A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 77
He finally managed to coax him to sleep.
Luo Panzhi gazed at Gu Yuxi, who was fast asleep with half his face buried under the quilt. Perhaps because he had cried quite hard earlier, his eyelids were still red and swollen, and tears still clung to his eyelashes. Luo gently wiped them away with the back of his hand.
At that slight touch, Gu stirred, causing Luo to freeze in place, his expression stiffening with caution. Only after several minutes, once he was certain Gu was sound asleep, did he finally breathe a sigh of relief.
He then thought of boiling two eggs to compress Gu’s eyes; otherwise, they would surely be swollen when he woke up tomorrow. As he carefully rolled out of bed, he saw the phone on the nightstand vibrate. He immediately grabbed it and switched it to silent.
It was Gu Yuxi’s phone. The moment he turned it on, a message popped up.
[Legal Dept – Xu Rui]: Lawyer Gu, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean what I said earlier. I wasn’t targeting you or suggesting that the zoonotic outbreak in L-Province was related to your secondary differentiation. I am very sorry if I offended you.
Luo Panzhi’s face darkened instantly.
So, the reason Gu Yuxi had been crying was because of the loose tongues in the Legal Department?
He opened the chat interface. Scrolling down, he saw mostly work groups. Gu Yuxi’s social circle was simple; the top two conversations were with Xu Rui and the Group Legal Department’s chat.
He clicked into the group chat and saw a critical message:
[ZK]: I heard the World Health Organization approached Galaxy Group because of the zoonotic disease outbreak triggered by the secondary differentiation event in L-Province. Lately, most of the group’s high-level executives have been showing up. It’s rare to see President Chu and President Luo appear at the group headquarters together, which means this matter must be very serious.
There were also “message retracted” notifications below. It was clear that whatever had been retracted was what had upset Gu Yuxi, coupled with Xu Rui’s subsequent apology.
Rage surged within Luo Panzhi. He strode out of the bedroom, closing the door softly so as not to wake Gu, and went to the study to call his assistant, Xu Wen.
“Young President Luo, what are your orders?”
Luo Panzhi stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, one hand casually in his pocket, his gaze deep and fixed on the world outside. “Investigate Xu Rui from the Legal Department tomorrow. I want his chat records from the department group last night, and I want the retracted content recovered.”
On the other end of the line, Xu Wen was stunned by this sudden investigation. “What happened?”
Luo Panzhi let out a cold, low laugh. “As a lawyer, does he not understand that rumors carry liability? Galaxy Group’s Legal Department has no need for such a person. Whether his harm was intentional or accidental, the damage is done. He made Lawyer Gu cry; he must pay the price for what he did.”
Xu Wen was shocked. Someone actually made Lawyer Gu cry?! Young President Luo would be livid. Given how much he doted on Lawyer Gu, whoever did this was in deep trouble.
“Also,” Luo Panzhi continued, his voice devoid of emotion, “starting tomorrow, post an announcement across all departments. Anyone found gossiping about the L-Province outbreak being related to Lawyer Gu will be dismissed immediately. Galaxy Group has no room for such people.” If he heard it himself, it wouldn’t be as simple as a dismissal. “And suppress all news keywords related to this. I don’t want him seeing them again.”
Public rumors were a formidable force; these whispers could unintentionally wound Gu Yuxi. Moreover, Gu was pregnant and could not afford such emotional volatility.
“Understood.”
After hanging up, Luo Panzhi went to the kitchen to boil the eggs. While he was busy, his elder brother, Chu Guzhi, called. He shouldered the phone while peeling the hot eggs. “Hello, Zuo Gu?”
“Uncle, don’t forget my son’s one-month celebration in two days.”
Luo Panzhi’s fingertips turned red from the heat of the eggs. He hissed at the sting. “I know, I won’t forget. Isn’t Xiao Yu’s twins’ celebration in two weeks?”
“Yeah, two weeks. By the way, how is Lawyer Gu? I heard he’s resting at home. Is he feeling unwell?”
Luo Panzhi couldn’t help but complain: “Brother, you really need to scold Dad and the others for me. How could they let Yuxi undergo that BO neutralizing agent reaction test while he’s pregnant? Even if the test itself is fine, he’s still pregnant. What if something happened? They actually conspired with Yuxi to keep me in the dark and do it secretly.”
“Ah… that is indeed not great. Lawyer Gu’s constitution is unique, and he’s had many injections to stabilize the pregnancy. If it were me, I wouldn’t have agreed either.”
Luo Panzhi held the peeled egg in his hand. “Right? You think so too. Gu Yuxi is always thinking of how to help me; he won’t let himself rest even while pregnant. He keeps me in constant anxiety. He fainted right after the test this morning; I nearly lost my mind.”
“Really? How is he now?”
“Hypoglycemia. I gave him glucose. I’ll have him eat more sweets lately to recover.”
“How did he get hypoglycemia? Luo Panzhi, that’s on you. How did you take care of him? I’m carrying twins and I didn’t even have low blood sugar.”
Luo Panzhi was speechless. “Brother, you love sweets so much it would be a miracle if you had low blood sugar. My partner doesn’t like sweets at all, okay? I have to coax him to eat them.”
Chu Guzhi let out a laugh. “Alright, ‘Right Panzhi.’ You’ve truly broken your ‘lonely Alpha’ curse. Every sentence is ‘my partner this’ and ‘my partner that.'”
“What, am I not allowed to show off after you guys have spent years flaunting your relationships in front of me?”
“It’s just refreshing. I didn’t expect you to be so doting,” Chu Guzhi chuckled. “By the way, I’ve named my sons. The eldest is Chu Beiheng, and the younger is Yan Nanshen. Xiao Yu’s daughter is Luo Xitang, and the son is Yuan Donglin.”
Luo Panzhi: “…” Great. East, South, West, and North (Dong, Nan, Xi, Bei) were all taken. What about his kid? He was only missing ‘Up’ and ‘Down’ now. “Mine will be nicknamed Rongrong.”
Chu Guzhi couldn’t help but laugh. “Sounds like an Omega’s name.”
Luo Panzhi sounded confident. “Mine will definitely be an Omega.”
“Brother, I wish you luck with your guess.”
Luo Panzhi didn’t chat long. After hanging up, he hurried back to the room with the warm eggs to compress Gu Yuxi’s eyes.
The man on the bed was breathing steadily, completely unaware of the movement on his eyes, nor did he know that the Alpha sitting beside him held the two eggs motionless for half an hour.
It was a very comfortable sleep.
Luo Panzhi’s eyes were filled with nothing but indulgence. Even though his hand grew tired, he was entirely willing.
The next morning.
Luo Panzhi woke up early to prepare fresh ingredients delivered by the helper. He simmered a soup for Gu Yuxi’s afternoon meal and then started on breakfast. Just as he finished, his father, Luo Qingye, called. He figured it was the perfect time to settle the score for yesterday’s incident.
In the bedroom, Gu Yuxi woke up and instinctively reached out to feel the side of the bed. It was cold. He lay still, staring blankly at the ceiling, pursing his lips with a sense of lingering desire.
He truly felt unsatisfied. He had a wonderful dream last night—a dream where Luo Panzhi held him for a long time. They had sweated a lot. It was thorough and exhilarating.
Suddenly feeling a wave of nausea, he got up and ran to the bathroom to retch. Perhaps he had eaten too much yesterday; the vomiting was painful. He bent over, his waist aching, supporting his weight with a hand pressed against the edge of the toilet. It took several minutes for the feeling to pass.
He stood at the sink to rinse his mouth and brush his teeth. Gu Yuxi stared at his reflection. He felt he had gained a little more weight. He lifted his shirt and looked at his protruding belly with a solemn expression; his abs were officially gone.
After washing up, he remained in front of the mirror. He glanced at the bathroom door, thinking of the dream. He walked back to the toilet, closed the lid, and sat down.
However…
He discovered that with his large belly, reaching out was difficult. Whether he tried from the front or the back, it was awkward. His wandering thoughts were like a fire being extinguished, yet he felt a stubborn urge to try harder, which only made him more anxious.
His eyes reddened with frustration. He leaned back, hoping it would be easier, but the water tank poked his back painfully. He frowned, though it was slightly better.
Beads of sweat formed on his forehead, and his breathing quickened. He tilted his neck back, his loose pajamas revealing the hollows of his collarbones with every deep breath.
In the middle of his second trimester, his belly was growing rapidly. Unlike the first four months, the fifth month showed a marked increase in size, and he began to feel clumsy. Bending over or any large movement became slow.
Yet, it was precisely during this stable mid-pregnancy period that certain desires became more frequent. Because Luo Panzhi had been upset and hadn’t held him lately, it felt even more difficult. Having been deprived for so long, the dream he had last night left him yearning even after waking.
But he couldn’t manage it on his own. His belly got in the way; no matter which way he turned, he couldn’t achieve what he wanted. His eyes grew moist with frustration, and he even began to feel angry at how fast his belly was growing.
Gu Yuxi’s fingertips trembled, and he looked down, feeling increasingly distressed.
Outside, having finished his business, Luo Panzhi walked out of the study. He entered the bedroom to see if Gu Yuxi was awake. Finding the bed empty, he looked toward the bathroom.
Just then, he heard a muffled, sobbing sound from inside. His expression darkened, and he rushed to the bathroom.
As he pushed the door open, Luo Panzhi’s adrenaline spiked. The scene before him left him stunned.
His Lawyer Gu was sitting on the toilet lid, belly protruding, reaching out clumsily but failing to manage. Seeing Luo enter, Gu’s eyes turned completely red, and he looked up with utter grievance.
Gu Yuxi felt defeated and miserable. Seeing Luo Panzhi push the door open, he didn’t even feel shy. His eyes were wet with a hint of anger as he reached out toward the man.
“Baby, I can’t reach. I can’t do it.”
His voice echoed in the bathroom with a sob, filled with dissatisfied grievance and anger. This once cold and formidable Lawyer Gu had finally been defeated by his own pregnancy belly, driven to tears by his own frustration.
Luo Panzhi’s gaze fell on Gu Yuxi’s outstretched hand, noticing the moisture on his palm. He felt a jolt of stimulation; his heart skipped a beat. What else was this man capable of? How many different sides did he have?
And how did he manage to make Luo’s heart race like this, no matter what he did?
Luo Panzhi looked away, rubbing his forehead as he let out a laugh. He was completely defeated. He walked over to Gu Yuxi, knelt down, and helped him adjust his clothes. “It’s cold in here. You’ll catch a cold like this.”
Gu Yuxi let him fix his clothes, his mood still low since he hadn’t found any relief. “I couldn’t reach just now. Even when I did, it wasn’t comfortable. Baby, I feel uncomfortable.”
“Do you want it that much?” Luo Panzhi looked up at Gu Yuxi, seeing his tear-reddened eyes.
“Yes,” Gu Yuxi nodded.
“Okay,” Luo Panzhi replied.
Gu Yuxi’s eyes lit up, as if he could already taste the sweetness. “Can you hold me now?”
Luo Panzhi smiled. “Yes, I’ll hold you.”
Satisfied, Gu Yuxi reached out both arms, looking eager.
Luo Panzhi was helplessly indulgent. He picked the man up, holding him securely face-to-face, and carried him out of the bathroom.
A pregnant Lawyer Gu who knew how to act spoiled was truly a force to be reckoned with.
