A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 95
Gu Yuxi never expected a wedding to come so abruptly. Although he had never been married, he had attended weddings before; he assumed the process—from planning to the actual day—would take at least a month or two.
They had been preparing for a long time, but no one told him he would be getting married the day after returning from a business trip. Why did weddings just “happen” out of thin air when it came to him?
In front of the full-length mirror, he put on the white suit tailored for him two months after Rongrong’s birth. Staring at his reflection, he felt a sense of trance. It was real. He was getting married in a few minutes.
He couldn’t help but chuckle. “That’s so Luo Panzhi.” The man had literally skipped over the time for anxiety and jitters.
Qi Lin watched his friend in the white wedding suit and sighed with emotion. “You look so handsome. Honestly, I still can’t believe it. You’re actually getting married.”
Adjusting his cuffs, Gu Yuxi accepted the suddenness with a smile. “I’ve already had a child. You don’t find that magical, but you’re getting emotional about the marriage?”
“It’s just… moving, and a bit complicated.” Qi Lin put a hand on Gu’s shoulder, looking at their reflection together. “I’ve had this feeling since Chinese New Year. You didn’t come to my house this year—it felt weird. You’ve spent ten years of New Years with my family. I view you as a younger brother; it feels like you’re being ‘married off’ from our home.”
Gu Yuxi brushed Qi Lin’s hand off. “Married off? Do I look like I need to be ‘married off’?”
“Fine, then Young Mr. Luo is marrying into your life.” Qi Lin’s smile turned mysterious. He pressed a finger to his lips, unable to stop a laugh from escaping.
Gu said, “When you laugh like that, I get a bad premonition.” Luo Panzhi had laughed the exact same way earlier.
“You’ll find out soon. I don’t think anyone else would dare do this at a wedding.” Qi Lin gave a thumbs up. “Your Young Mr. Luo is a true CEO of the Galaxy Group; his way of doing things is certainly unique. I’m looking forward to your reaction.”
Gu Yuxi: “…” He really felt uneasy now.
Because there had been no rehearsal, Gu was guided by Qi Lin until he reached the double doors of the hall. It was only then he realized he had an “elder” representing him today: President Chu Yiqiao.
“Yuxi, I’ll walk you out in a moment and hand you over to Panzhi personally.”
Seeing Chu Yiqiao standing by the doors in formal attire, smiling gently at him, Gu’s eyes reddened instantly. He pursed his lips and took a deep breath to steady his emotions. Luo Panzhi’s thoughtfulness exceeded his imagination; knowing he didn’t have parents, Luo had asked President Chu to stand in as his father.
“The year I married Panzhi’s father, my parents were gone too,” Chu Yiqiao walked over and handed Gu a handkerchief. “There are many things we cannot choose, but it doesn’t matter, because there is someone in this world who will always love you. You are not alone.”
“Thank you, Dad.” Gu took the handkerchief and gripped it tight. To him, President Chu and President Luo were his saviors, mentors, and father figures. But being walked down the aisle by him was a different feeling entirely.
Chu Yiqiao patted his shoulder. “Son, the greatest luck in life is meeting a partner willing to tolerate you, care for you, cherish you, and love you with everything they have. If this is the result of your hardships, think about it—is this not your greatest fortune?”
“I think Panzhi feels the same. He never liked anyone; he was teased for being single by his siblings for years, all while waiting for his ‘greatest fortune’.”
“So, walk out there happily. Walk toward your luck.”
Gu Yuxi considered himself a rational Alpha who rarely cried, but he had underestimated the weight of a wedding. It was entirely different from just signing a marriage certificate. A wedding was about completion.
So, what was waiting behind those doors?
“It’s time. Let’s go.” Qi Lin checked the clock and pushed the doors open.
Gu Yuxi: “?” Why hadn’t he heard an MC speaking?
The moment the doors opened, a minimalist yet grand wedding venue came into view. Everywhere he looked, he saw the initials G & L. At the end of the red carpet, on the stage, he saw the young, handsome Luo Panzhi in a custom black suit.
President Chu was walking him out, the guests were seated—it was a wedding, but the atmosphere was… strange.
Luo Panzhi was holding an electronic clicker. Behind him, on the giant screen, was a PowerPoint presentation titled: Project Annual Summary.
It looked like a corporate board meeting.
Gu Yuxi: “…”
“Lawyer Gu, you’re late for the meeting again. You’re just taking advantage of the fact that I can’t bear to scold you.”
Luo’s voice echoed through the hall. The guests burst into laughter. Gu’s expression was pained. Who does this at their wedding? And he didn’t “frequently” arrive late!
“Sit down quickly, the meeting is about to start,” Luo said sternly. “Otherwise, people will say I’m using my power for personal gain and being biased.”
Gu was caught between laughter and tears. “Where do I sit?”
He saw President Chu go to sit at the main table with Luo Zhougong, so he moved to follow, but Luo Panzhi called out from the stage.
“Lawyer Gu, your seat is here.”
Gu followed the direction of Luo’s finger and turned around in confusion. Right in the middle of the red carpet he had just walked down, there was a single chair.
He: “…” His head began to ache. He was supposed to sit in the middle of the aisle?
“Luo Panzhi, you—”
“Tsk. In public, you call me ‘Young Mr. Luo’. Names are for when we get home,” Luo winked and teased.
More laughter from the guests. Gu had no choice but to sit in the chair, facing Luo Panzhi directly. Once Gu was settled, Luo turned to the screen and clicked to the next slide. It contained only four words:
【Love at First Sight】
“Today is May 20, 2335. Everyone knows about the ‘Love at First Sight’ project. I took it over on February 23, 2333. To be honest, this project was very difficult.”
Gu was stunned.
Luo Panzhi, holding the clicker, looked at the family and friends with the same composure he used for group meetings. “Before I started this project, I never believed I could pull it off. After all, before this, I was always the ‘eternal single’ in the center of our family photos.”
The room erupted in laughter. Gu Yuxi covered his face. Only Luo Panzhi would think to turn a wedding into an annual report.
“I want to thank Lawyer Gu, who has been a pillar of support in this project. His appearance taught me that this project wasn’t as hard as I thought.” Luo looked at Gu in his white suit, his lips curling into a smile. “It only takes two people to complete it.”
Behind him, Jian Wenxing started clapping like a seal. “Wuhu!! Young Mr. Luo is the best!!”
“So today, I, Luo Panzhi, will provide the annual summary for the ‘Love at First Sight’ project. The summary is as follows.” Luo clicked to the next slide.
It was a photo of Gu Yuxi asleep at his desk.
Gu’s eyes widened. Is he trying to kill me with embarrassment?
“As the project initiator, I have been diligent this year. I never woke Lawyer Gu when he was sleepy. To ensure he had a peaceful rest, I monitored his nap times and delivered his favorite Americano the moment he woke up with a thoughtful ‘Thank you for your hard work,’ laying a solid foundation for our future.”
The laughter was deafening. Gu Yuxi wished there were a hole in the floor he could crawl into.
The slides continued, showing photos Gu had never seen—secretly taken by Luo when he wasn’t looking. Every photo was “un-lawyer-like,” and every serious explanation had the guests clutching their sides with laughter.
Then, a slide appeared with three photos of Luo Panzhi outside an operating room. One of him holding his head in despair, one of him staring at the red “In Progress” light, and one of him kneeling on the floor.
Gu Yuxi froze. His eyes filled with tears instantly. The date on the last photo was November 20, 2334—the day of his massive postpartum hemorrhage.
“Because Lawyer Gu and I cooperated so well, the project progressed rapidly. But during the process, due to my negligence, many things happened.” Luo stared at Gu, not looking at the screen. “These three photos represent three things that happened in this project that I will never forget.”
“I don’t even dare to look at these photos, because I’m afraid I’ll cry.”
Luo’s voice began to tremble. This Alpha, who had just been making everyone laugh, was now struggling for composure.
“I’ve never faced much failure in my life. I was a ‘chosen son’, I had heavy responsibilities, I am the CEO. But in this project, I faced five major setbacks. The first was when Lawyer Gu refused to cooperate; I cried. The second was when he was framed and suffered a massive nasal hemorrhage; I cried. The third was when I lost my temper and accidentally hurt him, almost losing my partner; I cried. The fourth was when he was in a car accident on the day of my business trip; I cried.”
“And the last time… the day Lawyer Gu gave birth to our third partner. I will never forget it.” Luo Panzhi couldn’t hold back his tears anymore. He looked at Gu and choked out, “I signed three critical condition notices. My world collapsed. I ended up kneeling before the surgery doors, begging the heavens not to take you. I didn’t know what I would do without you.”
Gu Yuxi watched Luo cry, his heart aching. Luo had never told him these things.
Luo smiled through his tears. “That night, I had to sign another consent form for the removal of your reproductive chamber, knowing our mark would vanish. I signed it. I’ve signed many things in my life, but I never felt my name was so hard to write. It was the ugliest signature I’ve ever made. I never want to sign a name like that again.”
“Gu Yuxi, I don’t care about great achievements or being a great man. I only want you to be safe, healthy, and by my side, so I can love you and protect you with everything I have.”
The laughter was gone. The room was filled with the sound of quiet sobbing.
Just then, the family Corgi, Xiao Pan, and Qi Lin’s Pomeranian ran down the red carpet, pulling a small stroller.
“Woof woof!” “Ba-ba-ba!”
Accompanied by the dogs and baby Rongrong’s babbling, Luo Panzhi walked down the stage toward Gu Yuxi.
Gu realized how much Luo must have overcome his fear of dogs to plan this. Luo reached the stroller and picked up two ring boxes that had been resting on the baby. He knelt on one knee before Gu Yuxi.
“Lawyer Gu, the ‘Love at First Sight’ project is successfully completed. Based on my hard work, would you like to challenge the ‘Growing Old Together’ project with me?”
“Young Mr. Luo, such an easy project isn’t a challenge.” Gu Yuxi leaned down, grabbed Luo’s collar, and kissed him.
The hall erupted in cheers. Rose petals fell from the ceiling, and the champagne tower began to flow.
For them, growing old together wasn’t a challenge. Because loving each other had become an instinct.
Hello, Mr. Luo. Today is May 20, 2335. Hello, Mr. Gu. Today is May 20, 2335. We are finally married.
