A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 79
The December weather grew colder by the day, with frequent snowfall. As they arrived at the mall, Luo Panzhi naturally took an umbrella and walked to the passenger side, opening the door to shield Gu Yuxi from the cold.
The moment Gu stepped out of the car, he couldn’t help but shiver. He looked at Luo and murmured, “It’s so cold.”
Luo Panzhi held the umbrella with one hand and took Gu’s hand with the other, tucking it into his large overcoat pocket. “It’s alright. You have a human hand-warmer now; you’ll be warm in a moment.”
“Your hands really are warm.” Gu Yuxi let out a soft sigh the moment their hands met. He wasn’t sure if it was because of the pregnancy, but he—who had never feared the cold before—had become particularly sensitive to the chill lately.
“Otherwise, why would you like my hands so much?” Luo Panzhi teased with a smile.
Gu Yuxi: “…” He gave the man a sidelong glance. Teasing again. Luo was doing it on purpose, and it was truly too much.
Noticing Gu’s resentful gaze, Luo Panzhi simply smiled without a word, wrapping an arm around his shoulders as they entered the shopping mall.
The mall was bustling with people. Two exceptionally handsome Alphas followed by bodyguards were bound to be an eye-catching sight. While “Young President Luo” was long accustomed to the spotlight, he remained calm and composed as he led his partner into a children’s clothing store.
Gu Yuxi, however, felt a bit out of place. Unlike Luo, who often conducted inspections across Galaxy Group’s vast array of subsidiaries—including hotels and major shopping centers—Gu wasn’t used to such public scrutiny. Being watched here felt different from the focused attention of a courtroom or a lecture hall. The looks from the passersby weren’t professional or serious; they were filled with curiosity and gossip.
“Young President Luo, it’s been a long time.” The store manager’s eyes lit up the moment she saw them. She greeted them with her best professional smile, and when she saw the man beside Luo, her eyes sparked with recognition. “This must be Lawyer Gu. Seeing you in person… you and Young President Luo truly are a perfect match.”
Gu Yuxi: “…?” He looked at Luo Panzhi with confusion, wondering when Luo had even met this manager.
Luo Panzhi nodded with a polite smile. “Yes, it’s him. We’re here today to look at some boys’ clothing.”
The manager smiled and asked, “Does Lawyer Gu not like the little dresses you bought last time? We recently received many co-branded pieces—a ‘Princess Series’ that little girls absolutely adore. Would you like to take a look?”
Gu Yuxi’s heart sank. He knew how much Luo Panzhi loved princess dresses; if he didn’t intervene, the man would likely go overboard again.
Sure enough, Luo Panzhi’s eyes sparkled at the mention of a “Princess Series.” His dream of turning his child into a storybook princess began to flare up again. But in the next second, he felt a sharp pinch from inside his coat pocket. He gasped, looking at Gu Yuxi in shock.
“What is it, baby?”
Though the word “baby” wasn’t shouted, it was clear enough for everyone nearby to hear. Heads turned in their direction.
Gu Yuxi could admit that his skin was only “thick as a fortress wall” when he was alone with Luo in private. In public, his skin was perhaps the thinnest in the world. He gave Luo a flat, chilling look.
Luo Panzhi looked back blankly, sensing that Gu’s mood had shifted. “What’s wrong, baby? Are you feeling unwell?”
“Do I need to get you a microphone so you can shout ‘baby’ for the whole mall to hear?” Gu Yuxi felt the manager’s gaze on him. He yanked his hand out of Luo’s pocket and turned away, pretending to examine some children’s clothes.
However, he couldn’t hide the deep crimson creeping up his ears.
The store manager, a perceptive Omega, kept her professional smile but found Luo’s expression quite novel. “Lawyer Gu seems a bit unhappy. Do you need to go coax him?”
Luo Panzhi spread his hands helplessly, his gaze following Gu’s back with pure indulgence. “Of course. He’s pregnant; he’s my boss right now.”
“Emotional swings during pregnancy can feel irrational even to the person experiencing them,” the manager noted. “I went through it myself after giving birth two years ago. Most of the time, you aren’t even truly angry.”
Luo Panzhi knew this well. This man only let his guard down in private; in front of others, he was the “Flower on a High Ridge”—proud, dignified, and serious. Being called “baby” in public was simply too much for his pride to handle.
“We’ll just browse on our own. Go ahead with your work,” Luo said to the manager before stroking over to Gu Yuxi.
Gu Yuxi was staring at a little dress. He wasn’t actually looking at it; he was just staring blankly, wondering if he was being needlessly moody. It was just a nickname, after all. Yet he had snapped at Luo in front of so many people when the man hadn’t actually done anything wrong.
He let out a tiny sigh. He seemed unable to control these erratic emotions lately. He really should apologize.
“Is the dress pretty?”
Gu’s hand froze on the fabric. He turned his head in surprise, not realizing Luo was standing so close. His lips accidentally brushed against Luo’s cheek.
Luo Panzhi touched the spot where he’d been “kissed,” looking at Gu with a half-smile. “Trying to use a kiss to make me stop being angry?”
Gu Yuxi’s eyes flickered. It had been an accident, but he was surprised that Luo had read his mind—and even more grateful that Luo had given him a graceful “way out” of his own moodiness.
“Does it work?” he asked, looking up at Luo with an apologetic gaze.
Seeing Gu look so “wronged” and vulnerable, Luo Panzhi suppressed a laugh and nodded. “Of course it works. Besides, I wasn’t angry.” He understood completely; he had spent the last few months catering to every whim.
Pregnant Gu Yuxi had different tastes and a different temperament, but every change only made Luo’s heart soften further. These changes were happening because of him, because Gu was carrying their child. Pregnancy was a monumental feat; how could he possibly be upset over a little bit of temper? Compared to the sacrifice of childbirth, a small tantrum was nothing. Even if Gu truly yelled at him, Luo would never dream of talking back.
“Really?” Gu Yuxi felt a bit embarrassed. He glanced around the store and saw that the bodyguards were standing outside the entrance, and no other customers were inside. Only then did he take Luo’s hand and look down. “I didn’t mean to snap at you like that. I’m just… not used to you calling me ‘baby’ in public.”
“Do you feel shy?” Luo Panzhi asked with a smile.
“A little,” Gu admitted truthfully.
Luo Panzhi squeezed his hand and brushed his knuckles against Gu’s cheek. “Then I’ll be careful next time. Should I call you ‘Lawyer Gu’ in public?”
“Would that be too formal?” Gu Yuxi worried. Their relationship wasn’t a secret, so calling him by his title might seem like they were trying too hard to be professional.
“Not at all.” Luo led him deeper into the store. “Lawyer Gu, calling each other by our titles can be a bit of roleplay, too. As long as we don’t use full names, any nickname is fine.”
Gu Yuxi felt himself being “coaxed” back into a good mood again. He bit back a smile. “Alright. You have a point, Young President Luo.”
Luo Panzhi caught the smile out of the corner of his eye, his own lips curving deeply. Coaxing Gu Yuxi was the easiest thing in the world to him, and he enjoyed every second of it.
As they wandered through the massive store, Gu Yuxi noticed Luo Panzhi lingering by the dresses several times, looking like he was itching to buy them. Gu hadn’t been involved in the previous shopping for their new home; Luo had done it all himself. This was his first time out shopping with Luo since reaching his fifth month of pregnancy.
He realized now just how strong Luo’s shopping impulse was. It was the polar opposite of his own. Gu didn’t like window shopping and wasn’t good at picking things out, which resulted in Luo handling everything after their marriage—from household items to Gu’s suits, shoes, and even his underwear.
He had never seen a man so skilled at shopping. And this wasn’t just any man; this was the President of Galaxy Group. It seemed a truly successful man had to be a family man first to achieve great things.
Seeing Luo staring at a dress on a high rack without reaching for it, Gu Yuxi reached out to take it down for him. But the moment he moved, Luo caught his hand.
“What are you doing?” Luo’s expression darkened as he held Gu’s hand firmly. “If you want something, just tell me. You shouldn’t be reaching up like that; you’ll strain your stomach.”
“No, I just saw you looking at this dress several times. If you want it, just buy it.”
Luo Panzhi arched an eyebrow. “Oh? Didn’t you say we were buying little suits? The new house is already full of dresses. If I buy more, we won’t have room.”
“Then I won’t buy the suits. Let’s buy what you like.” Gu Yuxi figured one more dress wouldn’t hurt.
To his surprise, Luo Panzhi simply waved the manager over. He gestured casually toward the entire wall of the dress section. “Everything here. I’ll take it all.”
Gu Yuxi: “…???” He grabbed Luo’s arm in disbelief. “I thought you meant one?”
There were at least a hundred dresses in that section. This was beyond ridiculous.
Luo Panzhi smiled. “I wasn’t looking at just one; I was looking at the whole collection. They’re all new arrivals, and I like them all.” He turned back to the manager. “Pack them all in sizes from six months to six years and send them to the Jiangtian Yisu address. You have the details.”
Jiangtian Yisu was the location of their new home.
The manager beamed and nodded. “Understood. I’ll have the staff prepare it immediately.”
“Luo Panzhi, children grow very fast. Buying this many is a waste. And… it’s expensive.” Gu Yuxi was stunned by Luo’s “grand gesture” style of luxury. Luo didn’t shop like a normal person; he shopped like he was stocking a warehouse. And this wasn’t a wholesale market; it was a high-end designer brand. A wall like that had to cost hundreds of thousands.
Luo Panzhi didn’t have a concept of “waste” when it came to things he liked. He ruffled Gu Yuxi’s hair and smiled tenderly. “It’s fine. I’m rich.”
Gu Yuxi: “…” The words died in his throat.
For once, he truly couldn’t argue. Because it was the absolute truth.
