A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 94
There is no awkwardness or dispute that a night in bed cannot resolve. They settled their mutual dissatisfaction through a bout of hearty, unbridled passion.
In the aftermath, the two wore bathrobes and lay on the loungers on the suite’s open-air balcony. On this early summer night, the sky was carpeted with stars. They gazed at the night sky, leisurely sipping red wine.
The wine glasses clinked with a crisp, clear sound.
After the toast, Gu Yuxi raised his glass toward Luo Panzhi, a hint of laughter dancing behind his lenses. “My thanks to Young Mr. Luo for the fine wine,” he said, before tilting his head back to drain the glass in one go.
Luo Panzhi knew this man had been craving alcohol for a long time. However, to keep Gu’s drinking in check, Luo had dictated that Gu could only drink in his presence, and even then, no more than two glasses.
As Gu finished the wine, Luo’s gaze fell on Gu’s slightly reddened wrist. “Does your hand still hurt?”
Those were the marks left by Luo’s belt during their earlier “activities.”
“It doesn’t hurt. I’m not that fragile,” Gu Yuxi said, sitting up on the edge of the lounger. He set the glass on the small round table between them, resting his chin on his hands as he looked at Luo.
Luo Panzhi, rarely being stared at so intensely by Gu, sat up as well. He mimicked Gu’s posture, resting his chin on his hands to gaze back. Seeing Gu staring so seriously, Luo quirked an eyebrow and nudged Gu’s knee with his own under the table.
Amidst the chorus of summer cicadas, the two simply watched each other, as if trying to engrave the other’s image into their souls.
Gu Yuxi was the first to break into a laugh. He looked away. “Stop looking at me.”
“Lawyer Gu, that’s a false accusation. You looked at me first. How would you know I was looking at you if you weren’t looking at me?” Luo Panzhi’s eyes were full of warmth as he watched the deep curve of Gu’s smile.
Since they got together—and especially since the baby was born—they had rarely had time alone. Unlike ordinary couples, their busy careers meant they seldom had time to just “go out.” This was the first time they had traveled abroad, finished their business in a hotel, and then sat on a balcony enjoying wine in post-coital bliss.
“I haven’t seen you for five days. Can’t I look a little longer?” Gu reached out and touched the ring on Luo’s finger, then looked down at the ring hanging from his own neck.
“I’m not stopping you. You were the one who got shy first.” Luo caught Gu’s gaze as he touched the ring. “I’ve ordered a new set. On our wedding day, we’ll wear the new wedding bands. This one is just the engagement ring.”
Gu shot him a glance. “How do you always know what I’m thinking?”
Luo smirked. “Because I have a ‘deep understanding’ of you, inside and out.”
Gu Yuxi: “…” He narrowed his eyes and reached for Luo’s wine glass. Before he could touch it, Luo pinned his hand down.
“Want a drink?” Luo asked, reminding him they had agreed on just one glass before sleep.
“It’s a waste if you don’t drink it. I just want a sip of yours.”
Luo gave a sly smile. “Sure. But I want to drink ‘imported’ red wine too.”
Gu didn’t quite catch the meaning. He looked confused. “Should I pour another glass?”
Luo shook his head. “I want to drink it ‘mouth-to-mouth’.”
“?” Gu realized he wasn’t on the same wavelength. Before he could process it, he stood up to reach for the wine bottle on Luo’s side.
Luo Panzhi took a mouthful of wine, grabbed Gu by the waist, pulled him onto his lap, and leaned in for a kiss.
Before Gu could react, the warm, mellow liquid was transferred into his mouth. The fragrance and silkiness of the wine bloomed on his tongue. He froze, looking at Luo’s smiling eyes.
“That’s ‘imported’ wine,” Luo Panzhi whispered. He pulled back slightly, holding Gu in his arms as they lay back on the lounger together. He wrapped his legs around Gu possessively and grinned. “Does it taste good?”
Wrapped in Luo’s embrace and smelling his body wash, Gu wiped a drop of wine from his lip. He looked at Luo silently for a few seconds before speaking:
“You’re so cheesy.”
Luo Panzhi: “?!” He looked at Gu with a wounded expression. “Wow, how cruel. Calling your own husband cheesy? No one says that!”
“I do.” Gu glanced at the long, sturdy legs draped over him. They were both wearing nothing but bathrobes and had just finished. He didn’t want to start another fire; he actually wanted to be able to get out of bed and return home tomorrow. “You’re heavy. Move your legs.”
“No.” Luo Panzhi squeezed tighter, refusing to let him go. “Gu Yuxi, it’s just the two of us. Stop acting reserved. You love it when I’m shameless like this.”
Gu Yuxi couldn’t help but laugh. “I don’t know who was acting all ‘reserved’ earlier, saying they didn’t like me in a waist cincher. You’re very hypocritical, Young Mr. Luo.”
“Even so, you can’t call me cheesy! I’m too handsome to be cheesy!” Luo buried his face in the back of Gu’s hair, inhaling the scent. He rubbed his nose against the nape of Gu’s neck. “I’ve realized you were cutest when you were pregnant. Now you aren’t clingy at all. It’s so unfair.”
Luo had noticed his own abnormal behavior lately. It felt a bit like his “rut” period, but different. Because they no longer had a permanent mark, he felt a constant, restless urge to be near Gu. He wanted to possess him more than ever.
Gu felt the tingle as Luo’s nose brushed the gland at his nape. The mark hadn’t completely disappeared, and Luo loved to bite there. It had become a sensitive spot Gu didn’t let anyone else touch.
He pushed Luo’s face away. “Are you ‘Xiao Pan’ (their Corgi)? Stop rubbing against me.”
Luo Panzhi scowled at being compared to the dog. He hugged Gu even tighter and rubbed harder. “I want to! I’m going to! What, I can’t rub against my own wife?”
The friction was ticklish, and Gu broke into laughter. “That’s enough! You really are learning from Xiao Pan.”
Since moving into their new house, the dog had lived with them. Perhaps because they spent so much time together, Luo—who used to be afraid of dogs—had tried his best to overcome it, even if he still jumped onto the sofa when the dog charged at him. Afterward, he would get into shouting matches with the Corgi to see who was louder. Usually, the dog gave up first, unable to beat a human’s vocal cords.
Luo Panzhi could be more childish than a dog when he wanted to be.
As Gu laughed, his cool features softened. The heat of the embrace left his fair cheeks flushed. Luo felt that Gu had become even more beautiful since the birth—less icy, more vibrant.
Luo Panzhi stroked Gu’s brow, his deep eyes full of tender affection. “Do you know why I really came to find you?”
Gu looked at him. This guy was a master of shifting moods—one second playful, the next serious. “Didn’t you say you missed me?”
“There’s another reason.”
“What is it?”
“The wedding is ready. I’m here to take you back to get married.”
The night grew deeper, the starlight and moonlight enveloping the couple on the lounger. The early summer air wasn’t too hot, but the words made Gu’s heart feel scorched.
“…Huh?” Gu Yuxi was stunned. He looked at Luo, his mind struggling to catch up.
They had been preparing for the wedding—choosing the venue, sending invitations—but they hadn’t set a firm date yet. The venue was a hotel under the Galaxy Group, a place that had hosted several Luo family weddings. Gu didn’t have parents or many people to invite, so he hadn’t wanted anything too grand. He thought they still had time.
“I brought a private jet to pick you up. We fly back tomorrow,” Luo said. “That way, you won’t have a chance to escape.”
Gu Yuxi: “…Isn’t that a bit dramatic? Why would I escape?” He then saw Luo’s mysterious smile and felt a sudden premonition.
“Because I’m afraid you’ll find it too ‘socially embarrassing’ and try to run. So, I’m personally escorting you.”
Gu was speechless for a moment. “…Luo Panzhi, don’t do anything crazy.”
He was suddenly nervous. Luo Panzhi, however, beamed with a radiant smile. “Getting married? I’m deadly serious about it.”
The more he said that, the more uneasy Gu felt. What on earth is going to happen at this wedding?
The next morning, the plane flew directly back to China, landing at the helipad of the Night Queen Equestrian Center near the Galaxy Group hotel. It was already 2:00 PM local time. The wedding was set to start at 4:00 PM.
Gu Yuxi had never felt a wedding was such a rushed affair. The unknown was making him feel a mix of confusion and worry. He had no idea what Luo Panzhi had planned.
Well, at least he didn’t have time for pre-wedding jitters.
Behind the equestrian center were several rows of villas. Stepping off the plane, Gu saw Qi Lin, already dressed in a groomsman’s suit, walking toward them.
“Let’s go, Groom. We need to get you changed,” Qi Lin said, smiling as he approached with one hand in his pocket.
Gu Yuxi saw that Qi Lin was already prepared. He looked at Luo Panzhi. It felt like everyone in the world knew today was the wedding except for him.
Qi Lin didn’t wait for Gu to speak. He slung an arm around Gu’s shoulder and led him toward the villa. “Come on, brother, or we’ll be late. You’ll have all night to look at your husband later.”
Gu looked back at Luo Panzhi one last time. Luo was standing on the steps of the plane, waving at him with a grin.
Only when Gu was out of sight did Luo drop his hand and look at Xu Wen, who was waiting at the bottom of the steps. “Is the data ready?”
Xu Wen nodded seriously. “Everything is prepared, Young Mr. Luo.”
Luo Panzhi nodded with satisfaction and walked down the stairs. “Good. Then the Master of Ceremonies—and the Groom—needs to go get ready as well.”
May 20, 2335 — Early Summer.
It was the day of Luo Panzhi and Gu Yuxi’s wedding.
This wedding had no professional MC. Not because they were trying to save money, but because Luo Panzhi believed that no stranger could accurately explain their love story. Only he—the one who lived it—could serve as the MC for the journey he and Gu Yuxi had shared.
