A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 78
As it turned out, it wasn’t just that Gu Yuxi needed him—it was that Luo Panzhi himself was utterly defenseless against this man. His self-control wavered the very second Gu Yuxi drew close. His intellect screamed at him that he couldn’t let his resolve crumble entirely, or he might inadvertently hurt Gu.
Luo had no choice but to demand that Gu Yuxi behave and stay still, letting Luo take the lead. But Gu Yuxi was never one to be passive. Had he not been pregnant, it might have been different, but with his large belly and his assertive, fiery temperament, he ended up in tears by the end of it.
Because it hurt.
Luo Panzhi couldn’t help but lose his temper again. He pulled away immediately.
“Gu Yuxi, if you keep being this disobedient, I’m really not going to cooperate with you. I’ve told you so many times that we can’t do it like that, but you insisted.” Luo’s tone was stern. Seeing Gu’s reddened eyes, he knew it was from the pain. “Now you know it hurts, don’t you? That was far too much force.”
Despite his lecture, his hands were already gently massaging Gu’s belly.
Gu Yuxi felt a dull discomfort in his abdomen. He hadn’t expected to use so much force; the weight of his belly had added an unintended momentum to his movements. “I didn’t mean to. It does hurt a little.”
“What kind of pain? Do I need to call the doctor?” Luo Panzhi felt a surge of regret. He really shouldn’t have given in the moment Gu Yuxi started acting spoiled.
“Just a little. It’s okay, not too bad. It should pass after some rest.” Hearing Luo’s stern tone, Gu Yuxi reached out to wrap his arms around the Alpha’s waist. Though it hadn’t been the most “exhilarating” experience, he felt satisfied. “If I can have a hug tomorrow too, I’ll definitely listen to you.”
Luo Panzhi let out a frustrated laugh. “You’re already thinking about tomorrow? From now until the baby’s one-month celebration, I’m not touching you. Forget about tomorrow; consider yourself under a vow of celibacy.”
Gu Yuxi: “…?!” His lips trembled, a retort dying on his tongue.
“I’m serious. For you, and for the baby.” Seeing Gu about to argue, Luo continued, “Besides, I promised you before—once the baby is born, you can have as much as you want.”
Recognizing the finality in Luo’s voice, Gu Yuxi felt a pang of annoyance at his own stubbornness earlier. He clung to Luo, trying to negotiate some leeway. “But that’s so far away! Can’t we just wait until right after the birth?”
“You need time to recover after giving birth, don’t you? If you don’t heal properly, you’ll have health problems later.” Luo wondered if Gu was only focused on this because he had nothing to do since he stopped working. “Are you bored at home? Is there anything you want to do?”
“It’s not boredom.”
“Then why?”
“Because it’s you.” Gu Yuxi rested his head on Luo’s arm, tracing the lines of his face. “I want you when you’re on business trips, I want you when I’m alone, and I want you even more when you deny me. Whenever I see you, I just… want you. I can’t help it. I wasn’t like this before. Maybe it’s because I love you more with every passing day.”
His fingertips were warm, and the way his slightly raspy voice carried that touch of a plea made Luo’s heart tremble. It was a classic case of karma; Luo used to be the one acting this way toward Gu Yuxi, and now the roles were reversed. Was it effective? It was devastatingly effective.
“Baby, are you learning this from me?”
Gu Yuxi smiled at the question. “Is it working?”
“Very much so.”
“Then why are you still holding back?”
“Because there’s a baby in your belly, and as a father, I have to be responsible. Besides, I don’t think I act exactly like this when I’m being clingy.”
“Yes, you do. You’re exactly like this, sometimes even worse.”
“And yet, it’s because you were ‘worse’ that I fell for you.”
Luo Panzhi looked down into Gu’s eyes, a smirk playing on his lips. “So you admit you were enchanted by me back then? You had a crush on me. Of course, the feeling was mutual.”
“You call what you did a ‘secret’ crush?”
“What else would you call it?”
“If you stand next to a fire, do you not feel the heat?” Gu Yuxi leaned in to kiss Luo’s lips, gazing at him intensely. “Luo Panzhi, you are the fire. Bright and hot.”
You melted my invincibility, Gu thought. You made me accept love as my willing weakness. Everyone changes for love, and Gu Yuxi knew his change was simply accepting Luo Panzhi’s overwhelming affection. No one could withstand such a deluge of love; no one could resist being doted on by Luo Panzhi.
“I’m truly happy that you can love me.”
Luo Panzhi held Gu Yuxi tighter, resting his chin on the other man’s head with a satisfied sigh. “Silly. I’m the one who loved you first, remember?”
“I was the one who sought out Galaxy Group just to see you.”
“Well, I liked you from the very first moment I saw you.”
“I used to spy on you every day through that one-way mirror.”
“I spent every day trying to find excuses to go to the office next door to see you.”
“You have a massive attraction for me.”
“The first time I saw you, I wanted to marry you—even if you were an Alpha.”
Gu Yuxi burst into laughter in Luo’s arms. “Fine, Young President Luo. You win.”
Luo Panzhi kissed the top of his head. “You didn’t lose either, Lawyer Gu. By winning me, you’ve won the whole world.”
Gu Yuxi nodded. “Yes. You are my world.”
In this life, ever since he was old enough to understand, Gu had known he had no parents. Whether he was abandoned or kidnapped, he had never felt a strong connection to his past. Growing up without a family environment meant the concept of “home” was blurry and unappealing to him.
It wasn’t until he met and fell in love with Luo Panzhi that he truly understood that love brings joy, and home provides a sense of belonging. This was the meaning of life: to have something to look forward to. Like looking forward to Luo Panzhi coming home from a trip to embrace him—that feeling of being held by the whole world, a sensation so moving it brought him to tears.
He was certain that falling in love with Luo Panzhi was the best decision he had ever made.
After a quiet moment in bed, the two showered and sat down for breakfast. Before eating, Gu Yuxi brought over “Xiao Pan,” their pet, to play with for a bit. True to his current routine, he started with a glass of sweet milk, downing it as if it were a shot.
Luo Panzhi placed a bowl of oatmeal in front of him, watching Gu’s “drinking spirit” with a helpless expression. “Sweet milk is meant to be enjoyed. You don’t have to gulp it down like that; it’s 200ml, you’ll be full before the meal.” He nudged Xiao Pan away from his feet.
“I don’t think it tastes that good anyway.” Gu Yuxi set the glass down and looked at his oatmeal. “Is this it? Nothing else?”
Luo Panzhi knew the man’s appetite. He was an Alpha, after all, and a pregnant one at that—his intake had increased significantly, along with his pickiness. “What else do you want? I’ll make it for you.”
“Egg pancakes.”
“You got it.” Luo Panzhi headed to the open kitchen.
Gu Yuxi rested his chin on his hand, watching Luo in his apron. “Baby, why do you know how to do everything? When did you have time to learn to cook?”
“My eldest father taught me. He’s a great cook; he handles most of the meals at home.” Luo Panzhi skillfully spread the batter, drizzling whisked egg over it. When it was nearly set, he expertly tossed the pan to flip the pancake.
With the heater on, Luo wore a white short-sleeved shirt that revealed the smooth, powerful lines of his muscles as he worked. The blend of domestic warmth and raw masculine energy was a captivating sight.
“Has anyone ever told you that you look sexy when you cook?” Gu Yuxi asked, taking a sip of oatmeal.
“Yes,” Luo Panzhi replied with a grin.
“Who?” Gu Yuxi’s mind immediately went to whether he had cooked for someone else. His family wouldn’t use the word “sexy,” so it had to be someone he was intimate with.
Luo Panzhi looked up, catching the subtle shift in Gu’s expression. He couldn’t help but laugh. “You.”
Gu Yuxi: “…Oh.” He lowered his head and drank his porridge, his brief spark of jealousy extinguished.
“Do you have plans for today?” Luo Panzhi brought the pancakes to the table and sat across from him. “Want to go out?”
“Yes.”
“Where to?”
“A bar.”
Luo’s face dropped. “Sir, look at your stomach. Do you think a crowded place like that is appropriate?”
“A bowling alley then.”
Luo remained expressionless. “Are you going there to bowl, or are you the ball?”
Gu Yuxi tried another: “A pool hall.”
Luo thought for a moment. It sounded better, but then he pictured the bending involved. He shook his head. “No. Pool requires too much bending and stretching. You can’t do that right now; you’ll get a stomachache.”
“Then why did you even ask me?” Gu Yuxi put his spoon down, staring at him gloomily. “Everything I want to do, you won’t let me. This conversation is pointless.”
Seeing him get upset, Luo sighed. “It’s not that I won’t let you; it’s just not safe. You’re five months along; you can’t do any strenuous movements.”
“Fine. Let’s go clothes shopping then,” Gu Yuxi said. “For boys’ clothes.”
Luo Panzhi: “…” Great. He was angry now and being contrary on purpose.
“I want to buy lots of boys’ clothes,” Gu Yuxi said between bites. “You bought too many dresses. We’ll pack them away later to make room for little suits.”
“Baby,” Luo reached out to touch his hand, trying to save his vision. “Dresses are so cute. Don’t pack them away; it has to be an Omega.”
Gu Yuxi looked up coolly. “Who’s the one giving birth, you or me?”
Luo Panzhi slowly retracted his hand and gave a polite, silent nod.
Gu Yuxi stirred his oatmeal. “I think it’s a boy. So I’m buying suits and sportswear. Is there a problem?”
Luo Panzhi realized he was in the doghouse. Anything he said now would be wrong. “No. No problem at all.”
“And packing away your little dresses?”
Luo smiled. “No problem, Boss. I’ll do whatever you say.”
“Then it’s settled.” Gu Yuxi lowered his head and continued his meal with elegant deliberation.
Luo Panzhi wanted to cry. Ah! My little dresses!
