Her voice was icy and her tone flat. It sounded less like a question and more like a statement of fact she was already certain of.
The question felt disjointed, having no connection to their previous conversation. It took Shen Shirou half a minute to realize that “you two” referred to her and Lu Yanwei.
Why is she suddenly interested in this?
“Are you talking about Yanwei?” Shen Shirou explained naturally. ” Yanwei and I met by chance, but we’ve become very close friends now. I just didn’t expect her to be working at your company, Sister.” She offered a bright smile.
Jiang Peixing’s brow furrowed, but she didn’t respond.
Shen Shirou wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but she felt that after she answered, Jiang Peixing’s face darkened even further. She looked displeased.
Jiang Peixing was the one who brought Lu Yanwei up, so why did she look so sour the moment the subject was addressed? It was bizarre.
Thinking back to the original novel, Jiang Peixing and Lu Yanwei were the “Official Couple.” Shen Shirou couldn’t help but wonder if the pull of the original setting was so strong that Jiang Peixing was already starting to take notice of her.
Whatever. Jiang Peixing’s business has nothing to do with me.
But, why hadn’t she been kicked out yet?
Shen Shirou had assumed she’d be in the office for two minutes before Jiang Peixing grew annoyed. Yet, the woman remained motionless. Lu Yanwei was still waiting downstairs, and Shen Shirou was starting to get anxious.
“Since you still have company matters to handle, Sister, I won’t disturb you any longer.” She turned to leave the office.
The moment she pushed the door, Jiang Peixing’s voice rang out from behind her.
“The company matters are mostly finished,” Jiang Peixing said. “I’ll be coming home tonight.”
Shen Shirou’s movements stiffened.
She was just about to wonder why Jiang Peixing felt the need to notify her about returning to the villa when her own words from moments ago flashed through her mind:
“I missed you so much. When I don’t see you at night, I can’t sleep well. I always wake up in the middle of the night.”
She couldn’t possibly have taken that seriously, could she? Shen Shirou shook her head inwardly, immediately dismissing the ridiculous thought.
As soon as Shen Shirou stepped out of the elevator, she saw Lu Yanwei waiting in the lobby. Lu Yanwei led her to a deserted spot in the hallway.
” Yanwei, what did you want to talk to me about?” Shen Shirou asked.
After a moment of silence, Lu Yanwei cut straight to the point. “Shirou, I don’t think you and Jiang Peixing are a good match.”
For a split second, Lu Yanwei even wanted to pour out all her feelings right then and there. But given the current situation, she knew it wasn’t appropriate. She didn’t want Shen Shirou to misunderstand her or think she was a manipulative person who would blacken someone’s name just to get what she wanted.
Shen Shirou was stunned. She hadn’t expected Lu Yanwei to try and convince her to give up on Jiang Peixing.
Considering Lu Yanwei’s “beautiful and kind-hearted” character setting, Shen Shirou figured she must truly have her best interests at heart. She felt a touch moved.
However, a mission was a mission. There was only one month left before the engagement was supposed to be broken. She couldn’t give up now.
Afraid of hurting her, Lu Yanwei kept her words as gentle as possible. “Jiang Peixing prioritizes her work far too much. No matter how good you are to her, she might not even have the presence of mind to notice you.” Lu Yanwei’s expression was grave. “I don’t want to see you sad over her anymore. I think you should find someone more suited for you.”
“Do you understand what I’m saying?” Lu Yanwei whispered.
How could Shen Shirou not understand? But she didn’t have a single ounce of genuine feeling for Jiang Peixing; Lu Yanwei’s worries were entirely misplaced.
Still, she couldn’t clarify that to Lu Yanwei.
” Yanwei, I understand everything you’ve said,” Shen Shirou replied. “But I still want to try for a little while longer to see if I can change Sister Jiang’s heart.”
In the original plot, Lu Yanwei was the one who volunteered to help her pursue Jiang Peixing. But since Lu Yanwei was currently trying to convince her to leave, Shen Shirou had no choice but to bring it up herself.
At this point, she didn’t care if it caused a butterfly effect.
Shen Shirou gazed into Lu Yanwei’s eyes. ” Yanwei, can you help me?”
