A Happy Ending with my Fiancée's Arch-enemy - Chapter 11
Sun Yiyi had already arranged everything without Yu Ning noticing.
To outsiders, Lin Yanqing had never actually offended Sun Yiyi. Even though she was Yu Ning’s friend, Lin Yanqing rarely interacted with her and it was precisely this indifference that made Sun Yiyi hold a grudge against her.
They say that if you like someone, you start by getting close to the people they care about. Take Yu Ning, for example: because she liked Lin Yanqing, she made an effort to maintain good relationships even with friends who weren’t particularly warm toward her. But Lin Yanqing? Not only was she unfriendly toward Yu Ning’s friends, but she also treated Yu Ning poorly. How could Sun Yiyi possibly have a good impression of her?
Sun Yiyi was quite popular at school, and almost everyone she invited showed up on Saturday including Su Yien.
Clearly, Yu Ning hadn’t expected Sun Yiyi to actually invite Su Yien to her birthday party. She had assumed it was just an offhand remark.
Sun Yiyi loved pink, so the party decorations were all in shades of pink, giving the whole scene an extremely girly vibe.
Yu Ning often visited Sun Yiyi’s home and knew the layout like the back of her hand. Before the party officially started, she pulled Sun Yiyi into her room.
“Why did you actually invite Su Yien?” Yu Ning asked as soon as they entered.
Sun Yiyi leisurely settled into the hanging chair in her room, swaying gently a couple of times before replying, “What’s wrong? Does it bother you?”
“It doesn’t bother me, but you know she has a grudge against Lin Yanqing. What if they run into each other? What if she deliberately targets Lin Yanqing?”
“Oh, then we can just sit back, eat snacks, and enjoy the drama,” Sun Yiyi said, clearly unbothered by the potential conflict.
Seeing Sun Yiyi’s attitude, Yu Ning realized she had done it on purpose and felt a little irritated. “You did this intentionally, didn’t you?”
Noticing Yu Ning’s frustration, Sun Yiyi explained, “I didn’t expect Su Yien to actually come! And when I invited her, I made sure to mention that Lin Yanqing would be here too. But she still showed up you know what that means? It means she doesn’t care!”
“If Su Yien isn’t worried, don’t tell me Lin Yanqing is the one who’s afraid?”
Yu Ning was left speechless. This wasn’t about who was afraid or not she was worried the situation might escalate into a conflict where someone ended up getting hurt.
Not only did Yu Ning doubt that Su Yien had no ulterior motives, even Sun Yiyi herself didn’t really believe it. But what did it matter? Sun Yiyi had only one goal: to show Yu Ning how wonderful the world could be beyond Lin Yanqing.
Just as that thought crossed her mind, Sun Yiyi realized she might have made a small mistake. Perhaps she shouldn’t have sent Lin Yanqing an invitation at all.
Miscalculation, miscalculation.
Like Yu Ning, Sun Yiyi came from a very loving family. Originally, her mother had wanted to invite more relatives and friends to celebrate her birthday, but Sun Yiyi had refused.
In fact, to ensure she could enjoy the party with her friends without interruptions, she even persuaded her parents to go out and enjoy some quality time together.
After her chat with Sun Yiyi, Yu Ning went to find Lin Yanqing.
Although Lin Yanqing usually came across as cold and distant, she always agreed to Yu Ning’s requests to attend friends’ parties and events.
However, perhaps because she genuinely disliked such gatherings, her expression at the moment was far from cheerful.
Yu Ning took a plate of small cakes from the dessert stand and walked over to Lin Yanqing, smiling as she offered it to her. “Would you like some cake?”
Lin Yanqing glanced at her, then at the cake in her hand, but said nothing before turning and walking away.
Undeterred, Yu Ning picked up one of the cakes from the plate and took a bite, finding it rather bland.
Just as she was wondering whether to return the plate to the dessert stand, a hand appeared in front of her, picking up one of the cakes from her plate.
A voice sounded beside her ear, “It’s quite sweet. How come the one I had earlier wasn’t this sweet?”
It sounded as though she was speaking to someone else, yet also as if she were talking to herself. Su Yien looked down at the cake in her hand and murmured softly.
Hearing her comment about the cake being sweet, Yu Ning momentarily forgot her initial intention to ask why she had taken her cake and instead asked, “Don’t you think it’s a bit bland? It’s not very sweet.”
“You might not find it sweet, but I do,” Su Yien replied, noticing Yu Ning’s fixed gaze. She added, “Maybe it has something to do with the mood of the person eating it. For example, someone in a bad mood might find everything tasteless, while someone in a good mood might find everything sweet.”
Yu Ning sensed that Su Yien was subtly implying she was in a bad mood and chose to ignore her. She picked up another cake from the plate and tossed it into her mouth.
It wasn’t too bad not as bland as she initially thought. On closer taste, it did seem to have a hint of sweetness.
Seeing Yu Ning eat another cake after her comment, Su Yien found it endearing and couldn’t help but chuckle. “So? Does it taste a little sweeter now?”
Only then did Yu Ning realize she had foolishly followed Su Yien’s suggestion and taken another bite. Annoyed, and not wanting to give Su Yien the satisfaction, she shook her head firmly. “Tasteless.”
As if to emphasize her point, she added, “I’m in a perfectly good mood, thank you.”
Su Yien let out a long “Oh,” then asked, “Why don’t you ask me why I’m in such a good mood?”
Yu Ning certainly wasn’t going to ask such a silly question. What did Su Yien’s mood have to do with her?
Su Yien, anticipating that Yu Ning wouldn’t ask, answered her own question: “Because I ran into you.”
Yu Ning looked at her as if she were an idiot. Seeing Su Yien’s bright, cheerful smile, she hesitated, pursed her lips, and finally said, “Trying to get to me won’t work.”
Clearly, Yu Ning attributed Su Yien’s approach and remarks to an ulterior motive specifically, wanting to get to Lin Yanqing through her.
It wasn’t unreasonable for Yu Ning to think this way. After all, no one approaches another person without a reason, especially given the minor conflicts they’d had in the past.
What Yu Ning considered minor conflicts, however, Su Yien hadn’t taken to heart. Her approach wasn’t driven by the motives Yu Ning suspected it was just that.
Well, Su Yien couldn’t quite put it into words, but she simply found it easy and enjoyable to be around Yu Ning.
Hearing no further response from Su Yien, Yu Ning took it as confirmation that her assumption was correct.
She ignored Su Yien, walked over to the dessert stand, placed the cake plate on an empty shelf, and then headed to the fruit section.
Two people stood in front of the fruit section, discussing recent happenings. Yu Ning and Sun Yiyi had grown up together, so Yu Ning was familiar with almost everyone Sun Yiyi invited. When the three of them crossed paths, they exchanged slight nods.
Yu Ning had been about to leave when she noticed the two suddenly stop and fix their intense gazes behind her. Their faces flushed, and they began whispering while pointing in Yu Ning’s direction.
In truth, their whispers weren’t exactly quiet at least, Yu Ning, standing right in front of them, could hear every word clearly.
Oh, so they were talking about Su Yien. Never mind, then.
Yu Ning picked up a plate of small tangerines Lin Yanqing’s favorite and was just about to leave the fruit area when the two called out to her.
Each of them grabbed one of her arms, turning to her with flushed faces as they asked, “Ningning, who is that Alpha?”
Seeing their eager expressions, Yu Ning replied, “She’s from the class next to ours at school.”
Hearing Yu Ning’s less-than-friendly tone, the two concluded that their relationship couldn’t be good, which put them at ease.
Why were they relieved? Because they had both liked Lin Yanqing before, but Lin Yanqing was Yu Ning’s fiancée, so they couldn’t pursue her. When they saw Su Yien walking behind Yu Ning, they had speculated about their relationship. If Yu Ning was interested in her, they naturally wouldn’t interfere. But judging by Yu Ning’s attitude, this captivating Alpha was fair game.
Seeing their fervent looks and recalling some gossip Sun Yiyi had vaguely mentioned before, Yu Ning pressed her lips together.
These two Omegas had presented long ago and were particularly casual in their private lives, often targeting young Alphas for flings before moving on.
“What’s her name? I think she’s even better-looking than your wooden fiancée,” one of the Omegas teased with a laugh.
“I think so too,” the other chimed in before Yu Ning could retort.
Although they found Lin Yanqing attractive, her aloof personality made her seem like a block of wood to them.
“What’s wrong with your eyes?” Yu Ning was baffled. This wasn’t the first time she’d heard such comments—Sun Yiyi had said something similar before.
The two knew how important Lin Yanqing was to Yu Ning, and they weren’t trying to provoke her; they genuinely felt that way.
After all, qualities like looks and charisma couldn’t be dismissed just because someone else disagreed.
Well, to each their own aesthetic.
Yu Ning didn’t engage further and simply prepared to leave with her plate of tangerines.
Just then, the two Omegas swayed over to Su Yien, pretending to pass by as they picked up glasses of red wine.
“Hello, I’m Qiao Xiaoxiao. You can call me Xiaoxiao.”
“I’m Qiao Miaomiao. You can call me Miaomiao.”
The sisters had rarely been rejected in their lives except by Lin Yanqing so they were brimming with confidence as they struck up a conversation.
Su Yien had grown up being hit on frequently and was used to such scenes. After clinking glasses with the two Omegas, she casually mentioned her name.
“Su Yien? Oh my, your name is so lovely,” Qiao Xiaoxiao giggled, covering her mouth.
“May I call you Yien? It would make us feel closer.” After speaking, Qiao Miaomiao shyly covered her face with her hands.
Putting aside other considerations, these two Omega sisters were indeed enchantingly beautiful and alluring few could resist their charm.
Yu Ning hadn’t left; she was struggling internally, wondering whether Su Yien could withstand such temptation. Although this should be a matter of personal choice…
But what exactly? Yu Ning couldn’t quite articulate it she just felt it would be a pity if Su Yien got deceived?
Ugh, what pity? She’s always targeting your fiancée, and here you are worrying about her are you out of your mind?
Yu Ning stood not far away, watching the three of them chatting and laughing. To her, Su Yien seemed like a piece of meat dangling near a tiger’s mouth, ready to be devoured at any moment.
Su Yien was only eighteen years old after all.
Interfere or not, interfere or not.
After wrestling with her thoughts, just as the two sisters were about to lead Su Yien away, Yu Ning suddenly put down the fruit plate she was holding and rushed in front of them.
The sudden appearance of Yu Ning left all three in a state of bewilderment.
After a couple of seconds, Qiao Xiaoxiao finally asked, “Ningning, is there something else you need?”
Yu Ning understood the underlying meaning in her words: if there’s nothing else, leave quickly.
Gritting her teeth, Yu Ning turned to Su Yien and said, “Didn’t you say you wanted me to show you around the garden? Aren’t we going now?”
Su Yien froze for a moment, as if confused by what she was saying.
Seeing this, Yu Ning regretted her impulsiveness. Why did she have to butt in? Maybe Su Yien was secretly longing to indulge in pleasures she knew nothing about.
She had been reckless.
Just as Qiao Xiaoxiao was about to speak, noticing Su Yien’s lack of response, Su Yien replied, “I thought you’d forgotten. Let’s go then.”
