A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 6
“Who is that?” Seeing Gu Yuxi’s hand raise a glass, Qi Lin followed his gaze and saw a tall, handsome Alpha walking toward them. Based on the instinctive repulsion between Alphas, he felt a strong sense of pressure from this man. “Hey, Gu, do you know him? He’s coming right for us.”
“He is Luo Panzhi.” Gu Yuxi rested his wine glass on his knee. He wasn’t surprised to run into Luo Panzhi here; in fact, he was looking forward to seeing how Luo Panzhi would react to seeing him like this.
He leaned back on the sofa, tilted his head slightly, and watched Luo Panzhi approach. He tugged at his collar, feeling a bit flushed.
Perhaps he was sensitive to Luo Panzhi’s pheromones, because even though the bar was crowded and there was some distance between them, he could still faintly catch the scent.
Brandy doesn’t have a higher alcohol content than whiskey, yet he’d drunk two bottles of whiskey and hadn’t gotten drunk, but this oolong brandy made him feel a little intoxicated.
“His Alpha pheromones seem a bit too strong,” Qi Lin said, frowning uncomfortably. “Did he really use a blocker?”
Gu Yuxi thought to himself, ‘It’s precisely because they are so strong that they can suppress the concentration of my own pheromones.’
He lowered his head and smiled, raising his hand to finish the wine in his glass.
But just as he lifted it, a hand reached out and pressed down on the rim of the glass.
The rolled-up shirt sleeves revealed a muscular and powerful arm with smooth lines, and a faint scent of oolong brandy wafted from his wrist, subtly lingering in the air.
“Drinking so much?”
Luo Panzhi’s slightly hoarse voice rang in his ears. Gu Yuxi watched him take the glass, and then do something unexpected: he tilted his head back and drank the rest of the wine in one gulp, aiming for the exact spot where Gu Yuxi had just taken a sip.
Gu Yuxi’s throat suddenly felt dry.
Luo Panzhi bent down and placed the glass on the glass table, then looked at the visibly tipsy Gu Yuxi on the sofa. “Lawyer Gu, didn’t you say you had a date? Why are you here drinking?”
Seeing Gu Yuxi’s face flush, he reached out with the back of his hand to touch his cheek.
At the same time, he glanced at Qi Lin.
Qi Lin: “…” Where did this sudden hostility come from?
Gu Yuxi raised his hand, using the back of his hand to block Luo Panzhi’s advancing one. He looked at him with a calm gaze. “I did have a date here to drink. Did you as well, CEO Luo? What a coincidence.”
“So he’s your boyfriend? And an Alpha?”
Qi Lin: “…” I had no idea this was part of the plan!
“In that case, Lawyer Gu, do you mind if my cousin and I join you? I hope we’re not intruding?” Luo Panzhi didn’t wait for Gu Yuxi’s answer before pulling Jian Wenxing down to sit. “Tonight is on me, drink whatever you want.”
Gu Yuxi: “…” My little boss is much more thick-skinned than I thought.
Jian Wenxing thought, ‘My second cousin really has some social bravado.’ He was forced to sit down and accidentally squeezed the Alpha next to him. He smiled apologetically, “I’m so sorry, please excuse us.”
Qi Lin smiled nonchalantly and raised his glass to Jian Wenxing. “A friend of Yuxi is a friend of mine. Let’s drink together.”
Jian Wenxing awkwardly rubbed his nose. “I’m allergic to alcohol, so I can’t drink. I’ll just order some juice to drink with you. Youpan, I—” He cried out in pain as his thigh was suddenly slapped.
Luo Panzhi calmly pulled his hand back, maintaining his dignified composure. He smiled at Gu Yuxi and the suspicious rival. “It’s a rare coincidence to meet you here. Lawyer Gu, won’t you introduce us?”
Why would you use my nickname in public? It’s not very manly.
“Didn’t you already figure it out, CEO Luo?” Gu Yuxi pushed the remaining wine bottle toward Qi Lin, tapping the side of the glass as if to give him a signal.
Qi Lin smiled, extending his hand to Luo Panzhi, whose face had already turned as dark as night. “I’ve heard a lot about you, CEO Luo. It’s truly remarkable to see someone so young inherit the Galaxy Group. It’s an honor to meet you. My name is Qi Lin, and I am Yuxi’s Alpha boyfriend.”
The dignified composure Luo Panzhi had maintained completely faded. He couldn’t even manage a polite smile.
Suddenly, he understood how his brother, Chu Guzhi, felt when he was rejected by the person he had a crush on. At the time, he had been dismissive, wondering how a crush on someone you had just met could be so difficult that it would make you want to cry.
He had lived for 24 years; his brother and sister were married and even had children, but he had never felt any urgency about his own situation. He just hadn’t met the person who would make his heart flutter.
Who would have thought that this heart, which had been dormant for 24 years, wouldn’t fall for a graceful and generous Omega, but instead would fall for a tall, handsome Alpha?
And now, he was facing an even bigger blow.
He had fallen for an Alpha who had a boyfriend.
He was the heir of the dignified Galaxy Group; he could have whatever he wanted in the world. If he were a ruthless person, he wouldn’t hesitate to take what he wanted, but this was Gu Yuxi.
And he wasn’t willing to disrespect him.
But he was also unwilling to give up.
“Lawyer Gu, even though tomorrow is the weekend, you should drink less. Alcohol is bad for your health.” Luo Panzhi took the glass from Gu Yuxi, slowly stood up, and added, “You’re older, so it’s better to drink less and take care of your body. Something just came up. I’ll be going now. See you on Monday.”
He couldn’t accept this, and he couldn’t stay any longer.
Gu Yuxi watched Luo Panzhi walk away.
The entire time this man had been in the bar was no more than ten minutes.
The overbearing CEO had a grand entrance, and in the end, he left with his back straight and proud, displaying the arrogance deep in his bones, as if to say, “What are you going to do about it?”
That is, if he hadn’t taken the glass I was just drinking from.
“Youpan, wait for me!” Jian Wenxing’s butt hadn’t even warmed the seat before he saw his cousin, Luo Panzhi, about to leave. He knew something was wrong, so he quickly followed, but not before saying goodbye to the two people on the sofa.
“Hey Gu, why did you lie to him?” Qi Lin saw his friend watching Luo Panzhi leave and seemed to grasp the subtlety of the situation. “Could it be that you…”
“He will soon know why I’m getting close to him.” Gu Yuxi grabbed a nearby bottle of wine and saw that it was empty. Just then, a bartender walked by, and he asked for a few more bottles. “Hello, could you open a bottle of brandy for me? And I was wondering if you had any oolong tea?”
The bartender was obviously stunned by the request. “I’m sorry, we don’t.”
“Then I’ll just have the brandy.”
The bar quickly went to retrieve the wine.
Gu Yuxi was momentarily surprised when he saw the bartender bring him a new glass. How did he know I needed another glass?
“Misunderstand what? I could tell he likes you. I knew there was some hostility; it turns out he sees me as a love rival. Don’t you like him, too?” Qi Lin saw his friend fall silent and start drinking again. He suddenly understood why he had been asked to come drinking. “Are you afraid that when he finds out about your illness, he’ll misunderstand that you got close to him because there was something you could use him for?”
Gu Yuxi tilted his head back and downed the brandy in the glass.
Compared to the fierceness of whiskey, brandy was much gentler. The mellow fruitiness of the wine diluted the whiskey. Although it was also a strong liquor, the sweet coolness hidden beneath the fruit lingered on his lips and teeth.
The buzz from the brandy clouded his mind, and the image of that proud, uninhibited figure walking away came to mind.
He had seen the confusion and distress beneath that pride, and he had also accepted the joy this person expressed after their spontaneous, unspoken agreement. It was just like the taste of the brandy—the amber color was cold and noble, but after tasting it, it was a gentle and pure experience.
He admitted that he had been intentional in his actions, getting close to Luo Panzhi and then keeping his distance.
Aside from his work, he spent every day observing his little boss through that one-way mirror. He had seen him in every state over the past few days, in a sharp suit and out of a suit.
And because of this, he instinctively took a step back whenever Luo Panzhi got close.
“Hey Gu, do you think a relationship between two Alphas has no future?”
Gu Yuxi crossed his legs and placed the glass on his knee, his eyes fixed on the chaotic crowd dancing in the distance. The strong rhythm of the music made his heart beat fast. “No.”
“Then why? This isn’t like you at all.” Qi Lin’s impression of Gu Yuxi was that he was never indecisive. He was someone who would bravely pursue what he wanted and act with decisiveness.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t be called the ‘great demon king’ of the legal world.
Gu Yuxi took another sip of brandy. He smiled and said, “I’m not worthy.”
His selfishness and hypocrisy weren’t worthy of Luo Panzhi’s integrity and straightforwardness.
In the Porsche outside the bar…
Jian Wenxing, who hadn’t been drinking, was able to drive, but the person in the passenger seat seemed more terrifying than if he were drunk. “Um, Youpan, are you okay?”
He gave a subtle look at the wine glass in Luo Panzhi’s hand, remembering the scene and the conversation he’d had with the front desk.
I’m taking this glass. Give that table a new glass, and only sell him one more bottle of wine at most. Otherwise, you’re fired.
That’s right, the bar was one of Luo Panzhi’s properties.
The boss could be a bit more assertive.
It was just strange that he would take someone’s used wine glass.
“I am not okay.” Luo Panzhi picked up the wine glass, seemingly searching for a lip print on the rim under the light from the streetlights, and the more he looked, the angrier he got. “Why does he have a boyfriend?”
He said this and then slammed the bottom of the glass against his thigh, but the next second, he gently caressed the bottom of the glass as if it were a treasure.
Jian Wenxing: “…” He is so manic.
“I am not giving up.” Luo Panzhi turned to face Jian Wenxing, his expression serious. “I’m not giving up.”
Jian Wenxing thought to himself, ‘My cousin is so pathetic.’ He finally falls in love, and the person is not only an Alpha but one who already has a partner.
Pathetic. Just pathetic.
He sighed and patted Luo Panzhi’s arm, unable to do anything else. “I get it, but you can’t just steal someone else’s boyfriend. It’s unethical.”
Luo Panzhi leaned heavily back in his seat, turning his face to look out the car window. His thumb rubbed the cold glass. “I know, but… I’m not giving up.”
“Don’t do anything reckless. You’ll be in big trouble if our fathers find out,” Jian Wenxing suddenly panicked. He knew his cousin’s personality; taking what he wanted was definitely Luo Panzhi’s style.
Then he heard Luo Panzhi laugh.
Jian Wenxing: “…” That’s even more creepy.
“I’ll wait.” Luo Panzhi seemed to have figured something out. “They’ll break up eventually, won’t they?”
He was truly unwilling to give up.
Someone so perfectly aligned with him should be his.
Why should he be with another Alpha? Wasn’t he good enough?
First come, first served, right? Fine, the first one can be the first one, but what if he just became the second one? That’s it, he decided happily. He would continue to exude his cursed Alpha charm.
At home…
Chu Guzhi was drinking the milk that Yan Lu had prepared for him when he was surprised to see Luo Panzhi return. “Why are you home today?”
Luo Panzhi looked at his twin brother as if he had let down all his defenses. “Zuogu, I’m miserable.”
“What’s wrong?” Chu Guzhi had never seen his brother like this. He quickly put down the milk. “Is work not going well?” he asked, pulling Luo Panzhi to sit next to him.
Luo Panzhi slowly sat down next to Chu Guzhi. After a moment of silence, he finally couldn’t bear the sadness in his heart. He rested his head on Chu Guzhi’s shoulder, his eyes reddening. “I… I got my heart broken.”
Chu Guzhi turned his head to look at Luo Panzhi in disbelief. “You got your heart broken?!”
Luo Panzhi’s thin lips trembled as if he had been greatly wronged. He hugged Chu Guzhi’s arm and sobbed, “This shouldn’t be happening. How is this possible? I…”
He had just started crying when he felt Chu Guzhi’s body shaking. He froze, looked up, and found his brother laughing. His face immediately darkened.
Chu Guzhi couldn’t help but laugh out loud. “Luo Panzhi, you finally got what you deserved.”
Luo Panzhi became even more upset. “I just got my heart broken, and you’re making fun of me? That’s too much!”
“You laughed at me the same way back then.” Chu Guzhi patted his shoulder, laughing gently. “Now it’s your turn. It serves you right.”
Luo Panzhi expressionlessly took the milk from the coffee table and shoved it back into Chu Guzhi’s hand. He said fiercely, “Go drink your milk.”
Forget it, I’ll figure this out myself.
