Accidentally Becoming a Green Tea Goddess Everyone Loves - Chapter 19
【 “Baby, there won’t be any issues this time, right? The plot will go on as planned?” Standing in the lobby of the corporate building, Shen Shirou communicated silently with System 888 in her mind. 】
【 System 888 maintained its characteristically unreliable style: “Apologies, I don’t know either.” 】
Might as well have said nothing. Shen Shirou decided to stop wasting her breath on the system.
According to the original plot, Shen Shirou was supposed to run into Lu Yanwei today, “accidentally” revealing her relationship with Jiang Peixing in the process. She just hoped the encounter would happen smoothly.
A moment later, Rong Yuan stepped out of the elevator. Shen Shirou peered behind her, only to see an empty hallway. Her heart sank slightly with disappointment.
Rong Yuan, mistaking her expression for sadness at not seeing Jiang Peixing, had no idea that Shen Shirou was actually pining for a glimpse of Lu Yanwei.
“President Jiang would like you to come to her office,” Rong Yuan explained.
“Understood, I’ll head up now,” Shen Shirou replied.
In this particular segment of the original plot, Jiang Peixing was barely mentioned. She was merely the excuse Shen Shirou needed to “happen upon” Lu Yanwei. Since Jiang Peixing was optional and offered no help with today’s mission, Shen Shirou naturally had no room for her in her thoughts.
As the elevator ascended, Shen Shirou’s heart felt heavy.
Why haven’t I seen Lu Yanwei yet? Has the plot gone off the rails again?
The elevator chimed as it reached the top floor. The doors slid open to reveal a slender, elegant figure standing right in the way.
The moment Shen Shirou saw Lu Yanwei, the tension in her heart evaporated. Finally. Shen Shirou breathed a sigh of relief; thank goodness the plot was still intact.
Acting with practiced speed, Shen Shirou immediately put on a look of surprise the moment she faced Lu Yanwei, as if she were completely unaware of why the other woman was there. ” Yanwei? What are you doing here?”
However, seeing Shen Shirou brought Lu Yanwei none of her usual joy. Her heart was filled with nothing but a bitter ache. If she could have had it her way, she would have given anything not to see Shen Shirou in this place.
Lu Yanwei didn’t answer right away. Her lips moved slowly, her voice low and heavy. “Shirou, there’s a question I’ve been meaning to ask you.”
Locking eyes with Shen Shirou, Lu Yanwei spoke with painful honesty. “Back at the park, I accidentally saw the photo you set as your wallpaper.”
“Now, I want to know,” Lu Yanwei paused. “Is your fiancée Jiang Peixing?”
Caught off guard by the sudden question, Shen Shirou appeared both startled and slightly bashful. “Oh, so you saw that photo.”
“Yes. Sister Jiang is the fiancée I mentioned to you,” Shen Shirou said, lowering her head. “We’re engaged.”
She then asked with feigned confusion, “But Yanwei, how do you know Sister Jiang? Are you two friends?”
Suppressing the bitterness in her heart, Lu Yanwei forced a smile, trying to keep her tone light. “You could say that. You probably didn’t know.”
“Jiang Peixing is my boss,” Lu Yanwei said. “I’m a director here at this company.”
“I see!” Shen Shirou said, her eyes widening in realization. Her brows curved into a bright, charming smile. “Then that means I can see you whenever I come to visit Sister Jiang in the future!”
Being able to see Shen Shirou frequently should have been a blessing, but hearing those words made Lu Yanwei feel as though she were falling into a bottomless pit. It felt like a cruel joke of fate. Even Lu Yanwei had to admit the coincidence was too sharp, the woman she loved was engaged to her own superior.
Shen Shirou continued, “Sister Jiang is a very private person. She doesn’t like making our relationship public.” She raised a finger to her lips in a “shhh” gesture. “So, Yanwei, could you keep this a secret for me?”
Shen Shirou let out a troubled sigh. “Otherwise, I’m afraid she won’t allow me to come to the office to see her anymore.”
Lu Yanwei’s brow furrowed. She remembered Jiang Peixing’s indifferent, cold “let her up” from earlier in the office, she had looked completely unconcerned. Not only that, but even on the day of the wedding dress fitting, Jiang Peixing hadn’t bothered to accompany her.
It was clear that Shen Shirou held no place in Jiang Peixing’s heart.
Yet, for the sake of this woman, Shen Shirou had once asked her with tear-filled eyes if she was so unlovable that her fiancée didn’t like her. How could a person like Jiang Peixing be worthy of everything Shen Shirou did for her? How was she worth even a single one of Shen Shirou’s tears?
Lu Yanwei couldn’t stand by and watch Shen Shirou be hurt by Jiang Peixing any longer. An impulse surged within her to grab Shen Shirou and take her away and she acted on it.
“Shirou, I have something to say to you.” Lu Yanwei gripped Shen Shirou’s wrist. “Come with me.”
This was the first time Lu Yanwei had ever spoken to her with such a forceful, determined attitude.
Shen Shirou was stunned. This wasn’t in the script!
In the original plot, once Lu Yanwei learned of their relationship, she was supposed to offer a smiling blessing and promise to help Shen Shirou pursue Jiang Peixing to bring them closer! What did she mean by dragging her away for a private talk?
Shen Shirou truly hadn’t expected that after finally finding Lu Yanwei, the plot would collapse at the finish line. A sudden sense of foreboding washed over her. She felt that, just like last time, the story was spiraling out of her control.
She tried to stop Lu Yanwei. ” Yanwei, I still have to see Sister Jiang. Whatever it is, can we—”
Before she could finish the phrase “talk later,” a familiar, cold voice rang out through the hallway.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
Jiang Peixing was leaning against her office doorframe. Her gaze swept over Lu Yanwei’s tight grip on Shen Shirou’s wrist, and her expression darkened perceptibly.
Shen Shirou’s heart skipped a beat. Why is Jiang Peixing out here too?
She was now certain the plot had utterly crumbled. She had to try and salvage the scene, regardless of whether it would actually work in the long run. At the very least, she had to get Lu Yanwei to leave first, as the book dictated.
Her eyes lit up as she looked toward Jiang Peixing, acting as though she were thrilled to see her. Turning back to Lu Yanwei, she whispered, ” Yanwei, how about I come down to find you in a bit? I want to have a quick word with Sister Jiang first.”
“It’ll be really fast,” Shen Shirou added, as if afraid Lu Yanwei would disagree. “I promise.”
Lu Yanwei’s eyes dimmed. How could she ever refuse Shen Shirou or make things difficult for her? Her grip on Shen Shirou’s wrist gradually loosened.
Lu Yanwei looked up, her gaze meeting Jiang Peixing’s. She stared at the CEO with a flicker of open hostility.
She might be stepping back now, but that didn’t mean she would tolerate Jiang Peixing hurting Shen Shirou ever again.
